o and ben are my babies

anonymous asked:

do you have any ben movie recs for ppl who've only seen him in rogue one? thanks x

yes, of course!

  • Mississippi Grind - his only non-Aussie starring role, a great character study with sublimly sympathetic work from him as usual. It’s probably the most accessible out of these
  • Starred Up - gritty as hell prison movie with incredible writing and performances from Ben and Jack O’Connell, lots of f-bombs
  • Animal Kingdom - the crime drama that launched Ben’s current career renaissance, arguably his scariest role to date
  • Beautiful Kate - if you can get past the ick factor of the premise, it’s not exploitative like you’d think and quite a good drama (still, incest trigger warning)
  • Slow West - quirky modern Western with Ben as another excellent bad guy
  • The Year My Voice Broke - if you can find it, it’s worth seeing as it’s a great coming-of-age story and 17-year-old baby Ben’s breakthrough role
  • The Place Beyond the Pines - a small part for Ben but a memorable one, a decent film overall too
  • Others - Killing Them Softly is apparently so-so but Ben is good in his supporting role. Hunt Angels and Metal Skin are interesting but they’re very strange and obscure, more for the hardcore fan. If you want more young Ben maybe check out The Big Steal, a John Hughes-esque fun teen movie.

And obviously, Netflix Bloodline if you’re willing to commit to a TV show (only two seasons with the upcoming third being the last though). Keep an eye out for Una, The Darkest Hour and Ready Player One coming up, they all look very promising for him!
