not a time bomb but a team

Beauty and the Beast except Demospy raise your hand if you agree

  • What she says: I'm fine
  • What she means: The fact that Hunk and Coran are the only two people out of team voltron that appreciate lance makes me sick to the stomach. Lance is smart, caring, and has amazing leadership skills. He is MUCH more than he thinks he is. How 5 of the 7 people out of Team Voltron push him to the side and don't listen to him even when he makes valid points because of his flirty and joking nature is ridiculous. Lance has saved people on the team and outside of it multiple times, and the fact that they don't take that into consideration or appreciate it is horrible and breaks my heart. In season 1 where he spots rover but can tell it's not the REAL rover is a big thing. When it turns into a bomb, his first instinct it to shield coran from it. Later in that season when Lance and Keith are on the balmera trying to stop the galra ships, Keith's first instinct is to rush in and attack while lance stops him and reminds him that the balmera is a living animal and that they can't attack. So lance comes up with a strategic plan to trap in the ships while not damaging the balmera and keeping their task and presence hidden. In season 2 when lance and hunk are in the underwater kingdom and the when the queen pleas to lance that she doesn't know what was going on and cares about her kingdom lance figures out that the food was mind swishing everyone but the baku got the queen first so that's why it was abe to control the rest of the kingdom. He figures this out in 0.05 seconds. In Jailbreak when lance gets the Yupper when sneaking out a galra approaches him and the first thing lance does is jump in front of the yupper and says "stay away from my friend" Lance deserves so much more from the characters in the show and how the creators treated him in season 2 was appalling. I hope he gets the screentime and respect he deserves without being dumbed down to comic relief in future seasons.

Fun facts from the tf2 comics:

- All of them are millionaires (Demoman’s mom still tells him he needs more jobs anyways)

- Spy is in his late 40s/early 50s (Scout is 27)

- Medic has had 8 souls surgically attached to him (shoutout to that one post about how this is possibly the reason why scout and sniper both went to heaven)

- Demoman lives in a mansion with his mom and the eyelander

- Sniper isn’t Australian (something he himself suspected due to the fact that he never picked fights with people and didn’t have Australia-shaped chest hair)

- Pyro was a CEO

- tf2′s canon with the mercs as we know them in the game takes place between 1968-1972 (with the Gravel War between RED and BLU ending in 1971 and the team being reassembled in 1972)

- Saxton Hale discovered the internet in 1970 to sell his weapons and hats online

- Soldier murdered Tom Jones (even though the actual singer is still alive and well today and i spend most of my time wondering whether or not he knows that he’s dead)

- The mercs are responsible for Teufort’s lead-poisoned water system (a fact that was previously unbeknownst to Soldier, who drinks it anyways)

- Scout has Tom Jones’ hit song “Sex Bomb” tattooed on his chest. However, “Sex Bomb” wasn’t released until 1999 (12 years after Scout is supposed to die)

- All the promotional “Meet the ____” shorts were a plot by the administrator to spy on the mercs

- Engineer’s grandfather was personally acquainted with the Administrator in 1890 (80 years before tf2′s canon begins)

Okay but can we all agree that the character contrast in Wonder Woman between Steve and Diana was one of the best, most thought-out things we’ve seen on screen in some time?

I mean, think about it. Steve is a spy. He is used to doing things covertly and subtly. He likes to find the secret passages, physically and figuratively. Diana, on the other hand, is a warrior. She does things with force, whether it be gaining information or taking out the enemy. She barges right in, rather than looking for a secret entrance. Where Steve would rather place a bomb, Diana would rather prefer by hand.

At the same time, Diana is still so fresh in this new concept of war. She is the best warrior, but she has yet to see battle. Steve has externally hardened himself against the roughness and heartache of war. Diana focuses on the details (the people enslaved in the village) and Steve looks at the big picture (Axis powers are planning on killing more than just a village with the gas). These differences alone are what makes their team work; Steve keeps Diana focused on the mission, while Diana makes sure Steve remembers why the mission exists in the first place.

They are divided by method, but connected by their goal and their hope of stopping more death.

Their relationship, both working and personal, was so beautiful and well thought-out that I got chills watching them work together. Their differences didn’t create friction, but gilded together like a machine. They did have hiccups along the way, but they learned from them and adjusted accordingly. This is how characters were meant to be written.

Homie out.

I keep seeing annoying thinkpieces say that Cap was rejecting the very idea of external oversight of any kind, which— no he wasn’t?? Even remotely??

He was basically saying that he wouldn’t be comfortable signing something unless there was a system of checks and balances in place that would prevent The Avengers from becoming “Winter Soldier Death Squad: USA Edition”. (Yes, I know he didn’t know about the deathsquad at that point. But he’s done his homework on US military policy. His concerns are not unfounded.)

Remember what Bucky said about his former co-workers? “Their most elite death squad. More kills than anyone in HYDRA history, and that was before the serum. They speak 30 languages. Can hide in plain sight. Infiltrate, assassinate, destabilize. They can take a whole country down in one night, you’d never see them coming.” Steve is asking for assurances that whatever governing body gains control of the Avengers won’t decide to use THEM that way— and, in fact, won’t even THINK of them that way. I think that’s part of why he becomes so furious whenever people refer to Bucky, Wanda, Thor, and Bruce as “weapons” instead of people. When you talk about a person as BEING a weapon, you have taken the first step towards using them AS a weapon.

In fact, in many ways, I feel like CACW was basically Watchmen: Redux, but the version Zack Snyder refused to make. The central question is the same: who watches the watchmen?

In Watchmen (book more than movie), the answer is not “no one.” The answer is: different people/groups (and yes, sometimes no one) at different periods throughout history. But remember when the group watching the Watchmen was the US Government? Because when the US Government was in charge, after the Keene Act (cough Sokovian Accords cough), the Watchmen had the option of either retiring, or accepting orders to destabilize foreign governments and commit mass slaughter, all in the name of “keeping order”. AKA, literally what the Winter Soldier Deathsquad in CACW were built for. Remember, Hydra’s #1 goal is “order”, but an authoritarian order that they get to decide and enforce.

In CACW, I don’t see Steve saying “The Avengers are perfect and no one can tell us what to doooooooo!” He knows perfectly well that they are not infallible (see A:AoU). But he also knows that on the ground and in the field, things go FUBAR and you have to restrategize and do the best with what you have at the time. One of Cap’s superpowers is his instinct for strategy in battle (clearly serum-based, since pre-serum Steve Rogers’ favorite strategy was “spend entire life running into brick walls both metaphorical and literal”). He is asking: will the Accords allow him to use that power? Would he be allowed to use his own judgment? Would the rest of his team? INCLUDING Tony? When Tony flew the nuclear bomb up into the sky-hole way back in The Avengers, he was essentially violating the will of the government agency that decided to nuke NYC, because he saw a way to stop the invasion without causing the deaths of millions. Would the policies of the Accords allow him to make that decision (or a parallel one) in the future, or would he be arrested and locked up for violating his “contract”?

I mean, sure, in the midst of the initial discussion, Peggy dies, so Steve bails, and then all the Bucky stalking starts up and Steve is all “I WILL BURN DOWN THE WORLD FOR HIM, SEE IF I WON’T”, so the initial conflict gets ratcheted up about a million times, but the central question of “who gets to be in charge of these superpowered weirdos, and what does being in charge really mean” still runs through the whole plot. It runs parallel to the question of Bucky’s culpability. When you are turned into a weapon and used as a weapon, are you to blame for the destruction that follows?

I keep seeing the conflict framed as this—

TONY: We need to be held accountable!
CAP: No we don’t!

But I don’t see that at all in the actual movie. I see this—

TONY: We need to be held accountable!
CAP: Accountable to whom? And what does being held accountable mean?

[feelings-based punching breaks out, no one ever answers Cap’s implied question, Tony himself finds out that being “held accountable” means being shoved into the nautical oubliette where you get de-powered and possibly beaten for the rest of your life, T’Challa proves that his government is the only one that should be trusted to be in charge of anything]

Imagine this:
Lance being super scary when he starts to be really serious. Like, “I don’t care what you think but you need to shut your mouth and listen to me or I will sew it shut for you.”
Like, the team thought he is joking but then the atmosphere become really cold because Lance, for once, is being openly serious.
And basically the team learned that Lance is a walking time bomb.

Voltron theory time y’all (somewhat serious)

Okay, so anyone remember Jeremy Shada’s joke about vld season 3 where he says “I mean, Lance dies, so that’ll be fun.”

And remember those godforsaken leaks with content that got Studio Mir in some legal trouble with Dreamworks?  (I’m not gonna mention what the leaks contained directly but I have to assume for the purposes of the theory that we all know what they were of, even if we didn’t see them) (it’s only briefly referenced don’t worry)

Well what if Lance gets captured by the Galra

And Prince Lotor, being the conniving, dastardly little shit that we know he’s gonna be, has a plan to majorly fuck with the rest of team Voltron

So he lets it leak in some way that Lance is being held in a certain cell in a certain part of a prison/space station/whatever

When in reality Lance is nowhere near there, and is maybe even kept very near to Prince Lotor’s quarters or something so the purple asshole can play constant mind games with him

But so team Voltron gets ahold of the “leaked” information– just as planned– and they head out for the space prison to free Lance

But Lotor has ordered a bomb to be put in what is supposedly Lance’s cell

And just as the paladins are nearing the cell, already calling out to Lance and telling him that everything’s gonna be okay, that they’re here to rescue him, the bomb goes off

They manage to escape with their lives but it’s obvious that Lance couldn’t have survived the blast.  They tear themselves away from the wreckage.  They go back the to ship thinking- nay- knowing that Lance is dead.

Meanwhile, the real Lance is forced to watch it all unfold from wherever he’s actually being held.  His friends nearly died because of him.  Cue the langst

but this situation is now the perfect setup for that infamous leak

Keith was leading the team at the time of Lance’s capture

Keith was the one who led the “botched” rescue operation

Keith feels responsible for his friend’s death (bonus points if they had a fight or a bonding moment shortly before Lance’s capture)

Cue teamwide angst and Lotor playing even more mind games with Lance

BONUS POINTS IF LOTOR TRIES TO GET LANCE TO JOIN HIS SIDE

TRIPLE BONUS POINTS IF LANCE DOES JOIN HIM BUT AS A DOUBLE AGENT OF SORTS TRYING TO GATHER AS MUCH INFO AS HE CAN BEFORE SAFELY GETTING BACK TO HIS TEAM

and quadruple bonus points for teamwide bonding moment and happy fluff when Lance finally gets back to them and majestically reveals that he is, in fact, alive

Voltron time

Okay, but listen! LISTEN!

So no one knows if any characters are going to be killed off in future seasons, but because of the 80s show, Shiro is a prime target to get the chop, if you know what I mean.

BUT!

That would be too predictable, right? RIGHT? Everyone knows Shiro’s character gets fucked up in the original, or at least the character he was based off of. So what if something else happens when they find him?

PLOT TWIST!

Nobody dies!

No, LISTEN! Allura will be bonding with the blue lion, so even though she’s not the best paladin yet, she’s more than capable and is able to use her many other talents on the battlefield. You know, magic, super strength, etc. Meanwhile, Lance and Keith are like co-leadering or whatever, sharing Red or changing lions or- IT DOESN’T MATTER! Anyway, so they find Shiro, right? And at first it’s all happy and shit, but of course they find him in a dangerous place or something and they have to fight their way out with him and Matt and shit. Anyway, so something happens and everyone is vulnerable or something, I don’t know. Anyway, WE CAN SEE THE KILLING BLOW COMING FOR SHIRO! We know it’s coming, he doesn’t stand a chance, OH GOD IT ALL MAKES SENSE! CURSE YOU 80s VOLTRON! But then! THEN-

So Lance is looking at this and is like, oh no, we just found Shiro, we can’t afford to lose him again because it’s been so hard without him and Keith has been super depressed. And so Lance is all “Allura is turning into a great blue paladin, and if Shiro comes back to the team, then that means Keith can go back to being the red paladin full time and Shiro can be leader again.” And because it’s Lance, who devalues himself and also has a self-sacrificing streak (looks at the bomb with Coran/how upset he gets every time he fails to protect his friends), he sees the situation like this–He is the least valuable member of the team as of that point.

And so whatever is happening to Shiro, Lance GETS INVOLVED and, I don’t know, pushes Shiro out of the way and so HE’S the one that DIES!

I’m serious. Like, if I’m taking a look at the 80s Voltron for inspiration, but I’m also not wanting to be predictable, that’s what I would do. Like, Lance’s arc is set up perfectly for this development and, from a writer’s perspective, he’s the lovable jokester that kicks the bucket just for sentimentality’s sake.

If I was writing it, that’s what I would do anyway despite the fact that Lance is my fav character.

ANYWAY! HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR DAILY DOSE OF LANGST! BYE!

Oo so I was thinking maybe Lance has a ton of weird knowledge because he loves reading books about different things (boats, building, animals/plants). So one day the gang is on a mission and someone gets a bomb strapped to them or there is just a bomb they need to defuse. Everyone is freaking out and trying to think. Lance gets near it and everyone just panics thinking he'll set it off, yelling/langst, then Lance defused it and everyone is in awe or something. I just love your blog!!

oh my god I’m so happy to hear that! I’m glad you enjoy my blog so much!

if it’s ok with you, I’m gonna do more of an overall plot ( and maybe mix in my own headcanons):

so pretty much, Lance grew up in an all Cuban house, he never learned English because he never needed to. he grew up helping his mama around the house or helping his father on his fishing boat.

that’s where Lance first fell in love with the stars. he would ask his dad all the time about them and the constellations they created. his father did his very best to fuel Lance’s interests, but they lived on a very low incomes, and alot of the time Lance didn’t get alot of stuff. he sometimes would skip meals and give hem to his younger siblings so that way they didn’t grow hungry. Lance didn’t get alot of books growing up, and any of the books about space were in English. when he heard about the Garrison, he knew he had to join. only problem was that it was in America, and Lance didn’t know English at all.

so Lance would go to the old library and pick up any English book he could get his hands on. childern’s books, worker manuals, how-to books, he read them all. he would learn both the English language as well as learn how to do anything the books were talking about. another way Lance learned English was watching American shows, he mostly stuck with historical or informational shows. learning how they talked and pronounced the words he’s red over time and time again. (the library only has a certain amount of English books, so he would reread he same ones over and over again) he also learned interesting facts about American history, or watch how to fix a car, he picked it all up.

when he finally applied to the Garrison, he was a ball of nerves. his English wasn’t the best, and his accent heavy in his voice as he sounds out different English words. but you can imagine how proud his family was when Lance didn’t just get accepted, but got a full ride scholarship as well. he promised to keep u his studies and that he wont let them down.

when he does get the Garrison, he realizes how bad his spoken English is compared to everyone else. many time he’ll say the wrong word or forget the English word entirely, and many chalk him up to being the class clown, thinking that he’s doing it on purpose. they don’t realize how much it hurts Lance whenever one of the teachers or another student calls him out for messing up a word or saying the wrong thing. Lance will spend all his time either in the simulation room or in the library, reading over and over different books about the most random of things, trying to both understand the lessons he was just taught as well as broadening his knowledge of the English language. it’s in the library that he met Hunk, and they both gain the first real friend at the Garrison.

now fast forward to the team meeting, and them releasing Allura and Coran, and forming Voltron and what not. Lance missing home so much because he misses his family, and wondering how they’re doing. he misses being able to speak his first Language, he misses calling up his brothers and talking to them explaining complex math and engineering that he learned that day, knowing how much his older brother loves talking about that kind of stuff.

every once in a while, Lance will slip up with his English and it’ll get either a couple of laughs or some scowls, the team thinking that he’s trying to mess around and pull jokes in very serious moments when really he just messed up and didn’t know the right word. Lance will do what he always does when he feels like he’s letting down everyone around him. he goes to the library. it took him awhile to find it, and everything was in Altean, but Lance didn’t mind. he enjoys learning languages and sets to work figuring out the Altean language.

then, some time later, during one to the training exercises, Allura decides to change things up a bit and do a team building exercise. she sets up a bomb (not a real one, that would be crazy) but she says its an old child’s game and while it doesn’t explode, it will make quite the mess if they don’t disarm it in time.

so everyone is talking, trying to figure out how to disarm the bomb, and every time Lance tries to add to the conversation, he gets talked over or ignored. Lance decides to look over the device, trying to recognize anything about it, or any of the words look familiar.  lance remembers about reading one of the books back at the Garrison about how to disarm a bomb (how it got into a space school, he doesn’t really know) and it looks to have the same basic design as one of them. all he really needs is to figure out which wire is the one to cut.

it seems that the others stopped talking at that time to seeing Lance hovering over the device with a pair of pliers, to which they freak out and pull him away, and right when he figured out which wire to cut, and chastise him for trying to do disarm the bomb without them, and some of the comments come off more rude than others and they even put him in a ‘time out zone’ for trying to eal with something very dangerous and sensitive, but they just didn’t want Lance to get hurt because he messed around with it. Lance merely stands back up and walks back over to the bomb, and picking out the right wires, he cuts them, to the teams horror, they brace for their gooey demise.

but nothing happens. the team is amazed that Lance actually defused the bomb. and of course they all crowd around Lance, asking how he did that and why he didn’t tell them he could do it and getting a few cheers of congratulations (mostly from Hunk) lance explains that he would read alot of books and informational shows to understand the English Language, and one of those books was about how to disarm a bomb. of course the others are surprised that English isn’t his first language (they assumed it was since he was at the Garrison) and he continues to explain that when he messes up his words, its not usually on purpose and that he honestly didn’t know the word in English. everyone apologizes about always getting on him when they thought he was joking, and he easily forgives them. afterwards, Shiro even comes up to Lance and personally apologizes about not figuring it out sooner, since he also struggled with learning English when he and his family moved to America. (cue bonding moment!)

and a little extra silliness on the side~

Lance knowing just the weirdest stuff about history, just odd tidbits that he picked u from those history shows, and just spouting them out at the most random of times.

“hey Lance, can you pass me that wrench?”

“did you know that in the 1700s, the french were scared of potatoes.”

“what? dude, that has nothing to do with getting the wrench! why on Earth would you say- you know what, screw it, why were the french scared of potatoes?!”

i know this wasn’t really angsty , but i hope you like it anyways! thank you so much for the ask!

remember that time? → inspired by this post by @vrepit-sals

“God,” says Lance with a laugh, leaning further back into the sofa, “Do you remember the first time Hunk corrected Iverson in class?”

Hunk smiles a little proudly, and Pidge bounces in her seat, pointing at Lance with a gasp. Keith is silent, but watches them fondly as they chatter, unconsciously finding himself paying more attention to Lance’s toothy smile and slightly tussled hair than the topic in question.

“Yes!” Pidge hisses, “Quiznak, I can’t believe I forgot about that! Hands down the best day of my life.”
