oh my g od imagine carter in like elementary school or something and ofc at some point he has to do a report about his family or something like "i have two dads, theyre the coolest!!" but then some punkass kid teases him about it or something and then will and nico have to Deal with it im going to cry

Carter tag

Will assured him that it wouldn’t happen. Nico wasn’t so sure. He could almost perfectly picture Carter sitting in his classroom, happily talking about his family, his bright blue eyes shining, when someone would stop him and tease him for having two fathers and no mother. He had heard it from Will’s cousin. A child needs a father and a mother. Not two fathers. They can’t possibly teach all the wonders that a mother can teach. Nico had politely disagreed with her at the time, but lying in bed with Will that night, he had confessed his fears to Will. That she was right. Will had assured him that she was just a conservative who refused to accept anything past the sixties, but his words did little to ease Nico.

Now Nico stood in the hallway with Carter’s teacher, who was telling him that what he was scared would happen had actually happened and that, no, Carter wasn’t upset, he was more mad then anything, and that, yes, the other child was being gently disciplined.

Nico nodded and thanked her, taking Carter’s hand as he came running over to him. “Hey, Little Man,” he started walking them to his car, “how was school today?”

Carter’s face scrunched up, his little nose pulling up in a way that perfectly mirrored Nico’s reactions to a lot of things. “Tina’s stupid.”

Nico frowned. “Carter, we don’t call people stupid.”

His black curls bounced as he climbed into the back of Nico’s SUV, he really needed a haircut. “But she called me stupid. She said that no one had two daddies. She said it was stupid that I did.”

Nico buckled him into his car seat, gently kissing his forehead. “We’ll talk about it when daddy gets home, okay?”

Carter sighed. “Okay, Papa.”

Will was not at all surprised that it happened. He was more surprised that Nico didn’t try and attack Tina’s parents. “Sometimes people just calls things stupid because they don’t understand them. Does that make sense?” Will was crouching in front of Carter, who was sitting on the couch.

Will smiled and kissed Carter’s forehead. “Why don’t you go get ready for bed? Papa and I will be there to tuck you in in a little bit, okay?” Carter smiled and jumped off the couch, running to his room.

Will sighed and stood up. “Nico?”

Nico walked in out of the living room and Will wrapped his arms around him.   “I know, I know. I’m just worried that he’s going to resent us because he never had a mom.”

“He’s not going to resent us, Nico. He loves us.” Will tucked Nico’s head under his chin. “He’s perfectly happy with two fathers and no mother.” Nico was just too insecure to notice that.

“Maybe you’re right.”

“Of course I’m right.” Will let go of Nico, kissing the side of his head. “Now, let’s go tuck Carter in so I can make you feel better.”

Nico grinned and followed Will down the hall.

I’ve had so much work lately, getting to write Carter is a great de-stresser.
