not my pictures but my edits

For my fifty-sixth Evangelion book review, here is Evangelion Shin Gekijouban: Q E-conte Shuu (Evangelion New Theatrical Edition: Q Storyboards Collection), published by Groundworks.  This is a new book that just came out this week, and it is devoted to storyboards for the Evangelion: 3.0 movie.  (If you also want to see storyboards for the Evangelion: 1.0 and 2.0 movies, check out my fifty-fourth and fifty-fifth book reviews.  Or for storyboards from the original Evangelion TV series, take a look at my twenty-seventh review!)

This book is not available in English or French, but there are plenty of pictures.  It also has a removable dust jacket, however there isn’t any alternate cover art hidden underneath.  But that’s okay, because the book has plenty of interesting stuff inside, such as this lovely scene when Shinji sees Kaworu playing the piano:

The column on the left is for dialogue (or other sometimes other audio for the scene), the column in the middle is rough sketches of the visuals for the scene, and the column on the right has additional instructions such as camera directions.  However, as you can see above, sometimes the visuals are just too big to be contained in only one column… the topmost shot of Kaworu at the piano was so large that it extended into the left and right columns!

Keep reading for the rest of the book review, plus a few more pictures!

February 23rd 2017 It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these, largely because I just haven’t had the energy to craft or edit pretty photos, and doing so would have felt a bit disingenuous. So for the sake of some much needed candour I thought I’d go ahead and share some pictures of what my desk looks like right now. I bought myself a planner, calendar, and notepad as a birthday present (they are so lovely, bless Rifle Paper Co.) but am still feeling pretty blah about my work…which is why I’m watching Star Trek TOS right now instead of reading. Such is life.

Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. (1809-1894), pictured here ca. 1850.

I tried my hand at recoloring an old photo within its original frame.  The uneven vignette from fixing the discoloration around the edge of the photo leaves something to be desired, but I’m still happy with the results of the project, overall.  Returning color to a photograph is like stepping back into a historical moment–you feel like the subject could blink at any moment, as if they’re still right there and still as much a living, breathing person as you are.  That sudden jolt of immediacy is why I love doing this so much and why I’ve been practicing over the years to perfect the art.

Hey emma! I was wondering what you use to take pictures (camera, phone, etc.) and how you edit them (if you do). Thank you! Have a great day 😘

Hey! I use an iPhone 6! With Tumblr pictures, I generally don’t edit them - maybe just use the ‘enhance’ button either on my phone or iPhoto (depends how I upload them). For Instagram, I just use the preset filters they have. I do have a little post on my editing process here! You too xx

I made and posted that edit of Carl Grimes from TWD on my other account, @carlkelsey and someone stole it and put it on their Instagram, putting their shitty ass watermark on it. I need your help. Can you guys please go on their Instagram and report the picture and tell them that it belongs to @fangirlkelsey (my Instagram) and that it’s from @carllover on tumblr? I’m having so much trouble with them. They won’t take it down so I’m hoping that even some of my 11.5 thousand followers will help me out. ✌🏻️

Hey! I'm making a wall of pictures in my room and I want to include a few pics of Luke, but I can't really decide which ones, so do you have a few ones you like where he's pretty pretty af af haha?! (I'm trying to do an aesthetic with blue/purple/pink-ish colors, it also includes constellations/witchcrafty things/greenhouses etc... if it can help!) thank you! ♡

Hi love! This was literally my favorite thing to do because I love putting things like this together. These are some of my fav Luke pics (it was hard tho because he’s magnificent in literally every single one) but I tried to stick to purples and blues, and threw in a black and white because they are my favorites too. Please send me pics of your wall after you’re done if you want! You can come off anon I don’t bite! :)

Also, I don’t own or take credit for any of these pictures or edits. If you see yours here, feel free to message me so I can give you credit!!

let me know if you use any of these!

Hi Emma, how do you take your beautiful pictures for tumblr. I want to start a journal blog but I don't know if my phone camera will suffice.

Hi! I have an iphone 6s, which I use to take all my pictures and I edit then with the VSCO app. I’ve been looking into different apps, but VSCO is just what I’m used to at this point. Right now I think my phone is just fine for my tumblr, but if I end up putting a lot more time into YouTube and eventually start my own blog, then I’ll likely invest in a camera. But I’d say to start out your phone camera should be just fine! Hope this helps!
