Prompt: “My date stood me up, can you come pick me up?”
Character: Lydia Martin
Warning: Being stood up
You sat outside the restaurant, jacket pulled tight around you, fiddling with your phone and wondering who to call. Tonight was supposed to be good, a nice date, some good food, maybe you’d finally have found someone you wanted to go on another date with…except it didn’t go like that. They didn’t turn up. An hour of waiting and they simply chose not to show up, no text, no phone call, no warning. Just embarrassment as you sat there getting pitying looks from the waiting staff and other customers.
Your finger finally fell on a familiar number and name, a person you could always count on. Putting the phone to your ear you waited as the phone rang, until a familiar voice answered.
“Hey, Lyd…my date stood me up, can you come pick me up?” You had told Lydia about the date, where you were going, about your date what little you knew of them, about how you were looking forward to it…you could feel her sympathy from the other end of the phone a slight sight before she answered.
“Of course, i’ll be there in a bit…” You waited for her to say goodbye as she trailed off into silence for a moment, “you know you deserve better than this…right?” You smiled rather bitterly at that, Lydia was always so focused on reminding you of that fact every time a date went wrong.
“I know.” Sometimes you wished you were going on a date with her instead, at least she cared about you. At least she thought you were pretty, and nice, and smart and funny. At least she would be there with you and talk and chat and…and be Lydia.
