I get that a lot of people really like the “we need to consider the consequences of science” theme in fiction, and I do as well.
However, I get very uncomfortable that innovation that can be twisted into something evil, must necessarily and inherently be evil.
Fitz did not create The Framework. He created a Virtual Reality training exercise, in order to help train new agents without anyone getting hurt. (Which, as far as I recall, was an approved and sanctioned SHIELD project that Jemma knew about and liked.) And we currently have Virtual Reality technology that exists in our world, and as I understand people are using it for all kinds of really good things:
helping terminal patients get to do things on their bucket list
help people terrified of flying disconnect from the world
create beautiful fictional worlds for people to immerse themselves in as a way to enjoy their time (just a step above 3D movies??)
possibly teaching first responders how to deal with really traumatic situations
And those are just current applications that people are trying to improve and develop. There are TONS more applications that involve HELPING and improving people’s lives. Because you can potentially create an evil Matrix with virtual reality doesn’t mean the technology is inherently evil.
If I recall correctly, Fitz’ job in SHIELD is to keep creating things that protect SHIELD agents and improve the way that SHIELD runs. Nobody complains about the containment module he created to help protect Inhumans? Or any of the other countless things he’s invented to help SHIELD? (Even though I’m certain if someone thought hard enough, they would be able to find an evil version of all of those.) The reason Radcliffe was able to build AIDA is because Fitz developed a realistic prosthetic hand for Coulson to improve his life. Should he not have done that?
Yes, of course, it’s important to consider the consequences of the technology you create. But blaming a character for having someone else completely make a new, evil version of their technology with a mystical evil book that didn’t exist when the character made that technology is a bit far-fetched.
So, we discovered a new and very recently observed fact about Jane Austen at the Centre in Bath yesterday: she was engaged twice in her life. You might know about the first guy, one Harris Bigg-Wither. Looks like a dandy in his portrait but she was only engaged to the man for 12 hours before deciding he wasn’t for her and running away from the inn they were at.
The second engagement is a little more touching and newly discovered. Jane was engaged to a clergyman from Lyme Regis. We don’t know his name because he died about 6 months into the engagement and Jane, not wishing to trumpet her love and her heartbreak or her secret engagement, told her sister, Cassandra, that she didn’t want it spoken about and that was an end to it. Cassandra had had a similar situation a few years earlier so she respected Jane’s feelings. I go away to Lyme Regis every year and I assume this man’s death is recorded in the parish records. He can only be one of a few men of that age group and that profession within that time period. I want to find out about him!
Thank you for sticking with me so far ;v;! I know a lot of you followed me because of Kylux and Techienician. (It’s not that i don’t love them but my interest do change from time to time. I know once Episode 8 come back in December i’ll probably draw them more.)
But right now my ships are simply rare? Lol and more toward Star Wars Rebels characters..(Lyste, Zeb, Kallus, Thrawn..etc). So i won’t get offend if you need to unfollow me because of that. But for those who stay, thank you. Thank you for the reblogs, likes, and simple talking to me ;v;. (I’m very timid and get anxious a lot but i really do like talking to people.)
What can i say…Thrawn is a big fan too. Veers hold him back!
I like how the phandom has decided that 2017 is the year Dan and Phil will come out, move and get a dog (also possibly get married but like honestly isn’t that supposed to happen in 2022?). And whenever Dan and Phil say they’ll do anything (upload a video, do a joint lveshow etc) we get really excited and we’re like ‘YES, this is IT, guys. They are coming out as a couple. They are anouncing that they got a puppy, they got engaged and that they will soon move. I know it. I just KNOW it. I CAN FEEL IT!’. And then it ends up being just another pleasant, domestic, funny video and we just stand there like ‘wut’ for a bit and then we find a new thing to scream about (eg THEY WERE NOT WEARING ANY PANTS)
Overall, what is your honest opinion of this episode?
I honestly think it was a really well rounded episode. For me, 2b as a whole has completely blown 2a out of the water. It feels more cohesive and planned out and more even-keeled. There was a lot of upheaval at the beginning of the season with the change of showrunners. The last 2 episodes of 2a were the strongest by far and each consecutive episode seems to be building upon that. Things are more settled in general. Pacing, character screen time, plot threads.
This episode continued on that trend. The acting, character building, sets, pacing, were all really strong. For me personally, what I can say is that I was completely absorbed. The story was compelling and moved quickly. Pretty much everyone got their moment and they were all pretty strong. I’m being extremely general here and I’m sorry, but I really did love this episode.
I know a lot of people were upset about the body swapping thing, but for me, I think it was great tool to shove Magnus further into the foreground of the show. It wasn’t pretty, it was downright hard to watch sometimes, but I really think it’s going to pay off in the long run. Alan was amazing, as was Harry and even Matt’s scenes blew me away. (That scene where Alec confronts “Valentine” !!! I am going to be praising that scene forever.)
I, of course, always want to see more Malec, and I know we were hoping for more of a resolution between them, but I really feel like that moment was intentional. Alec is new to relationships, Magnus just went through some pretty serious trauma, Alec gave him space, Magnus opened up a little. Their love is still so new and fragile and this is a BIG thing to have to deal with. While short, (and I agree too much screen time was given to other moments) I think it was intentional and is only going to allow more of Magnus’ past to be brought up and be shared with Alec. I’m hoping this will lead to Alec and Magnus becoming stronger together as well as stronger individually.
All of what we saw in this episode, and the one before it, feel like a carefully crafted setup for what’s to come. They are laying out pieces of a larger puzzle. Todd, Darren and Matt Hastings were all saying this during 2a, but it really honestly feels like that’s what they are actually doing here. The torture, Alec’s inability to recognize Magnus, the lack of conclusion are all pieces to a larger puzzle we haven’t seen all of yet. And the quality of 2b makes me believe they will deliver. Ultimately, this episode just make me excited for what’s to come, for everyone.
currently looking for those interested in PLOTTING( preferably through discord, but can be through IM if necessary ). definitely want to write with muses that can become crucial to sebastian’s storyline (close friends, enemies, etc. ), and obviously always looking for more ships.
this always extends to new and old friends, and anyone that i follow those that have written with me before are more than welcome to like this, too. i’m simply seeking some deep discussions and the creation of exciting arcs with our muses that will be fun for us to explore and write, and this is a great way to see if you’re interested !!
