Yuri on Ice interview translation - PASH! 2017/05 (p24-25)

I am pleased to bring you the very first interview with director Sayo Yamamoto!!! You don’t know how much I’ve been waiting for this… This one is pretty general because of course she has never been interviewed before so they are asking her the basics, but it’s very interesting to finally hear things from her perspective too, since she’s the one who started it all. More interviews with her will be appearing in other magazines in the near future, I’m looking forward to those ones too.

Also, I believe a bright future is to be expected for Yuri on Ice, since she seems to have lots of plans…!! (I was shivering typing out the translation, lol)

Translation is under the cut.

***If you wish to share this translation please do it by reblogging or posting a link to it***

Interview (first appearance in media!)
The world of “Yuri on Ice” that director Yamamoto wanted to create

NDRV3 Transcripts: “Once I’ve fallen in love with someone”

First of all, I’d just like to thank everyone for the overwhelming reception to the ch.5 post-trial translation! The post has even made its way into the r/danganronpa subreddit, which is honestly pretty cool. I’m glad that these translations are helping clear up some misconceptions that people might still have.

Now, I couldn’t help but notice there has been some talk about Ouma and Saihara’s relationship lately. Back when I was still in chapter 4, I decided not to transcribe that bit where Saihara and Ouma log out of the VR world because it had already been discussed pretty extensively on this blog. But I’m taking that back - I think we can all benefit from analysing the original Japanese text.

It’s a short exchange, but also very insightful. After all, if we get to hear what someone’s thinking even if the protagonist isn’t around, then it must be pretty important. Enjoy!

@ne0dym once again continues to deliver yet another really excellent transcription! This is one of the scenes I think people have most wanted to see translated in Chapter 4. Although it’s very, very short, it’s extremely interesting and insightful, providing both foreshadowing for Chapter 4 overall as well as very essential character insight to Ouma.

I’ve translated it to English under the read more as always. Thank you all so much for your support; finding out about the Chapter 5 post-trial transcript being featured on reddit was super cool and exciting!

More translated transcripts here, if anyone is curious!

I hope you all enjoy! If you could reblog or spread this around, that would be great–both ne0dym and I are very thankful that you’ve all been so supportive so far!

Famous Last Words

Summary: In a world where the last words your soulmate will say to you are written on your wrist, fearful and introverted Phil works in a bookstore. His greatest fear? The words counting down the seconds until he meet his soulmate, someone called ‘Dan.’ But it isn’t until he befriends a university student that he nicknames ‘Bear’ that Phil realizes that surviving through fear isn’t the same as living.

A/N: This is a lot shorter than usual, but for plot reasons I ended it where I did and the next couple of chapters should be a little longer. I’m starting to wrap up some things though, and I think this is starting to near the ending…

Chapter Seventeen

Phil walked into Starbucks the next day to find Bear sitting at one of the booths with two drinks sitting on the table in front of him. He caught Phil’s eye, waving him over.

“Are you here with Abbie?” Phil asked, sitting in the unoccupied seat.

“I thought you’d stop by at some point,” Bear shrugged, sliding one of the cups across the table to Phil with a slight smile. “I know your schedule pretty well by this point.”

      “Easy there Edward Cullen.”

      “Excuse me?”

“You’re glittering,” Phil teased, crossing his legs as he popped the lid off of his drink.

“I’ll make your mum glitter,” Bear retorted in mock anger. “You follow the same routine every day. It doesn’t exactly take a brain surgeon to figure it out.”

“Children should be seen and not heard,” Phil said, blowing steam off of the top of his drink and watching as it dissipated into the air.

“That whopping four year age gap is really insurmountable isn’t it?” Bear asked dryly. “We’re both legal adults.”

“I have a job though,” Phil countered. “Although I still don’t have a social life. And I still don’t know how to do trigonometry.”

“How often do you really even need that shit once you graduate anyway?” Bear asked. “Because I never use it except to pass tests. Maybe if I was going to be an architect or something that required math I would actually need to know how to solve for the value of x, but I doubt as a lawyer my client is going to tell me that the only way to win the case is to solve an equation using the quadratic formula.”

“You never know,” Phil said fairly. “Elle Woods won the case because she knew how perms worked.”

Bear laughed. “Really? You’re bringing Legally Blonde into this?”

Emison fic: Kisses that Tell Too Little

This is an Emison story, but it’s not all peaches and cream.  ’Cause they got issues.  But there might be love-feelings and smoochies anyway.

Author: reversatility
Words: 1390
Rating: PG
Notes: Starts a little after the scene at the end of 5X7 with the four PLLs in the kitchen.  Let’s assume they’ve moved on from the A text re Hanna’s big mouth and gone back to discussing the footage from Spencer’s camera.  Oh, and this story will probably be AU once 5X8 airs, so maybe try and read it before then, hehe.

Emily is the only one to propose an alternative.

“I think before we launch this- this spy camera project against Ali-”

“It’s not against Ali,” Spencer interjects.

“It’s not?”  Hanna sounds disappointed.

Emily plows on, determined not to be steered off course.

“I think I might be able to get through to Ali, you know, just by talking to her.”

Hanna lets out a short cynical laugh.

“What, you’re just going to ask her what the hell she was doing last night dressed like a creeper?  And even if she answers your questions, how do you know you’ll get anything close to the truth from Alison?”

Aria shoots Emily a much friendlier look.

“Well, if anyone can, it’s you, Emily.  But– are you comfortable with this?  This guerrilla interrogation method?”

“It’s not like I’m going to trick her into spilling all her secrets.  Or some of them.  I’ll just try to get her to open up.”

Hanna looks away, practically rolling her eyes, and is done with the conversation.  Emily looks at Spencer, who seems like she’s weighing seven different options.

“Please.  Let me at least try.”

Spencer nods.  “Can’t hurt.”

The next day, she finds Alison easily after school; they don’t even discuss whether she’ll accompany Ali home or not – she just greets her with a smile outside Ali’s classroom and starts walking with her, shoulder to shoulder without quite touching.  They move through the hallway and then out the building.  The smirks and glances, comments made both to be heard and not heard, have diminished a lot since the first day, but they’re still there.  Emily suddenly feels a little ashamed of her impatience with Ali yesterday.
Their conversation is small talk about classes until they’re at Alison’s front door.  No one is home, and when Ali turns to look at her like she’s expecting a goodbye, Emily aims for a neutral, friendly tone.

“Can I come in?”

Alison’s eyes brighten as they both walk in.

“Of course, Em.  You don’t have to ask.”

Emily glances at the living room as they walk through.  The shattered mess from the other night has been cleaned up, but she still notices the missing lamps.  Alison seems to realize what Emily’s thinking about as she touches her shoulder.

“Come up to my room?”  Alison asks lightly.

When she drops her backpack on the floor and sits down on the edge of Ali’s bed, Alison does the same, taking a spot next to her.  It seems like Ali’s expecting a conversation; she always did read Emily like a book.

Emily takes a breath and begins.
“I’m sorry about dinner last night.  Hanna was a little … out of it.”

She glances at Alison, and sees a shadow pass over her face before she cocks her head and shrugs slightly.

“It’s cool.  I know with Caleb being back, Hanna’s head must be hazier than usual.”

There’s enough of a barb there to rouse a spark of annoyance in Emily, but she’s not here to talk about Hanna.  Not today, anyway.

“I never really told you about Ben and me breaking up.”

Alison seems a bit surprised by the change in subject, but then she takes Emily’s hand in hers like it’s the most natural thing.

“I know about Maya.”  Alison’s lips form a small smile.

“That was part of it.  That was a lot of it, actually.  But something else happened as well.”

Alison waits for her to continue.

“I was getting changed at the lockers after swimming one afternoon and Ben came in.  I’d been keeping my distance, and he was- he was pissed.”

She hears Alison breathe in, like she’s about to say something, but Ali stays silent, so she goes on.

“Anyway, he got pushy.  And then he was being more than pushy, and suddenly I was trying to get him off of me, and not being sure if I could.”

“Oh Emily, did-?”

Emily gives a quick shake of her head.

“Toby came in and helped me.  That’s kinda how we became friends, actually, Toby and me.”

Her lips curl up just a little at the memory, but Alison puts her other hand over Emily’s and squeezes hard.  There’s an intensity in Ali’s voice, maybe both sad and angry.

“Em, I’m so sorry.  I know what-” There’s a slight pause, and then Alison continues, “I really wish I’d been there for you.”

Emily shakes her head again, more vigorously this time.

“I’m not telling you to make you feel bad about being gone.  It’s just that- I know what it feels like for someone to try and make me do something I don’t want to.”  She swallows, looking at the floor.  “It’s horrible, but at least it’s clear how I should respond.”

She turns and looks squarely at Alison.

“What I don’t know about is if someone is making themselves be with me.”

It only takes a moment for Alison to understand what she’s saying.

“Emily-”  Alison’s brow furrows as she tries to interrupt, but Emily continues, her voice rising.

“Making themselves be with me to- I don’t know- keep me close?  Keep me from the other girls?  Keep me from asking questions?”

They’re facing each other now, and Alison lifts Emily’s hand, holds it over her heart.  Her touch is firm even as her face is as soft as Emily has ever seen it.  Alison waits a moment before speaking, her voice barely more than a whisper.

“I wanted to be with you because of how you made me feel, in here.”

Alison moves Emily’s hand a bit further down, until it’s over her breast, and Emily can feel the tautness of Ali’s nipple through her top.

“And when you touched me here, I wanted you to.”

It is very hard to keep her hand still, but she does.  Alison is so close to her, her blue eyes dark, her lips moist, and Emily’s quickly losing control of this conversation.  She’s relieved when Ali drops their hands and draws back a little.

“I know I can’t just expect you to trust me.  But believe me, Emily – I’ve done everything I can to protect you, you and Aria and Hanna and Spencer.”

There’s a harder edge to Ali’s voice as she goes on.

“And I learned a long time ago that the best way I could do that is by knowing more than everyone else.  If it seems like I don’t tell you everything, that’s why.”

Emily searches Alison’s face, voice unsure.

“Even now?  Do you still have to keep secrets from me, from the rest of us?”

Ali’s voice is low now, with a tremor that could be nerves, or passion.

“I want to tell you the truth about everything that matters to you, Emily.  And I need you to know how I feel about you.”

And then Alison threads her hands through Emily’s hair, bringing her mouth to Emily’s for the first time since that night.  When her lips part sweetly, Emily can’t help seeking more.  It’s Alison that breaks away after a minute, both of them already slightly breathless.

“Do you believe me?” Alison whispers.

The best answer Emily can come up with is to kiss her again, so she does, and when Alison draws them down to lie on the bed, she reaches for Ali to bring them even closer together.

Emily’s sitting at one of the foyer tables at school between periods when Spencer comes up to her, questions all over her face.

“So what happened with Ali yesterday?  How’d it go?  Did she tell you anything?”

“Spence.  I’m working on it.”

Spencer gives her a shrewd look, like she knows there’s a lot more to this.

Emily shifts a bit and infuses stronger reassurance into her words.

“I just need a bit more time, okay?”

Spencer moves close, leaning over her.

“Okay.  Just- don’t forget that we love you too.”

Emily smiles up at her.

“I won’t.”

Spencer drops a kiss on her forehead and hugs her tight for a long moment before letting go.

“We’ll talk later, okay?”

When she’s sure that Spencer has gone, Emily takes out her phone and re-reads the last text on it, heart churning.

“Meet me @ the Kissing Rock after school. Just u, and I’ll tell u what I found out last night. oxox, Ali”

anonymous asked:

More like he was pissed because they were taunting him and Sollux challenged him to battle. JFC it wasn't Feferi's rejection that made him snap, it was the fact that everyone antagonized him until he snapped. Does that make his killing justified? No. Come /on/, at least read the source material first. (Also if you actually played the flash, he DID ask for help, but no one wanted to (you can find this by talking to Karkat as Eridan))

Ok, let’s go.

Let me take a moment to assure you that I am quite familiar with the source material. I completed my second reread over the summer. I admit I didn’t play the walkaround that time because they take forever, but I reread the transcript, which I will make use of in this conversation. Fear not for my mastery of basic plot points. While I may not have a photographic memory, I do have google.

I assume you are responding to this post. Shockingly, you may note that I begin this post with

Eridan kills Feferi when she tries to stop him from ‘joining’ Jack (which would lead to Jack following Eridan’s scent back to the meteor as he does with Vriska and killing them all).

Score one for reading comprehension! That is most certainly what happened, as we can see in the transcript.

FEFERI: T)(at’s it. T)(is makes me sad, -Eridan, but now we )(ave to stop you. We can’t let you find Jack and risk you leading )(im to us.
ERIDAN: so thats how it is is it
SOLLUX: 2he’2 riight, man. can’t beliieve thii2, ii wa2 lookiing forward two a nap two.

Feferi says they’re going to have to stop Eridan. Sollux initially attacks him, but after Eridan KOs him Feferi tries her hand at it. He kills her. That’s the surface level reason why he attacks her, no bones about it. What I’m doing here is proposing a psychological underpinning for his actions.

However, both Feferi and Sollux try to stop him. He knocks Sollux out. He kills Feferi. He also has a really nasty facial expression right before he does it. Hope is based on belief and desire. So while you might be able to argue that ‘oh he didn’t really know how to control his weapon yet’, I think Feferi died because he wanted Feferi dead, even though he had the capability to simply knock her out and make his escape. And based on my interpretation of his character, I think part of the reason why was because she defied him. She rejected him even though he claimed they were ‘meant to be together’, and she refused to come with him when he tried to leave. ‘You’re either with me or against me’, he told her, and her claiming her agency by refusing to join his mad scheme was a final rejection he could not handle. He couldn’t handle her saying no.

Let’s look at the text

FEFERI: NO. You )(ave lost ALL RIG)(T to use fis)( puns FOR-EV-ER. I revoke your fis)( punning license, as w)(ale as our fronds)(ip!
ERIDAN: don’t take that tuna vvoice wwith me princess

He gets pissy if she even tries telling him what to do (note his casual disregard of her wishes with a carefully placed ‘tuna’. Eridan doesn’t use fish puns as much as Feferi. He’s using it there after she told him not to specifically because he refuses to listen.

Now, is it explicitly stated in the text that Eridan killed Feferi while merely KOing Sollux because of her rejection? No. However, I think it’s a fair reading to make. What is not a fair reading is what you’re saying up above.

‘Eridan snapped because everyone was antagonizing him’

Were they? Eridan thinks so

ERIDAN: i don’t fuckin need this from you i take enough shit as it is from the rest a your dirtscrapers

but as the conversation goes on, it seems he thinks ‘taking shit’ consists of being rejected and ignored. He is angry that no one ever visited his planet, which Karkat reasonably points out would be a terrible idea.

ERIDAN: wwhere wwas evverybody wwhy are they avvoidin me all the time
ERIDAN: wwell i wwoulda but nobody else wwas vvolunteerin to pick up the slack on angel killin duties

So while he’s ‘asking for help’ by saying other people could take over angel killing duty (although it seems Ahab’s Crosshairs is one of the few things that will damage them, so other people might not have stood a chance) he refuses to accept the much more helpful advice that he can just. Stop. Killing. Them.

I took a brief spin through Alterniabound, but I didn’t see anyone giving him more shit than they all give each other. I can’t say the trolls tend to be particularly kind, but it’s not like it’s an Eridan-focused abuse session. His claims are very reminiscent of his dancestor:

CRONUS: the last thing my feelings need is your harsh judgment. i just cant handle that, on top of evwerything else youvwe done to me.
MEENAH: what the fuck else i done to you??
CRONUS: you ignored me

Eridan has such a big victim complex that people not being interested in him romantically (he brings up Nepeta’s lack of interest) and people refusing to hang out on his deathtrap of a planet means they’re giving him shit. He brought this upon himself, but he refuses to see that. Hope has relationship ties, and as its Prince he has done a good job of tearing his own down. Eridan’s snapping was not really traceable to one moment. It has more to do with growing up entitled and privileged and refusing to acknowledge the reshuffling of societal cards when their world has been destroyed. Eridan can’t bend, and so he breaks. He clings on to his preconceived notions of what his role and world should be - who should obey him, who should love him - and any attacks on that become an attack on him. He pig-headedly pursued his concept of the ideal seadweller, as Vriska pursued her own ideals, and so he lost any safety net of relationships he might have had. Combine that with his refusal to listen to what the angels might really have been saying - instead typecasting them into enemies that need to be destroyed - and too long trapped on a claustrophobic, stressed out meteor waiting for death… why shouldn’t the two highest bloods abandon the others and make a deal with the devil? That’s how troll society is structured already. It’s a foolish hope, since Jack wouldn’t think twice before chopping him in half, but it’s a way to assert himself as someone who’s doing something, someone grasping for any power that’s left. So it’s less a moment of snapping than the actions of a scared and messed up kid who refuses to let anyone be a good influence on him.

As for them taunting him and challenging him to a battle…

SOLLUX: 2he’2 riight, man. can’t beliieve thii2, ii wa2 lookiing forward two a nap two.

Sollux doesn’t actually want to fight Eridan. He fights him to stop him from going to Jack and leading him to the meteor. And while nasty words are exchanged,

SOLLUX: oh GOD, iit’2 hiim.
SOLLUX: ff can you tell hiim two go away, ii don’t even have the energy for thii2.
ERIDAN: hey finless this doesn’t concern those wwith mustard sludge slippin through their vveins
ERIDAN: its a matter for royalty
ERIDAN: so keep your mouth closed or ill slit you open ovver my next meal
SOLLUX: w/e bro, not iintere2ted.

Eridan gives as good as he gets. It’s not poor baby Eridan who stood there with his lower lip wobbling and tears glittering in his iridescent amethyst eyes as mean mean Sollux and that bitch Feferi poured on the abuse. Like seriously.

I don’t understand why I have to have this argument with some regularity. I don’t understand why there’s something about Eridan that draws people out of the woodwork desperately trying to explain away his actions or talk about how he was provoked or he was not that bad. He was a kid. He was raised in a shitty environment that made him monstrous. And then he killed two friends while being willing to let the rest die too. He was sawed in half and died horrifically and no one shed a tear, but he made his fate himself. No one was holding his hand and helping him aim. Tragic backstory only gets you so far before you are responsible.

When I first read Homestuck, I didn’t really care much about Eridan Ampora. The fandom, however, has worked diligently to make me hate him. I see plenty of posts defending him and explaining away his actions, which makes me uncomfortable, because people with his mentality exist in our world. They’re the people I have to fear. Kanaya talked to him and made him a magic wand and wanted to restore their race, and he killed her because she tried to stop him from getting away. He destroyed the matriorb in a fit of childish pique. He had no reason to, beyond that he saw Kanaya wanted to protect it. He killed a girl who had done her best - not perfectly, but she was thirteen - to rise above her cultural conditioning and to dream of (eventually literally) a better world. Feferi was young and ambitious and kind, and Eridan blasted a hole through the stomach of a girl he claimed to love and left her body to rot.

But they called him names, or whatever.

Chapter Summary: Felicity faces the music and meets her future spouse for the first time.

Author’s Notes: Thank you to EVERYONE for the outpouring of support for this chapter! I’m so glad you’re all excited for it. I’m currently in the middle of chapter 10 and everyone’s enthusiasm is very motivating for me. For a long time, I wasn’t sure I was going to post this. When I first started planning and writing it, back in September, there weren’t a lot of mob-related AU fics out there. Of course, that changed very quickly (most of them focusing on Bratva, but still mob-related) and I started to worry that I might step on toes by posting my own. This is *not* Bratva, more just a generic mob family type setting. I was inspired, first and foremost, by The Godfather (as evidenced by Oliver’s exile after committing murder) with a little dash of Beauty and the Beast thrown in. :) It’s a strange combination, to be sure.

This is what you were all looking forward to after last chapter: Felicity meets Oliver! Though, if you want my personal opinion, their interaction in chapter 3 is what really gets this party started! I should have that for you on Tuesday!

Once again, thanks to mersayseh for looking over these chapters for me. She’s been the biggest cheerleader for this story!

You can also read this chapter (and subscribe to updates) on Ao3.

“This is unbelievable,” Felicity Smoak muttered, clutching her handbag and glaring out the windshield as her father steered them past sprawling estates.  "I can’t believe you would put me in this position.“  Or that she’d let him put her in this position.  The last place she wanted to be right now was in her dad’s car on the way to the Queen mansion to meet with the grand matriarch and her erstwhile, philandering son.  Especially since that meeting was supposed to end with their engagement.

It was like something out of a nightmare.
