nyc resident

So, I’m going to be in NYC in a few days and I wanted to go see the Christmas Tree, and my mom pointed out something called ‘Dump Tower’ on the map. Joking with her, I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if someone hacked it and wrote DUMP?’

My mom, a former long time NYC resident, looked at the map and said ‘Hey that’s awful close to where it actually is.’ So I had to investigate and:

OH. MY. GOD. So naturally I had to see what was up with the other Trump property….

Meet Pearl

(Fallout 4 OC)

Name: Pearl Patel-Smith
Age: 31
Nationality: American
Hometown: NYC
Current Residence: Nukaworld, Mass.
Occupation: Former Lawyer, now Raider/Hired Gun
Talents/Skills:  Negotiations, threats, duplicity and traps
Siblings (describe relationship): she grew up in a large family but was only ever close to her younger sister April.
Spouse (describe relationship): Nate Smith, very loving before he entered service, but things were strained afterwards as he put pressure on her to conform to more ‘traditional’ roles and give up her practice to have children.
Children (describe relationship): Shaun Smith. The light of Pearl’s life, and when he’s taken and Nate is killed, something snaps. Any remaining faith in humanity is out the window.
Significant Others (describe relationship): Hancock, Gage. Pearl doesn’t talk about the past much with Hancock, their relationship is primarily based on chems, and when she finds Gage she breaks things off with the mayor. Sort of. Things are complicated, and what Gage doesn’t know won’t hurt him. Gage fills a role that Pearl needs: supportive SO who encourages her instead of stifles. She actually cares for the guy, something she was surprised to learn when a Nukatron knocked him on his ass in the Battledome.

Height: 5′6′’
Build: Athletic
Ethnicity: Indian-American
Eye Color: Dark Brown
Hair Color: Black
Glasses n/a
Skin color: mid-brown
Shape of Face: heart
Distinguishing features:  freckles, minor scars along her jaw, hands
How do they dress? When she’s working she dresses for practicality. Aka: power armor. When she’s out and about otherwise she’ll be in Operators-style armor or suits she tailors to fit herself.
Mannerisms: She watches people like a hawk, picking apart what makes them tic. When she’s thinking, she’ll often chew on her lip, or if she’s working on chems or a mod, hum old world bollywood songs.
Habits:  She uses chems recreationally, but after getting together with Gage she’s cut down on those and alcohol use since he doesn’t like it much. Also there’s less reason to use when she’s in a better place. That said, she still visits goodneighbour for the odd bender.
Health: Good health, she used to have allergies but now all the pollen producing plants are dead.
Hobbies:  She likes mixing chems and reading. She hoards books when she finds them, stocking up her own little library.
Favorite Sayings: “that’s interesting.” “Are you sure about that?”
Speech patterns: She speaks confidently and clearly, and knows how to pack a real punch with words. (See: lawyer)
Disabilities: n/a
Greatest flaw: Distrustful nature, uses and abuses people too often
Best quality: if you somehow make it into her small sphere of people-she-cares-about, she’ll end anyone that so much as looks at you wrong.

Educational Background: Highly educated. Law School and guest lecturer at various universities.
Intelligence Level: Very intelligent, former senior lawyer.
Any Mental Illnesses? Disassociation, PTSD, Depression, etc.
Learning Experiences: The bombs and loss of Shaun ended most faith in humanity. She takes nothing at face value and will hunt down any possible blackmail or other ways to keep acquaintances in line.

‘This Oppresses Women’ Stickers Give Body-Shaming Ads The Edit They So Desperately Need

A women’s group is using a vintage sticker to call out sexist advertisements around New York City – and the result is pretty damn awesome. Some NYC residents have noticed “This Oppresses Women” stickers placed on top of various ads for “beach bodies,” “buttock enhancements” and breast augmentation on New York subway cars and in subway stations.

New York City

Chelsea Hodson is smart, has good taste, and writes very, very well. People often talk about vulnerability as a weakness, but the word’s deeper meaning does not mean being susceptible to attack — it is the ability to withstand attack, to survive, to endure. It is about being a boss in a deep and soulful way. In this sense, Chelsea Hodson’s work shows an unflinching strength and vulnerability in a way that is as intellectually vibrant as it is grounded in the body.

In this building blackmail was crafted, Stravinsky composed, the Black Sox plotted, and swingers partied at Plato’s Retreat. Not all at the same time obviously, but still, the Ansonia hotel has quite the backstory. Originally built as a residential hotel by William Earle Dodge Stokes, it featured 1,400 rooms and 340 suites. The hotel’s residents lived in luxurious apartments with multiple bedrooms, parlors, libraries, and formal dining rooms, and basement featured the world’s largest indoor pool. Plus, it was the first air-conditioned hotel in #NYC. Famous residents included Babe Ruth; writer Theodore Dreiser, the leader of the Bahá'í Faith `Abdu'l-Bahá; conductor Arturo Toscanini; composer Igor Stravinsky; fashion designer Koos van den Akker; Broadway impresario Florenz Ziegfeld. The hotel has also played host to multiple historical moments. It is said that on September 21, 1919, a group of Chicago White Sox players assembled in the hotel room of first baseman Arnold “Chick” Gandil and agreed to throw the World Series for roughly $10,000 per person. From 1968 until 1975 Prior to Plato’s Retreat, the building housed the Continental Baths, a gay bathhouse where multiple stars including Bette Midler provided entertainment. Then, from 1977 until 1980, The hotel’s basement was home to swinger’s club Plato’s Retreat, until Mayor Ed Koch shut the club down due to health concerns. The Ansonia was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. We highly suggest looking more into this place as there is way too much fascinating history to put in this post without making it enormous. #nychistory#seeyourcity #ansoniahotel #history#baseballhistory #historicalfigures#OnlyinNY
