Did I ever tell you guys about the time I bribed a security guard at a Panic! at the Disco concert to let me hug Ryan Ross?
There were about 40 of us waiting around in the parking lot after the show, because we knew they’d come out to meet us (this was when they were touring with Dresden Dolls and The Hush Sound, right after A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out got big, so very early on).
Their security guy, Zack, said we were only allowed to high five them. If we tried to touch them beyond that we would get escorted away.
I was 16, and Ryan was My Favorite.
I was literally joking and just trying to get on Memorable Terms with the security guard (pro-tip, get in good with security, folks), so I told Zack I would give him a fruit-by-the-foot if he let me hug Ryan.
He looked me dead in the face and said, “You have one on you?”
So I pulled a fruit-by-the-foot out of my purse (because I never went anywhere without them at the time).
I handed it over, and the guys came out one by one about an hour later.
When Ryan got to me, I looked at Zack questioningly. He nodded and said “This one’s allowed to hug you.”
And that’s the story of how I bribed P!atD’s security guard with a fruit-by-the-foot to let me hug Ryan Ross.
ok so i know i have a lot of young followers and i haven’t rlly seen any posts like this so here r some tips i’ve learned from personal experience, observation, n friends!!! i hope this helps u guys and feel free to add ur own!!!
DRINK WATER in between drinks im so serious it’ll help a lot w the hangover in the morning
eat a big meal before u plan to drink a lot n also make sure to eat something afterwards/before sleeping!!!!
know ur limit…like rlly know when to stop
if u drink wine u WILL “lose ur legs”
never ever ever drink alone!!!!!!!!!! be with people you trust to take care of u!!!!!!!!
know the alcohol content of whatever ur drinking bc if u drink a couple of beers ur gonna be alright at the end of the night but if u go for The Hard Stuff just know ur gonna get hammered way sooner
dont drink if u dont want to bc peer pressure is real n it’s more than okay to say no
(i only drink red wine so i would say to only have 3 glasses of it bc after the lucky number 3 things go down hill pretty fast)
dont take drinks from strangers!! never leave ur drink alone!!! always carry it with u wherever u go!!!!!
dont switch drinks like if ur going to drink beer then stay with that choice all night dont switch to whiskey you’ll thank me later ok just trust me
again…..know when to stop
dont get absolutely toasted every time u drink bc thats not fun
before u go to bed make sure to lay out a glass of water n pain killer just in case u feel like garbage in the morning
just know that u will say and do embarrassing things when ur lit it’s inevitable
dont go to bed without washing ur face or showering,, this isnt a real tip just a reminder that it’s better to be hungover n fresh than hungover n nastee!
if u wear sunglasses indoors everyone will know ur hungover but it’s ok bc #relatable
turn off ur phone when u go out bc like u have to be super super intoxicated to actually drunk text but better safe than sorry!!! ur ex wont think it’s cute btw!!! (also drunk selfies r sloppy n no one knows what ur gonna post when ur out of it lmao)
dont post pictures of urself drinking on social media just dont (especially if ur underage)
if you’ve never drank before know that when u get Tipsy the room will be fuzzy n even if u dont know it ur going to be stumbling lmao
dont wear high heels if u know ur getting drunk just DONT bc then ur going to have to go barefoot wherever u are n that’s never a good idea bc germs
know that drinking is 100% ok for young ppl (18 or over) n that it can be fun but u absolutely do not have to do it, u can stop whenever u want to, and it’s not an every day activity!!!!! don’t make it a habit bc it’s a good time until it’s not!!!! just make sure ur comfortable and safe and it’ll be ok!!!!! stay safe everyone n bottoms up!!!!
take the time now and become so fucking good. practice; constantly, everything. learn everything you can. get upperclassmen, staff, anyone you can, to teach you. learn from your own mistakes, learn from the mistakes of people around you. learn from every source you have at your disposal. get creative. play easy songs you enjoy, because they will motivate you to practice. practice hard exercises that make you want to give up, because they will make you better. take the years you have now and become the best you can be, because regardless of what situation high school lands you in, you will be so good your chances at become better will soar. your peers will look up to you, because you have so much to teach and share. your superiors and staff will look up to you, because you have developed habits and skill and that are invaluable and have so much to give. you will have so many doors open to you, because you took the time to open them before you knew they existed. and finally brother, you will have learned, before your time, the most important lesson of all; what it truly means to be a musician, and that there is still so much more room to grow
So I really don’t care much for formatting questions - the normal default way you learned to make documents in school is perfectly fine - make sure you use a legible typeface and 12-point font and normal margins and put your name on it and number the pages - but I really don’t care how big you make the title, or whatever.
THAT SAID - there is a something that almost NONE of you do… that ALL of you should do when submitting mss.
From Laura Bradford:
Yep - it is ridiculously annoying to tell one of your mss from the other when reading on an e-reader. So like, here’s all you have to do:
GO INTO PROPERTIES
CLICK AND SEE – probably there is nonsense there that you didn’t ever add, like the name of your school or workplace, the nickname of your computer, etc. Whoops!
FIX IT – make the title and author match the title and author on your actual doc, and get rid of any other weirdness.
PRESTO! Now you should stand out on our reader! Yay!
(BTW when I say hardly anyone does this - I absolutely include my own authors. I add title, author, category, and my name to every ms I send out, it’s usually gibberish when it comes to me.)
So it was around this time when I was in first year that I started writing my personal statement. Early, I know, but I knew that it was going to be crap (and boy it was). So I started early, and did ten drafts before getting that perfect balance that I needed, as I was applying for 5 different courses at 5 completely different unis. The formula that I used and what I included in the finished product gave me three conditional offers, one with reduced requirements, two unconditional offers, and a heck of a lot of praise.
Because I submitted so early, I ended up drafting and editing around 12 of my friends statements too, all of which eventually got them into their dream universities (I was so happy for them!) So long story short, I’ve kinda gotten the hang of this over time, so here’s my bulletproof guide to writing your personal statement for UCAS.
Introduction: short, no cliches or talking about your passion (avoid that word at all costs), why do you really want
to study this subject?
Next paragraph: what are you interested in within the
subject, what have you learnt so far that’s fascinated you and what do you want
to learn more about? maybe provide an example of wider reading and learning?
Next paragraph: what have you done within the subject
and within college/high school that makes you a suitable candidate for study?
What skills do you have and have developed over time? (They like independent
learning and organisational skills a lot, if you have an example of that)
Next paragraph: what have you done outside of
college, hobbies, work, sport, and what have these taught you/what skills have
you gained? (They tend to particularly like charity work or volunteering if
you’ve done any)
Conclusion: short + snappy, why you
would be a fantastic addition to their course? Summarise your skills and assets within one sentence, like this, from my statement:
I am a dedicated student, who is
enthusiastic, organised and persevering and these qualities combined with my
love of the arts, languages and cultures would, I believe, make me a
hardworking and focussed undergraduate on your programme.
I call it a bang sentence, and so far it’s been 100% effective!
Be confident! They’ll cast you aside
in a second if you don’t seem sure of yourself
Don’t use the passive voice, and be
sure to say sentences like ‘I am’ not ‘I think I am’
It’s all about you! So make it
personal, make them connect with you
Don’t use contractions eg. I’m or
wasn’t, I am or was not is preferred
Don’t use quotes, or make jokes, or try anything wacky, just stick to your skills, what you’ve learned, and what you want to learn.
Reminder: The required length is 4,000 characters
(with spaces) or 47 lines, whichever comes first.
If anyone has any questions, about this or UCAS in general (know that thing like the back of my hand) or would like to see my statement as an example etc, my ask box is always open!
When Robbie and Sportacus first start dating; Robbie gets very self-concious about the whole thing and never really touches Sport in public 'cause he doesn't want to mess it up or do something wrong. Sportacus, when he realizes this, starts to initiate hand-holding with Robbie all the time. Sees Robbie walking? Joins him and holds hands. Robbie is standing off to the side watching the kids? Sport watches and holds his hand. Robbie sleeping on the bench? Grabs hand, leans in, and smooches.
HanD HOldIng is My WEaknESs pLEaSE stoP
GOD imagine the first time Robbie’s the one to initiate the hand holding tho. Like, he’s become so used to it that as soon as he sees Sportacus he just takes his hand like it’s nothing and doesn’t even realize what he did until he see the Super Big Smile on Sport’s face.
That’s so fluffy I could jump into it from an airship and be perfectly fine Thank You So Very Much
