oaxaca cheese

Today, I fucked up... by almost choking to death with cheese

For people who don’t know what a quesadilla is, it’s a tortilla filled with cheese, which is then grilled. The tortilla can be made out of corn, or even wheat.

I was eating my lovely food when this happened, the cheese I used was, as it is called in spanish, “queso Oaxaca”. Now, that cheese is really stretchy, like for real. As I was eating, that cheese stretched all the way down my throat. And then I started choking. As I was gasping for air, my hand went down my throat to retrieve the cheese.

Long story short, cheese almost killed me, and now my throat is really, really sore.

Food Review: Lala Oaxaca Light Cheese

One of the perks of living in San Diego is how relatively close we are to the border. Since I have a good background of Mexican cuisine and food products (being Mexican myself), I like to try and compare stuff from here and there.

Oaxaca is a type of melting cheese. I guess you can describe the texture as some sort of string cheese with a flavor that comes really close to mozzarella. I use it for quesadillas, chilaquiles, and other warm meals.

However, cheese is naturally high in fat because of the milk. But this is one of the safest bets out there if you’re looking for a tasty, flavorful and healthy cheese. Just keep in mind the serving size should be the size of your thumb.

Unfortunately, I only buy this cheese when I go down to Mexico, but I’m guessing that in the US they might have it available in Mexican or Hispanic grocery stores. You can always compare other brands of light Oaxaca cheeses, as long as they are low in calories and fat.
