not seen him

akechi’s not that wealthy. he lives on his own, all of the foster families he’s been in has been neglectful/not cared for him that much, so it’s not unthinkable that akechi’s only source of income is super limited support from his foster family and his detective work. i think his financial situation is actually really similar to yusuke’s, especially if he survives (as i am 100% certain he will resign from working with the police).

yknow I find it kinda fascinating to think about what my ygo experience would have been like if I’d watched it at, say, the same age I started watching Pokemon (instead of waiting til I was almost a decade past the target audience lol)

Like…I probably wouldn’t have appreciated Yugi as much as he deserves because kindness and compassion aren’t obvious/flashy/cool values to a ten-year-old…and Kid Me always felt pretty condescended to by the whole “character who makes obvious mistakes so we can explain the rules to the audience” trope, so I probably wouldn’t have appreciated Joey as much as he deserves either…

And all the characters would have seemed Super Grown Up from my perspective, so I would have measured their actions by adult standards and judged them a lot more harshly, and I’m not sure how long it would have taken for it to click for me that they were just a bunch of kids trying their best and making mistakes…

Would I have worshipped the ground Mai walks on more or less than I do now? Would I have been able to look past the misogyny that (if early-2000s Pokemon fandom is any indication) was no doubt swirling around the fandom at the time to see how great Téa is?

And would I have actually…thought…that Kaiba…was cool???
