nudus

Nude. Let’s have a microscopic look at Nude. Unclothed, stretching into bare, leaning upon nudus, jumping over naked. Therein lies the etymology of the word. Here’s an observation on nudity and sexuality: Europeans are obsessed with the penis and the mystique of the female nude, and the male, too, The greeks and the romans in particular.. They were told by Sigmund Freud that sex is the basis for primal motivation… Africa, on the other hand, does not see nudity as the primal motivation for existence, rather, nudity is natural in the african cosmology, that is why you see women with breasts exposed. We see nudity as a natural condition of the human experience - Words by the Jamaican artist Barbara von Enger in an interview with German radio.

This beautifully diverse group of sea slugs can be found in oceans worldwide, but its greatest variety is located in the magical habitat of warm, shallow reefs. It’s name comes from the Latin for “naked” (nudus), but it’s often informally called a “sea slug.” Today, a profile of a group of marine gastropods called Nudibranchia.

  • Unlike other mollusks (think snails), most nudibranchs have lost their shells, evolving other mechanisms for protection. For example, some are able to ingest and retain poisons found in prey, later secreting them for defense.
  • All known nudibranchs are carnivorous, feeding on a variety of sea life including sponges, other sea slugs, and barnacles. One species, Glaucus atlanticus, is known to prey on the Portuguese man o’ war!
  • Hermaphroditic, nudibranchs have a set of reproductive organs for both sexes, which means any creature can mate with another. That said, a nudibranch can’t fertilize itself.
  • According to National Geographic, “some nudibranchs are solar-powered, storing algae in their outer tissues and living off the sugars produced by the algae’s photosynthesis.”
  • The creature has very simple eyes (able to distinguish little more beyond light and dark), but have cephalic (head) tentacles that are sensitive to touch, taste, and smell. Its gills are uncovered, located behind their heart, and protrude in plumes on their back, making for a large surface area that grants more efficient oxygen exchange.

Purple shore crab (Hemigrapsus nudus)

The purple shore crab is a common crab of the family Varunidae. It can be found sheltering under rocks in inter-tidal areas along the west coast of North America, from Alaska to Baja California in Mexico. This crab primarily eats sea lettuce and other green algae, and occasionally scavenges dead animals. It reaches sizes of approximately 4.0–5.6 centimetres.

European Starling (juvenile) ~ Star (Jungvogel) ~ Sturnus vulgaris

Finally I have managed to write two small informative (and hopefully helpful) “articles” about the EMERGENCY HANDLING OF BABY WILD BIRDS and about the FEEDING OF WILD BIRDS ~ check them out! :-) Edit: The links don’t work with the app …

Above you can see two baby Starlings I helped handraising in 2014, feather dust included. :-) Starlings look very unlike their parents and are often confused with young European Blackbirds. Their diet luckily is almost identical.

These two guys were “coughing” because they had a Cytodites nudus infection (an air sac parasite). I took them to the bird vet who treated them and kept them in her bird rehab center where they were eventually released.

Franciscan Hymn of Vespers for the feast of the Stigmata of the Seraphic Father St. Francis of Assisi

Crucis Christi mons Alvérnae
Recénset mystéria,
Ubi salútis aetérnae
Dantur privilégia:
Dum Francíscus dat lucérnae
Crucis sua stúdia.

Hoc in monte vir devótus,
Specu solitária,
Pauper, a mundo semótus,
Condénsat ieiúnia:
Vigil, nudus, ardens totus,
Crebra dat suspíria.

Solus ergo clasus orans,
Mente sursum ágitur;
Super gestis Crucis plorans
Maeróre confícitur:
Crucísque fructum implórans
Animo resólvitur.

Ad quem venit Rex e caelo
Amíctu Seráphico,
Sex alárum tectus velo
Aspéctu pacífico:
Affixúsque Crucis telo,
Porténto mirífico.

Cernit servus Redemptórem,
Passum impassíbilem:
Lumen Patris et splendórem,
Tam pium, tam húmilem:
Verbórum audit tenórem
Viro non effábilem.

Vertex montis inflammátur,
Vicínis cernéntibus:
Cor Francísci transformátur
Amóris ardóribus:
Corpus vero mox ornátur
Mirándis Stigmátibus.

Collaudétur Crucifíxus,
Tollens mundi scélera,
Quem laudat concrucifíxus,
Crucis ferens vúlnera:
Francíscus prorsus inníxus
Super mundi foédera. Amen
