not sure how much i actually like this

real talk about alicia clark in 3x05 for a second and how this arc of hers is actually a brilliant piece of storytelling like…

if ftwd was a classic literature novel, your 11th grade english lit teacher would be lecturing on how alicia clark’s self-destructive spiral is an allegory for the millennial let down and apathy of the 21st century.

alicia clark grew up as an upper middle class millennial, in a nice suburb home, with a nice, seemingly well-rounded nuclear family. she and nick probably played little league soccer and have a box in the attic of old metallic plastic trophies.

she tuned out her world in favor of her ipod, lost herself in her studies because she was college would be the key to getting whatever she wanted out of life.

and now? all that pretty, painted ‘you can be whatever you want when you grow up! you can change the world!’ bullshit has been ripped away from her worldview and she sees the truth.

alicia clark could be a normal twenty-something going through her quarter crisis. useless college degree that put her tens of thousands of dollars in debt, dreams of saving the whales and ending world hunger crushed for the monotony of filing papers and learning microsoft excel.

english teacher’s lecture? all those zombies are corporate workers, dragging ass all day to get no where. lost in capitalism, in the draw of their cell phones. no recognition of the world around them, just consume, consume, consume…

alicia clark’s existential crisis is great television because it’s fucking relatable. all the pleasure has been sucked out her life in favor of survival. while she runs from zombies, we’ve got master’s-educated people working for minimum wage (or less). we’ve got brilliant young men and women who are always one mistake away from living on the streets or going without food this month. (or one congressman away from losing our health coverage for vital, lifesaving medications.)

it feels like it’ll never end. the struggle just brings more struggle. there’s little hope.

she tries drugs and sex and activities like cliff diving to feel something, to enjoy a moment in her miserable fucking existence. we… also do drugs and have sex and enjoy high-adrenaline activities lol, but additionally have the luxury of shit like enjoying our avocado toast and sending snapchat videos with silly dog filters and playing pokemon go for 8 hours a day, because if you can’t fucking get anywhere with the skills and degree that you worked on your whole life, at least you can smile for a moment when you finally evolve your bulbasaur.

idk, alicia clark’s existential crisis is brilliant and i’m loving it. rock on, my broken lil bean.

@boo2dalu thanks so much for elaborating!!  i know it’s difficult to verbalize stuff like this so thanks just for making the effort!

i feel like my work just looks so messy so it’s interesting to hear how other ppl perceive it.. i actually used to do really painstakingly clean lineart but i don’t have the hand or patience to do that often so i decided to embrace the messy lines @@ i’m not sure how to describe my process since it is kind of just natural and spontaneous..

i think one thing that has helped me find lines and draw in general is doing life drawing in pen/sharpie; by doing this, i was forced to only use lines that i wanted because i couldn’t take any back.  being unable to erase or edit forces you to be more accurate quicker and forces you to accept your mistakes

having trouble with your art is 100% normal though, and any artist will tell you the same.  :)  every artist ever has felt like they’re stagnating or regressing (and if someone says they haven’t felt like this, they’re either lying or very inexperienced)  drawing new subjects or practicing a medium you’re not used to can help, but sometimes it’s just a wednesday and all you can do is wait

thanks again!

Fanfic Ask Meme: M and V?

Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?

Oh lord, so many. I mean, last night @portraitoftheoddity mentioned an amnesiac!Steve and Loki AU that sounded like a lot of fun so now I’m kind of sidling up to that one and eyeing it nervously like “okay but I shouldn’t start another epic yet so should I wait or start writing bits of it now”, and this is how I end up with forty WIPs.

I list a bunch of them on my WIP masterlist, but if I were to expand on any of those right now…

  • AU where Thor and Loki both fall into the Void: the linked post talks a fair amount about this one, but it would be so much fun in the delightfully self-indulgent way such things can be, but I’m not actually sure where it would go. Like, I have all this set up and whumpy potential but not an actual plot, and that in this situation would not actually work. So that’s why this one hasn’t started yet.
  • AU where Steve somehow ends up in a world where Loki won (but then he lost) and he and Loki have to travel together through a post-apocalyptic landscape. I mean, basically what it says on the tin. It’s kind of a variant on a fic I already started, but this one would involve a lot more of the kind of “unwilling working together” theme that I love, and I’ve written one post-apocalyptic AU that I really enjoyed (and like post-apocalyptic fiction in general), so this could be a lot of fun. But the main reason this on hasn’t started is because…it’d end up being huge. So I’m going to wait at least until I finish one of my existing long-ass WIPs to start this one. But it’s one that keeps chewing excitedly at the back of my brain. I actually thought of it as a potential MCU AU fest fic, but then I realized how big of a project it would be and that I definitely did not have time for it.

A secondary (or underrated) character you want to see more of in fic?

I’m inching my way back into small book fandoms where almost every character doesn’t have enough fic for me, but let’s see.

I’d love more fic about most of the minor Asha’man in Wheel of Time. Also more Mehitabel Parr in Doctrine of Labyrinths fic. I would also probably kill for more Laura Kinney fic. Yeah, yeah, all of these I could write myself, but…I can only write so much. Unfortunately I have a full time job or whatever.

As far as MCU goes…more Sif is always good. There’s a certain amount of Sif fic out there, but more Sif-centric stuff especially would be delightful. I’ve also talked I think about wanting more Rhodey fic, especially fic where he interacts with Sam.

I think Maria Hill is an interesting character I’d love to see used more, too.

I’m tempted to put Monica Rambeau here too, partly to spite the Monica Rambeau anon but also because she is an underrated character I’d love to see more of.

general li mulan

okay so i LOVE mulan okay. as far as i’m concerned it’s a Perfect Movie and doesn’t need any fixing. but i was thinking today and -

- what if mulan didn’t go to war to save her father?

say her father is dead, okay, killed by the previous war. so she’s raised by her mother and grandmother, women who’s complacency and softness has been worn away by necessity. she needs to marry well, for her family’s sake, because her mother has refused the hand of every man who offered. but mulan is even more rough around the edges than before, is educated not only in books (her mother said men wouldn’t find smarts attractive and grandmother pointed out that men aren’t always around and off to school mulan went) but in the sword too, taught to her by her classmate, ping.

mulan is considered in the lower end of the upper class, coming from a family of military men and scholars and successful merchants. ping is near the top, the son or nephew of an advisor to the emperor. his family is very rich and very important, and the reason they become friends is because mulan manages to notice something about him that he’s been hiding from everyone else - he’s going blind.

not totally blind, enough to get around, but blind enough that reading is difficult and swordplay is even worse, although once he has it down he has it. ping is no fool, he’s not weak or bumbling. his eyes just don’t work. so mulan notices and confronts him about it. she promises to keep it a secret, and hey, she’ll even help him with his assignments by reading the books out loud and helping him study. but in return he must teach her the sword, must teach her about military and tactics. he agrees.

ping and mulan become very good friends and there’s some raised eyebrows about it but they are TOO far away in class for it to be inappropriate, so they make tutting sounds and disapproving faces and let it go.

then the draft happens. ping can’t go to war, he won’t survive it. not with his eyesight like it is. so mulan offers him a deal - she’ll go to war for him, in his place. in return, if she survives, he must marry her. if she dies he must take care of her family.

ping can’t make this kind of family decision on his own, so he goes to his mother and tells her everything, about the eyesight and how he’ll die if he goes and mulan’s offer. his mother says he must keep it a secret from his father, but agrees - if mulan fights in her son’s place and survives, a wedding will be arranged. either way, mulan’s family will be taken care of. ping will be sent to live with some cousins in the meanwhile.

“you’re not in love with me, are you?” ping asks, helping mulan saddle her horse in the middle of the night. she scoffs and rolls her eyes, “not even a little. but marrying you will make my family happy, and besides, you’re my best friend,” she says, smiling, “better you than some grabby old man.” he smiles and hugs her and says, “i’m not in love with you either. but don’t die out there. we have a wedding to plan.”

so mulan goes to the camp, pretending to be ping, and she’s a little bit less lost but things still go as they go. she’s educated and trained, so it’s not hard for her to pass as ping. shang is keeping a special eye on her, thinking that she’s the son of an advisor, one of his father’s friends. and he sees how easily she excels, how quick thinking and smart she is, and starts giving her more and more responsibilities. by the time they’re called out, shang considers ping ie mulan to be his right hand man, and possibly his best friend.

he’s also a little bit in love with ping, and he’s long known he’s attracted to both genders, so he watches ping laugh and smile and the crease between his eyes when he frowns and does his best to let his feelings chase away the best soldier he has. every time shang looks at ping his heart clenches and he things to himself: i wish i could have you, i wish this was a time and a place where one man could have another, i wish you were a girl, is wish i was a girl - i wish we could be together. he’s literally a step away from doodling ‘li ping’ with little hearts over his battle plans.

so the battles happen. shang and ping lead their men together, respected and loved. they each get promoted, and promoted, and promoted. it’s been years, and it comes to a point where they’re both generals in their own right. they trust each other, care for each other. and are both secretly in love with the other.

mulan is so conflicted. because she wants this war to end and to go home and settle back into life and become ping’s wife, so she can have an easy life spent studying and learning with her family taken care of. that’s what she’d wanted. but now what she wants is shang, her best friend, her brother in arms, her fellow general. she wishes to be everything to him, aches to be the woman on his arm and in his bed, but knows it’s the one thing she can never be.

then that final battle happens. mulan’s quick thinking saves them all and ends the war - but she’s injured.

shang finds out the ping has been a girl all along. he demands explanations - so she tells him everything, that she traded places with ping to save him, to become his wife.

and the lies should sting the sharpest, but they don’t. she’s still the same person, after all. it’s that she’s promised to another man, for one second he’d thought he might have her, but no. so he agrees not to reveal her but he’s furious and furious at himself for being furious and they’re not the same now, broken and splintered and neither of them know what to do.

the war is over. they leave. mulan returns home, and thanks to her ping is now known as a respected general. she’s done her part and survived, and now she gets her reward - ping’s hand in marriage.

but she sees ping for the first time and flings herself into his arms and starts crying. she tells him everything, because he’s still her friend, her very best friend besides shang, the man whom she lied to and betrayed and loves. and ping listens and takes her by the shoulders and says - i’ll uphold our bargain, if that’s what you want. you can be my pampered wife, you’ve more than earned it. but if you want to go to shang, i won’t blame you. you deserve your happiness.

and mulan goes back and forth, but ultimately she decides she has to try. if shang rejects her she’ll return and marry ping and uphold her family honor. but if shang wants her - he’s not as high up as ping, but he’s high up enough to satisfy her family, and also she would love him and want him if he was no more than a farming peasant so it doesn’t matter much anyway.

she rides to the capitol. she finally meets ping’s father, running into him while looking for shang. “ah mulan,” says this man who was never supposed to know of her until she became his daughter-in-law, “i didn’t expect to see you here. how fortuitous. walk with me.” she does, wary, and that’s how she discovers - he and the emperor had discovered her deception a year in, but at that point she’d already proven herself too skilled and valuable to lose. he tells her that he will uphold his son and wife’s deal and gladly welcome her to his household - but that she’s earned her rank as general, and that he and the emperor have no problem with letting her keep it.

she says thank you, shocked and joyful, but that she has to talk to someone first. “ah, yes, young general li,” he says, eyes twinkling, “i do believe he’s around here somewhere.”

she has no idea how he seems to know everything, but she finally tracks down shang who’s ecstatic to see her and hates himself for it. she confesses - says she loves him, that she’s engaged to ping but willing and able to break this engagement for shang. who is dumbfounded and elated and says yes, of course, finally and forever.

and mulan accepts her rank and marries shang, and they become the literal power battle couple of the general li mulan and general li shang. ping becomes a scholar and marries a very nice young woman who loves reading and is happy to read aloud to her husband with his failing eyes.

and they all live happily ever after.

shadowhunters kissing stats

okay, i’ve been wanting to actually sit and do this for a while and finally i have. i remember talking, briefly and dramatically, about the disparity between the length of kiss scenes in shadowhunters between het pairings (read: pairings that include clary, mostly…) and magnus/alec (the shows current only nonhet canon relationship) so i’ve actually compiled Numbers and Data

maths is definitely not my strong suit and if anything seems glaringly wrong, sorry. also, obviously this is just from skimming through episodes - if i missed something, sorry - but in my mind, this looks pretty accurate.

the actual list of numbers and timings is below the cut, but i just want to make a few points clear

  • magnus and alec are probably the most heavily promoted and well-received couple on the show and are a main couple
  • magnus and alec have been together for more time than clary and jace were together and more than simon and clary have been together
  • i have included all ‘’pairings’’ that kiss on this show, this includes camille/simon etc
  • i can’t really be bothered doing any commentary on why this is important rn, i may reblog this later and make more comments but feel free to reblog and comment on this
  • pay attention not just to the total times, but the longest kiss scenes each pairing gets, and how many kisses the total time is spread over
  • have fun getting mad w/ me lmao

i think my favorite thing about the SMH team is just how willing they are to just accept people– and not even accept them, but make them feel immediately welcome. Like… how long do you think Ford was even the manager-in-training before they went to that show and freakin’ cheered for her? a week? two?

like for real, sports’ teams can be very exclusive. (hell, regular friend groups can be a bit standoffish!) And she isn’t even technically on the team. And Ransom and Holster are going to be gone before she is actually the manager? But those two (and I’m sure Shitty and Jack before them) have set up this culture where it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been there or how long you will overlap, if you are part of the Team, you get treated as part of the Team. Pretty much immediately. Literally so fast.

like… these boys.

Imma stop there. Feel free to add on, that was insanely long and I might write an actual thing for this?

Dean’s Plaid

Summary: You and Dean do NOT get along. Until the night that you do.

Warning: smut, anger sex

Word Count: 3200

A/N: Hope y’all enjoy some Dean smut! XOXO

There are two things in the world you really hate: plaid and Dean Winchester.

There are plenty of things that you don’t like, that irritate and annoy you, that you’d rather not deal with. But those are the only two things you actively hate. A store with a window display of plaid clothing is enough to get your blood boiling these days. And Dean? Well, you make sure you never think of Dean. That just tailspins your world into a mess of violent anger for days before it wears off.

So the fact that you are currently wearing one of Dean Winchester’s plaid shirts, listening to him hum along with the radio as he drives you to his motel?

Yeah. You’re gonna need something to kill.

Or you could just kill Dean.

Change.

You’ve never despised a word so much in your god damn life. It mocks you, rips every little aggravation from the world and throws it right into your fucking face. It’s turned your life completely and totally upside down. Then it spun you the fuck around just to make sure you’re officially screwed.

Having just moved from New York two weeks ago, you can now call Nashville home. Forget a different state, you feel like you’re in a freaking different reality. The friendly residents alone throw you for a loop. You’re slightly convinced that they have some ulterior motive. Then again considering the shady fuckers in your past, you could just be paranoid.

Growing up in a big city has given you a tough exterior that the men around here seem to be intimated by. It must be the way you carry yourself, also the permanent bitch face that you’ve acquired over the years.

anonymous asked:

Maybe this is perverted of me, but I noticed in the new pictures that Rey's cleavage and Kylo's 'package' are being readily displayed by their new costumes. If Reylo is happening, it makes sense that SW would want to up the sexiness. They did it with Padme's more form-fitting and revealing dresses in AOTC.

I don’t think you’re being perverted at all. Let’s look at Rey and Kylo in turn here. So we have Rey:

Here, she has a tiny, form-fitting white shirt on that displays her cleavage. From the BTS shots shown at Star Wars Celebration, we know that Rey is wearing this outfit in the rain, so the fabric will presumably be clinging and potentially even slightly transparent. She’s also going to physically exert herself in this outfit (running, fighting), so it’s not unreasonable to suppose that there will be lots of heavy exhalations and sweat involved.

While she seemed almost childish and innocent in The Force Awakens, here it’s clear that she’s starting to express her sexuality and is being presented as a woman rather than a girl. And that reminds me powerfully of this quote from Rian Johnson: “It very much feels like what we all go through in adolescence, the dawning of this new chapter of our lives.” While Rian doesn’t spell it out, developing a sexuality identity is a big part of adolescence. So I absolutely think we’re seeing Rey as a sexual being now because we’re going to watch her grow up and experience attraction and desire (among other things).

Then with Kylo you have him looking much more masculine and physically dominant than we’ve seen him before. In The Force Awakens he was primped within an inch of his life and appeared almost pampered looking, whereas in The Last Jedi he has a much more naturalistic look with layers literally stripped away. While he seemed like an awkward and petulant adolescent in the Vanity Fair image of Kylo for The Force Awakens, he projects confidence and physicality now. The absence of the outer robe means we can see his legs, and that will offer him a much greater range of movement. While it’s not as obvious as it is with Rey, the trousers are quite form fitting and you’re meant to notice that this is a powerful and attractive young man rather than a scary, faceless wraith (which is pretty much how Kylo was promoted for TFA, Vanity Fair image excepted).

This stuff has actually really tickled @bastila-bae and me, since we spoke about this exact topic in an episode of Scavenger’s Hoard a few weeks ago (I’m feeling quite prophetic rn). I said I was afraid of sounding like a perv then, but they’re now making the sexualisation so blatant in the publicity images that it can only be a deliberate artistic choice.

Of course, I’m sure this has absolutely no narrative implications and will have no impact whatsoever on Kylo and Rey’s interactions when they reunite. The characters’ costumes and appearances will be entirely immaterial to how they relate to each other, since we all know that the visual element of film is pretty much irrelevant.

Bughead moments...

There was so much content in this episode:

That opening scene!

  • The way they are hanging out in her room before breakfast
  • Betty once again confiding in Jughead and him assuring her that she did nothing wrong
  • Jughead’s little “come here” and his freaking smile
  • Betty cupping his face
  • Jughead’s hand on her leg!
  • Betty’s angry face as her mom interupts
  • The way that Alice Cooper is so incredibly chill with Jughead. She hates all of Betty’s friends, but doesn’t blink an eye when she so obviously interrupts them kissing
  • Alice not being afraid to talk in front of Jughead, it’s almost like she’s already treating his as one of the family

The break room scene

  • The way that Jughead settles next to Betty on the chair even though that room is filled with furniture.
  • Betty immediatly leaning up against him
  • I love seeing that they are so comfortable with each other in front of their friends

Confronting Cheryl scene

  • Couple power walk
  • Betty looking to Jughead for support and his little nod
  • The way that Jughead watches her, he is so proud of how she stands up for herself and her sister
  • Their multiple glances throughout the entire conversation. They always seem to say so much without any words.
  • Jughead’s intense “CHERYL” when she teases about not giving the message. Protective boyfriend mode activated.
  • Jughead putting his arm around Betty and nodding as if to say “It’s all going to be okay.”

The Hug scene

  • Oh my god this entire scene
  • Betty once again choosing Jughead as the person who she confides in about her family and all of the craziness
  • Jughead trying to use sarcasm to lighten the mood and calm Betty down (as he has successfully done in the past…”we’re all crazy”) But immediatly getting serious when he realizes that isn’t going to work this time
  • Jughead’s look of alarm when Betty talks about the Coopers not existing anymore
  • JUGHEAD’S MONOLOGUE TELLING BETTY TO NOT GIVE UP. Have you ever heard something more beautiful?
  • How his voice gets so strong when he talks about her being stronger than all of the white noise
  • The way his voice breaks when he says “Don’t let go”. He might be thinking about his own family and how his mom let go and how he wasn’t able to keep them together. He doesn’t want the same thing to happen to Betty and he knows that she is strong enough to stop it.
  • That collar grab!!! That killed me.
  • Betty taking Jughead’s words to heart and assuring him that she won’t let go.
  • The hug! How Betty holds him so tightly and how he reaches one hand up to hold her head.

The Mama Cooper Scene

  • First of all, I just love how Betty brings Jughead with her for support wherever she goes.
  • The fact that Jughead has now been in the Cooper’s house at least 4 times that we have seen.
  • Jughead inviting her mom to write at the Blue and Gold…oh my god. Betty looked to him to ask, so was he the one who came up with the idea?
  • Mama Cooper and Jughead’s interactions in this scene are so easygoing. She obviously approves of him and he is obviously comfortable with her.

The ending scene

  • Okay, but the fact that Archie goes to Betty and Jughead because he knows that they are the two most likely people to actually do something about this information warms my heart.
  • I love how Betty and Jughead are immediatly on the same page with suspecting Hiram Lodge.
  • Archie looks confused when Jughead starts writing something, but Betty already knows what he is doing.
  • Look how excited those two dorks get at a new possible suspect. They barely refrain from jumping up and down in joy.
  • Also, I love that Jughead is the one who wrote all of the names on the board. He loves the idea of a murder board so much and I’m sure our little extra boy loves putting a new name up.
  • I just love our two dorky sleuths okay?
Just a theory on these two.

They’re VERY likely a Pearl and a Ruby. While the Ruby’s Gem placement is exactly like Navy’s, I’m not sure if they’re the same Ruby. I feel that she’d have a much harsher reaction to Steven being there.

I think that this was a Ruby that was assigned a Pearl for her hard work (Eyeball mentioned being able to get her own Pearl for example), but they had feelings for each other and wanted to fuse, which the Diamonds very clearly weren’t happy with.

Or this actually CAN be Navy and her very own Pearl that she was assigned for what she did in Room for Ruby, but things went wrong. They also look pretty “incomplete”, like how cotton candy Garnet looked in The Answer.

It’s like The Answer, except it went way worse.

Ok, I am dying with Cas feels as per usual, but it was dean that broke my heart in this ep. Dean, whose greatest fear is telling people how much he cares and then them leaving him. Cas did what he feared most- but Dean is so sure of Cas he didn't shut him out like he did other times people do that. He just got angry and set out to find him. yes, to kick his feathery butt, but also- he actually went? He refused to let cas leave him? just??? feelings ******

GOD it’s like!!! Castiel did literally everything wrong in this episode as far as Dean goes. He acknowledged that he did receive the voicemails Dean was leaving, and he still didn’t pick up his phone. He comes back to the bunker and gains Dean’s trust back by falling into some quiet intimacy when the two of them are alone, and then he betrays that trust by stealing from him in the same moment. He, for all intents and purposes, steals the Impala. The IMPALA. After Dean handed him the keys. These are all Dean’s biggest pain points and insecurities! And Dean fixes Castiel’s stupid truck and he follows him because it’s literally the only thing to do.

But it’s not just obligation. It’s obviously not. Because when Dean thinks Castiel is about to die, he still screams. “No!!!” He’s clutching his broken arm, sprawled in the dirt, and all Dean can worry about is Castiel’s wellbeing. After Castiel pulls out a win - finally, fuck - Dean walks toward him in almost a daze. After everything, he still trusts Castiel to put his hands on him and heal him, so he lets him. This episode hurt like hELL, but mostly because Dean isn’t running away. He isn’t letting GO. This episode put at its forefront the struggle of Castiel proving his devotion to the Winchesters, but through showing and not telling it was also about the Winchesters’ (Dean’s) devotion right the fuck back at Castiel.

Like, guys. He made him a mix tape.

Nalu

**warning: this was supposed to a cute quick post about Nalu but I ended up getting too deep on Natsu’s side of things woops ¯\_(ツ)_/¯*

If you ever have doubts that Natsu and Lucy love eachother in the more than a friend type of way just remember drunk Lucy gets all blushy and excited & has hearts all around her because she thought there were 2 Natsus

call me crazy but I’m pretty sure you don’t react like this to people that are just your “friends”

you don’t just get heart eyes for anyone aight like she’s so in love

also I’m not even going to began to talk about those bedroom eyes she gives natsu from time to time but here’s a post on that:
http://lucielhyung.tumblr.com/post/159011956395/get-a-significant-other

remember wayyy back when Levy and Juvia tease Lucy about liking Natsu and Lucy responds with:

then fast forward to now

like she’s not even denying that she’s head over heels for him  hello
I really feel like at this point for her she realizes that she does indeed love him

As for Natsu, for someone that is super expressive and speaks his mind, he doesn’t really show the same signs Lucy does. He hardly gets embarrassed or flustered, has no problem getting super close to Lucy’s face, or even seeing her naked except in the chapter 438 when Lucy’s towel fell off lmao he was hella caught off guard
It’s obvious that he does have a soft spot for her but is it the “more than a friend” type of way? Of course I could dig up anytime he’s been super overprotective of her, when future Lucy died and he cried, when he tried to kiss her bc Asuka was wanted them too, or even the time that him and Lucy fought Kain which people like to think is when Natsu realized he “loved her.”
but I’m only going to talk about 3 moments (realistically 1 which you’ll see but I thought the other 2 moments were kinda significant) in particular that make me believe that Natsu does see Lucy as much more than a friend:

When Natsu dug up a rainbow sakura tree for Lucy when she was sick

Ok so this moment isn’t necessarily me trying to prove Natsu was/is in love with Lucy especially since this was still in the early episodes and I’m one of the few that believes they barely even acknowledged their “feelings” once Natsu returns from his one year training mission after Tartaros
but can we just talk about how ROMANTIC this was?? and they both didn’t even realize it? Natsu straight up dug up a huge ass tree, put it on a boat, and sent it Lucy’s way because she was too sick to see them herself. when will your otp that’s actually canon ever

Natsu letting Lucy wear his scarf

OkAYY also with this one I knowww it’s just a cover and not even in the actual story BUT I still think it’s important because Mashima put it there for a reason!!
Natus’s scarf, the thing his deceased father made him, the thing he treasures so much that he neverrr has it off even when he’s swimming, the thing both Lucy and Gray made sure to get back to him because they know how much it means to him, THE THING HAPPY CALLED LUCY A MEANIE FOR BECAUSE SHE ACCIDENTALLY TOOK IT OFF WHEN SHE WAS TRYING TO KICK HIM OUT OF HER BED and now she’s wearing it
idk I feel like Mashima putting this is his way of showing us just how much their bond together has grown

When Natsu thought Lucy died

Alright so out of all the Nalu moments in the entire series I feel like this is the one where we truly see just how important Lucy is in Natsu’s life. Remember Zeref revealed that they were brothers and that if he were to die, then so would Natsu. Natsu was going to attack anyway until a crying Happy stopped him saying that he didn’t want him to die and Natsu basically agreed to temporarily retreat.
Fast forward to the moment Natsu thought Lucy was dead, he cries and then END is awakened. And the first thing he wants to do is finish off Zeref.
Natsu KNOWS that if he kills Zeref, he will die as well but at this point he doesn’t care because he thinks Lucy is dead. But really think about this. Natsu, the person that is always telling people to not give up and more importantly to LIVE, too not DIE for your friends but to LIVE for them, was basically heading into a suicide mission. way to be a hypocrite natsu lol
“You can’t stop me anymore! No one can!” that line really got to me because I feel like it just shows how hurt he was. He really didn’t care about what would happen to him anymore, where not even Gray could reach him.
He didn’t want to live in a world where Lucy didn’t exist.

Since you brought up the sort of myths with fandom vs what you've seen in tv... I'm sure you've seen in probably all fandoms, there comes a time when a collective comes together to say that something is/isn't happening because of "X movie company" or "management". So my question is - from behind the scenes, how much of that is actually true? Like are there people really holding the strings like that? Or are we going crazy? 😳

The answer is it’s complicated.

Also, you’re not crazy.

Let me start by comparing TV writing to book writing. I just wrote a book, and I only got creative notes from one person, my editor. She does two rounds of notes with me (a general edit and a line edit) and then passes me off to the copyeditor, who gives me grammar and spelling and continuity notes. Then it goes to print! Easy peasy! (Well, not easy at all, it’s a lot of work, but very straightforward.)

Compare that process to the TV writing process. Every Rdale script is broken (meaning: figured out) in the writer’s room, where there are 11 writers plus Roberto, our fair boss and Showrunner. We all chime in with ideas and suggestions and Roberto decides what direction he likes best and chooses the pitches that work best until we have a working outline. Then we put the scenes onto notecards, moving them around, re-breaking, rejiggering, until the story works. That’s a lot of hands stirring the pot so far, but we have one head chef: Roberto.

Then we write an outline, which gets notes from the producers, the studio (Warner Brothers), and the network (CW). Then we adjust based on those notes, which come from a few of the execs at each company, who are smart and very good at their jobs, which involves reading and analyzing TV scripts from many shows and deciding what works well for them. They’re drawing on their whole careers-worth of experience doing this on lots of different shows to figure out how to guide the direction of Rdale.

Then we go to script. The writer of that episode takes the very detailed outline and starts writing scenes. Sometimes s/he might farm out some scenes to other people in the writers room, or sometimes the room will move on to the next episode and leave that writer to write solo.

Then the completed script goes to Roberto, who does a pass on it to make it sound like his vision for the show, and feel like the characters he has in his head.

Then, when he’s happy, he brings it back to the writers room and we all read it and go through it page by page together to revise it and give notes. At this point, Roberto has the script open on a computer in front of him, and he changes dialogue, action lines, scenes, etc. live as we give feedback.

Then, the script goes back to the producers, the studio, and the network, to get notes from them. Sometimes those notes are minimal, and sometimes they’re major, it all depends. The writer and Roberto make revisions based on those notes. Sometimes we have to go back to the room and rebreak as a group, but usually not.

Somewhere along the way, someone at Archie Comics reads it to make sure we’re taking care of the characters they’ve had and loved for 75 years.

At some point, someone in a legal department reads it for clearance, which means sometimes we can’t use certain brand names in dialogue or else we’ll get sued, and we can’t use certain people’s names unless they’re in the public eye.

Also someone in some department reads it to make sure we aren’t swearing too much or referring to something too vulgar or the FCC will fine us.

Then the script is sent up to Vancouver where production reads it and starts pre-production. Sometimes there are changes to the script at that point because we can’t get a location or we can’t get an actor because he’s booked on another series, or the weather won’t allow us to shoot somewhere, or we have to move an outdoor scene indoors, or a night scene to day for budget reasons. Revisions are made here. The actors read it, and occasionally they’ll have notes which require revisions.

Then it gets shot. Then the footage is sent to post-production, who starts to edit it. In the edit, frequently we’ll learn that our episodes are several (maybe many) minutes over, and we’ll have to cut lines, jokes, moments, sometimes whole scenes for time.

Then those rough cuts get sent to the producers, the studio, the network for notes.

You get the idea yet? There are lots and LOTS of hands in the pie here. Hundreds, maybe a thousand. If a certain idea isn’t making it through from initial pitch to the final screen, it could be any one of the people along the way raising a red flag. Usually there’s no grand conspiracy – there’s too many people with competing interests for that. If you find that you’re less than satisfied with something on your screen, it could be for the devious reason you suspect or it could be for a completely benign reason like budget or schedule. There’s no one grand puppetmaster holding the strings, but there are lots of people making changes along the way.

tldr: There are too many companies and too many people for any kind of grand conspiracy, but that doesn’t mean that a bunch of people giving tiny notes couldn’t add up to something bigger.
