It really is an unbelievable country and their people pull together at times like this. My family is on the ground helping others. Mostly in hospitals as 4 of them are medical professionals, but there’s always more we can do. Ill be donating part of my NJ convention income to the disaster relief. I hate that I'm easily hurt by criticism. I don't want to care about everything everyone says, so how do I know when to care? Thanks (isfp)

It’s not pleasant to be criticized and it’s hard to go through life without having to hear some criticism, therefore, it is indeed important to be able to know when criticism is constructive. First, your attitude towards criticism should be one of taking an opportunity to learn something about yourself. Second, and this might be a bit harder, you have to know what the person’s intentions really are. For example:

  • Some people criticize because they genuinely care about you and have your best interests at heart. Perhaps they see you going down the wrong road and they really want to help. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are right but it does mean that you should hear them out, then reflect and be honest with yourself about whether they are making a good point or not. If they are, then listen and adjust. This is a great way to grow as a person when you have trouble seeing yourself objectively.
  • Some people criticize because they are trying to manipulate your perception/feelings for their own selfish (hidden) agenda. Obviously, you should be wary of these people as they might be trying to gaslight you in order to gain more control over your decision making process. Emotional abusers tend to do this because creating a state of constant self-doubt in you will slowly erode your self-esteem, which will give them a chance to take more control over you.
  • Some people criticize because they have an axe to grind. Perhaps they have some weird personal investment/vendetta/obsession in wanting to influence you, dominate you, or undermine you, or to avenge some perceived “wrong” they feel. Perhaps they are (subconsciously) acting out of envy or jealousy, which might only serve to bring you down to their level if you engage (thus proving their point in believing you’re not all that great and deserve criticism). You should be wary because they’re not thinking about your best interests, rather, they’re misdirecting/displacing their negative emotions and you just happen to be the unlucky dumping ground.
  • Some people criticize because they project their flaws/issues onto you and it’s easier/safer to criticize you rather than face themselves, especially if they view you as being inferior and an easy target (for example, some cases of homophobia). These people are rather pitiful and it’s a good idea to ignore them until they go away and bug someone else. Engaging with them is usually a bad idea because they will not be open to hearing what you say. Even if you speak the truth, they will see everything you say/do as an “excuse”/“defense”, which might only energize them to criticize/attack harder.
  • Sometimes someone you dislike criticizes you and you might be tempted to ignore them just based on your feelings about them. In such a case, you have to differentiate between “who” is saying it and the “content” of what is being said. Just look at the facts of what was said or imagine that it was someone you like saying it, then you can evaluate the criticism more objectively. This is a good idea during sensitive discussions about politics or religion. Remember that moral issues are rarely black and white, so someone can criticize you from a place of having conviction in their values and principles and it doesn’t necessarily make them a “bad” person though you disagree with them. Criticisms can be discussed openly and calmly if both people are emotionally mature enough.

There are other reasons why people criticize but I think you get the idea. Pay attention to HOW people criticize, whether they focus on an idea, a particular behavior/action/decision of yours, a correction of a mistake, etc OR whether they’re making an unwarranted and excessively personal attack to influence your emotions/self-esteem (the equivalent of childish name-calling or button-pushing) - if it’s an unwarranted personal attack, then it’s probably their issue, not yours. Be honest with yourself and you will know whether the criticism is valid or not. If it’s not valid and their intention is not to help or care for you (or, worse, their intention is to control or harm you), then you would be right to ignore or resist as necessary. However, if there’s something negative/unpleasant about yourself you don’t want to see and that’s the real reason you’re reacting against the criticism, then ignoring it would be detrimental to your personal growth.

Hello! I'm Morgan! I started following you not too long ago and I'm very impressed with your blog. I just wanted to ask. More than anything in the world, I want to be a cosplayer. However, I just have no idea where to start. It all seems to daunting, it's terrifying really. Im at such a loss, and I just really want the satisfaction of making my own costume. Of just going. "I made this." Is there anything you can offer to help me? Thank you so much!

Hello there!

Cosplay can seem pretty daunting before you start, but if you break it into smaller bits or start with small things, you’ll be able to start before you know it.

As with anything, learning to craft your own cosplays takes time and practice. Almost no one is able to whip out amazing and complicated cosplays on their first try. There’s two components to this: practicing and working your way up to more complex costumes, and having patience with your own learning.

I would start small. Is there a costume you want to do where you can make some components and buy or modify others? Or a cosplay with a relatively simple garment that you can make, like a shift dress? If you have someone who can teach you to sew, or a way to take sewing lessons (look at fabric stores, local parks districts and libraries, and local community colleges for classes), that will get you started a lot faster and easier than learning on your own. If you don’t have anyone to teach you, start with a beginner-level pattern and watch video tutorials on how to operate your sewing machine.

As for starting a cosplay, it helps to break down all of the components and figure out what they are before you begin. A lot of costumes aren’t practical for daily wear and have a lot of unusual detailing, so making a list or sketching out all of the pieces can help you with not only keeping track of each item, but also so that you can look at the costume not as a big, daunting entire Thing, but instead as “pleated skirt” and “button-up blouse,” etc. You can then take it slowly and tackle each item one at a time rather than getting overwhelmed by the whole.

Once you gain more experience, you’ll start to figure out a good workflow and order of operations for each costume you do, as well. Since this varies by costume and personal working style, I can’t help you much with that,  but it’s something that will come with experience.

As for the steps of starting on a costume, I give panels on this subject! Here is the powerpoint.

Mostly, it’s about hanging in there, choosing a costume that will teach you skills but also not be too difficult as to frustrate you, and starting small. I believe in you! We all have to start somewhere, after all.

I hope that helps! Good luck :]

hello new friend please talk to me about rebecca/nathaniel from CEG

i’m high key in r/n mode right now. i’ve watched ‘josh is the man of my dreams, right?’ an embarrassing number of times in the last week (like…at least once a day help i have a sickness)

aaaaaaaaaannnyyyway, this means i have a lot of thoughts. let’s go chronologically!

  • first of all, their instant attraction to each other (and i don’t even mean ‘let’s have intercourse’ type attraction necessarily – more like the way they’re drawn to each other in general) fills my heart. nathaniel’s known rebecca for, like, five minutes before he starts being jealous and snarky about josh
  • and let’s talk about josh…nathaniel’s introduction happens during the episode where josh and rebecca get together for real for the first time in the series. they have a legit, both-people-understand-this-is-a-committed-relationship relationship and it’s EXTREMELY new. yet, rebecca practically isn’t paying any attention to josh because nathaniel is the only thing on her radar.
  • sure there’s the whole ‘my friends could get fired and i need to help them’ angle, but also? when she’s in bed with josh all she can talk about is nathaniel himself and how he’s dumb and plays water polo etc. so part of her fixation is definitely about the man and not just about the situation.
  • moving on to the next episode, they only have one scene together, but nathaniel’s still jealous and definitely bending over backward to get her approval/attention. (pls see this gifset for an absurd thing he says to her in their one scene and its hilarious implications)
  • more importantly, though, this episode is full of hints at their similar issues. binge eating when upset. unhealthy relationships with parents. how deep their misery goes once you break away bits of the front they put up.
  • so by the time we get to ‘josh is the man of my dreams, right?’ these two have a really interesting connection that’s bubbling beneath the surface. it’s barely been touched on, but there’s something there
  • which, of course, EXPLODES when we get to see their chemistry. everything from the interested-in-your-boobs stare to ‘i like to saturate the wood’ to the way they slowly inch closer together when they’re sitting on the elevator floor crackles with that chemistry. it’s SO GOOD. honestly, i can never be very articulate about it because it just works for me. there is no way to explain you just gotta *gestures at this episode* LOOK at them. don’t you feel it???
  • and we definitely have to talk about ‘let’s have intercourse’ because i love the choreography so much. it’s suggestive, but never in a vulgar way. it’s all so pretty and i’m 100% about that #aesthetic
  • PLUS (this the last thing i have to say about this episode…….for now) have you ever seen a man YEARN so obviously as nathaniel plimpton the third when rebecca tells him she’s getting married in two weeks and he sTARES OFF AFTER HER??
  • i swear his expression is torture
  • ugh, wait, one last thing - THAT KISS
  • okay so now we’re up to ‘is josh free in two weeks?’ and WHOO BOY i am here to tell you that this episode almost knocks out ‘josh is the man of my dreams, right?’ as my favorite rebecca/nathaniel episode. IT’S THAT GOOD
  • first we have (sad, unstable) rebecca casually referring to nathaniel  as ‘foine’
  • but more importantly there’s the scene where nathaniel’s trying to do work and he just…can’t focus because all his brain has to offer is rebeccarebeccarebecca. he’s suffering and i LOVE IT. especially because he’s so lost in thoughts of rebecca that he talks to himself out loud in his office and then seems so shaken? it’s incredible how rattled he is to feel something for her
  • and not just a sexy something! the fact that ‘i never even wash my hands’ makes it into his flashback montage and not, idk, rebecca on top of him reads to me like he’s just as attracted to her ability and professional acumen as he is to her heavy boobs (dense like dying stars)
  • i’m gonna let my tags about THIS SCENE do all the talking because i have nothing else to add a.klbnsd;glb
  • just kidding, i will repeat one thing: he wanted to see her so bad
  • AND THEN much later in the episode, he’s the one she chooses to open up to about her dad not coming to the wedding and how that hurts her feelings.
  • what does nathaniel do with this information? HE GETS HER DAD TO FUCKING SHOW UP i’m-
  • please enjoy this gifset of them hugging
  • while we’re on the topic of the hug, can we talk about his surprised smile and the fact that nathaniel probably hasn’t received many hugs, like, at all?
  • which brings us to the season finale. their moments are few and far between, but they say a lot….mostly about nathaniel. rebecca has other shit going on.
  • anyway, nathaniel coming to her rehearsal and all but begging for rebecca’s attention? again, he’s suffering and i LIVE FOR IT
  • and finally!! the solidarity he shows for her when he won’t give her dad his plane and calls him a dick!!! he is on her side 100% and lsdkfnb;dsgl SEASON THREE IS GOING TO BE INCREDIBLE

that, um, got out of hand but i have one last thing. if you like fic, i have written this one-shot here.

and i’m in the process of writing what will probably be a three-part little thing and there are plans to include some classic bed sharing so…get hyped!

i'm not able to see my doctor for about a week and a half because he's pretty much the only one in my area who works with trans men, so i was wondering if having hot flashes and migraines is common within the first couple weeks of T, or if i should maybe go to the hospital or something?

It’s a normal thing to happen when you first start T! You’re basically going through male puberty and the menopause at the same time, so you’ll get side effects from both. Hot flashes and migraines are symptoms of the menopause so you should be fine. If you do want to go to your doctor then they might be able to give you something to help out with it, especially your migraines they can give you something to help!

i want to stop being friends with someone lowkey but at the same time i want to try and be friends but everytime i try and have a normal conversation with them now, they find a way to piss me off or be problematic in some way but i’ll feel bad if i cut them off because we used to be super close and i’ve helped them through a lot. but at the same time if they use the fact that they’re going through a tough time as an excuse again. i’m done. i’m going through a tough time too buddy old pal it doesn’t make you special. and like i wanna help you. and i want you to get better and to be able to talk to me. but also i can’t talk to you anymore and it’s not fair for friendships to be one sided. hELP

hey, so im a 16 year old trans guy who was outed to my family two years ago. since then, theyve gone from thinking it was a phase to being actively transphobic. my mom literally refers to me as “s/he”, both my parents refer to me as delusional and have repeatedly told me im selfish for wanting to transition. ive resigned myself to having to put up with this until im 18, but when im legally an adult i want to be completely financially independent from them so they cant hold back my transition by threatening to cut me off. ive already given up on going to college, because i have no way of paying without their help. ive applied to several jobs, but haven’t been hired anywhere yet. my paypal is if any of yall want to donate. im currently really bad at digital art, but i can draw you something on paper for $5-$10. if all of my followers donated $1, id be able to transition & start a new life where im not constantly afraid. please, donate or rb if you can. this means the world to me

I miss this place. I miss making funny things for all of you. I miss interacting with all of my wonderful followers. I miss meeting new people. I just miss it all so much.

But I’m afraid things beyond my control have kept me away. I just don’t have the energy or concentration to keep up with my tumblr. I have a hard time coming up with funny ideas. I have an even harder time finding a way to turn those ideas into posts. I’ve had to give up photography all together. I tried just eating a meal with my parents for my birthday, and after ten minutes of sitting up straight, I ran out of energy and had to lay back down. My chronic fatigue, my narcolepsy, my depression… they all seem to fight one another in an unending battle that just keeps getting worse and worse. It’s hard to describe just how tired I am. How fatigued my body gets. How my limbs feel like they weigh hundreds of pounds.

I’ve run out of doctors to see. Treatments to try. Pills to take. Injections to… inject. My only last real hope is to go to the Mayo Clinic. They have a knack for creating treatments for people with complicated medical needs. But there’s the rub. They are out of state. My insurance wouldn’t cover it. I’d have to stay for days or even weeks. I barely have enough to pay for food, much less a ticket to another state. At this moment, it just doesn’t seem like a possible option.

If there is a bright side… I’m comfortable. I’m not in any pain. I am plenty occupied with the internet, TV, and movies. And in the category of “mixed blessings” I am emotionally numb. No, I cannot feel great joy. Which kinda sucks. But I also cannot feel great sadness. No despair. I still get lonely from time to time. And maybe a little.. frustrated. But I cope with those things pretty well most of the time. I think if I did have emotions at the moment, they would all suck pretty hard. So I feel like at this point, it isn’t so bad being a little numb.

I have a couple of great friends that stick with me even when I’m a huge bummer. I have two amazing parents that take care of me when I can’t manage to care for myself. I have a quirky little dog that visits me from time to time.

I know there are chronic conditions that cause much physical and mental pain. I know I don’t have much of a life at the moment, but I am grateful that I can stay reasonably comfortable. Though I could go without the kidney stones I seem to keep getting. Having those removed is just awful and my last recovery period did not go well at all.

In any case, I just wanted to let you all know I am still around. I promise I am not giving up. But I am also coming to terms with the fact that I might not be able to do much about my situation. I will continue to seek out new treatments, medications, and even doctors that might help. I try to keep tabs on the latest research. Maybe some day they will find a key to this jail I’m stuck in.

You all have brought me so much joy. It has been an honor entertaining you over the years. This is by no means a goodbye. Perhaps just a “see ya later.” Take care of yourselves. Take care of one another. Stay strong. And perhaps keep me in your thoughts every once in a while. I guess it’s just nice knowing I’m not forgotten. Helps keep me going day to day.

Even if you could do all those things, but how could you be someone who could do that? The world would know that you were the one that betrayed every last one of our partners. Betray the memory of Charles Vane.

Charles Vane is dead. I’d do it for us. It’s how it started. It’s how it’s going to end.

Heh ya know

I have seen a few fics about either Lance or Keith having a diary and it always makes me giggle because ‘psh as if the other one is finding that shit, there’s is only one person in the entire team who is able to find that kind of stuff.’

Just, picture it, because I think it’s adorable. Let’s pretend both Lance and Keith have diaries (jorunals thx v much) and they gush about the other there, because it helps.

Can you imagine the conversations tho?

Keith: ugh, Lance is dumb to think anyone would fall for that pick up line.

Hunk: That’s not what you said in –

Keith: huNK!!

Lance: ugh, Keith is so insufferable, when is that mullet going to dissapear anyways –?

Hunk: July 21th at 23:45 pm, you wrote about it being, and I quote ‘a black mane with stars stuck on it.’

Lance: I hate you, how dare you, I put a password on it

Hunk: bondingmoment is not a strong password

Pidge: told you

Keith poping his head from the door: I heard bonding moment.

Lance: Hunk, buddy, you gotta stop reading pivate stuff, man, it’s not ethic and fair and –

Hunk: Keith wrote that your eyes are pretty

Lance: carry on

*Keith and Hunk meeting in a dark corner of the castle*

Keith: do you got the stuff?

Hunk: he wrote that his dream date is next to the beach

Keith: your service is appreciated

Lance: Is it too much to ask to just have that one person who is smitten with you and so in love and that would do anything just to make you smile? I just want someone to loooooOOOOOOOooooooove me, ugh.

Keith: *tackles hunk*

Shiro: Hunk, you need to stop readin your team’s diaries –

Hunk: Keith stole your eyeliner to write Lance a poem in the training room’s wall

170911 JYP’s Party People: Kyungsoo fanaccounts

@imhy_J: Before they sang Boomerang, Kyungsoo went ‘eh eh eh’ to warm up his voice…. the audience applauded

@o_duck3: Kyungsoo said his name is Do Kyungsoo, he’s average and not good at anything as a brief introduction. Later, Park Jinyoung asked EXO if they thought another member had forgotten or misspoke about something. Baekhyun raised his hand immediately to say that Kyungsoo is really good at acting, that there are people who know Do Kyungsoo without hearing about D.O.. After he filled out his case with praise he turned to look at Kyungsoo and smiled. If EXO as they really are was caught on camera today, it was that!!!

@sweetdream0112: After the self-introductions, Park Jinyoung asked if there was anything they weren’t able to say or wanted to add, so Baekhyun said that Kyungsoo wasn’t done yet. He really looked after Kyungsoo, asking along the lines of why didn’t you say anything about how well you sing or act or dance? TT Kyungsoo got shy and I died

@sweetdream0112: When they were asked who was the funniest member, they said Kyungsoo ㅋㅋㅋ Chanyeol specified Kyungsoo was the funniest because in a day he’ll say a total of ten things but will make them laugh out loud at least once ㅋㅋㅋ apparently he’s completely 4D

@sweetdream0112, @o_duck3, @crepe_0408: Park Jinyoung asked if Baekhyun and Kyungsoo got along when their personalities were so different, as Kyungsoo was so calm and Baekhyun was so animated. They looked at each other and laughed, saying they did get along well. Doesn’t the quieter party get stressed? Kyungsoo said no, he feels better instead. Baekhyun added that when he’s too much for Kyungsoo, the back of his neck will get grabbedㅋㅋ

@o_duck3: When Jongdae was singing Sunday Morning, Kyungsoo was so excited he was moving his body back and forth and singing along! It was so nice to see how happy he looked whenever the other members did anything and I died when Kyungsoo sang My Lady

@luv_baek_: Ah also when Kyungsoo sang My Lady, Park Jinyoung looked like he’d fallen head over heels in love ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I can’t forget what he said after Kyungsoo had finished ㅋㅋㅋㅋ He sang so well •°(° >⌓<°)°•.

Why you’re not improving your art

Have you ever felt like your art is on the same level for a long time? Have you ever felt like you can’t grow your skills. Have you ever felt like everyone around you grows in rapid speed and you are just like a snail at the end of the race?

I was thinking about that and trying to pinpoint the reasons why you might feel that way. I figured out some solutions that helped me and some other artists I know.

1. Not looking for critique/feedback

‘You can’t yourself pinpoint things you need to focus on because your eye still isn’t trained enough to pinpoint exact problems.’

This is number one problem I see and many professional artists will tell you about that. You can’t be too shy to show your work to people who can give you good critique. Look for professionals who are willing to help you and use that. Critiquing is mistaken to be something hurtful for young artists BUT in reality people giving feedback are trying to help you grow. I know how hard it is to hear that you are still not good enough, that your art is lacking something. Maybe you know that yourself but you can’t yourself pinpoint things you need to focus on because your eye still isn’t trained enough to pinpoint exact problems. The best person to go to would be professional with trained eyes who is able to say by flipping through your portfolio what it lacks and what you can do to make it look better. Don’t be afraid and seek that help. Don’t be too attached to your own art and accept that it isn’t perfect and you need a fresh pair of eyes to look at it.

2.  Not implementing the feedback

'Implementing is the key step in the process of growing.’

After you have done first step from my list and you finally found a professional willing to give you feedback try to implement feedback. Don’t just listen to it, nod few times pretending you understand what it being said. Don’t defend your art and don’t give excuses if the critique is genuine. Implementing is the key step in the process of growing. There is no use in feedback without you actually trying out the tips you were given. The whole point of that is to change your work. You are not being better artists by collecting thoughts about your art. Now it is time to do the work. It actually requires to put time and effort . Usually what people do,after receiving feedback, is  they pat themselves on back like it was 'job well done’ and being lazy. They are not willing to actually put in the work to implement feedback. It is time consuming and you need to put a lot of effort. Although without that there is not any point in seeking feedback.

3. Not trying/not failing enough

'Embrace failures as a valuable lessons.’

Yes! There is lesson in failure! As hard as it is to understand. Once you collect experience you grow from it and become wiser. You know what path to choose to avoid next time failure. Successful people are the ones that can try something many times before they finally succeed. When they finally succeed it’s just a result of many attempts they have made before. No one is born ready for challenge. People are scared to lose because for our psyche it hurts more than a win feels good. People will try avoid at any cost losing so at some point they give up and stop trying. You can’t say for sure you will be successful artist after you did it for a year and don’t see result. You are not the one deciding how long it takes. It will be done some day. some day you will meet your artistic goals. But you will only meet them by trying and failing probably hundred times on a way. Just don’t be afraid. Those mistakes on a way are path that differentiate you and a professional. They already failed many times to get to where they are now. When you understand that you will embrace failures as a valuable lessons.

4. Doing things that are not  challenging you.

'Feel uncomfortable and pick up this damn pencil and draw like no one else is watching!’

Don’t settle in your comfort zone. You’ve heard that already many times right? That is why. You limit your skillset. Good things come out of comfort zone. If you feel like you have problems drawing something you are probably right. The reason is you don’t challenge yourself enough to draw things that are difficult for you. For example if you are only drawing a boy in front view standing with hands straight it doesn’t sound like the most exciting art right? But what if it’s the only thing you can draw and it looks somewhat decent? Well then, solution for that is easy - experiment with different angles, experiment with expressions, with composition, with different species. Be brave here and discover topics you don’t draw. You art will become more interesting and you will be more confident drawing. Personally I know that this is the hardest part for artists. It is hard to let go of what we know and discover unknown. We feel vulnerable and  like we can’t really draw. This feeling sucks. As much as this feeling sucks you know what else sucks? Sucks that your skills are stagnating. Feel uncomfortable and pick up this damn pencil and draw like no one else is watching! I guarantee that after some time you will be surprised with what you created and how your art have changed.

Good luck to everyone who is on path of improvement!

I know you’ve shown how you draw faces from different angles very briefly before, but I was wondering if you’d ever go more in depth? For example, I always struggle with drawing the eyes at a ¾ angle…

Ok, I get this question so many times that I decided to do something about it. I’ve already made a tutorial about drawing eyes and tbh it should help with drawing eyes from any angle, the tricky part is to understand the human face, its anatomy. If you see the face/head as a three dimentional object you’ll be able to draw it, I can’t say it enough, 3D thinking is important. Also, references are important, drawing from life is important because then you have a 3D model of the head right in a front of you. All you need to do is observe and understand.

Part 6 of my Studyblr University Orientation Week

I see a lot of people on studyblr talking about dealing with stress and anxiety over grades and perfectionism, but not a lot of discussion of being mentally ill and in university/college. So if you’re looking for stress reduction stuff, this post is not for you. This is for my mentally ill peeps.

I just want to preface this with a little disclaimer. This is based on my own experience. I have depression, anxiety, ADD and OCD. I don’t know everything. I still have a lot of trouble coping, particularly with the last two as they were only recently diagnosed. This is just meant to be a few useful tips that might help a little bit.

  • Go see a therapist. Even if you think you’re doing okay, it’s still good to have that support system there if you need it. Your therapist can also give you coping mechanisms that are tailored to your specific needs. They may also suggest you go on medication or refer you to a doctor who can prescribe it.

  • If you are taking medication, set a reminder on your phone so that you take it at the same time every day.

  • Set about sixteen alarms in the morning, starting half an hour before you want to wake up and spread about five to ten minutes apart. If you’re anything like me and have a lot of trouble getting to sleep, you probably have a lot of trouble getting up in the morning. This technique is a lifesaver. Also change up the alarm ~once a month. I find that my body gets used to it after a while and I just sleep right through it.

  • Register with your school’s disability services. Yes, your mental illness is a disability. They’ll be able to help with accommodations (this could be anything from extra time on exams to extensions on your assignments).

  • If you think that you might be handing in a paper late because depression is kicking your ass, message your professor at least a week in advance. If you tell them two days before, they’re not going to care. And if you end up not needing the extension, that’s okay. It’s better for it to be there if you need it.

  • Headphones. Everywhere. People are stupid and loud and it’s overwhelming as fuck. Wear them right up until the prof starts lecturing. Do NOT wear them during the lecture though, your prof will hate you - though you may be able to discuss it with your prof the first week. idk, maybe you have cool profs who get it.

  • Make a friend in your class that you can get notes from in case you can’t get out of bed. I mean this is good for anyone in case of illness in general, but yeah. Depression. Woohoo.

  • It’s okay if you need to take a lighter course load because of your mental health. Loads of people do it.

  • Related: It’s okay if you take 5+ years to complete your degree. You’ll get there.

  • AD(H)D friends who stim: That’s super great and you totally should. But please do not leg bounce when you’re at a desk that has all the chairs connected to it. You will shake everybody’s seat and distract them. I get the urge to leg bounce (fuck, I’m leg bouncing rn) but please try a different stim if you could. Or bounce gently. Just no earthquakes (no joke, I literally thought it was an earthquake once and was super confused why no one else was panicking. i learned nothing that day, I was so distracted).

  • Fidget toys are the best things ever and you can use them in lecture (provided they don’t make too much noise because your prof might yell at you for that).

  • Bathrooms are your new best friend for panic attacks. Hide in a stall and take a few deep breaths to calm down. There’s a lot less noise there and you’re less likely to be disturbed than if you go to a stairwell.

  • Breathe in for 5, hold for 5, out for 7.

  • 5-4-3-2-1: Find five things in the room that are blue. Four things that are yellow. Three that are pink. Two that are purple. One that is green. You can substitute this with any colours you like. You can also do ones like “think of five things that start with f (and so on)” or “five tv shows that you like, four books, etc.” if you’re somewhere without a lot of colours (or in your handy bathroom stall). Repeat with new criteria or new answers until calm.

  • If you’ve been crying and don’t want people to know: grab some paper towels, run some cold water on them. Wipe your eyes with them. Pat your cheeks with them. It makes less of a mess than splashing your face will and I find that it helps me a lot more.

  • Schedule the shit out of your life. You won’t forget important meetings or things like eating dinner (whoops).

  • Make sure that you give yourself plenty of breaks during the day. Gotta conserve that energy, yo.

  • Find out when the library’s quietest and grab your books then. Same deal with the bookstore at the beginning of the year and buying your books. Please, the bookstore is scary when it’s busy. Save yourself.

  • Frozen dinners are cheap, easy to make, and require next to no energy. Same with cereal, ramen, and most pasta. And egg sandwiches (two eggs, hot sauce, and mayonnaise. Best thing ever.).

  • Great questions to ask the people who sit next to you in class: What’s your name (preface this with “Hi, I’m *blank*”)? What are you studying? Where are you from? How are you liking the class?

  • If you’re having trouble getting started, try for ten minutes. You may find that it’s easy to keep going after that. Or maybe you’ll need to stop but at least you’ll have gotten ten minutes of work in.

  • You’re doing great. This is a really hard thing that you’re doing right now, but you’ve got it.

Another Story Phone Call Guide

Tired of spending HG calling Ray and V when they don’t pick up? Me too! So I decided to sacrifice oodles of time and hourglasses to make you a nice spreadsheet detailing when the characters actually pick up their phone.

This is a work-in-progress. I’m not actually done playing through V’s route yet (I considered buying a day in advance but a) I don’t really have time to go through more than one chatroom every few hours, and b) I have sunk a positively ridiculous amount of HG into just phone calls alone), so this guide is only updated when I actually get the calls. I also haven’t finished filling out the chatroom titles, but I’ll get around to that later.

About the Guide:

  • I miss chatrooms, too. I jumped into Day 1 late so I don’t have many of those calls, either. So this guide is not a guarantee that the characters will pick up at every single time I’ve listed they pick up; it’s simply a list of the time when they picked up for me. Most of the time, it should be the same for others, but when I’ve missed a chatroom, sometimes calls are delayed and it may not be 100% accurate
  • That said: I appreciate help! If you’ve got information on a day that I haven’t filled out, please leave a comment! Together we can help more people get a chance to listen to more of our favourite characters ^^
  • And if you notice that something in my spreadsheet is wrong, please let me know! I’ll change it as soon as I can :)
  • Edit: If you’re thinking “I’ve called the characters but don’t remember when they picked up”, something you might be able to do is load up the file where you made those calls and look at your call log. It’ll tell you the day and time you made the call. Of course, this is going to be harder for people with tons and tons of phone calls to sift through, and if you bought days in advance it won’t be useful at all (since you could have called a character at 2pm real time but after an 8pm chatroom and it will show up in your phone log as 2pm, not 8pm). But any help is appreciated, if you’re willing!

How to Use It:

  • Each Day is in a separate tab at the bottom of the spreadsheet
  • There’s a legend on Day 1: basically a ‘-’ means I called them but they didn’t pick up, and a ‘x’ means I got to talk to them. Incoming means that character called me, and Outgoing means I called that character
  • If anything in the Outgoing column is blank, it’s because I didn’t try to call that character (so it’s possible that they might pick up; I haven’t tried)
  • I mention important things in the Notes section, like whether I missed a chatroom or if there were any bugs, etc.

That about covers it. I’ll probably make a new post when this guide is completed. I hope this helps you out!

Takama-Gahara here, I have for you a question. How draw good dergs?

Oh I’ve got you covered:

and there you have your  F E R O C I O U S    B E A S T

But in all seriousness, instructing people on how to draw imaginary creatures is a bit hard, for me at least. A lot of my learning process is based on winging it until it looks okay and makes even a little sense anatomically. I try to look at animals like birds, bats, reptiles, dogs and horses and combine traits of their anatomy into some sort of a mess of a creature. So I’d instruct you to simply start with looking into basic animal anatomy and trying to learn how animals actually work.

There are tons of tutorials that are way better at explaining things than I’ll ever be and they can get you started. Back in my day when I started drawing I was inspired by Todd Lockwood and his art. His creations gave me a good base to start building my art from. I studied the way he drew and shamelessly copied parts of his work until I felt comfortable enough to draw and try different things on my own.

Not being too ambitious when you start out is pretty important, do some simple designs, kinda like the drawing above. Just drawing some simple lizards with bat wings is a good enough start! And remember to practice, practice and practice some moreヾ(´▽`;)ゝ
