not from scratch

so sorry for such a slow upload rate. Ive been working on a game, making everything from scratch.

everything here is made by me except that starry bg. i started it about a week ago and im doing my best to put time into it.

the game is about a hard boiled producer whos down on their luck in a rancid alien city.

but thats the reason for slow uploads!! ill get back into the swing of things soon and do commissions and stuff!

I can't even imagine being a technical major like engineering or cs. What u actually learn skills in college.... most people just learn factoids that they promptly forget after the test lol. I can't imagine being asked to actually accomplish anything in a college class lol.

listen. ive built four robots from scratch and coded a ripoff of guitar hero onto a MSP430F5529 chip. i am currently gutting a snowblower and making it into a robot. dont major in engineering it’s really hard

so i was doing fic research on the wiki, and i came across a section that points out a sort of paradox in the RF world, because while there is obviously some sort of advanced technology to allow for fridges etc, all the weaponry seems to be medieval (apart from sechs stuff).

but i think this implies something really nice about the rune factory world??

it basically implies that until the sechs came, there was no need for advanced weaponry. the rest of the world was so peaceful they never had to go beyond swords and spears and staffs. sure, maybe new magical techniques were developed, and some things were upgraded, but overall, the world was peaceful.

adding to this is the fact that even sechs weapons can be defeated by the player, who uses the medieval-style weapons. it implies that the sechs had nothing to build on, that they were inventing from scratch–that no one else had even thought of using machines for battle, because it wasn’t necessary.

and. idk. i think that’s sweet.

(it could also imply that in this universe, the ‘old-fashioned’ way is the best way, and no technology will ever outrank magic. but. i prefer the other theory)

HOW TO COLOUR ADRIEN AGRESTE, PART 3

The secret to colouring Adrien Agreste?

It’s accepting the fact that his original colours are never consistent thanks to environmental lighting.

It’s accepting the fact that attempts at using a single psd to colour his scenes will backfire on regular basis.

It’s accepting the fact that colouring from scratch is less of a hassle than keeping lots of psds for a single character.

Sometimes, you just give up because it’s giving eye strain.

The second adjustment layer, the bulk of the process, the ‘selective colouring’.

It’s the ‘colour correction’ phase because I need to fix the ‘hideous’ phase.

Infamously, it’s also known as the ‘omg my eyes’ phase.

The compulsory colours for Adrien are ‘reds’, ‘yellows’, ‘greens’ and ‘whites’.

When the background feature blue skies, ‘cyans’ and ‘blues’ exist.

I do use ‘magentas’ but for rare occasions which is almost never.

I never use ‘blacks’ or ‘neutrals’ as it clashes the colouring.

Figure out the outcome of the colouring before you start colouring.

^ I use ‘reds’ for the skin.

My specific colour preference for Adrien’s skin colour is peach, also described as pale, pinkish-yellow. Be careful not too make his skin appears too red, too pink or too yellow which can occur when one randomly mess with the sliders.

^ I use ‘yellows’ for the hair.

I said be careful with ‘reds’, but be cautious with ‘yellows’ because YELLOW defines Adrien. Even though I use this to colour correct the hair, it can affect the skin as well.

Blonde hair has too many shades anyway.

^ I use ‘greens’ for the eyes.

It doesn’t really make a difference, aside from making it brighter and shinier.

^ I use ‘whites’ for the clothes, and to a certain extent, the backgrounds.

Similarly, not really a difference but anything goes.

In summary:

  1. There are no specific values with the sliders for each colours.
  2. Bright scenes are easier to colour. Dark scenes? Let’s struggle.
  3. Sometimes, you want the scene to be vibrant. Other times? Softer.
  4. I JUST WANT ADRIEN AGRESTE TO GLOW LIKE SUNSHINE OK Y’ALL

how did you learn to make themes? what videos did u watch or websites you learned from"

Actually all Tumblr themes are is just some decently simple web coding. If you know HTML and CSS then that’s all you really need. If you’re interested, codecademy is a great place to learn some. After that, some theme makers give out bases that you can modify, or you can write your own from scratch using Tumblr’s HTML guide.
