madi’s narration of the 100 leaned on the category side of fairytales, such as embellishing the grounders and mt weather as “monsters” and calling the ark a “castle” even titling clarke as the “bravest and fairest” …
as if madi was describing clarke as a PRINCESS
Okay, so this theory has been bouncing around in my brain since March, and I’ve briefly touched on it before, but I’ve never fleshed it out on here. Buckle in, homies. This is a long ride full of excessive bolding and italics, and we’ve abandoned the land of chill and “Read More”s.
In Markiplier TV, there are two heads to the table. One of them has already presented his plan to take back control. We’re about to witness the plan of the other.
What is the plan exactly? Well, that much we’re not sure of, yet, except that one of the clues we’ve been given is a piece of what looks to be a ransom note. We’ve also been given a still from some security cam footage, which, when brightened, has a clear anaglyph (red/blue) effect. (You can view the brightened version here, courtesy of the lovely @amycampbell00.) This leads many to believe that someone (Mark, most likely) has been taken hostage, and that Dark is behind it. I agree with this, but I think that we’re making a mistake in assuming that this is a recent development. In fact, the point I’m here to make in this post is that Dark has had control of the channel since his very first official appearance in February.
Let’s take a look at the psychology behind Dark as a character. He has two serious hyper-focuses: control and choice. Control is what he desires; choice is what he denies. During the Horror route of A Date with Markiplier, his obsession with the concept of choice is emphasized repeatedly.
What’s interesting about this is that he follows this statement by, technically, giving you a choice– but what he presents you with is actually just the illusion of choice. It may seem like there are different paths to take, but only one will actually make a difference. The rest send you directly to dead ends. No matter what you do, you will, ultimately, have to make the “choice” that he has been leading you to all along.
Immediately after this exercise in futility, he extolls the virtues of avoiding choice altogether and letting him have control.
Okay, so why is this relevant? Well, consider this: we also know that Dark doesn’t exactly obey the laws of space and time. (Mark directly mentioned this fact in the February live stream.) Not only that, but he has some semblance of control over it as well– when you try to escape during the Exitvideo, he immediately creates a time loop and sends you back inside. He has complete and utter control of the situation at every moment, and if things don’t go the way he plans, he can literally manipulate the world around him.
Knowing all of this, why would Dark then allow us to make this choice?
He wouldn’t. Of course he wouldn’t.
This man just spent the entirety of his time with us asserting that he was in control, and that choices are not only unnecessary, but dangerous. He set up a false choice to emphasize that point. There is no way he would give us a genuine choice after all of that. It goes against everything we know about him. Even if he was genuinely caught off guard (which I find hard to believe, but that’s a point for another post), he would not set himself up in a position of vulnerability that would immediately undermine all of his efforts up to that point. Any sort of “weakness” he would present would only be in the service of a greater purpose.
Darkiplier can manipulate what we see. He can manipulate what we hear. He can manipulate the laws of space and time. He doesn’t need to give us any power over him.
He’s tired of giving people a choice, and we are no exception. We don’t have the option to shoot Dark. We never did.
No matter what we choose, we will be shooting Mark. Mark didn’t escape on his own to confront Dark– if he had, Dark would have simply thrown him back in as he did in the Exit video. No, Dark let him escape. Dark let the gun fall at our feet. And Dark let us shoot him– except, of course, that he didn’t. The only difference your “choice” makes is how long he pretends to be the real Mark.
This all circles back around to his obsessions: he will give us the illusion of control over the situation and a choice in the outcome, when in reality, we have neither. And these things shape the most dangerous illusion of them all: the illusion of safety.
Mark isn’t in control of the channel. Mark hasn’t been in control of the channel for a long, long time. We already know that Dark can imitate Mark flawlessly, and he’s been doing so for months. Those brief moments in videos that appear to be Dark exercising the weak amount of power he has left? Those are simply to make us believe he’s not running the show. He’s practically taunting us.
He’s been pulling the strings for months now, patiently waiting for the right time to step out from the shadows and reveal his plan. Judging by the events of the past few days, he’s finally ready. The real question is,
ok so me and @bakkoush-naesheim discussed this for like three hours today, and we have a theory on the mikael and even situation. it might be reaching, but, well, this is skam, so let us reach haha.
it was mikaelwho kissed even.
so, mikael liked even. maybe even actually liked mikael back a little too, but he was with sonja. so, when mikael kissed him, even pulled away. and that’s when mikael starts to freak out. even tells him it’s okay, and he promises not to tell anyone, and that there’s nothing wrong with liking boys. but that panics mikael more. and so mikael says something along the lines of, “of course you’re not telling anyone, there’s nothing to tell.” and the more even tries to calm mikael down, the more mikael gets freaked out. and he tells even something about islam and homosexuality, and how the quran says it’s a sin, and generally, just…mikael is freaked out. which gives even the idea to start reading the quran, to help his friend out, to help mikael come to terms with his sexuality. and when he tells mikael what he’s doing, maybe mikael freaks out more, and says something along the lines of “you said you’d drop it, nothing happened, just leave it.”
so mikael begins distancing himself from even because he’s scared because even isn’t dropping the subject. mikael, freaked out about people finding out and even telling everyone, becomes paranoid and decides to get in there first. and he tells the balloon squad that even tried to kiss him. even, at this point, was probably getting closer to a manic episode, so his behaviour would have been a little…off. so the balloon squad believe mikael, and maybe mikael even exaggerated a little bit and said things like, “he’s obsessed with me, he kissed me and won’t leave me alone” etc. and thus the entire squad begin to distance themselves from even. even maybe comes up to mikael a couple of times and asks to talk, and again, this just comes off as even being “obsessed” with mikael. and it’s all one big understanding.
with all this going on, even is still researching the quran; he’s manic, so his impulse control, reasoning and judgement are all a little impaired right now. he begins to post any passage that is to do with homosexuality from the quran. not necessarily negative, just anything that mentions it. yousef, at this point, is maybe already questioning his faith, and so he only picks up on the more “negative” passages that even’s posting; the stuff that says homosexuals will go to hell, etc. this “obsession”, of course, given what the balloon squad have been told (even tried to kiss mikael), can easily be interpreted as even trying to “cure” himself with the quran/islam.
amongst all this, obviously, mikael feels awful. but he’s in too deep now. he can’t tell the boys the truth, because he’s still scared, and now there’s the added guilt of how all this is effecting even. so he stays quiet, and gradually, the balloon squad all lose contact with even completely.
even trying to kill himself wasn’t a result of him thinking homosexuality is a sin. it’s very likely he crashed after his manic episode (depressive episodes aren’t always triggered by life events in bipolar disorder (although they can be); it is sometimes simply the neural chemistry trying to overcompensate for an increase in 5ht that’s seen in a manic episode, so the body decreases 5ht to compensate, but this results in abnormally low levels which=depression). even was very lonely at this point, he was depressed, and that led to his suicide attempt. but for yousef, and for the other boys, i mean, the story writes itself: even tried to kiss mikael which must mean he’s gay, mikael freaked out bc he’s religious, now even is reading the quran so he must be trying to cure himself. even never corrected anyone on this, because correcting them would mean breaking the promise he made to mikael; the promise that he wouldn’t tell anyone what really happened.
the thing is, this theory explains a lot. it explains:
why mikael would still have even’s number (because if he truly was freaked out that even had kissed him, he probably would’ve deleted his number to get rid of all contact with him)
why mikael laughed nervously at the mention of even in the sms roulette video, and why he was so quick to shut mutasim down about it - he probably feels incredibly guilty now, hence why he said, “it’s not important”; he doesn’t want to lie anymore, but also isn’t ready to talk about it
why even is so terrified. on the one hand, this could be bc yousef’s version of what happened is the truth. obviously that version would still scare even. but on the other hand, it’s one thing being afraid of someone finding out the truth, but it’s so much more terrifying for someone to hear a lie, or a rumour, and for them to believe it. you can’t control what someone lies about. and even can’t necessarily deny what happened, because again, this would lead to mikael getting exposed.
why even told sonja about isak immediately. on the one hand, even is a Good Bean™ and probably wanted to let sonja know out of respect to her. but also, he didn’t wait for rumours to spread about him and isak. he wanted to tell her himself this time.
on a related note, it could’ve also explained the distance in their relationship. maybe he didn’t tell sonja the truth, out of respect to mikael, and sonja knew she wasn’t getting the whole truth, even if she heard even had kissed mikael. this drove a wedge between their relationship, leading to her not trusting him completely, because she knew she wasn’t getting the whole truth. this is another reason why even told her about isak right away.
why even is avoiding talking about the topic. again, he could be scared. that could be the answer. but it also could be because he doesn’t want to lie, but he also doesn’t want to break his promise to mikael.
it fits with the theme of the show!!! misunderstandings. mikael isn’t homophobic. he did a shitty thing, regardless of whether our theory is true, or if yousef’s version of events turn out to be true. but imagine this version: he lied, then…all this happened. of course the right thing to do would be to come clean, but imagine how terrifying that would be. it would not only mean he had to come out before he was ready, but it also would mean admitting he ostracised a friend, lied about him, etc. he probably feels incredibly ashamed and guilty, even though he’s in a better place in his life right now, he just wants to forget the whole thing happened.
so to conclude, the situation is misunderstanding after misunderstanding. which fits with the theme of this season. and with the theory that not everything is as it seems (sana assumed yousef is muslim; magnus and vilde appear to be in love but aren’t really).
whose to say yousef isn’t wrong when he says it was even who kissed mikael?
Virgil had a
notebook. A kind of worn out, once black
notebook with purple pen scratches all across the front. The others rarely got to see this notebook,
but they were well aware of its existence.
For the most part, no one dared to ask what it was for or if they could
see it. No one, not even Patton, was
curious enough to risk the little bit of trust and confidence building between
them and the anxious side.
That is…until Virgil
got more confident and trusted them more.
The notebook made
its way out of his room more and more, finding its way onto the coffee table,
dining table, the counters, and the sofa much more often. Every now and then one of them would catch
Virgil with his knees to his chest scribbling away in the book, and just seeing it drove them crazy.
To say that Logan
wasn’t dying to know what was in the book would have been the biggest lie ever
told in the mind palace. As the logical
side, he was also the side that enjoyed learning the most. Learning, observing…dying of curiosity. Secrets
were not his thing. They were not his “jam.” What was
his “jam” was figuring out why Virgil hid the notebook when he was using it.
And now, he had an
“Be right back,”
Virgil mumbled. The anxious side hopped
up from his spot on the other end of the sofa and dragged his notebook into his
spot. Logan watched him leave and round
the corner to his room, and it didn’t take long for all of that curiosity to
come rushing to the forefront of his mind.
What could be in
this mysterious notebook? Drawings? Logan thought of all the possibilities for
Virgil Drawings. From a Tim Burton-esque
style all the way down to an Invader Zim style.
Mainly monsters or gore…or possibly he’d be full of surprises and fill
the notebook with drawings that calmed him?
Kittens, puppies, maybe a few koalas or red pandas? Or maybe he was a classic early 2000s emo
child and filled his notebook with stitched-up, bandaged-up, and bleeding
Perhaps the notebook
contained his thoughts. What a trip that
would be. Thoughts and analyses of ever
scenario Thomas encountered. It’d
probably be a mish-mash and assorted lists of words indecipherable to anyone
But then…Virgil had
said before that he wrote. Sonnets, at
least. Could this notebook be his
Logan caught his
hand gravitating toward the book, and he snatched the offending digits back
against his chest. No, he couldn’t. He would not be the first to break. Virgil would share the contents of the book
when he felt he was ready, and Logan would just have to respect that.
…But he wouldn’t
even know if Logan took a quick peak just to see what Virgil used the notebook
…But that would
still be abusing Virgil’s trust. He left
the book there out of trust.
“I’m back,” Virgil
announced, throwing himself down on top of the book. He pulled it back out from underneath himself
and opened it up to wherever he’d left off.
“Needed a different blue.”
it’s so hard to imagine what good parents are supposed to be. I feel out of sync. watching parents interact with their children and being affectionate looks wrong, like a setup. hearing parents speak to their children with mutual respect or understanding, not demeaning them or manipulating them, looks like a façade. I feel like i should warn them. like I need to protect every kid I see. but some of them are safe? it doesn’t make sense.
i have been thinking a lot about superheroes, and how the millennium children were born without one. we live in the aging heroes of our parents and grandparents, the familiar stories with problems from eras before our own; where victory comes as a result of hard work and dedication, where goodness and truth are a promised ending.
our heroes got old. our heroes had life breathed into them again only for us to start seeing the problems: it was fantasy, there was nothing to believe in. our heroes haven’t been reborn, only a few new ones have been made. we grew up reading about worlds where justice meant something only to wake up where justice is unequal, where rich means powerful and rich means getting away with it and rich means the hero comes to dinner with you instead of spending it in brooklyn on the subway.
we watched other people get married in princess costumes in parades we’d not be able to afford. our heroes wouldn’t cater to us, we didn’t have the money to invite sleeping beauty to our baby shower. we bought movies where captain america punches nazis only to be told that we shouldn’t fight nazis. batman strings up criminals but a boy found guilty of violent assault gets off with a walk. robin hood refuses to show up, we’re forced to crowdfund cancer survivors as the wealthy get tax cuts. we love superheros, watch all of the x-men movies even though the timeline makes no sense anymore - but they’re not born from our struggles. they’re not coming from our wars.
The "I know I have other things to write but these seem so cool/weird/etc" sentence prompt meme
Because I’m absolute shit and have a habit of coming up with sentence prompts instead of writing stuff I should be working on, I present this list of sentence prompt memes.
Send me a few of these and I’ll write a drabble based off of it, naturally it’ll be a reader insert. Be sure to include which character you’d like.
You can even use them as rp starters/fanfic/whatever.
1) “I’m like 85% sure that’s illegal but sure I’ll help you.”
2) “Don’t wake me up unless there’s a fire and even then don’t.”
3) “I don’t want to talk about them, they give me a headache, and they’re dumb.”
4) “So is that a no on the burning down the place?”
5) “Ok, I may or may not have started an occult.”
6) “Alright but you gotta promise you’re not gonna be mad if I tell you what happened.”
7) “Explain to me what exactly possessed you into thinking this was a good idea?”
8) “Just for that I’m gonna have to remember to kick your ass twice as hard.”
9) “It’s 3 in the morning, why is it always 3 in the morning when you call me?!”
10) “You meme loving fuck.”
11) “You say that like it’s supposed to be offensive.”
12) “Wanna know how many fucks I give? Negative six, you owe ME fucks to give.”
13) “I don’t see the problem…what…oooh you’re talking about the fires.”
14) “I love you but if you play that song one more time I will strangle you.”
15) “Those dead bodies were here before I even got here…well like half of them but that’s details.”
16) “So the apocalypse started and I may have had a hand in starting it, so um sorry?”
17) “If you get arrested I’ll bail you out…pfft let’s be real I’ll probably be in the holding cell with you.”
18) “How the actual hell did you manage to cause this much trouble in 5 minutes?!”
19) “Why is there someone tied up in the backseat of my car?”
20) “This is why you read contracts before you sign them!”
21) “Uh, there’s someone that’s shitfaced at the door and they say they know you, is it cool if I let them in?”
22) “They say this place is haunted…but I think that’s bullshit.”
23) “The amount of alcohol I’d need to drink to make me forget about this would literally kill me.”
24) “Your daddy issues are a real turn off.”
25) “I’m gonna punch you in the mouth…with my mouth…gently…several times….”
[I’ll add more as time goes on, feel free to add some!]
no offense but like…no tv show, especially dramas, needs to be longer than 5 seasons…every show after like season 5 is watched purely for closure….no one is having a good time anymore…..like just end it were so tired
Okay, so here’s the thing… shows with a demographic like The
Bold Type’s typically have a love interest that the audience is meant to fall
hard for in its first season and ground the series’ long romantic storytelling.
Am I really trying to make a claim here that Adena is the Mr. Big of The Bold
Type? Yes. No. Kind of? Okay, so Adena is definitely NOTHING like the character
of the Mr. Big. I mean he is the epitome of straight white male privilege and
Adena is well… the complete opposite of that. However, Mr. Big was a very well
executed love interest character from a narrative perspective. The thing is: actually
delivering a good love interest character is incredibly difficult. Often, the
love interest character is treated as a trophy after a series of trials for the
flawed, but loveable protagonist. And that’s such a tired trope at this point
that most vehemently reject the label of love interest if it involves their
favorite character because it generally means the character is severely
underdeveloped. But a love interest character when delivered well can be a
delicious slow build. And Adena, is in fact, a masterfully executed character.
this is actually a very long essay so read at your own risk.
