not been the the circus in years

Hey! I don't know whether this has been asked before but do you have prompts about the circus! Specifically, a magical circus. Thank you! ❤

1) The protagonist met the acrobat once every leap year, faithfully on that forgotten day when the circus too entered the world for twenty four hours. Sometimes, they asked what would happen if they stayed together when the circus disappeared, asked what the circus did all those other days, but there was never an answer to be had and the acrobat begged them not to ask. But those twenty four hours were everything.

2) “I’m going to expose you,” they warned the illusionist, words hissed through gritted teeth. “That’s not sleight of hand - that’s witchcraft. Devil’s work!”
“If it was,” the illusionist replied, “I’m surprised you’d make threats against someone who could make you disappear. Seems pretty foolish.”
“Is that - you can’t -” they drew themselves up stiffly.
“I’m just saying,” the illusionist smiled. “I hope you enjoyed the show.”

3) “Perhaps,” the ringmaster offered the protagonist a smile and a hand to help them up, “you would like to join us?”
“I can’t do anything. I’m not that special. You’re all so - so amazing.” The protagonist felt more silly than ever with their tears and their tatters compared to the circus’s glitter and shine. It’s elegance, it’s magic.
“My dear child, nobody is without worth here. No matter what they told you.”

Athens

Tomorrow I’m flying to Athens, Greece for a week of intensive aerial training for our September aerial camp (we go abroad ~twice per year). I’m so excited, we’re training at Aerial Ever After located in the Athens Olympic Stadium and the height and facilities look amazing! Also looking forward to a bit of sun (it’s been mid 30s Celsius there) because being from Scotland we don’t know what the sun looks like… Hopefully I will learn a lot and have plenty to update after the camp as well. Also 6 days will be the longest holiday I’ve had in about 10 years - go me!

Braved D.W. to listen to Niall on the podcast.

– Initially he told the producer he wanted to pull back on ‘Slow Hands’ because he thought it was getting too wild/funky. The song is ‘a sexy one’ with a 70s/80s vibe. Has a big riff/electronic guitar moment. Niall said it basically took on a life’s of its own.

–Album is 50/50 split between uptempo and more stripped/guitar driven.

– Regarding the new label, wanted a fresh start and to see a different side of the industry. He has freedom to work at his pace, but he also has great support/backing in large numbers. Having a lot of fun.

– Anticipates all the guys will tour their solo music and that it will take about a year. No timestamp on 1D reunion. When the call comes, he will be there.

– Niall leaves it open that One Direction could possibly reunite as a trio after Dan wonders “what if one member decides not to return”. Says no one has discussed anything / no specific plans have been made. It’s too soon.

– Regarding Zayn rejoining the group, Niall said “the fans would love it” but reiterates that these conversations are just too premature.

– Group did not want to make Louis’ X Factor performance a media circus given the circumstances. Would have been cringy with pictures/PR. Kept things private. Highly emotional obviously. Said Louis was incredible. *sniff*

– SOTT is “very Harry”. He was listening to it before the podcast. Said Harry was genius on SNL. Very funny. His Jagger imitation was brilliant.

– The guys are still connected/try to stay updated with everyone’s moves and new music. Lives by Louis, has presents all picked out for Liam’s son and will probably see Harry record for James’ show.

– Unbelievable to watch James’ ascent on the Late Late show. Same with Ben. Going to the show feels like home. He gets his haircut there, lol.

– Not on Tinder. Online dating not for him. Usually gets set up / bumps into ppl at bars. Can be quite shy with the “odd butterflies”.

– Promo through May/June/July. Eager to get back to work. Got all the time off he wanted.

– James Blunt is favorite Twitter profile. Thinks Arianna Grande is genius on Snapchat with fans. Golf channel favorite TV. Traffic app is his fave. “oh God I live such an exciting life..golf and traffic.” lol

I was explaining the Batfam to someone, breaking down the characters, laying out the main timeline, blah blah blah, and I mentioned how “Dick Grayson was eight when Bruce took him in after his parents were killed,” and this guy scoffs and goes: “You don’t know what you’re taking about. Dick was twelve. Girl’s need to stop acting like they know comics.”

I grabbed my phone and shoved this in his face from the Wikia page:

“Dick Grayson was an eight-year-old circus acrobat, the youngest of a family act called The Flying Graysons of The Haly Circus . Dick joined the act at a very young age, having been trained in acrobatics from birth. Before one appearance in Gotham City, in which The Flying Graysons were the main attraction, they were asked to pose for a photo opportunity with Jack Drake and his family, including their young son, Tim Drake. From that time on Tim’s one and only hero in the world was Dick.

While on tour in Gotham City, he overheard "Boss” Tony Zucco, a well-known and feared crime lord, threaten the performers unless the circus’s owner paid protection money. The owner refused, and that night Dick watched in horror as his parents’ high wire snapped, sending his parents hurtling to their deaths, all while many of Gotham’s elite watched on. Young Dick felt responsible, because he failed to warn his parents in time.“

The guy got really mad and was like: "but in the cartoon-!”

“He was also eight when Bruce took him in. Fight me, you ass.”

He turned really red and I was like: “Yeah, which one of us needs to stop acting like they know comics?”

And he walked away.

Don’t you dare try to tell me I don’t know something about my ALL TIME FAVORITE CHARACTER simply because I’m a freaking girl.

Derek has a new neighbor who won’t stop looking.

Excerpt:

“You’re blind,” Derek said flatly, the anger draining from him so suddenly he felt almost woozy. His vision cleared, his claws sliding back into blunt fingernails.

“Thanks for the memo, genius,” the kid said acidly. “I can still fucking defend myself, so don’t take another damn step.”

“Fuck, I…I’m sorry,” Derek stuttered.

“What?!” The kid’s brow crinkled. “I mean — what?! You’re fucking sorry!?” His lips thinned into a harsh line. “What, is this some kinda Hallmark movie where you’re discovering the error of your ways because you don’t want to rob a blind person?! That’s fucking condescending, man. I’ll have you know that —”

“Just, wait.” Derek interrupted what was apparently the start of a convincing argument as to why he should rob the kid after all, feeling his head start to spin. “This is — it’s a misunderstanding. I’m — I’m not robbing you. You’re — you’re safe, okay? I’m taking three steps back. Just — just let me explain.”

“Explain why you came busting into my apartment? Yeah, go right ahead, man, I can’t wait to hear this epic tale.”

The story of how Stiles and Derek fall in love and became heroes - to each other

Numbers by standinginanicedress (1/1 | 11,150 | PG13)

“I’m magic,” Stiles raises his hands in the air and puts on a serious facial expression. “I have the sixth sense.”

“The sixth sense, huh? Is that what they’re calling bullshit these days?”

Stiles’ lips purse down hard, but he still smirks. Derek wonders if there’s any single facial expression that Stiles can make that isn’t in some way at least slightly amused, whether at himself or the expense of others. “Non-believers aren’t welcome at my table, Derek.”

It’s Too Early For This by thepsychicclam (1/1 | 4,966 | PG13)

Derek loves his job at the coffee shop, especially because Stiles comes in for coffee before early Saturday morning lacrosse practices. The problem is that Derek is too shy to do anything about his crush, and the situation is not helped by the rivalry between the basketball and lacrosse teams.

Hale Construction by Mynuet (1/1 | 8,342 | G)

Derek gets a business and a home. Stiles gets his own Batman. The sheriff gets hash browns. The Stilinski household is expanded without anyone quite talking about it.

A’s:

A Heart is a Heavy Burden by lielabell (13/13 | 41,242 | PG13)

In Which Stiles: is accosted by unhappy witches, becomes friends with fire demons, is rescued by darkly handsome wizards, discovers hidden inner depths, is introduced to princes, and finds true love. Though not necessarily in that order.

(Or the Howl’s Moving Castle AU fusion fic you never knew you wanted but are delighted to have.)

French Silk Pie, Baby by KuriKuri (1/1 | 2,649 | PG13)

“See, your angel of a sister - ” Derek scoffs. Cora hasn’t been an angel since she was five months old. “ - agreed to date me, because my visa is about to expire and - ”

“I’d have to marry you for that, dumbass,” Cora butts in, rolling her eyes.

“Are you saying you wouldn’t marry me to keep me in the country?” Stiles asks, sounding mildly offended.

“Hell no,” Cora snorts, earning her a wounded look from Stiles.

Twice in a Lifetime (AKA The Importance of Snuggle Buddies) by normalcatbehaviour (1/1 | 1,761 | G)

It takes him a while to actually notice it’s not just Stiles sprawled across their couch, but to be fair to him, he isn’t really thinking about anything but finally getting some sleep and maybe liberating one of the cookies that Stiles thinks are well hidden behind the microwave. He’s half way to covering the boys up with a blanket when he finally notices.

That is definitely not Scott McCall.

It is in fact definitely Derek Hale. Derek Hale the 26 year old. Who his son is currently lying on, head tucked under Derek’s chin, Derek’s hands clenched in the back of his t-shirt.

“Um,” the Sheriff says. He wasn’t prepared for this.

tongue of dog and blind-worm’s sting by Zercalo (7/7 | 51,909 | NC17)

In order to keep the identity of the teacher he’s been seeing a secret, Derek’s been withdrawing from his pack and family. Cora, frustrated with his alienation and a little lonely, clings to the first nonjudgmental person who offers companionship – which happens to be that odd Muggleborn Revenclaw who’s always hanging around the Gryffindor common room.

She hasn’t befriended Stiles for Derek’s sake, but Derek just might reap the benefits anyway - if he pulls his head out of his ass and quit the stupid self-sacrificing act.

No Homo by RemainNameless (11/11 | 84,064 | NC17)

Stiles’ sophomore year starts something like this:
3 FourLokos
+ 1 peer-pressuring cat
- 1 best bro to end all best bros
= 1 Craigslist ad headline that reads “str8 dude - m4m - strictly platonic”.
Derek is the fool who replies.

Kass’:

Filter Out the Starlight by skoosiepants (1/1 | 12,238 | PG13)

“Why are you not more curious about me?” Stiles says when Derek’s got the door half open, sun spilling over the dark wood, dust motes spinning about his legs. Stiles is wearing fabric that hasn’t been invented yet, he’s clutching a smart phone to his chest, and he appeared out of nowhere, like an angel.

Softly, Derek says, “We all have our secrets,” and closes the door.

Or-

A heartbroken Stiles accidentally travels back in time to find his one true love. A harlequin-ish Christmas romance.

Regression to the Mean by theroguesgambit (1/1 | 16,546 | R)

There aren’t really words for this. “Sure, dude. Let’s hang out sometime and bond over the fact that our lives suck and we’ve both basically killed a bunch of people by accident” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

Prompt: In the aftermath of 3B, Stiles and Derek learn to trust, learn to fuck, and learn to love themselves, each other, and their pack.

I Breathe Disaster by TamzStripped (12/12 | 84,946 | NC17)

“No. I’m not doing it. You can’t make me, Scott.”

“Don’t be such a wuss. You don’t want to die, do you? This is the only way to keep you safe from the Alpha pack.”

“Why not Danny? He’s actually gay, kind of adorable, and doesn’t look at me like he wants to shut me up…with his teeth.” Stiles threw his arms out in front of him, Scott shook his head for the thousandth time. “Why not?”

or

How Stiles went from hating Derek, to wanting to cuddle him, to hating him again, to kissing his boo-boo’s, to waxing poetic, then finally laying his life on the line to save him. Funny how things turn out.

Don’t You Wanna Be My Sky? by WhoNatural (1/1 | 9,420 | G)

Stiles got ratted out by the Realm Guard for sneaking off with Scott a total of seven times before his dad buckled, promising sabbatical once Stiles reached Faehood, and enough Earth culture in the meantime to have him talking like a born-and-bred Californian teenager.

He just didn’t have the tan.

(Or, in which Stiles is a Frost Fae sent to the Earth Realm on the Fae version of Rumspringa and immediately falls head-first into a Coffee Shop AU)

Mauve by bleep0bleep (1/1 | 7,380 | NC17)

It’s been ten years since he’s seen Derek Hale, but Stiles would recognize that ass anywhere.

The Fixer and the First Son by ebjameston (10/10 | 47,625 | PG13)

“You want me to arrange a political marriage for your son?” Stiles repeats dumbly.

“It wouldn’t be the first time you’ve done this,” Talia Hale says, dark eyes twinkling over her impeccable blue pantsuit. “Senator Harvey and Elise’s match worked out perfectly, and they’re actually quite in love, from what I hear.”

“George Harvey was a little-known senatorial candidate from Kansas at the time, Madam President,” Stiles says slowly. “Your son – you, Mr. Hale,” he directs toward the man pacing tiny circles behind the president’s chair, “are the nation’s most eligible bachelor. Literally. I saw it on the cover of People.”

(Stiles is a political fixer. Derek is the president’s son. I’ve been watching too much Scandal.)

Part 1 of Stilinski & Associates

This is the worst organised robbery I’ve ever seen,” Derek comments as he begrudgingly does as he’s told.

“Nobody asked you,” Stiles huffs.

Home by TheTypewriterGirl (17/18 | 160,430 | PG13)

January seventh. Seven days since the start of 2015, and seven days since his father’s death.

The bastard, he thinks bitterly. The past year Derek Hale had made it blatantly obvious that he hated his scrawny guts, taking every given opportunity to shove him up against a wall, growl threats in his ears and roll his eyes whenever he stepped into the room, muttering some snide comment about how spastic or idiotic he was.

So why did he fucking volunteer to take him in?

Sowing Season by WeAreTheCyclones (28/? | 177,873 | R)

Part 3 of Play Crack the Sky

The Circus at the End of the World by mikkimouse (25/25 | 91,049 | NC17)

Three hundred years ago, the world ended not with a bang or a whimper, but with magic.

Since then, magic has been outlawed, and the world has clawed its way back to some kind of stability, with people and shifters alike divided between living within the walled safety of the Havens, or the small, less protected outposts dotting the frontier.

Derek Hale and his sisters, Laura and Cora, are the proprietors of Hale’s Circus of Magic, Monsters, and Mystical Wonders, known colloquially as the Circus at the End of the World. They and their ragtag pack ride the rails between the outposts and the Havens, performing for those who can pay (and some who can’t). Their circus is a small haven in and of itself, a place of safety for those who have nowhere else to go.

It’s a quiet life…until Stiles Stilinski joins the crew.

The circus has something Stiles needs—a ticket into the Haven of Santa Francesca. His father has been abducted, and Stiles is determined to get him back no matter what he has to do.

But Stiles has another secret, one that puts him and every member of the circus in danger. And if he’s not careful, it could get them all killed.

Bat Aunt: Part 8

Prompt: How Bruce Wayne’s life changes when a little sister is thrown into the mix

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7

“I’m sorry, I don’t think I heard you right, can you repeat that?”

    “I adopted another child.”

You close your eyes, brace yourself for the incoming headache, and let out a sigh, “That’s what I thought you said.” You plop down into your office chair. “I knew I shouldn’t have left you alone with Alfred. He’s always had a hard time saying no to you.”

You watch as Bruce rolls his eyes, “He’s a kid, not a puppy. He was lifting the tires off the Batmobile. He’s entirely too thin, and he’s living on the street.”

“How are he and Richard getting along?”

Bruce smiles, “You know Dick. He’s always been great with kids. And now that he’s splitting his time between Gotham and the Titans… well, it just makes sense.”

You log onto your computer, “Yeah. I saw the pictures of his new suit. Were the finger stripes his idea, or yours?”

Bruce lets out a laugh, “Dick was born to be in the center ring.”

    “What’s his name?”

“Jason. And I’m sure he would love to meet his wonderful Aunt Y/N.”

You smile, “Well, of course he would. I’m amazing. Now tell me, do you plan on having him take the Robin mantle?”

Bruce finally takes a seat, “He has what it takes, but I’m being cautious. The more training the better I think.”

You smile, “I can’t help but agree. I’ll stay at the Manor while I’m in town, and get to know my new nephew.”

Bruce leans back, “Does that mean, you might just knock off early?”

You lean forward, “What are you up to, Bruce Wayne?”

Your brother gives you an easy smile, “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

You roll your eyes, “You’ve been talking to Barry again, haven’t you?”

Bruce doesn’t even bother pretending, “He says you’ve been pulling a lot of late nights.”

    “No more than usual.”

He groans, “Wasn’t the entire idea behind you moving to Central City and moving in with Barry, actually living with him? Having a life outside of work?”

You shrug, and a moment of silence lapses between the two of you, “What’s going on, kid? Barry says you’ve been really distant lately. You’re pulling away from him, you barely return my calls, Dick says you’re answering emails with only one or two words, and you’re refusing Alfred’s face time.”

You run your tongue over your teeth, “Bruce, I have a lot to do. I’ll try and stop by tonight.”

Your brother scowls, “So, you’re going from staying at the Manor, to trying to stop by.” You don’t say anything, and he sighs, “Fine. I’ll talk to you later. If you pick up.” You wince as he walks out. You scrub your hands over your face before turning around to look at Gotham’s skyline.

You’d been living in Central City for two years now. You’d been happier than you’d ever been before. But slowly, you’d found yourself homesick. You missed the manor and your family, and any reminder of them made you resent Barry just a tad. You knew he couldn’t leave Central City… but you missed your home.

You get lost in the sight of your home. You watch as the daylight fades and the buildings slowly light up. You listen to the police sirens, and the faint sound of live music coming from the bars. Finally, the need to be on the streets overtakes you. You grab your coat and make your way out of the office.

You find yourself sitting on a park bench. You watch the people walk by. You can’t help but smile. You feel at peace for the first time in months. Knowing what you have to do, you begin your walk back to the office. You’re passing an alley when you hear it. The grunts and groans of someone being beat up.

It’s the flash of red that catches your eye. You turn and watch as the young boy searches through the pockets of the unconscious man on the street. You smile as you walk further down the alley, the click of your heels drawing his attention. “Now, I know my brother wouldn’t approve of this.”

The boys scowls at you, “And your brother would be?”

    “Your mentor. Jason Todd, right?”

His eyes go huge, and you motion with your head for him to follow you. He drops the wad of cash on top of the man’s chest before following you. You dig out a spare pair of clothes from the back of your car. One of Dick’s old outfits. He changes in the car while you wait outside.

When he knocks twice on the window, you slip into the driver’s seat. He says nothing as you drive to your destination. You smile as you pull to a stop, and he follows you in. It’s been months since you’ve been in, but you’re greeted like it’s only been a day. You go to your usual booth, and Jason slides in across from you.

You catch him staring at you, “If you have a question, I recommend asking it.”

“Why didn’t you take me home?”

“Because, I’m the cool aunt. That means bailing you out of bad situations and not telling my brother when you’re doing something stupid. That being said, you sneak out again, I’ll make sure you never make it into those tights again.”

He scowls, “I’ve been training for two months. I’m ready.”

    You smile, “You’re over eager.”

    “Let me guess, Dick wasn’t?”

You raise an eyebrow, “Dick had eight years of circus training to propel him forward. From the looks of it, you’re a small time thief.”

He scowls, “This is part of being the cool aunt?”

“This is me making sure my brother actually lets you out on the streets some day. He finds out about that stunt and you won’t even be allowed in the cave.” Silence lapses between you. You chat with Diane when she takes your orders.

When she’s gone, Jason asks, “Has he always been such a stick in the mud? Bruce, I mean.”

You stare at the boy, “He’s better now than when he was a kid. He kept himself very isolated after our parents died.”

“He was there, when they were killed?”

You nod, and he leans back in his seat. “He’s not all that bad. I mean he teaches me

some pretty cool things, and my new school is pretty cool.”

You smile, “You like school?”

He nods, “They offer a bunch of literature classes. It’s awesome.” And just like that you

watch the icy exterior melt away. Jason entertains you with stories from school. You don’t realize how late it is until Lew gives the signal to start cleaning up.

You drive Jason home, and give him your cell phone number. “Call me anytime you need it.”

He smiles, tosses out a “Thanks for the food, Aunt Y/N.” And runs inside. You pull away from your family home with ease. It takes a bit of time to get to the airport, and you’re on the next flight out.

You land in Central City at three a.m. and you nearly fall asleep on the ride home. Bone tired you open the door to the apartment and you freeze. You walk further in, to find a red blur zipping around the apartment.

It stops at the sight of you. Barry’s voice is soft, “Hey.”

You smile, “Hey.”

A moment of silence ticked by before Barry starts talking, “You’re homesick. I should have realized it sooner. It really was stupid of me. I mean your entire family is in Gotham, your company’s headquarters are there. You’re done setting up the satellite office here, you’ve been done for months, and to be honest I should have seen it earlier. You need a challenge, and Gotham provides that both professionally, and superhero wise. So I put in my notice at work, and Gotham PD has already taken me on. They were kind of desperate actually. And you own the apartment building, so we don’t have to worry about breaking the lease. I figure we could live at the manor for a few months, and we could get our own place close by, or maybe our own wing if you want to stay there. Wow that sounds weird … and I’m babbling. But Y/N I love you something fierce and I don’t want to lose you …”

By the time he’s done talking, he’s actually out of breath. You take the three steps needed to reach him, before throwing your arms around his neck, and kissing him. When you pull back you say, “This is the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me, but I don’t want you to give up everything for me.”

His voice is soft, “I’m not giving anything up. I don’t have much left here. Iris is married, and pregnant. Joe is getting ready to retire, Wally can more than handle the City, and to be completely honest I’d follow you to the ends of the Earth, because Y/N you’re my home.”

You kiss him again, long and slow, before pulling back and asking the question you’d intended all along, “Barry Allen, will you marry me?”

this was drawn almost two years ago, i think. but my execution at the time must have been utter shit because this thing looked horrible before i cleaned it up. i still maintain that this is a cool concept which is why i had such a hard time letting it go.

since i hear the new anime is finally going to have the circus arc, i guess this is a good time to resurface this!

Hide and Seek

Tony wasn’t too sure how they managed to get on to the topic.

Actually- scratch that- yes he was. It was Clint. All bad things in the world happened because of Clint.

Probably.

Anyway- Clint had been talking about his years in the circus, and how they’d taught him all sorts of weird ways to contort your body for the extra showmanship. “Made for some pretty awesome games of hide and seek, though,” he’d said, nodding serenely to himself as he’d sipped from his coffee.

“I bet I’d still find you in under an hour,” Natasha had challenged, raising a daring eyebrow up at him before turning back to the morning paper.

Clint scoffed, turning to Steve, who was stood cooking eggs on the stove. “Cap, you can vouch for me here, right? I am the master at hide and seek. No one beats me at hide and seek.”

And Steve had laughed- a lovely throaty thing that made Tony smile just from hearing it. “Uhhh, I don’t know? It depends on a lot of variables. If it were in a park, maybe- but here? Tony would beat you hands-down. He knows every nook and cranny of this tower, you wouldn’t stand a chance.”

And then- here had come Tony’s fatal mistake of the day. Later, he’d pin it on lack of caffeine in his system and the early hour at which he was conscious- but really, he was just an idiot who’d forgotten how offended his teammates could (and did) get on his behalf.

“Actually, I’ve never played. Although I could still probably beat Barton.”

Musical Kuroshitsuji: Tango on the Campania Visual Report

featuring

  • Furukawa Yuta as Sebastian Michaelis
  • Uchikawa Reo as Ciel Phantomhive
  • Uehara Takuya as Grell Sutcliff
  • Sasaki Yoshihide as Viscount Druitt

If you would like to translate the full interview, feel free to contact me and I will share the raw scans with you.

A fun fact Reo shared was that because “Noah’s Ark Circus” was his stage debut, the long lines were very challenging and he even had trouble keep up his breath. So in order to train his physical strength to tackle the lines, he and his father began running to school.

A feeling I believe that is genuinely shared by all of them is that Kuromyu is special and very close to their hearts. Yun and Reo had more stage anecdotes to share since they were part of the previous play, but for Takkun and Hide who have not been in their costumes for almost two years, they really spent a lot of the interview talking about how much Kuromyu means to them and how much more they intend to work on their performances.

Releasing Pennywise x Reader

Pennywise x Reader

Requester: Occamybarnes

Prompt: Would you be comfortable writing  something about Penny finding out the reader used to self harm and he doesn’t understand why they did it because he hasn’t seen it before. Or if you don’t feel comfortable with that maybe something about the reader being terrified of clowns but has a special connection to penny (maybe it being fall/autumn out since it’s my favorite time of year! 😍) thank you 💕

Warning: Self harm and dark with fluffy ending

Note: If you don’t like this story leave now. I don’t have time to listen about your bullshit about Pennywise x Reader. I understand self harm and I’ve had a couple of friends who have died from suicide so don’t talk shit about that either. If you are experiencing these thoughts or are self harming yourself PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call a suicide line or a close friend. You have meaning in your life and your meaning is not to kill yourself. On a less sad note enjoy!

(Quick sec! Does anyone know the name of the the anime from the anime gif? It seems familiar. OK thanx continue onwards!)

You sighed as you walked home burying your nose into your scarf as a chilling wind blew past you ruffling a few of the colorful leaves covering the ground. You had to experience yet another torturous day of school.

The sluts constantly teased you about your lack of showing skin and actually following the dress code. They spread rumors constantly and a few times they had purposefully whipped their braids to hit you or bumped into you multiple times.

You had no friends in any of the classes or in general, not even the teachers liked you and would ignore you if your hand was raised. At home it was just as bad. Your dad had died in a car crash a year ago leaving you with your mother who had started dating your douchebag of a father.

More than once he had beaten you black and blue and your mother just drowned herself in alcohol to prevent this. She was a waiter in a low class diner so she was hardly ever home when you were and when she came back had a few drinks and then went straight to bed.

Yet out of all this sadness and pain there was one person who had kept you from ending it all. Pennywise. His name was different because he was a clown which was odd since you had a deep fear of clowns ever since you were little from being kidnapped by one.

Coincidentally not Pennywise, but just an unstable man who had worked in the circus. Every time you saw a clown you’d avoid looking at them or just stay away from them in general.

Yet not Pennywise.

He had saved you from Henry over a year ago and ever since then you’ve been friends despite him looking like a clown and his past of eating children which you did know about but chose not to care since most children in the town were jerks and spoiled brats anyways.

You sighed as you looked up from your feet to see you had arrived at home. Or at least the hell hole you called home. You pulled out your keys and unlocked the door but needed to push hard with your shoulder to get it to open.

You sighed and pulled the key out putting it back in your pocket. Your living room was mostly clean from your mother’s OCD but it still stunk of alcohol and cigarettes your stepdad smoked.

You threw your bag onto the couch and went upstairs to your room. Your room was pretty decent despite a few clothes here and there. You grabbed your pajamas before going into the upstairs bathroom where there was a glass shower from the previous owners who despite having a small house wanted a box shower.

You took off your clothes and turned the water on not bothering to check the temperature before sitting down on the floor and wrapping your arms around your knees. You leaned forward so your bangs were covering your eyes and broke down.

This was tradition after a long hard day.

Just sit in the shower and cry.

When you were done you shut the shower off and dried off before getting dressed in your pajamas. You felt self conscious as you looked down at your arms that had many small lines of scars that were noticeably paler than your natural skin color.

Bruises covered your arms as well and a few were still healing. You checked the time and saw you had spent a lot longer in the shower than you should’ve and Pennywise  would be coming in a few minutes.

You were still stressed though and needed to get just a little more out. You grabbed your stepdads old razor from where he put it in the lower drawers of the sink drawers. You took a deep breath and began the first cut.

The first one was light so only tiny pearls of blood came like it was a paper cut. You tried again a little deeper and sighed satisfied as more blood began to pool. To you it felt satisfying when you cut because it felt like you were releasing your demons.

You added another one but it was just like the first one and was light. You were about to add the fourth but you were stopped when you heard a knock coming from your bedroom window.

You cursed and placed the razor on the sink before putting your arm under your sink watching as the water turned a light red before going down the drain. You heard the knock again and quickly dried your arm with a towel before hurrying to your room making sure to keep your arm close to your body.

Sure enough the dancing clown himself was crouched at the window. When he saw you he grinned and waved his hand resulting in the muffled tinkling of bells. You smiled and waved with your hand you usually didn’t use since your dominant arm was currently bleeding.

With one hand you unlocked the window lock and slid the sash up letting the incredibly tall yet loose and limber clown to squeeze inside.

“Hiya (Name)! Ya miss me?” Penny asked.

“Of course I did.” You chuckled.

The clown frowned noticing you seemed to be off lately. Your usual sparkle in your eyes wasn’t there and the adorable smile you had hardly shown true. You had your arm wrapped around you holding onto your other arm.

“What’s gotta down kiddo?” He asked tilting his head.

“Nothings wrong Mr.P. I’m fine.” You lied.

In truth you just wanted to spew out what was wrong and have him hold him close and comfort you. But you didn’t know what to expect.

Would he be mad?

Sad?

Angry?

Disappointed?

Would he leave you like the rest of your false friends?

You never wanted Pennywise to leave.

“Clearly something’s wrong. Do you want a balloon? Will that cheer you up?” He asked.

“No thanks.” You shrugged.

You could feel blood dripping down and noticed Pennywise seemed to smell it.

“Can you excuse me real quick? I’ll be right back.”

You hurried to the bathroom and closed the door before running back to the sink. You were feeling the demons scratching at the surface again needing to be released. You re-opened old and just healing scars adding a few more.

Tears were streaming down your face as with quick and deep swipes you released them on both arms watching as blood gushed from your wounds and dripped into the sink going down the drain.

Your demons, your pain was going down the drain and into the sewers to be forgotten. You sniffled and wiped your eyes smearing a little bit of your blood on your face.

“Kiddo?”

*whispering* lance circus auuuuuuuuuuuu *naruto-runs away*

Girl. GUUUURL i am living. I could probably make this a huge fix of it’s own too, but i won’t cuz I’m very sick. haha. Ok!

“Oh no,” Hunk blots off the white paint that has spotted his bright orange clown pants. His trailer smells like an odd combination of makeup and fresh bread.

“There’s no way in hell you’re using me as your sacrifice.” Hunk cries with more determination.

“Aw c’mon Hunk! You’re always being shot out of a cannon or something! How is this more dangerous?” Keith whines. His throwing knives jangle in his back pocket.

“Um, well for one thing…. it’s not a real cannon. It’s one I designed and built so I know exactly how much firepower it has and the risk that’s involved.” He sets down his pants. “And like, the whole joke is that I DON’T get shot out! There’s no risk.”

“We also go through our equipment before every show for safety checks.” Pidge chimes in from her dark corner of the trailer. He hair is still sprayed in crazy directions from their last performance, but she’s removed her makeup. There are still traces of red around her mouth.

“And Hunk even reduced the sugar content in his pies because they were stinging his eyes a bit too much.”

Hunk nods to confirm. Keith rolls his eyes and groans.

“I’m desperate here guys. I really need a new partner. Thace just called and said the doctors won’t sign off on him touring.” Keith had gotten the call just hours before. Thace had been his mentor and partner for all of their tours, but in recent years he had taken more of a back seat. He would participate less in the throwing aspect, and now just enjoyed spinning on boards blindfolded while Keith threw knives at him. Only the circus performers could tell that he was secretly napping under that blindfold.

But Thace was getting older. He would joke that Keith should find some “pretty young thing” to replace him, but Keith enjoyed working on their act together. he liked the close bond and comradery that they shared and thought he could get at least three more tours out of him. Unfortunately Thace’s heart had other plans.

“Pidge?” Keith asks. She snorts.

“Honestly, it’s not very impressive if you miss me. I’m such a small target. Not very entertaining.”

“That’s true.” Keith sighs. She definitely had a point.

“You could try Lance?” She asks. On the outside it’s an innocent enough question. Lance was their star trapeze and high wire artist. He was athletic, looked good in a leotard, and used to the adrenaline that came from circus work. Logically he’d be a perfect fit.

But Keith sees that knowing smirk on Pidge’s lips. He walks out of their trailer with a huff.

“Forget it.”

#Sweet Elite 30 days Challenge: What’s your scholar’s hidden talent?

my boi is very agile & flexible

5

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has been entertaining audiences for a long time. Its history goes back 146 years — to about the time when professional baseball emerged and before Coca-Cola was invented.

But this substantial chapter in American history comes to a close on Sunday. After years of declining ticket sales and seemingly endless conflicts with animal rights groups, Ringling Bros. will stage its final show in Uniondale, N.Y.

Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson is one of hundreds of Ringling performers and crew members with extraordinary talents who will be out of a job come Monday. Recruited fresh out of college, where he’d been studying voice performance and training to be a professional opera singer, he became Ringling’s first African-American ringmaster in 1998.

“Ironically enough, I will be the very last voice in the 146-year history of this show, so I will be the last person you hear to speak of ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’ — which is a wild little paradox, to be a first and a last at the same time. I don’t know too many people who can say that, in any industry,” he says.

bringing the war home (a series for the women of the mcu)

depends on where you’re standing
(a sharon carter story)

Some aunts take you to mass, but Sharon’s took her to the shooting range.

Sharon Carter grew up knowing the feel of bullets in her fingers, not rosaries. She learned Mandarin, German and Japanese, not Latin, because Latin was a dead language and Sharon, even at eight, knew her work would be for the living.

all things to all people all of the time
(a natasha romanoff story)

The Winter Soldier did not leave witnesses, but he had left her by that cliff outside of Odessa. Was Natasha an exception? Or did she not count as a witness? Had he looked at her and seen the same black button eyes reflected back at him, the on/off switch, the tick of clockwork?

Years later, Natasha watched the Soldier slam into the freeway concrete. The bullet holes in her abdomen had healed, and she knew this thing did not consider itself a person.

They were animate objects, both of them, useless in the witness stand. He hadn’t pulled the car transmission out, after all, hadn’t stripped the cell phone in the victim’s pocket, or shot up the rocks at the side of that road outside Odessa. He hadn’t shot her. He had left her there, breathing, and the Winter Soldier didn’t leave witnesses.

On cold nights, Natasha dreamed of ballerinas: porcelain, exquisite, their ribs jutting out stark under their skin.

that’s my official statement
(a maria hill story) (podfic here!)

The helicarrier rumbled under her feet and Fury ran a fond hand along one metal wall, like Coulson did with that car of his, the way Sharon stood in the Triskelion and nearly glowed.

Fury called it cancer once, after Loki’s attack was over, once Barton was back in the fold and New York saved. Maria kept in step behind him as Fury walked the helicarrier halls, reviewed the damage, as he mourned.

“No, sir,” she said. “Just war.”

on the verge of understanding something extraordinary
(a jane foster story)

“Jane, you’re an astrophysicist, not a storm chaser,” said Erik Selvig, and he was wrong. She was just an astrophysicist too.

my heart has no place in this
(a lady sif story)

Sif put on her armor in cold mornings and thought, “Once I wished for this.” What did she wish for now?

No matter. She was tired. She was mourning. But she could imagine no life but this. Any other life would make her pale and fade. This one made her burn, iron at the heart of a flame, the heart of a star, and she could imagine no other way worth living.

i am not dying for six college credits
(a darcy lewis story)

On a stormy desert night, a roaring giant of a man turned to Darcy Lewis and she tasered him in the chest.

She didn’t hesitate, wince, or apologize.

If you don’t want to get electrocuted by a civilian Midgardian, don’t charge at her on a dark and stormy night. Dangerous things come in small packages.

You’d think Loki’s brother would know that—but, ah, yes, back then Thor still had a lot to learn.

let the girl go
(a melinda may story)

The Cavalry once killed twenty men with a single pistol, they say.

Or maybe it was fifty.

The Cavalry once killed a hundred men, they say, on other days, around other campfires, these future agents of SHIELD, these gossipy children. On horseback, they tell the freshmen, and snicker. A hundred men.

The number trips off the tongue. The methods vary, the numbers, and they all trip off the tongue easily—what is twenty dead villains? A hundred? A good day’s work. We’re the heroes, after all.

Fifty, twenty, a hundred—they’re all just syllables. All just sizes of victories, not a careful count of gasping faces.

The Cavalry killed twenty—fifty—a hundred men, and Melinda May saw the light go out of each of them.

As a child, Melinda used to steal the plastic lid off the kitchen trash can, mount it on one arm, and charge out into the backyard to save the world with her plastic shield.

i made a name for myself
(another natasha romanoff story)
(incorporates age of ultron)

Clint taught his kids handstands and cartwheels from his circus days. They play-wrestled in the grass until Cooper decided he was done with this whole physical contact thing, or until they knocked Clint’s hearing aids out.

Natasha taught the kids to throw knives into fence posts, and pretended those skills were from a circus or lazy country summer days, too.

about damn time
(a story for hope van dyne)

Hope van Dyne was scared of heights from age seven onwards. The first time she had to get on a plane (age ten), she sat stony-faced, staring out the window, not looking at her father, the half-moons of her nails biting deep into her chubby palms. When she was thirteen years old, she asked her father for flying lessons.

That should have been her first hint, that when she asked for flying lessons for her birthday, he did not automatically realize this was about her mother.

But perhaps– perhaps even if it had been true, the airplane crash, perhaps her father still would not have understood. He was not the kind of man who found the things he feared most, tracked them down, and then slew them with their own poison.

i can tell the difference
(a story for laura barton)

Laura hadn’t fallen for Clint first; she had been struck first, though. And, yes, she had heard all the possible jokes about Cupid and his arrows, thank you very much for your contribution.

But it was still true: she hadn’t fallen first. Laura had been struck, first, curious about this boy—distracted, rumpled, so very human—and his perfect, perfect aim. You don’t get perfect marksmanship by being born with it.

Laura sat forward the first time she saw him, this circus kid who gulped from a stained coffee cup before stumbling onstage and proceeding to take eighteen perfect shots, with three different bows, four of them without even looking.

Laura leaned forward. These things were not gifts.

everybody is afraid of something
(a story for wanda maximoff)

In an open-air cafe in Lagos, Nigeria, Wanda had close-bitten, black-painted nails. She put real sugar in her coffee. When she said we, these days, she did not always mean Pietro. But, sometimes, she did.

Bat-Aunt: Part 7

Prompt: How Bruce Wayne’s life changes when a little sister is thrown into the mix

Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6

“You look stunning.”

You glance in the mirror at the man behind you. It’s pure stubbornness that keeps you from scowling. Turning around slowly, you give Thomas Elliot a small smile. “Thank you Thomas.”

When he takes a step closer you take a step back. You see the frustration in his eyes at the move, but it’s quickly gone. “I was hoping to steal a dance.”

“I haven’t even made my entrance yet Thomas. There are many things I have to do, before I even think about dancing.”

“Of course. And do you have anyone to escort you in. There’s quite a few men waiting for you to arrive, and I’d be happy to help keep them at bay.”

You wanted to laugh at that. You knew about the single men waiting for you. The eligible bachelors determined to get the step up in life that came with marrying into the Wayne family. Thomas might as well have been their leader. “I’m quite capable of defending myself.”

Before you can blink Thomas Elliot is in your personal space, his hand gripping your upper arm painfully. You don’t let the pain show, you refuse to give him the satisfaction. His voice lowers to a whisper, “Now, Y/N don’t be that way. This game we’ve been playing was fun, but it has run its course.”

You glare at him before spitting out, “This is no game. I have no interest in you, and I never will. Now let go of my arm before I call security. Then you’ll be in the papers for something very different than you had hoped.”

The look on his face was terrifying, “Make me.”

    “Gladly.”

The addition of the new voice was welcome. And as Thomas Elliot was pulled off of you and shoved away, you could only grin at the familiar head of dark hair. The look on your nephew’s face was priceless. It was all anger, but he still looked adorable. He was dressed in his own tux, and his hair was slicked back with some of Bruce’s hair product.

You’d watched as he and Bruce had gotten ready, as he had begged your brother to let him shave. And Bruce had been insistent that he wasn’t ready. The fact that Dick was ten years old supported that.

“Well if it isn’t the adopted circus freak.”

Rage filled you at the words, but before you could surge forward Richard came back with, “I might be a circus freak, but at least I know the meaning of the word ‘no.’ Even better, I know how to take a hint.” Thomas took a step forward, and Richard widened his stance, ready to take the doctor on. You knew Richard would win.

    “Well, what’s going on here?”

You smile at the sight before you. Barry Allen had always been very casual. His line of work seemed to demand it. But standing there, dressed in a tux, you couldn’t help but be somewhat impressed, and a little flustered.

Barry’s posture was relaxed, just like it always was, but you could see the fire burning just behind his eyes. Carefully he positioned himself in front of Richard, and taking the hint, your nephew slowly walked backwards, until he was standing right in front of you. Calmly, you wrap an arm around his shoulder.

    “And who are you?”

The smile never leaves Barry’s face, “Barry Allen. Y/N’s boyfriend.”

You want to laugh as the meaning behind the words sink in, the look on Thomas’ face almost seals the deal. Instead you glance down at your nephew, who’s staring at you with big eyes. You wink at him.

“How long has this been going on?”

Barry glances back at you, “About nine months, right?”

You shrug, “Give or take a few weeks.”

He smiles before turning back to Thomas, “As you can see, I have this covered.”

The rage and Thomas’ eyes, has you pushing Richard behind you, “And what do you, common of the earth scum, have to offer her?”

You scoff and answer for him, “Love? Laughter? Affection? Hell of a kisser.”

Barry smiles at you and in that second of distraction Thomas charges him. You watch with a smile as Barry dodges and then puts him on his ass. As if out of nowhere, security shows up and hauls Thomas to his feet. That’s when your brother appears, “You’ve overstayed your welcome Thomas.”

You watch the doctor sputter, “Bruce, I was just trying to …”

“Force yourself on my sister. Understood. Which is why you are now banned from all Wayne Gala events and Wayne owned buildings. Go near my sister again, and I’ll pull out a restraining order.”

You watch as a yelling Thomas Elliot is hauled out of the building, before turning your attention to Bruce. He and Barry are in the middle of a staredown, when finally he breaks the silence and asks, “My sister?”

Barry smiles, “Yep.”

Bruce looks around him at you, “You’re not going to let me kill him, are you?”

You move forward and wrap your arms around Barry, “I love him Bruce.”

Your brother sighs, “And you couldn’t tell me this why?”

Barry’s hand covers yours, “I don’t know if you know this, but you have a habit of hovering and being just a tad over protective.”

Bruce sighs, “She’s my little sister Allen. She’s a grown ass woman who’s never had a problem making her own decisions. She’s stubborn as hell, and vicious when it comes to protecting those she cares about. And you … well you’re like a bunny. You break her heart, and she’ll chew you up and spit you out herself.”

You smile at your brother before going over and hugging him. “Thank you.”

He kisses your forehead, “Nothing to thank me for. You’ve always had good taste. Speaking of which I need to borrow you for a minute.”

You look back at Barry, who’s dealing with a narrowed eyed Richard, and nod. “We’ve got to be quick. Richard looks ready to interrogate.”

Bruce winks at you, “Exactly the point.”

You follow Bruce down the hall and into his bedroom. You take a seat on the bed as he rummages through his chest of drawers. A minute later he appears in front of you with a velvet box. More than a bit curious, you take it and open it. You stare at the contents before your fingers ghost over the strand of pearls inside. “These are … were …”

Bruce nods, “They’re mom’s pearls. Dad gave them to her, they were one of her most prized possessions. Seems only right, that you should have them.”

You glance at him, “Are you sure?”

He nods, “My neck is too thick to wear them.”

You laugh as he helps you put them on. Once they’re around your neck you walk back to the spot where Barry and Richard are waiting. Your nephew seems a little puzzled over something, but Barry simply smiles at you. Extending his arm he asks, “You ready?”

You nod, “Always.”

And then there was Merlin

Pairing: Eggsy x Reader

Requested: Yup!

Pronouns: She/Her

GIF: turonegerton

Song: ‘Raging’ by Kygo

Warnings: Swearing.

Reading time: 18 Min.

Notes: None

Summary: You’ve been working nights in the tech department of Kingsman and have a run in with Eggsy that could make things a little messy.

____________________

“You invent some kinda way to write code with your eyeballs?”

A wisp of hot breath tickled her ear. Y/N whipped her head sideways to meet it. Her face collided with the brim of Eggsy’s hat. “Oww,” She exclaimed. Her eyes squinted shut as she rubbed the bridge of her nose.

“Sorry love.” Eggsy stood behind her chair, leaning over her shoulder, his face next to hers. “You’ve been staring at that screen for 10 minutes. I wasn’t sure you were even awake.”

“I wasn’t,” Y/N muttered. She turned back to the computer, slouched down in her chair and yawned.

It had been almost two months since she started working nights in the tech department of Kingsman. She had met all the agents her first day but only ever saw Trinity, the night watch, which usually meant she could get in a good nap during her shifts.

“Don’t see you around here much.” Eggsy stood up.

“Yea, Uni keeps me pretty busy during the day,” She spoke with her eyes closed, arms folded across her chest. “But Merlin needs my help here so I find the- SHIT!” She sat up fast, eyes gaping. “What time is it?” She frantically checked the desktop for her phone and retrieved it from under a pile of papers and a half eaten banana. It was dead.

I just started a double degree (engineering and business) and holy shit I regret everything. THIS IS ME SCREAMING INTO THE ABYSS. I DONT KNOW HOW I'LL EVER MAKE IT TO MY FINAL YEAR

/SCREAMS INTO THE ABYSS WITH YOU/

Here’s a few things I wish I’d known before I started my double degree (+ a few things which have kept me sane since then!)

1. Coffee.

  • I started my degree as a ‘social’ coffee drinker.
  • NOW ITS LIKE WATER.
  • PUMP THAT SHIT INTO MY BLOODSTREAM, IV DRIP, THERE IS NO LIFE BEFORE COFFEE

2. Student Discounts

  • Reap the benefits of student discounts. Seriously.
  • Know where the cheapest coffee is, transport subsidies, printing subsidies, student sales, student flights!

3. Shit happens, things change.

  • Just because you hate something now, doesn’t mean you can’t love it later. The upshot being - just because you love something now, doesn’t mean you won’t hate it with the feverish passion of a thousand burning suns later.
  • Your interests will change. Your goals, both academic and personal will change. That’s ok.
  • Find something that motivates you to complete each degree. You may enjoy both your degrees equally. You may prefer one over the other - particularly if you’re still completing tedious core units for one degree whilst you get to do much more interesting advanced units for the other. Remind yourself why you’re doing this degree. Why are you doing double the workload, why is it worth the late nights, caffeine overdoses and the concurrent deadlines? Assess each degree independently of the other and find something which motivates you to study in that field.
  • In my case, I was very demotivated halfway through my degree. Honestly speaking, in my 3/4th year, I was ready to drop my other degree and graduate with a single. I only continued my other degree after going on exchange (read: more holiday than study) and when I could finally do advanced units which were interesting to me.
  • For others, changing degree (yes, even in 6th year) was the best choice for them. They’re much happier now, and much more driven - and it was their experience throughout their double degree that helped them realise their passion in another field. Sometimes, finding out what you hate is just as important as finding out what you love.

4. Save a first year unit for the end of your degree

  • Ok, I shit you not.
  • If your degree structure allows you to save an elective first year unit for your penultimate or final year, do it.
  • Sure, its strange to walk into a class of freshers. When you inevitably have an ‘ice breaker’ exercise, watch in sick fascination as the majority of the class whips their head around incredulously as you introduce yourself as a “fifth year student”
  • BUT BOY THE REWARDS ARE SWEET. For example, having a reduced workload so you can focus on your advanced units. Easy marks because you already know half the shit, and if not, you know where to find it.
  • You already have half the transferrable skills (report writing, referencing, critical analysis, knowledge of HOW THE FUCK TO SUBMIT AN ASSIGNMENT THROUGH YOUR UNI SERVER) to do well. You could probably skip all the intro/ getting to know your way around the library resources classes.
  • A relaxed class and a healthy boost to my GPA? Sign me up.

5. Use time to your advantage

  • One of the things I’m grateful for is time.
  • Its a long degree. Instinctively I knew this when I signed up - 5 to 7 years is a long time. But I only truly felt how long a period that time was when my friends with shorter degrees graduated and entered the workforce. And whilst I enjoy what I study, the mechanics and routine of going to uni and sitting exams etc remains tedious.
  • But heck, I am grateful for the time and opportunity I’ve had to figure shit out in the safety of university.
  • Professionally, I know the ins and outs of graduate job hunting. I have had the opportunity to ‘test run’ interviews etc, and learn about more opportunities with each passing cycle - the fairs, the assistance you can get at uni, the whole recruiting circus. I have a well established study system that works for me, featuring keyboard shortcuts, shitonnes of sticky notes and my weight in coffee. I know where to ask for help and I know which areas of campus are the best study spots and which places to avoid during mid-sem hell. I know what events my student society runs, and I know when there’s free breakfast during semester. I’m confident. I’m certainly not ready to face the workplace, but I’m more prepared that I would have been 3 years ago.
  • Personally, I’m more confident in my identity and what direction I want to take in the future. I know what I like, what I dislike, and what I’m willing to sacrifice/invest for what ends. I’ve learnt a lot about how I handle stress, friendship and 8am non recorded classes (read: not well).
  • Also, FIGURE OUT WHAT YOUR HIGHER DEGREE GRADUATE REQUIREMENTS ARE BECAUSE YOU HAVE TIME TO FIX THINGS. Do you need practical experience to graduate? Do you need to complete an internship unit? How many units of each degree do you need to complete? Have you completed the correct number of majors for each degree? Find out early, so you can amend your study plan.

6. Old habits die hard.

  •  AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH I HAVE YET TO GO A SEMESTER WITHOUT PULLING AN ALL NIGHTER, BLESS NAIVE FIRST YEAR ME.
  • In saying that, use the length of your degree to develop good habits. Figure out what study method works for you, find out whether you’re more engaged in morning or evening classes. Where’s a decent study spot on campus?
  • Don’t be afraid to apply the skills you’ve learnt from one degree to the other. Whether it be research skills, note taking habits or otherwise. Keep in mind the differences between each discipline.
  • Work smart. By the time you’ve reached 3rd year, you’ll be at the halfway point. You know what lectures are like. You know what tutorials are like. You know which textbooks are worth the buy and what assessment structure suits you. Don’t be afraid to exploit that knowledge to forge a better semester for yourself.

Its a long journey. There’s going to be good days, shit days and then “fuck the world, what the hell is this” days. There’s going to be coinciding deadlines and  insane exam timetables. And that’s not even counting the late night existential crises in between.

But you’re going to learn so much - both in an academic and personal sense. You’ll find out what you enjoy, what lecturers to avoid, what subjects bore you to death. You’ll meet so many people - inspirational people, motivational people, and some assholes. You’ll realise that fuck yes I can complete a 3000 word assignment the night before, and yes I can survive a 90% exam.

Remember you always have the freedom to choose. You don’t have to do it all at once - go on exchange, take a semester off, find something to break up the tedium of study. Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is to figure out what’s best for you and pursuing it.

Good luck dear anon. You’re the first double degree anon to scream into the abyss - THIS IS ME SCREAMING ALONGSIDE YOU OH MY GOD YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

All the best,

fuckstudy
