not until the last moment

It would have been epic to wait until the last moment to ruin Paul’s HOH, but maybe Jessica’s thinking was he wouldn’t want to waste his week on them so they wouldn’t have to use the hex and would be safe next week as well? However, I could see Paul putting them up just to force them to use it so next week they could go home.

Thoughts on Patroclus

Friendly reminder that Patroclus should not be remember simply as “Achilles’ bitch”.

Friendly reminder that Patroclus was a little shit. He had the power, the looks and the skills, and he knew it. Not only he excelled at battle; he did it while taunting his enemies all the fucking time cause he was going to win and he knew it.

Friendly reminder that he was the one guy who got to call out on Achilles, something no one else dared to do. In fact, men went to ask him to call out on Achilles because everyone was scared of him. Except for Patroclus.

Friendly reminder that Patroclus had advanced medical knowledge, something extremly rare at the time. He healed many of his friends and comrades during battle. Hadn’t it been for him, many great warriors would have died.

Friendly reminder that Patroclus was loyal to a fault. He was always by Achilles’ side in battle. He never disobeyed Achilles orders. The one time he did, was the time he died.

Friendly reminder that Patroclus was kind and had a soft heart. He cried because while Achilles’ Rage lasted, he wouldn’t let any of his men enter battle, Patroclus included. And while Achilles’ troops were hiding in their ships, the rest of the Greek army got crushed. Patroclus felt so powerless and helpless because he couldn’t do nothing as he saw his comrades dying.

Friendly reminder that Patroclus had a character crisis. He had to decide whether obeying his Lord’s commands and abandoning his friends in battle, or going against his Lord’s wishes and engaging fight.

Friendly reminder that he refused to stay behind like a coward. He chose to enter battle, but since he was a honourable man he told Achilles about it. Friendly reminder that he managed to sway Achilles’ Rage. Friendly reminder that he managed to convince Achilles to let their troops rejoin the war, thus returning the victory to the Greeks.

Friendly reminder that Patroclus was flawed. He committed hubris. He got so battle drunk and was so excited by the prospect of finally ending the war, that he disobeyed Achilles’ direct command not to fight near the walls of Troy, and chased the Troyans back to the limits of the city. To the place Achilles had specifically told him not to go because it would be too dangerous. Friendly reminder that this one flaw is his downfall.

Friendly reminder that Patroclus doesn’t go down without giving one hell of a fight. Friendly reminder that Patroclus was so strong that Apollo (the God that protected Troy and Hector [Troy’s heir to the throne]) had to face him and repel him four times. Four times. A god. If that ain’t badass, then I don’t know what could be. In the fourth time, Apollo got inside Patroclus’ head and made him dizzy. Patroclus fell and Apollo removed him from his armour- Achilles’ armour. Patroclus ended up unprotected, vulnerable and dizzy in the middle of the battle field; so a random dude saw the opportunity and stabbed his back with a spear. But was that enough to make him go down? Oh heck no. The pain snapped him out of the dizziness. Patroclus realized he was in a very troublesome situation so he decided to fall back… but at that moment Hector engaged him in battle. And Patroclus wouldn’t retire from a direct combat, oh heck he wouldn’t. Even though he knew this was probably the way he would die, he fought with his all.

Friendly reminder that lacking his armor, tired from battle, with a spear wound on his back and only Achilles’ sword left as weapon, Patroclus faced Hector, Troy’s greatest warrior and didn’t fear.

Friendly reminder that when Hector sheathed his spear in Patroclos’ stomach, Patroclus thought about the love of his life.

Friendly reminder that with his last breath Patroclus smiled at Hector and told him “You are a dead man. This will be your downfall”. Friendly reminder that until his last moment, he was a little shit.

Friendly reminder that Patroclus is a flawed, well-rounded, badass character and that he deserves so much more than his current position as “Achilles’s love interest”.

You’re crying. I’m so sorry.

No! That’s what I want! You yell at me because you love me!

2 years ago 21 men were martyred. One wasn’t a Christian until the last moment.

“Their God is My God”

“Following the brutal murder of a group of Coptic Christians by members of the Islamic State (ISIS) on February 12, 2015, the names of the 21 martyred men were widely shared. Prior to the beheadings, the victims were kidnapped while residing in Libya, where they were working in order to support their families.

Initially, it was believed that all of the men who were slain for their faith were from small impoverished villages in Egypt. However, while the name and background of one of those killed was first unknown, Mathew Ayairga was soon identified by friends who recognized him in the video footage of the killings released by ISIS. According to “Ahram-Canadian News,” Mathew, who had been missing since January of 2015, was from the country of Chad.

The video showed each of the kidnapped men dressed in orange jumpsuits, kneeling on a beach, with their black-clothed attackers standing behind them. Each man was then systematically beheaded. The video clearly captured many of the men praying, “Lord Jesus Christ,” in their final moments.

According to reports, Mathew was not a Christian. However, just moments before his death, when the ISIS militants demanded he follow Islam, Mathew turned them down. After reportedly witnessing the “immense faith” of the Egyptian believers, he decided to become a follower of Christ himself. On camera, one of the terrorists asked Mathew, “Do you reject Christ?” He responded boldly: “Their God is my God.” He then became one of the 21 men who laid down their lives for their faith in Christ.”

(Spoilers for GotG 2)

So I was wondering… Yondu probably had that Zune he wanted to give Peter for a while already. Either he bought it even before the battle for Xandar, or in between the battle and the stuff that happened with Ego. Either way, he would have had the Zune for quite some time. Long enough that he got around to tell Kraglin (proudly, like “Look what I found for Quill”) about it.

Taking Yondu’s, uh, trust issues into consideration, and given the fact that during the mutiny, he couldn’t really go to his room and pick it up… that would mean that Yondu carried the Zune on himself the whole time. Safe in his pocket, until he met Peter again and could give the thing to him. Or sneak it into Peter’s pocket, if he wanted to make sure that he wouldn’t have to face the boy’s gratefulness. Or at least only from a safe distance, no happy hugs involved, because he can’t deal with those.

So that leaves – Yondu, carrying the Zune on his own person, before and during the mutiny and the flight to Ego’s planet.

Which led me to thinking – how did Kraglin get the Zune? He was the one to hand it to Peter.

So either they took the Zune from Yondu after Yondu died - but that would have led to at least one of the others seeing the Zune. Especially Peter wouldn’t have left Yondu’s side, and neither would Rocket and Groot have.

Or, which I actually like to headcanon: Yondu gave the Zune to Kraglin before leaving the Quadrant and heading down to Ego’s planet.

Because, honestly… Yondu didn’t make the decision to die on the planet in the spur of the moment. You can see in the way he tells Rocket to leave and take care of Groot, and the way it dawns on Rocket, that Yondu already had made peace with the fact that he would die for Peter. Anything to keep his boy alive. He knew there was this minimal chance of himself surviving, and he was okay with that as long as he could save Peter. And he also knew instantly when this chance was gone, knew that he would die.

Which means he had to make last preparations. Which, for one, was to leave the Zune to Kraglin for safe-keeping, telling his first mate to give it to Peter once everything was over.

And, let’s be honest: Once Yondu handed the Zune over to Kraglin, telling Kraglin to “give it to Quill, once things have calmed down”… the moment Yondu willingly handed over the Zune he had carried around all this time for Peter, Kraglin probably knew that Yondu didn’t think he would come back.

If this headcanon comes even remotely close to the truth, then that means - Yondu knew he would die, and Kraglin knew Yondu  at least thought he would die (even though Kraglin probably didn’t want it to be true, believed against it until the last moment), and the last thing the two of them probably talked about was Peter and the Zune they wanted to gift him with.

I watched Standing Rock protesters dance for victory. Then the police arrested us.

STANDING ROCK, N.D. — Where there was once a teeming city of prayer and resistance, there is now fire, ash and mud.

On Wednesday, police started forcing out the water protectors of the Oceti Sakowin Camp, which became the front lines of the Dakota Access Pipeline protests. The police raids swept up at least 40 of the remaining water protectors on Thursday, who were determined to camp there until riot police pulled them away. Until the last moments, with smoke billowing over camp and the mud up to their ankles, the Standing Rock resistance danced and sang for victory. Read more (2/25/17 12:15 PM)

Classes have only been in session for two weeks when you have your first paper due.

Your fingers are rubbing at a pair of tired eyes while you yawn in protest. Leave it to you to put off your assignment until the last moment. Now, it’s midnight and all you have left to do is read through and edit, but your mind keeps wandering to thoughts of fluffy pillows and cozy blankets and the squeaky mattress awaiting you in your dorm room.

The library is silent, lights blindingly bright in an effort to keep occupants awake. You’re seated next to a window that looks over the entire campus, all the glowing lampposts and vacant sidewalks and ivy-coated brick buildings. The view is spectacular, and it hasn’t helped you stay focused for the past eight hours.

You lean back in your seat with a heavy sigh, clasping your fingers over your eyes. When you open them again, a girl at the next table is glaring at you over the screen of her laptop. You’re on the second floor—the silent floor—and apparently loud breathing is not allowed.

You press against the edge of your table, sliding your chair out enough for you to stand. The library closes at one. You know for a fact that once you get back to your dorm, there will be no way to keep yourself out of bed. If you’re going to make this paper acceptable, it needs to be soon, and you’re going to need some caffeine.

He called and you came running.

Knock Knock.

The door swings open; a boy dressed in a white shirt, blue jeans and timberlands greets you with frightened doe-eyes. “Are you-”

“Yes I am.” You push your way in, not having enough time to slip off your shoes politely. You take one quick scan of his apartment. “How much time do we have?”

“She’s coming in five minutes.” He says in alarm, scrambling to look at the clock.

1. Do not call him. While it may be hard for you to sleep at night without hearing his voice, I can promise you that it is not hard for him to sleep without hearing yours.
2. Cry. It is okay to cry, it doesn’t make you weak. Keeping it bottled up makes you weak, letting it out makes you stronger.
3. Love. Love the flowers, love dogs, love cats, love those stupid fucking raisins that you hate, love everything that he hates. Love your life while you still can. Love yourself. While he may have been able to leave you, you cannot. You have been stuck with yourself from the moment you took your first breath, and you will be until the moment you take your last. Embrace that truth with open arms.
4. Take care of yourself, take care of your friends, take care of your family, take care of strangers. If you feel as though you have a heart full of love with no one to give it to, give it to the world. It needs it a whole lot more than he does.
5. Don’t be afraid. Let people in, trust people, stop being scared of your own shadow because of him. Not everyone is going to lie to you and abandon you, but not everyone is going to tell you the truth and stay with you. Be careful, but do not be fearful.
6. Stop listening to his favorite songs or his favorite band, stop listening to those stupid songs that tug at your heart strings and make you think of the first time you held his hand, stop torturing yourself over something that you had no control over. It really wasn’t you, it really was him.
7. Please remember to eat. If he doesn’t love you now, he will not love you if you lose 40 pounds in a month, and you won’t love you either.
8. Stop trying to be enough for him and learn how to be enough for yourself. I promise you that no one will ever love you more than you can love yourself, and I can promise you that nobody deserves your love more than you do.
9. Learn to appreciate the little things about yourself that he couldn’t stand, like the way you pick at your nail polish when you’re nervous, or the way that you twirl your hair around your fingers when you’re trying to focus, or how you tug at the collar of your shirt when you don’t know what to say. Appreciate the little things about yourself that make you different, because they are the only things that make you, you. Never let anyone strip you of your individuality, especially some stupid, hormone crazed, teenage boy who still needs his mother to dress him at 17 years old.
10. Talk to new people and make new friends, you can never have too many. Have a conversation with the quiet girl in your class who disappears to the library by herself at lunch, and then invite her to come have lunch with you, or ask her if she would mind your company at the library. Make everyone feel at home.
11. When he leaves, don’t isolate yourself or turn your body into a walking shrine of all of the memories that you two created. Get out of bed, brush your teeth, brush your hair, put on a nice dress, for no reason other than the fact that you want to look good for yourself. Step outside of your front door, sit on the porch, sit in the grass, take a walk, soak up the sun, fall in love with the world. It is so much more beautiful than he ever will be.
12. Reinvent yourself for the better, and turn yourself into someone you would fall in love with, and then do it.

Powerful Tips for the Last 10 Nights of Ramadan

1. Do not let your ‘performance’ until now affect your last 10 days. The moment of forgiveness could be today or anytime in the coming days! It is not all lost! If you sincerely wish it could have been better - Chin up and get ready to make it your best yet! Start with a positive, sincere intention!

2. Today, take a little time to read the Tafseer of Surah al-Qadr to understand what actually happens this night! You will feel its power & greatness so much more!

3. Do not wait for the 27th Night to give it your “all". The entire last 10 days should be your target. Stay up each night! Would you want to miss Laylatul Qadr even “by chance"?

4. Do not fall into any innovations/celebrations any masjid or culture might try to promote. Follow the Sunnah! The Prophet (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) guided us simply: “Whoever stays up and prays on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”

5. Memorize and keep asking the dua’ taught by Rasulullah (sallAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam): Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-‘afwa fa’affu ‘anni (O Allaah, You are forgiving and You love forgiveness, so forgive me).

6. Prepare a short dua’ list. Remember this is as awesome as it ever gets for a servant of Allah! The Night of Qadr, of Destiny! Consciously pick each and everything you crucially wish for in this dunya, in your deen, family, and in your aakhirah! Don’t forget to include the brothers and sisters around the world who are suffering and in grief!

7. Take brief naps during the day, if possible. Keep your stomach light and sleep as soon as you have prayed ‘isha. Do not delay! After a brief nap, refresh yourself and get ready for worship.

8. Don’t neglect your family! Rasulullah made it a point to wake up his wives throughout these nights! And yes, your children are not too young to stay up some part of the night - if they can be allowed to play video games or watch TV, they can be inspired to be up atleast for sometime! Prepare them, make them excited, plan some activities for them to do!

9. Look the Part: The way we dress and prepare has a big effect on our psychology. Wear your best, perfume yourself, and feel the energy!

10. Choose a spot, whether in the Masjid or in your home, where you can have peace and solitude. Keep your mushaf, praying mat, and water at hand so that you are not distracted by constantly getting up for this or that.

11. IMP: This is not the night to tweet pics or update FB statuses about how amazing the night is and how you are feeling & worshipping Allah! Let that be a secret between you & your Rabb! So switch off those phones, wifi, laptops and computers. Disconnect with the world, and connect with al-‘Afuww!

12. If you find yourself feeling sleepy, vary your acts of worship. Alternate between qiyaam, heartfelt dua’a, reading the Qur’an. Do not spend the night listening to lectures or recitations. Or do it only for a short while when you feel the sleep coming on!

13. Patience is the Key: The last 10 days might be tiring. You might still have work or school. This is the time to bear all that hardship, and keep firm sabr. Think how Allah has blessed you with this tremendous opportunity that might NEVER come again in your life again. If you knew for sure that this was your last day, if you knew certainly that Jannah was up for grabs, wouldn’t you sprint for it no matter what it takes?

14. This is most important: Keep husn adh-dhann bi Allah (good expectations from Allah). When you ask, remember you are asking the Most Generous King. If you hope for the best, He will give you the best. Don’t hold back. Trust in Him, pour out your heart in front of Him, and let no doubt, no barrier, no evil thoughts keep you away from ar-Rahman, ar-Raheem!
