nostalgia rock

Shout out to the kids born at the turn of the century. We’re all a bit to young to be ‘90s kids, and yet we experienced a cultural phenomenon all our own.

Shout out to the kids who grew up with the Disney Channel. Not “old Disney”, but with such gems as:

  • Hannah Montana
  • The Suite Life of Zack and Cody
  • Phineas and Ferb
  • The Wizards of Waverly Place
  • Sonny with a Chance
  • The Suite Life on Deck

And, of course, the Disney Channel original movies:

  • High School Musical (and both sequels)
  • Princess Protection Program
  • Camp Rock
  • Cheetah Girls
  • Jump In

And the other blockbuster (rip) movies of the time:

  • Sky High
  • Freaky Friday
  • The Princess Diaries
  • Ratatouille

Shout out to the kids who collected silly bands like it was their job. The kids who were cool if the had a slide phone with an unlimited text plan. The kids whose boybands were Big Time Rush and the Jonas Brothers.

Shout out to the kids who wore their bootcut jeans and sequins with pride. we may not be ‘90s kids, but we still have our fair share of cringy nostalgia.

Poorly Drawn Naruto

I was looking back at old Naruto for some good nostalgia…

And found this.

All of this.

This next one made it into the opening of the show.

The opening of the show.

And by far, my favorite…

Interpol - Obstacle 1 (Live Kimmel)

Interpol - Obstacle 1 at Jimmy Kimmel show in 2003.

This song used to be my favorite when I was 15 years old and has been one of my favorites since then.
The drums, bass, Paul’s voice, everything was on point, what a great band!

I miss 2005...

I was feeling super nostalgic and going through all the old songs on my ipod. I got it for a gift back in 2005 and it felt like the most amazing technology in the whole damn world! I was suddenly given a giant brick where I could upload, literally, MILLIONS of songs! I still use it and have NEVER deleted a song from it - no matter how embarrassing. I’ve never needed to! I remember spending HOURS uploading all my favourite albums onto it so I could listen to it on the bus to school and be the coolest kid ever.

And what an era for music it was!! In the age where pop punk / emo rock was in its prime!! Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, My Chemical Romance, Panic! At The Disco, 30 Seconds to Mars, Lostprophets, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Madina Lake, The All American Rejects.. My list could go on forever.

I miss that time. Music felt like it was so amazing. And now, every song just sounds the same.
