occult nazism

Re your last post on Volkish shites having a hissy-fit: you were saying that your heathen moot (and, I imagine, most heathen moots) have to sniff out people of Volkishness before letting them in, and how sometimes they're actually just young pagans who don't know any better. I was wondering if you know of any posts or articles or anything that goes through, step by step, what's Volkish and what's genuinely/historically Norse? Things like which runes are Nazi and which aren't?

Honestly? The gold standard on this is  Occult Roots of Nazism: Secret Aryan Cults and Their Influence on Nazi Ideology by the late Nicholas Goodrick-Clarke, who was one of the foremost academic scholars on such things. It’s dense, but it’ll give you a great overview of the Volkish movement and what was appropriated.

If you’re interested in how Neo-nazis developed and twisted things further, pick up  Black Sun: Aryan Cults, Esoteric Nazism, and the Politics of Identity,  also by Goodrick-Clarke.

I’ve seen pdfs of both floating around, not that I encourage such things.

As regards ‘Nazi-runes’, well, Guido von List’s Armanen Futhark are not historically Norse, but came out of the Volkisch movement. Some neo-Nazis use them, but so do some non-Nazi Esoteric groups because they to believe them to be potent things.

Sorry there’s no easy, or cut’n’dried way to  work stuff out without context and research. My best advice, books aside, is to be cautious, check things out and don’t let the presence of arseholes spoil your keen.
