This video explores how Disney uses languages in songs throughout several of its movies, including Moana, Frozen, Brother Bear, Lilo and Stitch, and Pocahontas.

Some things I learned from watching?

  • The difficulties of translating songs because of syllable differences between languages
  • Moana’s We Know The Way seamlessly transitions between Tokelauan and English without changing the melody - something new to Disney
  • How songs sung by characters on screen vs. songs sung off screen in native languages can convey culture to an audience
  • Some songs in Brother Bear were sung in Iñupiat but by a Belgian choir
  • Nani sings Aloha’Oe to Lilo, a song about farewells written by Queen Lili'uokalani, Hawaii’s last monarch
  • A lot of Native American music is sung with vocables:  syllables that don’t have linguistic meaning but are significant as lyrics for music

Are Lilo and Stitch actually confirmed Autistic? Like is that a legit thing, that'd be so so cool

The creators will never say they are but hell creators won’t even say Sherlock Holmes is autistic who is like the most autistic character ever…expect maybe the fictional dude “who wrote fantastic beasts and where to find them” hmmm what was that characters name?

oh you sweet naive nice person you, you think allistics will ever give us recognition of any fictional autistic characters besides on seasme street?

ya don’t hold your breath on that one, silly allistics.

but ya I’m actually trained academically in both literature/cinematic review AND being able to officially diagnosis people with autism and yes both Leo and Stitch are definitely autistic (and I wonder about Jamba) but its not like official official it never will be probably cuz ppl are silly.

I kinda head canon that Susan and Bendy have a relationship similar to Lilo and Stitch cause who doesn't love those two. They get into trouble over mischief and it's usually Bendy's fault. xD Also be on the look out for a comic of these two that may or may not be a reference to the movie~. I really enjoy drawing them together. ;3

Pretty close, honestly. Bendy’s not…as bad as Stitch, especially not early on. Because spoilers spoilers spoilers
