nothing about it will be heterosexual

The Winchesters watching Sherlock
  • *Scene with gay subtext*
  • Dean: Oh come on! These guys are like so in love with each other!
  • Sam: ...
  • Dean: I mean... The way they stare at each other! This isn't heterosexual! How can John not see that he's in love with Sherlock?
  • Sam: Dean...
  • Dean: I mean, there's nothing wrong about being bisexual. And there's nobody who cares for him like Sherlock does. Love isn't about genders, right? Why is he so scared of being in love with him?
  • Sam: ...
  • Sam: Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

Wonder Woman spoilers. Hit J to skip.

Got into a discussion about the implication that Diana finding love with a man was what saved the day and I thought I should go ahead and bring it over here.

I can see the argument being made here. Diana has been around women all her life. That suddenly a man, and more specifically sex with a man, changes her and makes her a hero. That hetero-sex is what saves the day.

I have a couple objections to this theory, but let me start by saying I can see why you would feel that way, particularly for those of you who are lesbians. I don’t, and I recognize it’s largely because of who I am and my own views.

What I won’t agree with is the implication that Amazons are all straight. It’s just not true. When Antiope was killed, three women came to her side- her sister, Diana, and a third grief-sticken and screaming who got the camera’s attention for an extended shot even though nobody knew who she was. That was her wife. Fight me.

Additionally, when Steve and Diana are having their boat sex talk, she says she knows of sex. She knows the pleasures of the flesh. Men are unnecessary for pleasure. She’s either talking about lady love or masturbation (both of which are still pretty taboo to talk about as women today let alone in 1918). I choose to believe it’s the former. She’s had at least one Amazon lover in the comics- Mala in Earth One.

On to my objections:

Diana’s not a lesbian. She’s bisexual. Bisexuals are allowed to love men. We’re allowed to like men. Steve Trevor, whether romantic or platonic, is a big part of Wonder Woman’s story. He is the Lois to Diana’s Superman. For those of you who say Steve was too much or Steve was intolerable or the het love story ruined it, I ask you to accept that you might have some biases based in your preference for a queer Diana who doesn’t like men. Again, I understand why you feel that way, especially for those of you who are lesbians. But to constantly hear ‘het love’ and ‘het sex’ is annoying at best and erasure at worst. Diana is bisexual. She is queer. Of course I’d like it to be more explicit in the movies, whether through her expressing attraction to women or outright saying it, but the point still stands. This is the most powerful canonically queer character in media.

Nothing she does is heterosexual.

Another point is about the love saves the day. It wasn’t just Steve’s love. It wasn’t just Diana’s love for Steve. (And yes, I can see why it might seem rushed, especially for those who aren’t aware of the “Diana’s Lois” history of the ship, but how often do we see the woman falling head over heels for the hero of other movies and why can’t we allow the script to be flipped here? Steve Trevor is very much a counter to most macho action movie stars full of toxic masculinity which is a whole post on its own.)

Love saved the day, but it wasn’t just romantic love. It certainly wasn’t just sexual love. It was also platonic love between the men themselves. When she sees the men embracing each other in the face of certain death, what does she see?

She sees three men who could have gone home when the money ran out. Three men who continued into a suicide mission, following Steve because they loved him too. When Steve gave them the option to go home, they say “she can handle herself, but what would you do without us?” They follow him because they love him. They’d deny it, of course, but it’s there. That brotherhood. She sees that. She recognizes it from the way the Amazons loved those they fought with. That’s how she recognizes that there is good in men. That’s why she believes they can choose good. They aren’t fighting for the anger and the bloodshed. They are fighting because they love.

Just like she does.

'Oh no.'

‘Oh no.’

Tucker hadn’t meant for this to happen. Honestly his tight ass would have paid any amount of money in the world to PREVENT this from happening.

But it had happened. He had looked over at his life long best friend sleeping against his shoulder and had been struck by the very INTIMATE urge to kiss him on his adorable little freckled nose.

This wasn’t a good thing, because said best friend’s GIRLFRIEND was sleeping against his OTHER shoulder, and every time her hair fell across her face he had to nearly bite his own fingers to stop himself from brushing her fringe aside out of her long lashed eyes.

The three of them had sat down for a movie at Sam’s place, it was one of those few calm nights where the ghosts were chilling in the Zone and NOT causing any trouble for once. Danny was absolutely delighted to spend the night with his friends doing something that DIDN’T involve ghosts.

The two lovebirds had sat beside one another on the lounge, holding hands and being, quite frankly, UNBEARABLY adorable. Tucker warned them that he’d sit on them if they didn’t stop being so mushy and things predictably escalated until they were all but a tangle of goofy limbs hanging precariously off the two seater lounge.

By the time Tucker awoke it was late morning and he was seated firmly between Sam and Danny, both having cuddled right up to him in the night, his left arm was warm under Sam’s weight, but his entire right side was borderline numb beneath Danny’s clinging arms. Boy was a leach, he had always been clingy when they shared beds as kids but back then he didn’t have a big ol’ chunk of freezing cold ectoplasm sitting pretty in his chest.

But cold be damned Tucker was squished up with BOTH his crushes practically sleeping on top of him, no force on Earth or in the Zone could possibly make him move right now. He was staying right here where he could stew in his delight and guilt for the rest of eternity.

Until Danny stirred and an arm pressed against his bladder. Heck. He needed to pee, like, really REALLY needed to pee.

Tucker stayed nestled up in the cuddle pile for as long as he could stand it before heaving a sigh so heavy even Thor couldn’t lift it. Somehow he managed to wrangle himself out without waking either of his friends and he waddled to the bathroom to relieve himself.

He could hear his heartbeat in his ears as he stood in the cold tiled room. Why. No seriously, WHY. How in the fresh hell did he manage to fall head over heels not only for ONE of his best friends, but BOTH of them, and to top it off they were both DATING each other. He literally could not have picked a worse scenario.

He could wake up one morning with 'Bad Luck Tuck’ tattooed to his forehead and he still couldn’t possibly feel more unlucky than he did in this instant.

It took all of his willpower not to always end his and Sam’s constant meat vs vegan fights by smooching her on those enticingly smooth cheekbones, and Danny was even WORSE. Every time that asshole so much as SMILED Tucker’s heart would start thumping like it was trying to put him into cardiac arrest, it was just all those freckles and that little chip in his tooth and-

Oh God stooooop. He needed to stop, he needed to stop right the heck now before he became the first human being to pass out from overexposure to adorkableness. Honestly? Fuck his friends for being so cute. This was all their fault, they could at least have considered his feelings before growing up to be so adorably kissable.

He’d tried so hard to deny it to himself, he tried SO hard to fall back out of love with them but after waking up that morning nestled between those two precious asshats he realised that he had lost this battle, and he had lost it HARD.

But, at the very least, living with a superhero as your best friend taught you some pretty useful life skills. One of those skills being how to Lie Like a Motherfucker to Everyone You Care About. So without further ado Tucker washed his hands, took a moment to stare his lovestruck gaze away in the mirror, and went back out to throw a shoe at his best friend’s head for making his arm numb through the night.

He loved his friends, he loved them with everything he had and that was why he could never tell them how he felt.

'Oh no.’

Sam was honestly pissed, no scratch that, she was more than pissed. She was FURIOUS. Her rage burned with the intensity of her mother’s artificially whitened teeth, and she couldn’t even take it out on anyone, because the focus of her ire was her own stupid stupid brain.

She had always been equally close to both of her friends, in fact she had only very rarely hung out with one or the other alone, and every time she did it felt just… so uncomfortable. It took a long time to really sort out what that feeling was, but even when she did it made no sense.

It was GUILT, she felt GUILTY. Why did she feel guilty? Danny and Tucker sometimes hung out together without her, and that was fine, she was fine with it, they’d been friends since before she came along, but why couldn’t she do the same?

Every time one of them was over her house without the other it almost felt like she was cheating on someone, and that only got MORE disturbing after she and Danny started dating. Because suddenly? It very well COULD have been cheating.

But it wasn’t. And she kept telling herself it wasn’t. She had never kissed Tucker while she and Danny were dating. They had never even held hands.

But God damn, the realisation that had just struck her was enough to make her want to slap herself for ever becoming such a cliché piece of romance movie tripe.

She had just been sitting there, sipping on her smoothie when Tucker did that Thing. She hated that Thing. That Thing where he’d say something that he knew full well was the vocal equivalent of a tumblr shitpost but he ALSO knew she’d found it fucking hilarious and while she tried her damnedest not to let a smile loose he’d send her a big shit eating grin that made her stomach roll and her tongue feel dry. Yeah, THAT Thing.

She was crushing on Tucker, she was crushing on Tucker so hard. She was head over heels for her best friend, her BOYFRIEND’S best friend. Literally EVERYTHING about this situation was the reason she hated 90% of the movies she ever saw. Love triangles were the worst plague fiction had ever suffered and suddenly she realised it had spread it’s nasty little friendship killing tendrils into her life.

She was determined, however, not to fall into the awful trap that so many would think was inevitable, and she did so by keeping her mouth firmly shut about it. She had the willpower to go face to face against ghosts twice her size, and had been through more than one bout of emotional and mental manipulation by others of the ghostly kind. She was not about to lose this battle with herself and destroy not only her relationship, but also the much more valuable friendship she held with both boys.

Sam got up and gathered everyone’s Nasty Burger food scraps to throw into the bin, taking the brief moment to let her face twist in grief over what she’d have to do. With the rubbish gone and her resolve hardened, she slathered her face in smiles and ease, walking back to the table and acting with the skill and grace of someone who had been lying to protect her best-friend-turned-boyfriend for years. Her true feelings shoved somewhere deep between a pit of self-loathing and the core of her love for the boys she cared more about than anyone on this earth, including herself.

———-

'Oh no.’

Danny was in trouble. Danny was in so so so so SO much trouble.

Honestly? At first he hadn’t even realised he was doing it, Tucker had been his friend for such a long time, it had only seemed natural to invite him out everywhere when he and Sam made plans. But Danny was starting to realise the tension it was causing.

Neither of them said anything but sometimes Danny could pick up on… something. Of course he knew what it was, since he’d started officially dating Sam, Tucker had become somewhat of a third wheel.

Danny had never considered his friend to be out of place or unwanted, but he wasn’t sure Sam felt the same way. Maybe she wanted it just to be the two of them, maybe she just wanted some alone time with her boyfriend. She wouldn’t say anything, Danny figured she didn’t want to seem clingy or harsh but, why else would things suddenly start feeling so… weird?

He tried to make the effort to go on at least a couple dates with Sam without inviting Tucker, but honestly he just couldn’t help but think something was missing, and it really didn’t seem to be helping with Sam’s tension. She tried to hide it, she really did, and it wasn’t as though she was bad at it, Danny just knew her too well. Her and Tucker, he was hiding something too.

And Danny was starting to think he knew what it was. They had NOTICED.

He thought he was doing such a good job keeping his feelings from being too obvious, he was used to acting differently around certain people by now (having an alter ego did that to a guy), but obviously his friends knew him too well.

It might have been the touching, yep, yep it definitely could have been the touching. Danny was an extremely touchy person and his gentle caresses and nuzzles weren’t particularly picky about which friend received them. He definitely remembered a time when he straight up snuggled his face right into Tucker’s neck during what was probably an EXTREMELY un-platonic hug.

Other events on the 'Danny is a two timing doofus’ calendar included:

'Holding hands with both Sam AND Tucker while walking down the street.’

'Very delicately running his fingers over Tucker’s leg one time when he’d thrown them on Danny’s lap and honestly there was absolutely nothing heterosexual about that moment.’

'Every time Tucker laughed so hard he snorted Danny thought his heart would straight up melt into a puddle of goo, and then SAM would start doing that super adorable giggle that she was really self conscious of and her trying not to laugh made her pull this fACE and Tucker would lose his mind and start snorting all over again and-’

Danny had to stop himself right there before his heart completely dissolved because for the love of the Ancients his friends were both way too hecking precious for their own good and he loved them, he loved them sooo much. He loved them both.

And they probably knew it.

And boy that meant he was in deep trouble.

Would Sam break up with him? Would this ruin their friendship? Nobody was SAYING anything but Danny knew that stewing over something like this was just going to lead to an explosion of awkward raging teen angst worthy of a place on an MCR album.

If they weren’t gonna bring it up then Danny would just have to… get it out of the way.

Oh boy, he did not want to do this, nuh uh, no sir, he did not want to be standing in his bedroom shifting uncomfortably before his two beautiful, patient, wonderful friends. He would have loved to be sitting BETWEEN them however he deemed such a position to be quite, how the professionals would say, INA-FUCKING-PROPRIATE considering the subject at hand.

No, standing in front of them was slightly better, only slightly because Danny felt like an absolute nervous piece of half human trash. Maybe he could just jump out the window and throw himself into a dumpster, that would speed things along. He would probably end up there by the end of this conversation anyway.

He decided to just do it, stop beating around the blood blossom bush and just get it DONE. Unfortunately Danny hadn’t practiced what he was going to say beforehand, so when he finally resolved to just blurt it all out he literally did… just that.

“I’VE GOTTA HUGE CRUSH ON TUCKER AND I DUNNO WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT.”

By the time his brain caught up to his words his dumpster diving plan was sounding significantly more appealing. There was probably some kind of banana skin pun he could have used there but he was far too stressed to figure it out.

Tucker didn’t respond, he appeared to be trying to bury his face into his hat. A kind of wheezing noise was coming out of him, Danny couldn’t tell if it was a good sound or a bad sound. Sam let out a long breath that whistled between her lip piercings.

“Holy shit me too.”

The Tucker sound continued, raising to a nearly imperceptible level. Danny was just beginning to think it might have been a Bad sound when Tucker pulled his face back into the world, his glasses were all fogged up but he stopped making the noise.

Sam and Danny both waited for him to say actual words but Tucker.exe seemed to have stopped working. Once he’d gained his breath he was back to wheezing into his hat. Sam hesitantly put a hand on his back.

“Are you actually okay or are you like, dying?”

Muffled words were said into the hat, none of which could be repeated around children. Danny was juuuust about to start attempting to will himself into spontaneous combustion when he recognised a very distinct sound emanating from the hat.

Snorting, Tucker was snorting like a god damn pig. Danny’s shaky legs gave out below him and he sat on the floor, shoving his face into the carpet as he laughed along with his best friend. He didn’t know what was happening right now, but he was Having Emotions and the floor just seemed like the right place for that.

Also he needed to look somewhere that wasn’t Sam. She was trying not to laugh and she was pulling That Face and Danny just couldn’t handle it right now and really the floor was great why didn’t he spend more time here.

Tucker felt as though he was finally ready to leave the comforting world of Hat Land and face the unbeLIEVABLE realisation that all of his dreams had just come true in a ten second span of time, he felt like he had just been blessed by the gods, his skin was clear, his crops were flourishing and world peace had been established. Today was a good day to start ugly sobbing in front of the two most important people in his life.

“I love both you guys too!!” Tucker half laughed, half cried, and then just straight up cried, “I’ve wa-wanted to smooch you both sooo bad for like, MONTHS!”

The moment his snorting turned to sobbing he was immediately accosted by a pair of equally snotty emotional wrecks. Danny, still on the floor, had plopped his head on Tucker’s lap and just started balling his eyes out, like he was really going for gold in 'Most Tears Shed on One Lap’. Sam, on the other hand, had commandeered Tucker’s upper half for a simple bone breaking, teary hug.

The next few hours were just chock full of used tissues, an inappropriate amount of snacks and some deep, heartfelt discussions about what the fuck their relationship was gonna be.

Honestly they were just happy to be so open and at ease with one another again, the sun poured into Danny’s bedroom window as the three of them dozed in the warm pool of light. Laying across one another, their imagined boundaries finally broken, they could finally talk shit about each other for making them feel so mushy.

“Oh NO.”

Paulina said out loud at the scene before her. Those three dorks were sitting together at their usual lunch table, all bunched up ridiculously close together and if she wasn’t mistaken she had just seen Danny turn around and KISS TUCKER ON THE MOUTH while Sam, his GIRLFRIEND, just watched?!

“Oh yes.” Star deadpanned, not seeming too fazed by the weirdness happening before her.

“I didn’t think those three could get any more confusing, but I have no idea what’s happening over there right now.” Paulina sat back in her chair, arms crossed.

“Really?” Star raised an eyebrow. “You seriously didn’t see this coming? Those three,” she pointed with a delicately painted pink nail, “have been perfect polygamy material for like, three years.”

“Perfect what material?” Paulina’s face was all scrunched up in confusion, her little nose wrinkled up and her lips pursed in just the cutest little pout-

Star’s stomach fluttered alarmingly.

'Oh no.’

Listen the whole “question your sexuality” ideology really should only apply to people who are heterosexual, and to reverse that to apply to gay men, lesbians, and bisexuals is belligerently homophobic.

Why? Because you honestly think that we haven’t questioned our sexualities already.

Our sexualities have already been assessed, on our own and by others, because global society is predominantly heteronormative. The reason we realize we experience same sex attraction is because we’ve already had to weigh our innate attractions against the societal expectation of being attracted to the opposite sex, and we know that nothing about them – mind, body, and soul – is what we want. Or in the case of bisexuals, they know that the social expectations from both straight and LGBT people is that they should be attracted to just one type and be done with it, but that isn’t the case for them.

I would say it’s arguable that it is nearly unheard of for someone to experience same sex attraction, from any age, and not experience some sort of backlash or reasons to keep them from embracing their sexuality. Even if your parents and family aren’t homophobic, there’s still your community and schools and strangers and media and society at large where you will be told in one shape or another that same sex attraction isn’t “normal,” through either lack of representation of these feelings you have or from bigots who will tell you it’s “sinful” and wrong. The result will be to question whether you’re really gay or bi or not.

Edit: to make this a little more personal – I’m a lesbian. I’m a lesbian from a super religious upbringing, and had to fight with both my fear of damnation and my father’s wrath if he were to find out I was gay. Even at a young age I knew I wanted nothing of boys, and as I got older I wanted nothing of men – the expectations of heterosexuality were crushing, but I still forced myself to consider just forcing myself to be straight, to like men and all their minds and bodies and souls would entail, minds and bodies and souls I wanted no part of.

Telling me, and other lesbians, other people who know that we’re attracted to the same sex, to “examine ourselves” is a gross disservice to all the pain and misery of having to do so for years and years.

HSM IS GAY

So, I was looking through the comments on the I Don’t Dance video from HSM and some people were why asking why it’s a metaphor for gay sex and bisexuality and stuff (besides the blatant gayness of the entire scene), and also saw people saying it’s not at all about the fact the are hella gay for each other. So, putting together some of the comments along with my own observations, here we go:

In the song, dancing (typically attached to women and gay men) represents same-gender attraction and baseball (typically associated with masculinity, etc.) represents heterosexuality.

  • Ryan tells Chad; “I’ll show you that it’s one and the same.” - being gay is just as valid as being straight, and that it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Ryan is clearly proud of being able to dance.

  • “I wanna play ball now and that’s all, this is what I do. It ain’t no dance that you can show me.” Chad is unsure of how he feels about his own same-gender attraction and emphasis his opposite-gender attraction by saying that nothing Ryan ever ‘shows him’ will change that.

  • Ryan encourages Chad to ‘swing like him’. Bearing in mind that Ryan is strongly implied to be gay and the word swing is often used with regards to sexuality, i.e. “I don’t swing that way.”
  • Chad displays stereotypical masculine bravado, he is clearly trying to impress Ryan, he tells him; “I’ve got what it takes… so you better spin that pitch you’re gonna throw me.” While reasserting his definite heterosexuality he adds; “I’ll show you how I swing.”
  • Chad also implies that he experiences gay feelings but represses them when Ryan tells him; “You’ll never know if you never try.” Chad replies; “There’s just one thing that stops me every time.” This shows his fear of social rejection and his own internalised homophobia.
  • As the song progresses this becomes more obvious. Chad goes from saying he doesn’t dance to saying that he can’t even though it’s clear he’s actually a good dancer as well as being skilled at baseball.
  • From this scene we can gather that Chad is bisexual and Ryan is either bisexual or gay (the producers originally wanted to make Ryan canonically gay, so I’d go with that one).
  • On top of this there is the obvious underlying sexual tension running throughout the song. They switch between confrontational and flirty; there’s a lot of smiling and eyebrow action going on, and when they do dance they get all up in each other’s personal space.
  • The song ends with Ryan falling on top of Chad. In the following scene, they have switched clothes.

Oh geez;; sorry this is late but im finally feelin better from last night!!

Happy LWA Week Day 2: Blue “Nothing Remotely Heterosexual About This” Team!

Freckles (Destiel)

“This is interesting,” Sam said, flipping through the pages of the thick book. The pages make a soft shuffling noise as they landed, the creamy paper protesting the landing. Sam, Dean, and Castiel were researching for a case, all of them searching through the old texts. Sam and Castiel were enjoying it, but Dean was huffing and slapping around the pages. Finally, it got to the point that Sam became so annoyed that he took the book away from Dean. Dean sat there, arms folded, stealing glances at Castiel to keep himself preoccupied. Both Castiel and Sam knew not to mention it, Dean was very adamant about his heterosexuality, even more so now that he wasn’t sure of it.
“What’s interesting?” Dean asked.
“Is it relevant to the case?” Castiel asked, not even looking up from the book. Sam expected nothing less of the angel. Efficiency always.
“No, but it’s interesting.” Sam said, smirking slightly.
“Nerd.” Dean commented.
Sam rolled his eyes. “Listen to this: ‘In some cultures, freckles are considered signs of good luck’” He said.
“Well that’s utter bullshit. I’m covered in freckles, but I’m about as lucky as… fuck.” Dean thought for a moment, trying to think of a metaphor and coming up with nothing. “Whatever. Point is, I’m not lucky.”
Sam felt his expression change into a smug smile as he read on. “It says: ‘Freckles were considered lucky because they were thought to be angel kisses.’”
Dean grinned. “What can I say, I’m irresistible. So, tell me, Cas, who’s been kissin’ me all over? Was it Anna? I bet it was Anna.” Dean looked down his own shirt, checking to see if there were freckles there. When he saw and was satisfied, he lifted the waistband of his pants, checking there too. “Jesus, she didn’t miss anywhere, did she?”
Sam looked over at Castiel, finally noticing how red the man was turning. Castiel shook his head, “It wasn’t Anna.”
Dean stopped. “God, don’t tell me it was Zachariah. If you tell me it was Zachariah, I’m going to hurl.”
“It wasn’t Zachariah.” Castiel said, the blush reaching to the tips of his ears by this point. He was looking at his book pointedly, trying to keep his head ducked so the brunt of his blush would be hidden.
“Then who was it? Don’t tell me it was you.” Dean said with a laugh, clearly thinking that was out of the realm of possibility. Castiel didn’t respond though, his jaw just clenching and he turned more red. “Cas?” Dean prompted, awaiting the angel to deny his accusation.
“Oh my god.” Sam gasped. “Oh my god it was.” He whispered.
Dean shot Sam a murderous look. “No, it wasn’t, obviously. Tell him, Cas.”
Castiel swallowed and looked up. “Dean.”
“Oh god. You’re joking, right?” Dean said softly, looking intrigued yet terrified.
“It… it was me,” Castiel said. “But what you have to understand is-” Castiel was cut off by Dean pressing his lips against Castiel’s. The kiss was chaste, but when the two of them pulled back, Sam couldn’t tell who looked more surprised. They stared at each other for a moment before Castiel grabbed Dean by the collar and pulled him back in for another kiss, this time open-mouthed and passionate, full of emotions neither of them had the guts to say. Dean sighed into the kiss and carded his hands through Castiel’s hair, tugging him even closer. They kissed languidly for a minute longer until Sam got fed up and started making gagging noises.
They separated with an unhappy sigh from Castiel and an eye-roll from Dean.
“As glad as I am to see that you guys have resolved your sexual tension, I would prefer not to see you sucking face. I am still trying to work on this case.” Sam deadpanned, holding up the book he was reading.
Dean stuck out his tongue and grabbed Castiel’s hand, pulling him down the hall in the direction of the bedroom. Before he left though, he said, “You’re just jealous that you don’t have any freckles-” Dean was going to continue making fun of Sam, but Castiel pressed his lips onto Dean’s, efficiently shutting him up. That was the angel, efficiency always. They stumbled to the bedroom tangled up together, leaving Sam scowling alone in the kitchen. As soon as he heard the door click shut, Sam quickly stripped off his shirt, inspecting for freckles. There were none on his chest, and as far as he could see, none on his back. Cautiously he looked in his pants and winced.
“CAS! WHY IS THERE A SINGULAR FRECKLE ON MY LEFT BUTT CHEEK.” Sam shouted.
“IT’S FROM… Dean stop it. You’re distracting me. No, that’s very nice, but very distracting. Yes, it’s- oh. Oh. That’s… nice… um… mmm… it’s… I-IT’S F-FROM G-GABRIEL.” Castiel answered, voice stuttering.
“FROM WHO NOW?”

how to tell a femme lesbian from a straight girl (the answer u wont like)

so when i mean if u know how to look you can spot a straight girl from a femme lesbian i dont mean like. show me a picture of a het and a femme and i’ll be able to spot the lesbian (i might be able to but its not bc of how they look)

i know yall arent gonna like this post bc its based off generalizations but uh. generalizations are how u make judgements abt things without flat out asking someone so unless u think its better to assume the statistically speaking less-likely scenario then this is ur best bet

the vast majority of my gaydar relies on body language, social cues, behaviors, and what information a person chooses to share when the subject of sexuality comes up

obviously none of those things are 100% foolproof, my gaydar has been wrong before (like everyones has) and all that other disclaimer bullshit, but if u know what to look for u can probably figure it out (again, not every lesbian acts this way and some straight girls do act this way, dont call me a heterophobe or accuse me of “stereotyping lesbians” bc i do not have the patience for that bullshit and i will block u dont try me tonight)

heres the deal: lesbians have very different life experiences than straight women. there comes a time in every lesbian’s life where u have to come to terms with the fact that the entire universe revolves around men but ur entire universe has nothing to do with them and frankly doesnt give a damn about them. u end up disconnected from the entire world, questioning your own value and usefulness, and all kinds of other angsty lesbian things. we all know this.

and straight girls dont experience that. obviously straight women dont base their entire lives around men. im not claiming they do. but straight women’s universes inherently include men, and the socialization that straight women and lesbians experience gives two different outcome because you have two different initial conditions

when push comes to shove, men are essentially irrelevant from lesbians’ lives. outside of compulsory heterosexuality, we don’t have anything to prove to them. yeah we might be friends with them, but at the end of the day, how men feel about us is. irrelevant tbh.

a straight girl will care about how the men around her view her, through things like body checking (which lesbians can also partake in, mind u) and y making an effort to like. include and be active in men’s lives because they are men. straight women like men and they like men’s company. yeah, they’ll joke about “hating men” but at the end of the day they go home to their boyfriends or husbands and spend the rest of their lives with a man. (i am aware bi women do this too, but bi women’s experiences are fundamentally different from straight women’s experiences bc they arent straight, and this post is specifically abt lesbians vs straight women)

u have to overcome a lot of shit to be a lesbian, to call urself a lesbian, to know ur a lesbian. and that doesn’t happen without changing who u are deep down. lesbians hold their heads high, they dont fuck around, and they give off vibes. they prioritize women. they disregard men. they dont subconsciously cater to the men in the room. they pay more attention to women. they shy away from affection from men.

they also dont talk abt how much they love men. we all went to sleepovers with straight girls, we all got the dreaded “who do u like” question, and we all heard our straight girl friends talk aout the guys they like. a lesbian never praises some mediocre white guy because he’s “got nice hair” or whatever. they might shrug off comments about them not having a boyfriend, avoid talking about celebrities they like, and generally be vague when it comes to conversations about love. and u know why, lesbians generally dont start talking about being gay around a pack of straight girls who will immediately recoil at their once-believed-straight-now-evil-homosexual-friend’s touch

lesbians get a shit lot in life, to be frank. and u can see it. u can hear it. you can watch it. what do u do that u do bc ur a lesbian that isnt flannels and docs? how has being a lesbian influenced you? do u avoid eye contact with men? consciously sit near women at all times, stare a pretty classmate, avoid talking about boys? look for that same behavior in other women. it’s subtle, but if u pay attention you’ll see it

please dont respond to this post without reading it in its entirety or accuse me of making generalizations, this entire post is built off generalizations bc its abt gaydar so

I recognize every lesbian’s experience is different and of course if u make assumptions about someone based off a complex and often ambiguous communication such as body language you can be dead wrong bc every human being is different

@ questioning girls

if you want to like girls, there’s a good chance you do. heteronormativity is so enforced that for many wlw our feelings of attraction can be so jumbled up its close to impossible for us to Know For Sure if and how we are attracted to someone of our own gender at the start. it’s okay to be confused at first, or even for a long time. its okay if you feel like ur “faking it” and are scared that u might “really just be straight”. the truth is, most straight people never even think to question their sexuality. many wlw don’t realize they’re not straight until much later in life, because society tells us that liking girls isn’t even an option. if you’re at this point, you’re already halfway there. take your time and be patient with yourself. don’t get too stressed out about labels. there’s nothing wrong with changing how you identify. whatever happens, know that you’re valid, and you’re going to be okay. i promise. 💕

Reminder to cis heteromantic aces and heterosexual aros that just because a lot of hate directed at the community is directed at you it doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong or that you brought this upon the community. There’s nothing inherently wrong or bad about your identities and you’re just as much a part of this community as another other a-spec person.

Why Strangers is more than just a song

A modern day Romeo and Juliet themed song about immediately feeling attraction to somebody, but it doesn’t depict the typical picturesque relationship most songs do. It’s a song talking about real people, real feelings, and real relationships without sugar coating it. Not a song that music producers think people want to here, but rather a song that people actually want and genuinely relate to. It’s nothing short of a raw uncensored love song. don’t get me wrong, it appears that not much love is being reciprocated in this song, but there is love. Long story short, Strangers depicts realistic non-heterosexual relationships that , contrary to what the mainstream music industry seems to think, does in fact exist. Strangers is more than a song about two girls in a relationship it’s a stepping stone for queer voices into pop culture. Something the entire world could really use right now.

If you find the energy and willingness to do so, I'm super interested in why you don't agree with Dean being a closeted queer person. (Not trying to start anything, I'm genuinely interested.)

Sure! Well, “closeted” is a word that I don’t find particularly fecund in an analysis, or in general, because “being closeted” has meaning in relation to something - like, for instance, you’re closeted to your parents, you’re closeted in your workplace, you’re closeted to everyone outside of the internet, you’re closeted to people you’re not very close to, etc. And sure, you can be closeted to everyone on the planet, but if you exclude people who haven’t told a single soul, there is no such thing as “being in the closet” in an absolute sense. You can come out to one person and you’re not in the closet in relation to them, but still in the closet in relation to everyone else. You can come out to literally everyone you have ever had a conversation with, but technically, unless you’re going around with a t-shirt that says “I’m queer”, you are “in the closet”, as in “not out”, to a person you’re meeting or getting to know for the first time.

This said, I have seen people using that word to mean - if I’ve interpreted it correctly - that Dean is either a) in the closet in relation to everyone; b) closeted to himself, so to speak, as in, he doesn’t realize and/or acknowledge and/or accept that he’s not heterosexual.

I don’t agree with either. Now, I’m gonna put here the disclaimer that this is my interpretation since Dean’s bisexuality/queerness is not stated textually in the show thus we’re talking on a level of signs and attribution of meanings (*insert something smart about semiotics*) and blah blah blah.

Allow me not to be specific with, like, references to lines spoken in the show in this post, maybe when I am done with my thesis and all will get the time to make a thorough analysis with specific references.

Now, do I think that Dean went up to his dad and told him “I like girls and guys lol”? … Nope. At all. (But being closeted in relation to someone doesn’t really mean anything. Being out isn’t an all or nothing thing. You can go to pride parades wearing feathers and still keep it hidden from your dad. There are people who wait for their parents or grandparents to die before publicly coming out or transition. It’s complex.) Do I think Dean went up to Sam or Bobby and told them “I like girls and guys”? I don’t think so, as in, I don’t think he gave them a speech about being bisexual, but I think that both Sam and Bobby have at least a partial sense of Dean’s not-heterosexuality. Has Dean let his queerness known to people outside his family? Sure he has. On the top of my head, I can think of: Ash, Frank, Charlie (all hackers and queer or queer-coded, there is a pattern of association between hacking and queerness, but this is a thought for another day); Crowley was exchanging innuendo with him after 0.2 seconds of meeting and, well, Crowley has gotten to know Dean pretty intimately; and let’s be real there are characters who just looked at him and caught up because of reasons (Gunner Lawless comes to mind, I guess Aaron Bass, pretty sure Max Banes) and people who assumed and used it against him (the Campbells come to mind, no wonder the poor guy built 5739 walls around himself in season 6 and at some point was like “I was busy having sex with women”). It’s also implied that both he and Garth knew what the Purgatory in Miami was and that Dean expected Garth to get the joke, and Garth is another character that knows Dean beyond the façades. And then there’s a constellation of tiny moments that don’t mean anything on their own but in the context of what we know about Dean fit in the picture, like Jenna Nickerson feeling comfortable mentioning the first girl she’d kissed after knowing Dean for a short while.

At this point we’re left with “does Dean know he’s not straight” and, well, at this point it’s obvious but the thing is: Dean takes pride in his being anti-normative. Unlike Sam, he embraces his underclass identity, his not-normal identity. He acknowledges he’s a freak ever since day 1, and while he has heavy issues with the loneliness that comes with it, he uses it as an important brick in the construction of his identity. May I refer you to this conversation I had with @aslightsgoflashing and @f-ckyeahfutbol that touches this very topic.

Now, Dean’s relationship with his sexuality is extremely complex - we need, for instance, to count his experiences with sexual assault into it (I mentioned season 6 before, which also happens to be where he gets assaulted by a man in a sexually charged context, while I believe the other instances of sexual assault on him are carried out by women). Dean lives a life where is body is a) a commodity for the job, b) always at risk of being violated (in multiple ways, from wounds to possession). He’s always walking on a line between protecting his body and weaponizing it (it’s not a coincidence his body has been used as bait so often) and he that goes with sexuality too. He’s vocal in expressing knowledge of obscure kinky sexual practices, talking about how he’ll “try everything once” or whatever (but enjoying wearing pink panties is a secret…).

He builds his identity is a complex, ambiguous, ever-changing relationship with his body and his sexuality, and there’s nothing about him that suggests to me that he lives in a bubble where he doesn’t know he’s queer. Maybe he didn’t always (or ever) had the correct terminology for it or really conceptualized it, but in his twenties the guy knew his Pink Flamingos references (and Sam didn’t).

I think that among the reasons why Dean isn’t throwing himself at Cas’ feet and declaring his undying love for him, the fact that Cas has a dude body is, like, the last one on the list. I mean, I’m not saying he does not perceive men and women differently - he has different ways of relating to men and women due to the overwhelmingly homosocial context he’s lived pretty much his entire life, although he’s clearly developed a less sexist way of relating to women through the years - but his reluctance in opening himself to Cas is not due to some “gay panic” thing. I mean, it would be pretty diminishing to read it as just that.

So… well, these are my two cents on the topic :)
