Going off of other tumblr posts about humans being survivor space orcs and humans being loving frienddog pet buddies to other alien ships, what if the ability to attach to things was a trait of earth critters.
As long as a behaviour helps achieve the same end, evolution doesn’t care what the behaviour is. So you get both bats and birds with entirely different structures, methods, and styles to flight for different niche purposes (long distance vs. nimble acrobatics) but they both succeed at flying. The same can happen for social structures and space travel.
For most other life in the universe, social bonding isn’t a thing. You get people that you get well along with or don’t. Property isn’t necessary if it doesn’t have a function, people don’t get attached to objects. People strive to increase their station/power and therefore overall happiness, whatever that means to them, which is what encourages a group of them to work together for efficiency and shared earnings. (For example, that is. There are lots of things that could encourage life to reach spaceflight. Like spite. Or blind chance.)
On earth a few animals have evolved favoritism behaviour. Getting attached to objects, other animals, and ideas for no reason other than they like them. This helps ensure the survival of a group, so it encourages repetition. Humans are the only spacefaring creature that has favourite ROCKS because of this. Imagine having a favourite pebble out of the entire universe full of mineable minerals!
It’s just common sense that if you want to survive, add a human to your crew. Because of the space orc endurance toughness thing, being able to survive things others can’t, and being determined to keep going. Combine that with the happy space dog thing where, essentially, you put a Kirk in with a hundred Spocks. The dog Kirk is the one who’s always happy to explore and meet people and make friends and likes everyone. So if you have a being who enjoys your presence for no material reward AND extends their instincts for survival to things they’ve bonded on, you’ve basically got a big bodyguard for your entire crew. For free. You don’t have to pay it. You just have to say ‘thank you’ when it gifts you useless trinkets it found or made.
So you get these ships, and you can always tell which room is the human’s room. It’s the one full of hoarded junk. There’s sheets and dry film stuck to the walls that it ensures you is coded with dyes to make a message. The message isn’t really important, just nice. The human likes it. The human collects lumps of polycarbons that it tells you represent icons of aesthetic and memory. You don’t understand, because your memory works just fine without a visual reminder, but you learn that apparently there are different kinds of lumps and they mean different things.
The human has clothes it prefers when all its body coverings function about the same. It has days it prefers. It has abstract concepts it prefers. It has noise it prefers, and carries the noise around with it.
How would that affect a creature that prefers nothing? A species that constantly strives for a better station would have ambitions and goals for being transported to higher ranks on better ships. Logically, it would also prefer the smartest, strongest, nicest humans to protect their investments. A creature like that would check the stats on available and working humans for hire and want the best one they can afford.
But if you asked a crew which human they would want to work with? If you give them enough time, they’ll start saying their own.
“But isn’t the one on ship 4-aNui 0.93s faster at achieving the emergency fire plan escape?”
“Yes, but ours likes us more and would be more efficient at helping us, specifically.”
“That’s what humans do. They’ll like anyone they’re introduced to.”
“Yes, but ours likes us.”
“The better one will like you too if you give it enough time. I thought you knew this?”
“But I like it.”
#you can literally see the moment they notice each other #they stop whatever they’re doing #they froze still #the world just stops for both of them #and you can see the happiness on their faces when they realize they’re staring at the love of their lives #it just hits them how far they’ve come #how lucky they are to have each other #you see the realization hitting them #they’re together now #and they’ll always will be #they made it #I’m bursting into tears as I see them realize they’ll have an entire lifetime to prove the other how much they love them #this scene is everything

That awkward moment when you draw something to celebrate 100+ followers, get impatient and decide to post it before you hit 100, then take so long to finish it you end up hitting 100 before you can post it anyway.
Anyways, holy crap, this blog hit 100+ followers! Hooray! :D Where did you all come from? Why are you here?? How the hell did you all manage to fit in my house??? There’s not even enough room for that many people in here wtf.
In honor of the new year, here is my simple tutorial for setting up and maintaining a language journal. I’ve made 3 so far using this method for spanish, french, and italian because it’s so simple. Disfruta y espero que logres sus metas de lengua este año! <3
Nursey is so wrapped up in saying goodbye to the graduating seniors that he doesn’t notice Dex and Bitty disappear until Chowder pokes him in his ribs with a grin. “You’re gonna pretend to be surprised, right?”
Nursey is already surprised, and confused, but doesn’t say so.
When they get back to the Haus half an hour later, taking the long route at Chowder’s insistence, everything looks the same as it always does. That is until Nursey makes his way up to Lardo’s old room, determined to figure out what he’s apparently supposed to already suspect.
“Shit,” Dex curses when he spots him. “Uh, hey? Fuck. I mean. What’s up, Nurse?”
Nursey blinks several times in quick succession, but the image of Dex in the middle of hanging custom bookshelves on the back wall of their soon-to-be-shared-bedroom while surrounded by at least five of Nursey’s favorite baked goods doesn’t go away. “…I literally don’t even know where to start, bro.”
Dex’s head drops down with a beleaguered groan. There’s a number two pencil stuck behind one ear and a hammer hanging from one of his belt loops. It’s a good look on him.
“Not that I’m complaining,” Nursey adds.
“You weren’t supposed to know I installed this,” Dex mutters, eyes trained on the floor.
“And the pies?”
“That was mostly Bitty. I only made one of them.“ Dex shrugs a shoulder stiffly. "Well. One and a half.”
Call me a terrorist and threaten my pay? Enjoy your nuked careers, yuh heathens.
(long story. tl;dr is at the end)
I used to work in hospitality in a metro known for it’s obscenely huge tourist population, you know, the city built around the Mouse. I was a manager for the recreational division of the hotel. So one day, my boss (who we’ll call Mary for the purpose of the story) comes into the shared managers office and starts rummaging around for something, and strikes up a small conversation about work related minutiae with me. It’s important to note she is actually 2 tiers above me, but was acting as head of the department while searching to replace my previous boss who recently quit (great guy by the way, huge loss to the company).
As we’re talking, she abruptly stops and says “By the way, you need to shave your beard, you look like a terrorist and I don’t employ terrorists”. Haha, funny joke between colleagues, right? Nope. I am half Indian and I do look middle-eastern, and have been taking this kind of shit since middle school. Plus, we’re not close, at all. So I reply as calmly as I can muster, “Hey, I get you’re trying to be funny, but on my end it comes off as pretty ignorant, so I’d appreciate it if you chilled out with the terrorist stuff” to which Mary retorts “Oh, I’m ignorant? We’ll see how ignorant I am during your annual review”, and proceeds to walk out of the room in a huff. My jaw dropped so low I could taste the floor.
The sound of something steadily beeping in your ear brings you back to the surface of consciousness. You wade through the murky waters of your mind, trying to keep your cool when the simple task of opening your eyes turns into a losing battle.
Why can’t you open your eyes? Why does your body feel so heavy?
You grow more frantic as your body fails to follow through on any of the commands you direct at it. It’s not until you realize that something is restraining your arms that an overwhelming tidal wave of memories wash over your body and send you back underwater.
-Max allows himself to be ten for just a moment with his odd guardian.-
“Max?” The smaller boy didn’t look up from his game, but David could tell he had his attention. They had learned each other’s body language quite fast.
“May I hug you?” He asked, his voice never once leaving it’s somber tone.
Max’s eyes tore away from his DS, and maintained eye contact as he plopped his stylus into its slot.
“I-, Um? Are you,” Max looked around their cabin for anything that would cause David to ask such a question, “Okay?”
David looked as fine as he always was, the same smile and demeanor he kept up despite Max’s constant nagging on how annoying it was.
David laughed at the question and he sat down and crossed his legs in front of the couch.
“May I have a hug?” The older male held open his arms, Max hesitantly slid off the couch, leaving the handheld game on the cushion, and stood awkwardly in front of David.
He stared uncertainly at David who waited poised, ready to wrap the boy up in a tight hug.
Max took a deep breath, and closed his eyes as he walked into David’s chest, and almost gasped as David wrapped his arms tight around him.
He had always fought against David’s hugs, but this one felt different than all the others. David’s green hoodie had provided twice the warmth, plus it provided twice the cushion from David’s thing arms. David held him so tight.
Max wondered why he hadn’t let David do this more often.
“Your really mine, Max, aren’t you? Your my kiddo?“ David asked his words muffled by the messy curls that covered half of his face.
“Uh, yeah? You’ve had me for six months now, dumbass.” Max said as though all of this was very obvious.
David chuckled and sat his chin on top of Max’s head. “That mean’s you’re my son, doesn’t it?”
Max was taken back by the question. Not once had he ever thought of their relationship on such an intimate level such as father and son. When anyone said the word ‘Dad’, Max thought of sharp suits and cigar smoke that made the whole house reek.
Max thought of disappointing stares coming from every direction, a night shared long ago by a naive girl and a manipulative older man. He imagines a son who had to suffer for the mistakes two people made so many years ago. David was not even the definitions of what a dad was too Max.
He had a whole definition of his own.
If somewhere to say the word sweet, visions of David would swim in his head. Memories of David baking various treats, all with copious amounts of sugar and icing, stacked high on several trays. David had fussed over his weight back at camp, before he could really monitor the others eating habits. Always making comments on how he would blow away at the rate he was going at. At Max’s third doctor’s visit, the lady had announced Max was only a few pounds away from being a healthy size and David was ecstatic. They celebrated with homemade pizza and ice cream.
And if you said understanding, so many memories would jump out at Max.
When Max first arrived he had nonstop nightmares, some that’d last the entire night leaving him exhausted in the morning, and others that would require him to jolt out of bed in a panic. Those were the night David would lovingly open up the covers to let Max in, and when the temperature began to drop David lovingly made his way out of bed to prepare hot chocolate to soothe his nerves and provide Max with some very ‘sweet’ dreams. The joke had gotten a laugh out of Max.
If you said pride Max would think of their latest camping trip and how David made the best s'mores. David had been setting up the tent while Max collected the firewood. Max had tried to start his first fire while David tried to figure out how to blow up an air mattress without the forgotten pump. When Max had gotten a steady blaze built from twigs and paper, nothing matched the proud grin David had given Max. Max couldn’t stop himself from returning the gesture.
David was not a father, he was so much more.
A father was cold in both touch and demeanor. A father had a son that he considered everything but.
David was a David, and that meant so much more than any title given out by a piece of paper and blood.
Max pulled away to look him in the eyes. David’s hand fell to his shoulder and Max held them there tight.
“I’m not your son because your not my father.” Max’s tone sounded so much more childlike then David was used to, and it was such a surprise to be matched with such a grown up sentence.
David’s shoulder slumped but he kept up his smile, despite the stinging of upcoming tears.
“You’re not my dad, but that’s… That’s okay, because you are something so much better. You’re my David, and that something, so much more physical than a word, it’s right here.” Max grabbed the fabric covering his chest, and used his other hand to copy the movement with David’s sweatshirt.
“It’s right here. You’re my David because you’ve been everything but my father to me. That means so, so much more.” His chest tightened.
“But if you want to do the whole titles, I don’t have to just be your Max.” Max stepped closer, burying himself back in David’s arms.
“I can be your son, David,” Max look back up and saw David’s quivering lip and quickly tried to play off his emotional speech, “But it’s whatever, you don’t have too.”
Max found himself high in the air staring down at David.
“You’re my son, Max! You’re my entire world, you are my happiness, and that makes you my son and I’m your David.” David spun in a circle, drawing dizzy giggles from the ten year old.
“Yes, yes you’re my David!” Max confirmed, hoping that would calm down the other enough to put him down, but he could contain the burst of energy that resonated through his body making him smile and laugh.
He threw Max up in the air and grabbed him to pull him into a hug. They couldn’t help but grin and falling into each others happiness. “My Max!” He cried.
This meant something so much more to the both of them.
David squeezed the boy and fell once more to the floor. Max with his limbs wrapped around David tightly, and David stroking the smooth curls.
“I love you, son.” David whispered after a moment, the sentence feeling so foreign on his lips yet so good.
Max breathed in deeply, every muscle in his body screaming at him to reject the soft words, to counter it with something snide. Max forced himself to be ten for just a moment longer
“I love you too, David.” And it meant so much more.
A quick, non-dogs post, in solidarity of my friends I see fighting the good fight regarding indoor-only cats. This picture is from 2013 of my wee little 6lb cat Saffron, who lived the first year of her life as an outdoor only cat before she was given to the shelter and adopted by me, in her harness and leash exploring my parents’ yard. Saffron was 4 in this photo, 8 now, and will be 9 come April.
In addition to the massive amounts of damage outdoor cats do to the environment, and the massive risk of injury or death to outdoor cats themselves, Saffron had all the classic illnesses that outdoor cats regularly suffer from. Ear mites, ringworm, internal parasites, and more. The ear mite infestation was so bad it took more than 300 dollars and emergency surgery to unwrap the wax, dirt, and mite balls that had formed around her eardrums. It took more than 1000 to fix everything that was wrong with her after she came home- money that would not have been spent if she’d been restricted to an indoor-only life.
Saffron is now nearing the start of her senior years as a pampered and much beloved house pet. She has an entire room dedicated to keeping her happy, with specialized cat furniture, her favorite toys, a high quality diet, and regular trips outside on leash to allow her the chance to sniff and scratch in grass. She is a fantastic weight and is a very loving and composed individual. She plays with my 2yo nephew, rides my mom’s shoulders around the house, and can commonly be found curled up on my dad’s belly as he naps in his favorite recliner. She greets guests at the door and sasses the dogs. She plays in the sink and murders whatever large insects and arachnids find their way into her stomping ground.
Here is living proof you can keep a previously outdoor-only cat indoors and have it still be happy and healthy. My Saffy now prefers the indoors, where she is safe and warm and cared for, to the outside where she was raised. It can be done.
Very Important mcnamawyer/veronamara headcanons that minna franklinshepard and i have been discussing
they start dating a few weeks after the whole incident with jd
veronica invites heather to watch the movie with her and martha because she wants to keep an eye on her
after that they just start spending more and more time with each other (bc heather is a natural follower and needs someone)
they help each other out, heather helps calm veronica when things get bad (even if she doesn’t know what really happened, she is always there when veronica needs it) and veronica makes heather feel better when she feels like she’s drowning
they have many movie nights and heather always ends up cuddling veronica bc she is a Cuddle Bug
one of their movie nights they end up kissing each other (its really sweet and gentle and shy) and after that it’s history
veronica is always the big spoon bc heather is so tiny
heather tries being the big spoon but it just doesn’t work and her face ends up in veronica’s shoulder blades and they laugh about it
veronica always teases heather about how short and tiny she is and is always picking her up and swinging her off her feet. heather pretends to hate it but she actually really loves it
no one realizes they’re dating for a while, they’ve been affectionate friends even before then and have been holding hands in the halls as just friends so there isn’t much transition
veronica tells her parents when they start referring to her as “your very close friend heather" and veronica’s just like “we’re girlfriends.” and her parents are totally cool w/ whatever makes veronica happy so they’re just like “oh okay dear”
heather’s parents are a different story, they’ve never really been fond of veronica bc she’s so weird and she’s from the poorer side of town and is like ten feet tall and laughs really loudly for ten minutes at every funny thing heather says
for a while they’re like “i’m sure there are some nice boys around honey” and heather is just like “but I like veronica” and eventually they get over it bc they do want their daughter happy
veronica goes to football games to watch heather cheer, she always brings hUGE signs with lots of hearts and heather always picks her out in the crowd. she gives 0 fucks about the actual football game and screams only whenever heather does something and heather blows kisses from across the field
one day after a football game someone comes up to heather and asks “why is veronica sawyer so obsessed with you?” and heather just looks them dead in the eye and says “we’re dating” and it seems like within the hour the entire school knows but it’s like totally whatever because everyone is still kind of terrified of veronica after everything that happened
heather duke makes fun of them for dating but veronica just tells her to shut up and kisses heather mac in front of her
they become the power couple of the school and a lot of people think they’re super cute. they sit at lunch with their arms draped over each other with 0 fucks to give
heather drags veronica around shopping which isnt veronica’s thing but she goes for her gf. veronica wanders off and comes back with stuff from the kids section and says it would fit better bc she’s always teasing heather for being so tiny
when they watch horror movies heather spends most of the movie with her face buried into veronica’s neck
heather makes veronica watch all of the rom coms and she always tears up and gets the sniffles bc “it’s so romantic” while veronica’s scoffing at the cheesiness and how all the movies are about heterosexuals
heather doesn’t talk about it but she constantly thinks about how veronica could dEFINITELY pick her up at their wedding and carry her bridal style
veronica buys an engagement ring for heather from her own parents
she goes in there and is like “i’d like to buy an engagement ring. can you bless me? i mean. can i have your blessing to buy an engagement ring? for your child. your child heather, that child. your daughter. i want to buy an engagement ring to give to yoUR DAUGHTER. I want to marry your daughter please” and she is extremely flustered
she has to make sure her parents dont tell heather (when heather has been worrying to her parents that veronica didnt want to marry her and would nEVER propose)
and heather’s parents get so excited and they’re like showing her the most expensive rings bc they want a nice one for their daughter and veronica’s getting visibly more and more uncomfortable as the prices go higher
they’re like “what’s wrong dear” and she just gets really flustered and is like “these aren’t really…. in my price range”
heather’s parents offer to pay but veronica is super stubborn and insists on paying herself so she gets a beautiful and simple ring but heather’s parents still give her a “friends and family discount"
when she proposes she makes sure it’s romantic bc heather is such a hopeless romantic but it’s also simple and perfect and heather nearly faints
and heather like gets so excited that she like makes out with veronica for a minute after pulling her to her feet (bc she made sure to get on one knee) and then immediately starts planning like “it should be a spring wedding. who will we invite?! OH MAN I HAVE TO CALL MY MOM” but she totes forgets to actually say yes and veronica just stops her and is asks “so that’s a yes then?” and she’s all teary and happy and heather is like “oF COURSE YES. I’VE BEEN PLANNING OUR WEDDING IN MY HEAD FOR YEARS. I THOUGHT YOU WOULD NEVER PROPOSE”
and heather keeps going on and on about the wedding and how she’s been looking at wedding dresses for aGES and veronica’s like "oh i’d love to see them” and heather gasps and says no bc they’re not allowed to see each other’s wedding dresses (potential or not) until the day of and veronica goes “i thought i just wasnt allowed to see you in it?” and heather just hushes her and says it will be a surprise
veronica is totally noT allowed to help with wedding planning also bc she’ll just be like “I don’t know I wanted something small and simple?” and heather is like “no shh babe you don’t get it I’ve dreamt about my wedding since I was like six years old”
they both cry when they first see each other at the wedding, heather is all teary walking down the isle just from seeing veronica on the other end
they write their own vows and in heather’s she says “with you, i am a gameshow host” and at the end she really quietly goes “thanks for coming after me”
okay but can we talk about how jack choosing cas to be his father is entirely in the ‘family don’t end in blood, but it doesn’t start there either’ style and i am so happy that whatever happens to this bloody show, that idea somehow always stays
(more like yesterday in Japan, to be fair) there was a Little Witch
Academia-themed talk show event with director Yoshinari, character
designer Handa and producers Otsuka and Tsusumi. Pictured are the
shikishis they gave as prizes. Here are some of the things they talked
other tips for new cat owners / people who may get cats soon:
no, getting a grown cat won’t be boring / less cute! they’ll become just as attached to you as a kitten. get a cat that speaks to you (literally or figuratively, maybe you want a cat that’s chatty). older cats will be so appreciative to have a home. people get rid of their cats for all kinds of unfair reasons. just the ones i’ve seen on the craigslist listings in the last 5 minutes: “i am just more of a dog person (7mo old kitten)”, “we hoped she would get over her kittenish behavior, she has not (2yr old cat)”, “i need to get rid of my cat before my baby is born (3yr old cat)”. you can totally pick up a beautiful, loving, grown up kitty who will be needing some comfort after getting dumped. just look at this girl.
(taken off craigslist) she would be more than happy to live her cat life with you. is she not cute? she is. she is cute. so, ultimately, adopt whatever cat you like, but don’t rule out older cats!
nextly: no no, do NOT declaw your cat. DON’T DO IT. I’M TELLIN YA. it’s a deeply painful procedure, actually removing the entire first knuckle, not JUST the nail. it causes long-term and potentially permanent pain in the cat, and can lead to nasty infections, behavioral problems, and helplessness if they ever find themselves outside and in need of protection or climbing abilities. “but i don’t want my cat to scratch me / my kid / my furniture!” okay, i feel you, but there are other, cheaper, less inhumane options. my favorite of which are claw caps.
you gently press on your cat’s foot (to unsheath their claws), and place the soft cap onto their claw using the glue that’s included in any soft paw kit you get. it might take some getting used to on the cat’s part, but it should under no circumstances be painful, and when the kitty’s claws grow, the cap just kinda falls off, and you’ll put another one on. you can also file or clip their nails down! if you’re too nervous or clumsy to do it, your vet will usually do it for a small fee, or a groomer can take care of it. Personally, I just let my cats’ claws hang out and accept the pokes when they knead on me, since i don’t have any little babies or expensive upholstery in my home.
No, cats ain’t “low maintenance”. This is a living, social creature, not a chiapet. Especially if you’re raising them from kittenhood, they need a lot of attention and resources. cuddles, playtime, training, health care, feeding, cleaning up their facilities. you get a pet to interact with, not to buy and leave it be! a cat that you don’t socialize is going to be very moody and sad. get a pet if you plan to invest the time and energy they need- if not, maybe we can come back to that cactus idea?
Cats need meat. I repeat, cats cannot survive without meat. Dogs need meat too- but cats are incapable of creating taurine in their own, and where do you find taurine? meat! hallelujah!! Feeding cats a vegan or vegetarian diet is a slow form of starvation and animal abuse. If you’re not comfortable feeding an animal meat, please do not adopt a carnivore. There are plenty of vegetarian mammals that you would be much better suited owning, but do not abuse your cats just because of your own feelings about protein. Without enough taurine in a cat’s diet, severe health problems will follow, like blindness, weak and decaying teeth, weak heart, and digestive issues. This is terrible. This objectively sucks. So pretty please give your cat a proper diet!
It’s way way safer to have an indoor cat. I don’t need you to tell me that you want your cat to be with you for many years, ‘cause I already know you do. Outdoor cats are exposed to wild animals, animal abusers, poisonous substances, cars, harsh weather, kidnapping, and diseases. Cats like rolling around in grass and grabbing birds from trees, and that’s great, but having an outdoor cat makes for a steep decrease in their estimated lifespan. The average lifespan of an indoor cat is 16.8 years, whereas outdoor cats average out to a hard-hitting 5.6. Ouch. So it’s definitely safer to keep a cat indoors! If you’re adopting a young kitten, it won’t be hard, since they won’t be expecting outdoor time already. If you’re still really into that whole grass idea, you should totally grow some indoor grass for your cat to chill in.
that’s everything i can think of for the moment, but please don’t be afraid to do your own research on animal care. there are tons of resources out there, and if you have a good vet, they’ll answer any questions you have!
thank you for readin’ about cat care. as a reward, i’m adding a picture of toby as a baby. enjoy.
[ i think i understand what you mean, if im wrong then i am incredibly sorry for being illiterate lol hope you enjoy no less :) ]
Jin was a bit confused when he came home to a quiet, and empty house. Usually when he announced his arrival, it would soon be followed by the pitter-patter of feet rushing to greet him with excitement. Calling out for his wife and child, Jin was once again given silence. Scrunching his eyebrows in concern, he took a moment to review if you had anything scheduled for today - soon concluding that you were staying home. At least, that’s what he thought.
It didn’t take but five minutes for the front door to be opened once again, entering the two missing people he’d been thinking about since he walked in. Sighing in relief that the mystery was over, he turned toward the two of you with a smile - only for it to slowly disappear when he saw the look on your face. You were, unfortunately, giving him your best bitch face.
“Is something wrong?” He finally voiced, the sniffling child in your arms making his heart clench. “Did something happen?”
Slowly, you put down the child and sweetly instructed them to get ready for bed, that you would tuck them in, shortly. Nodding that they understood, they quickly ran for their room, not even giving Jin a passing glance. This only made his heart clench even more. Looking back at you for some sort of explanation, Jin’s obliviousness only pissed you off even more.
“What is today, Seokjin?” He stayed silent, making you sigh heavily. “Why don’t you go take a look on the calendar, and then come ask me what happened.”
With that being said, you headed for your child’s bedroom without another word, once again leaving Jin by himself. Scratching his head in even more bewilderment, Jin did as you had asked and made his way for the kitchen.
Saturday, November 18th. What was so special about that day?
And, that’s when it hit him. Jin felt like the world’s worst dad in that very moment, when all he could do was blink at the date, dumbfounded that he forgot in the first place. He missed his child’s first soccer game. Not only was he wrong about you staying home all day, but the fact he even remembers saying to them this morning that he wouldn’t miss it for the world. He practically lied right to his child’s face. It wasn’t his fault that it slipped his mind, there was just a lot going on at the office, but Jin didn’t see that as a good excuse.
Judging from the chocolate stains on their cheeks, he concluded that you two had just gotten back from eating victory ice cream - which could only mean that they won their game. Which could only mean Jin had a lot of apologizing to do.
He could only hope that his child, and yourself, could forgive him.
Yoongi sat outside his daughter’s bedroom door in shame, it physically hurting him to hear her cry her eyes out, and he couldn’t do anything about it; probably because he was the cause of them in the first place.
“Sweetheart, I am so, so very sorry. They held me in the studio longer than I anticipated, you know I would never do this to you on purpos-”
“Just leave me alone!” She immediately cut him off from his apology, her cries getting worse by the second. “I looked like a fool, I should have known you’d always put your music before me, no matter what!”
That, to Yoongi, felt like a kick to the stomach. Never in his life did he think that his music was more important than his family, it never once crossed his mind. But, after tonight, he couldn’t possibly blame his daughter for feeling that way. That night was the annual sixth grade ‘Father-Daughter Dance’ at her school, which she was so excited for-for the past two months. Everyone’s father showed up; give you one guess on who ended up having to go home early due to embarrassment of not having their date show up.
You practically chewed Yoongi out over the phone, saying how it took three bags of family sized m&ms to get her to calm down enough to remember to breathe. The both of you were livid, but your daughter felt neglected. And that was the last thing Yoongi ever wanted her to feel.
“Mi Sun, that’s not true…you know that’s not true. My music can never compare to you, how happy you make me everyday, the joy that you bring. Sweetheart, daddy is so sorry that he stood you up, I’ll make it up to you somehow, I promise. But, just know that you will always mean more to me than my music, no doubt about it.” There was silence on the other side of the door, which wasn’t entirely a bad thing, it just meant she stopped crying. “Tell you what: I won’t go to the studio all week, next week. You’ll have me all to yourself, we can do whatever you want, it’ll be a little ‘Father-Daughter’ outing. What do you say, princess?”
Yoongi waited with high hopes, ear pressed against the door as he prayed that she would at least consider his offer. It wasn’t until the sound of her door being unlocked relieved him of any thought of rejection, soon greeted with a gummy smile that matched his own. “You mean it?”
Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out his phone all the while picking up his little girl with his free arm, dialing Namjoon’s number without hesitation. Putting said person on speaker phone, he spoke.
“Namjoon, I’m taking all of next week off. I think it’s time I gave my greatest creation of all time my full and undivided attention. Goodbye.”
Your two children practically cursed Kim Namjoon’s existence, they were so mad. Not only did he run over one of their bike’s that morning, but now he had just broken their game counsel they had gotten from their uncle Jungkook, by stepping on it by accident; they were enraged.
He had promised them dessert after dinner to kind of set the atmosphere back into a lighter one, only for them to just eat it angrily as they continued to glare in their father’s direction. You tried so hard not to burst into a fit of laughter at Namjoon’s failed attempts to get back on their good side. Who could have thought that two seven year old boys could have a grown man begging on his knees for forgiveness?
“Please, what do you want from me? I said I was sorry, what more do you want? I told you countless times to never leave your bikes in the driveway, or to leave your game counsel lying around - so it’s technically not all my fault!”
They continued to be silent as they ate their desserts, their expressions never faltering. Finally letting out a small snicker, you speak.
“I don’t think you’re helping your situation here, Joonie.”
“I already gave them ice cream, what else do they want - my soul?” He exclaimed, losing all hope at this point. Namjoon didn’t like when his children were mad at him, it was one of the worst feelings in the world. He tried his best to be a good father and loving husband, and a small inconvenience like this just wasn’t sitting right. “I’ll buy you new bikes! And an even better game counsel, if you want, I don’t care. I will personally give you my wallet, if it’ll get you to stop-”
“Okay.” Hyun replied, while his brother nodded with enthusiasm. “And we want those diamond earrings that mom saw at the store a couple days ago, too!”
“And a puppy!” Jae was quick to add in, finishing up the last of his ice cream. Namjoon looked at the two boys with wide eyes and mouth agape. When Hyun’s statement finally registered in his brain, Namjoon slowly started to glare at you.
“You set this up, just so you could get those stupid earrings, didn’t you?”
Shrugging your shoulders, an evil grin slowly started to form on your face as you get up to retrieve his wallet. “Hey, I’m not the one who asked for them, the boys did. Too late to go back on your word now, Joonie.”
Shaking his head as you left the kitchen, Namjoon couldn’t help but chuckle as the two boys started poking at his face - back to their normal, goofy selves.
“You two, and your mother, will be the death of me.”
He was devastated when he showed up to the school an hour late, and his little girl was no where to be seen. Hoseok frantically asked the teacher where she could’ve gone, only for him to get a look that could only be described as judgmental. What kind of father didn’t know where his own child was?
“There was a swarm of men that ran at your daughter with cameras, they chased her back into the school. She was the last student to be picked up, and they wouldn’t leave, so we called your wife. She tried your phone, Mr. Jung, but you wouldn’t answer. She is safe at home, by now.”
A small breath of relief fell from his lips as he thanked the teacher, and apologized for the inconvenience with the paparazzi. She merely responds with ‘I’m not the one you should be apologizing to.’ She couldn’t have been more right.
As if on cue, his phone starts to vibrate in his pocket, after hours of having it shut off. Hoseok visibly winces at the sight on his lock screen: 37 text messages, followed by 52 missed calls. He was definitely screwed.
Now, he found himself parked in the driveway, mentally preparing himself on how he planned on apologizing for leaving his daughter all alone in that kind of situation. She must have been so frightened, and just thinking about it made him feel even worse.
Once he entered the house, he becomes uneasy at the silence that he’s greeted with - it making him feel like the smallest person in the world. When he made his way into the family room, there you sat in the rocking chair he had bought, for the pregnancy with your second child. The look on your face was enough to show that you were far from being happy, but your features quickly softened when you saw how wreaked his face looked. You could tell that he had been crying out of guilt, the teddy bear he had obviously bought for your daughter confirming that as well.
“H..How is she?” He rasps, throat tight as the guilt continued to weigh on his shoulders. You shrug slightly, before taking a deep breath.
“Could’ve been worse, I suppose. She’s a little shaken up, but nothing physically wrong with her, thank god.” Carefully, you stand from the rocking chair, one hand resting on your bloated stomach. “Hobi…what happened, where were you? I’ve been trying to get a hold of you for the past hour.”
“I-I lost track of time, the clock in my office was an hour late. My phone had to be switched off, because I was in and out of meetings all day - I didn’t mean to forget. I-I rushed as fast as I could to the school, and when I didn’t see her, I panicked, I thought something bad had happened. And then, I had to find out from the teacher that the paparazzi went after her-why would they do that?! She’s only a little girl, they’d never go as far as ambushing a child! This is all my fault, she’s was scared and alone, I wasn’t there, and now she probably hates me!”
“Hobi…” You tried to calm him down, the tears from earlier making their appearance once again as they cascaded down his cheeks, like a river; but he just kept going.
“What kind of father am I? I even had to make you leave the comfort of bed-rest just so you could go pick her up, when it was my job to do so-I’m just so stupid! I don’t know what I’d do if they had laid a single hand on either one of you, it makes me sick! Doesn’t anyone understand privacy anymore? This isn’t the kind of life I wanted for you, or for our children. I want you to feel safe, and healthy and protected - I can’t even do that right!”
“Hoseok, enough.” You raised both hands to cup either side of his face, making him focus on you. Your thumbs gently wiped away the stray tears, softly cooing at him to breathe and just to relax. “You are an amazing father, who works very hard for his family everyday. Sure, I was a little angry at how careless you were in the situation, but you’re human. You make mistakes, too. She won’t hate you, she never could, she loves her daddy far too much. Like I said, she was just a little frazzled, nothing serious. As for the paparazzi, we’ll get restraining orders - simple as that. Now, no more of this negative talk. Your princess needs her hope, her angel, to cheer her up.”
By now, his tears had come to a stop, a small smile taking their place. Leaning forward to give you a sweet kiss, Hoseok felt so lucky to have someone like you to remind him that he was loved and appreciated. Even though deep down he still felt awful about the whole thing, it was nothing a good, long cuddle session with her brand new teddy bear couldn’t fix.
I feel like Jimin would be very offended that you hadn’t brought him any treats back, sitting on the couch with an expression of pure betrayal as he watched his child munch away on yummy candies.
“So tell me again, why you told mommy not to bring daddy anything back? Did daddy do something wrong?” The child nods their head, pouting. “He did? Mind telling me what exactly he did to make you so upset?”
This time the toddler shook their head ‘no’, going back to stuffing their face with sweets and watching cartoons. After ten minutes of pleading for some sort of clue, Jimin finally gives up and goes to ask you what the problem is. But, unfortunately, you had no clue either.
“They’ve just been grumpy all day, and when I offered a trip to the candy shop, that seemed to do the trick. I was going to bring you something back, but they insisted that I shouldn’t.”
“And you listened?” He gaped. “Jagiiiii.”
“Look, all I know is that you did something to piss off our three year old child, and I don’t exactly know how. So, you’re on your own. Think, Chim, did something happen this morning?”
Retracing his steps on how the morning played out, Jimin couldn’t decipher anything that might have been out of the ordinary. He woke up, got dressed, came down stairs, ate breakfast - he remembers that he was running a little late for work, so he had to skip on the goodbye kis-
“Ohhhhh.” Jimin finally connected to the problem, giggling at how trivial this whole thing turned out to be. “I know what the deal is.”
Without even enlightening you as to what he just realized, Jimin made his way back into the living room and sat right in his spot next to the toddler. Leaning downward to plant a small kiss on their forehead, he exclaims at full volume.
“Goodbye, my little mochi, daddy loves you~!”
You tilted your head in confusion for a moment until you, too, realized what had made your child so salty all day: Jimin never gave them their usual goodbye kiss before he left for work. Immediately, as if someone had flipped a switch, your child offered a handful of candies to their daddy, him happily taking the sweets with a wide grin.
“Remind me never to forget goodbye kisses, ever again.”
He despised being the bad cop when it came to punishing his son. Taehyung was usually the fun parent, always sneaking snacks at night and promising never to tell you, that kind of parent. But, when the foot had to come down, it came down hard. During dinner, his son was starting to get a little smart mouthy toward you, and Taehyung was not having it. He had warned him to cool it, but he just didn’t know when to quit.
“That’s it, I’ve warned you to stop running your mouth! Go to your room, you’re grounded for a month - matter of fact, make it two months for bad mouthing your mother!”
This seemed to set him off even more, as he aggressively pushed away from the table to stand, pointing a spiteful finger in your direction. “She is not my mother. She’s just some skank you picked up at some club, and decided she was good enough to keep around-”
“That’s crossing the line! Four months! Say one more goddamn thing, and it’ll be a year - do you understand me?!”
“You’re always picking her side over mine! Ever since she moved in with us, you’ve changed - she’s changing you! I don’t even know who you are anymore, no wonder mom left you! She’s gone because of you, and I hate you!”
With that being said, he finally stormed off. The dining room was left eerily silent, as the only thing that was heard was the sound of him slamming his bedroom door shut. You looked over at Taehyung, seeing that his face remained blank, but you didn’t miss the single tear that slid down his cheek.
You knew that his ex-wife was a touchy subject between the two of them, and that whole argument definitely opened up old wounds. You raised from your seat, slowly walking over to where he continued to remain motionless as the tears just kept on falling. Leaning in close, you place a small kiss on his slightly damp cheek, easing a little tension out of his shoulder for moment.
“He didn’t mean it, Taehyung. Don’t take what he said to heart, he’s just frustrated. Give him some time, and he’ll come around. I’ll talk to him.” Giving him one more kiss, you exited the dining room and toward his son’s.
Taehyung still continued to sit there as he leaned his face into his hands, now silently crying to himself. You were amazing, trying your very hardest to be a good step-mother…why couldn’t he give you a chance?

Tae didn’t even realize that he passed out in the dining room, from possibly crying himself to sleep. He woke up to the sound of the front door being slammed shut, and a couple of hushed whispers. When his eyes adjusted, he noticed two silhouettes coming toward him, only to then discover that it was you and his son, carrying what looked to be bowls of frozen yogurt.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you.” You giggled, walking up to him to wipe some drool off the side of his face. “Are you okay?”
Blinking a couple of times, he directs his attention to his son, seeing that he was still picking at his frozen treat while purposely avoiding eye contact. It stayed that way for a good two minutes until you decided to speak for them.
“Dae-Jung, isn’t there something you’d like to say to your father?” The preteen sighs heavily, setting his now empty cup of froyo on the table. Shuffling his feet from side to side, he finally nods.
“I..I’m sorry, dad. I didn’t mean those things that I said, I was just…angry, I guess. It’s just…mom hasn’t been returning my calls lately, and you’ve been spending less time with me, and more time nagging me. I miss how things used to be, when you were my best friend, rather than this stick-in-the-mud. I apologized to Y/n…she’s actually really cool…I guess I kinda get what you see in her…so there. I don’t hate you, and I’m glad you’re here, and I’m sorry that I-”
Taehyung didn’t even let the boy finish rambling as he pulled him into a tight hug, making sure to squeeze the life out of him to reassure himself that he was still there.
“I’m sorry I’ve been so hard on you, Dae-Jung, I just don’t want you growing up and seeing me as a pushover. I can’t have you walking all over me like you mother did. And I’m glad you’re giving Y/n a chance, you’ll love her, I promise.” He beams at you, grateful to have someone like yourself in his child’s life, and his own. “But, you’re still grounded.”
“What? WHY?” He exclaims, trying to pull away from the hug, but Taehyung wouldn’t let him as he hugged even tighter.
“Because, you didn’t bring me back any frozen yogurt.~”
You had just gotten back from grocery shopping, with your little plus one ‘helping’ you carry the bags inside. After getting everything situated and put away, you set her in her little high chair, so she could enjoy the little treats you had bought for her - for being a good little helper. Soon, your husband walked in, hugging you from behind followed by a small peck to your cheek.
“Hello, gorgeous.~ And hello to you, my little bunny, where’s my kiss~?” Right as he went to give his princess a kiss on the cheek as well, she immediately screamed and blocked her treats from his sight. Taking a step back in shock, he tilts his head in confusion at his baby girl.
You chuckle softly, leaning over the counter. “Looks like somebody isn’t happy with you.”
“What have I done?” He tried again to get a kiss, only for her to scream once more, halting his movement. “What’s the matter, precious? Why can’t daddy have a kiss?”
“No!” She chirps, shaking her head. “My kisses!”
“I can’t have just one?” She shakes her head once again. “Why not?”
Jungkook, now in a dilemma, places his hands on his hips. It wasn’t until he noticed the empty bag of Hershey kisses that laid right next to her, did he finally realize the miscommunication.
“Ah, no, I want an actual kiss! Not your candy, silly girl.” He giggles before puckering his lips, leaning downward until he was at her level. “Like this! Remember? You love daddy’s kisses!”
The little one took a moment to register what he just said, until her eyes focused in on his puckered lips, blinking at them a couple of times. When it eventually clicked, she leaned forward as well until her forehead rested on his lips - allowing him to just go nuts with the tiny kisses to her head; the large amount of affection from her daddy was enough to make her giggle happily, enjoying the shower of kisses he continued to give her.
The sight alone was enough to make your heart melt, Jungkook could be such a softball when it came to his little gir-
“Jungkook, you ass, I literally just saw you swipe some candy-”
