now i'm gonna study when i come back

It's Christmas break and my whole family is home to ask me when I'm getting a boyfriend. Normally I'm very comfortable with my asexuality but during this time of year I just feel broken and like I'm gonna be lonely my whole life. I don't know what to say when they make fun of me, and coming out feels like it would make things worse. Any ideas?

I don’t know where you’re at in your life, but there are two great fall backs: “I’m focusing on my studies right now, I don’t have time to deal with a relationship.” “I’m focusing on my career, and I don’t need that kind of distraction.” Also, if they’re making fun of you, you can try either shutting down and refusing to respond to them until they apologize, or you can give them a blank stare and ask them why that was supposed to be funny. Make them feel as crappy as they’re making you feel - I know eye for an eye makes the whole world blind but sometimes you gotta poke people in the eye so they understand the pain of it.

You don’t need a boyfriend or any other kind of significant other to have a happy, fulfilled life. Just because they’re too small-minded to understand that doesn’t make them right. Be yourself, do what makes you happy. You are a wonderful, lovely person and their opinions are nothing.
