none of them have the right to determine what happens to them

I’ve been seeing a man in my backyard for the past two nights

Story by reddit user Opinionson

To start I need to give some background:

I am a male who lives in relatively nice neighborhood

It’s your average small town run of the mill suburbs area with not a lot of people.

I am a college kid who’s home on break while my parents have gone away which doesn’t help at all.

I have a two story house

I do not have gun nor do I have any real weapons other than kitchen knives

I am not on any medication and I have no record of schizophrenia or any other mental illnesses

I barely have any relationships with my neighbors most of whom are elderly and the rest I have minimal contact with

I do not have any people in my neighborhood (that I know of) who have reasons to attack or harm me

Now, let’s get into what has been happening. About two nights ago I woke up very late in the night and I went to the bathroom to go take a shit. Now, my second story bathroom has a window that can see the entirety of my backyard. Directly behind it is a cul de sac which you can see directly into. There is a group of trees and pile of rocks and mulch that divides it. Usually I can see everything in my backroom without turning on my because lights from my neighbor’s house dimly lights the room.

Internal Conflict:  Five Conflicting Traits of a Likable Hero.

1.  Flaws and Virtues

I’m sure you’ve heard this before, but characters without flaws are boring.  This does not, as many unfortunate souls take it to mean, imply that good, kind, or benevolent characters are boring:  it just means that without any weaknesses for you to poke at, they tend to be bland-faced wish fulfillment on the part of the author, with a tendency to just sit there without contributing much to the plot.

For any character to be successful, they need to have a proportionate amount of flaws and virtues.

Let’s take a look at Stranger Things, for example, which is practically a smorgasbord of flawed, lovable sweethearts.

We have Joyce Byers, who is strung out and unstable, yet tirelessly works to save her son, even when all conventional logic says he’s dead;  We have Officer Hopper, who is drunken and occasionally callous, yet ultimately is responsible for saving the boy’s life;  We have Jonathan, who is introspective and loving, but occasionally a bit of a creeper, and Nancy, who is outwardly shallow but proves herself to be a strong and determined character.  Even Steve, who would conventionally be the popular jerk who gets his comeuppance, isn’t beyond redemption.

And of course, we have my beloved Eleven, who’s possibly the closest thing Stranger Things has to a “quintessential” heroine.  She’s the show’s most powerful character, as well as one of the most courageous.  However, she is also the show’s largest source of conflict, as it was her powers that released the Demogorgon to begin with.

Would Eleven be a better character if this had never happened?  Would Stranger Things be a better show?  No, because if this had never happened, Stranger Things wouldn’t even be a show.  Or if it was, it would just be about a bunch of cute kids sitting around and playing Dungeons and Dragons in a relatively peaceful town.

A character’s flaws and mistakes are intended to drive the plotline, and if they didn’t have them, there probably wouldn’t even be a plot.

So don’t be a mouth-breather:  give your good, kind characters some difficult qualities, and give your villains a few sympathetic ones.  Your work will thank you for it.

2.  Charisma and Vulnerability

Supernatural has its flaws, but likable leads are not one of them.  Fans will go to the grave defending their favorite character, consuming and producing more character-driven, fan-created content than most other TV shows’ followings put together.

So how do we inspire this kind of devotion with our own characters?  Well, for starters, let’s take a look at one of Supernatural’s most quintessentially well-liked characters:  Dean Winchester.

From the get-go, we see that Dean has charisma:  he’s confident, cocky, attractive, and skilled at what he does.  But these qualities could just as easily make him annoying and obnoxious if they weren’t counterbalanced with an equal dose of emotional vulnerability.

As the show progresses, we see that Dean cares deeply about the people around him, particularly his younger brother, to the point of sacrificing himself so that he can live.  He goes through long periods of physical and psychological anguish for his benefit (though by all means, don’t feel obligated to send your main character to Hell for forty years), and the aftermath is depicted in painful detail.

Moreover, in spite of his outward bravado, we learn he doesn’t particularly like himself, doesn’t consider himself worthy of happiness or a fulfilling life, and of course, we have the Single Man Tear™.

So yeah, make your characters beautiful, cocky, sex gods.  Give them swagger.  Just, y’know.  Hurt them in equal measure.  Torture them.  Give them insecurities.  Make them cry.

Just whatever you do, let them be openly bisexual.  Subtext is so last season.

3.  Goals For the Future and Regrets From the Past

Let’s take a look at Shadow Moon from American Gods.  (For now, I’ll have to be relegate myself to examples from the book, because I haven’t had the chance to watch the amazing looking TV show.)

Right off the bat, we learn that Shadow has done three years in prison for a crime he may or may not have actually committed.  (We learn later that he actually did commit the crime, but that it was only in response to being wronged by the true perpetrators.)

He’s still suffering the consequences of his actions when we meet him, and arguably, for the most of the book:  because he’s in prison, his wife has an affair (I still maintain that Laura could have resisted the temptation to be adulterous if she felt like it, but that’s not the issue here) and is killed while mid-coital with his best friend.

Shadow is haunted by this for the rest of the book, to the point at which it bothers him more than the supernatural happenings surrounding him.

Even before that, the more we learn about Shadow’s past, the more we learn about the challenges he faced:  he was bullied as a child, considered to be “just a big, dumb guy” as an adult, and is still wrongfully pursued for crimes he was only circumstantially involved in.

But these difficulties make the reader empathize with Shadow, and care about what happens to him.  We root for Shadow as he tags along with the mysterious and alternatively peckish and charismatic Wednesday, and as he continuously pursues a means to permanently bring Laura back to life.

He has past traumas, present challenges, and at least one goal that propels him towards the future.  It also helps that he’s three-dimensional, well-written, and as of now, portrayed by an incredibly attractive actor.

Of course (SPOILER ALERT), Shadow never does succeed in fully resurrecting Laura, ultimately allowing her to rest instead, but that doesn’t make the resolution any less satisfying.

Which leads to my next example…

4.  Failure and Success

You remember in Zootopia, when Judy Hopps decides she wants to be cop and her family and town immediately and unanimously endorse her efforts?  Or hey, do you remember Harry Potter’s idyllic childhood with his kindhearted, adoptive family?  Oh!  Or in the X-Files, when Agent Mulder presents overwhelming evidence of extraterrestrial life in the first episode and is immediately given a promotion?  No?

Yeah, me neither.  And there’s a reason for this:  ff your hero gets what they want the entire time, it will be a boring, two-dimensional fantasy that no one will want to read.

A good story is not about the character getting what they want.  A good story is about the character’s efforts and their journey.  The destination they reach could be something far removed from what they originally thought they wanted, and could be no less (if not more so) satisfying because of it.

Let’s look at Toy Story 3, for example:  throughout the entire movie, Woody’s goal is to get his friends back to their longtime owner, Andy, so that they can accompany him to college.  He fails miserably.  None of his friends believe that Andy was trying to put them in the attic, insisting that his intent was to throw them away.  He is briefly separated from them as he is usurped by a cute little girl and his friends are left at a tyrannical daycare center, but with time and effort, they’re reunited, Woody is proven right, and things seem to be back on track.

Do his efforts pay off?  Yes – just not in the way he expected them to.  At the end of the movie, a college-bound Andy gives the toys away to a new owner who will play with them more than he will, and they say goodbye.  Is the payoff bittersweet?  Undoubtedly.  It made me cry like a little bitch in front of my young siblings.  But it’s also undoubtedly satisfying.

So let your characters struggle.  Let them fail.  And let them not always get what they want, so long as they get what they need.

5.  Loving and Being Loved by Others

Take a look back at this list, and all the characters on it:  a gaggle of small town kids and flawed adults, demon-busting underwear models, an ex-con and his dead wife, and a bunch of sentient toys.  What do they have in common?  Aside from the fact that they’re all well-loved heroes of their own stories, not much.

But one common element they all share is they all have people they care about, and in turn, have people who care about them.

This allows readers and viewers to empathize with them possibly more than any of the other qualities I’ve listed thus far, as none of it means anything without the simple demonstration of human connection.

Let’s take a look at everyone’s favorite caped crusader, for example:  Batman in the cartoons and the comics is an easy to love character, whereas in the most recent movies (excluding the splendid Lego Batman Movie), not so much.

Why is this?  In all adaptions, he’s the same mentally unstable, traumatized genius in a bat suit.  In all adaptions, he demonstrates all the qualities I listed before this:  he has flaws and virtues, charisma and vulnerability, regrets from the past and goals for the future, and usually proportionate amounts of failure and success.

What makes the animated and comic book version so much more attractive than his big screen counterpart is the fact that he does one thing right that all live action adaptions is that he has connections and emotional dependencies on other people.

He’s unabashed in caring for Alfred, Batgirl, and all the Robins, and yes, he extends compassion and sympathy to the villains as well, helping Harley Quinn to ultimately escape a toxic and abusive relationship, consoling Baby Doll, and staying with a child psychic with godlike powers until she died.

Cartoon Batman is not afraid to care about others.  He has a support network of people who care about him, and that’s his greatest strength.  The DC CU’s ever darker, grittier, and more isolated borderline sociopath is failing because he lacks these things.

And it’s also one of the reasons that the Lego Batman Movie remains so awesome.

God willing, I will be publishing fresh writing tips every week, so be sure to follow my blog and stay tuned for future advice and observations!

A single event changes the course of Yuuri’s life, throwing him into a bitter rivalry with Viktor Nikiforov that spans across his entire skating career. But as the years go on, rivalry and hatred begin to develop into something very different and Yuuri doesn’t seem to be able to stay away, no matter how hard he tries. Hatred and love are two sides of the same coin and even though everything changes, some things are still meant to be. Oh, man, do these boys not communicate their feelings! Seriously one of the best fics I have ever read in ANY fandom. Love this fic so much.

somebodylost-chan  asked:

I'd like to ask, how do you know when fight/smut scenes are necessary? Or how to make them effective & not simply as fanservice or just for word count? Usually, I find myself skimming through fight scenes as a reader, bored. As a writer, I'm inclined to just 'fade to black' and imply stuff at the next chapters. I'm not really a fight/smut-scene writer, even though my characters know & need to fight. Thanks for keeping this blog. :D

A good fight scene (and a good smut scene for that matter) always works in the service of the narrative. It works toward the cohesive big picture.

From an entertainment standpoint, violence is boring.

You need your audience invested in the characters participating in the violence, in the actions and events leading up to the fight, in the aftermath and how this will effect the character’s overall goals.

In a narrative context, if you’re bored during a fight scene or a sex scene it’s because the build up to that moment failed. The scene itself may also have failed. However, your foundation is what makes your story sing.

Think of a story like building blocks. You’re playing Jenga with your reader on a homemade house, they’re slowly pulling out the pieces and you’re betting you built your blocks well enough to withstand scrutiny. You’ve got to keep them interested long enough to get to the end before the whole thing comes tumbling down.

A fight sequence which works in concert with it’s narrative is enjoyable, doesn’t overstay it’s welcome, and ultimately works to build up the story it’s telling. Fighting isn’t fighting, you see. Combat is a form of problem solving, the fight itself is an expression of the character’s individuality. Everything we’ve been learning about them, their goals, and their behaviors are being put in a pressure cooker and dialed up.

You should be learning about the character as the fight progresses, the fight working on multiple levels in concert with its narrative to get the story where it needs to go. Often, a first fight is like an establishing shot in film. You get a feel for who this character is when under pressure, who they are. Peril can be a great way to get the audience invested, but its up to the author to prove why they should.

Poor fight sequences don’t tell you anything. They’re there to establish the character as capable of fighting but don’t even do that because their concept of combat is generic.

The combatants aren’t individuals expressing themselves, the fight isn’t proving anything except fighting, it doesn’t have meaning except for its attempts to prove the narrative’s poor concept of badassery. This often happens with no regard for the setting’s rules, the aftermath consequences, what the character’s actions will effect in the long run.

It doesn’t mean anything and, while violence is shocking and terrifying in real life, in fiction violence has to mean more than just an exchange of blows.

How many times have you read a book where several mooks show up to get their ass kicked by the protagonist? They limp off at the end and while they’re often in a perfect position to be seen again due to their connections, we never do.

In even just a moderately competent narrative, those same mooks are characters. We’ll see them again in bit roles. They’ll play a role, either to help or hurt later as an aftermath consequence of the protagonist’s earlier actions. These are callback characters we can use to remind the audience of what happened previously in the narrative, and offer up some catharsis.

In a really well written scene, these mooks serve an important purpose when it comes to establishing the protagonist’s character in a quick snapshot. Like the moderately competent character, they come back later to the aid or the detriment of the protagonist. The mooks’ response actions are a direct result of their encounter with the character, often acting as an inciting incident. The protagonist suffers direct consequences as a result of their actions, whether its injury, loss, or the attention of the villain which causes them to lose something. In these fight scenes, you can see the story’s trajectory because it acts as another way to get to know the hero, the secondary characters, the tertiary characters, and whoever else is participating. It’s working on five different levels.

What you often see in a good fight sequence, whether it’s in a written medium or film, is the culmination of a great deal of hard work on the part of the author. A smut sequence is a reward, it’s a way to pay off on the reader’s investment in the relationship between these two characters and the narrative’s investment in them. It doesn’t matter if that’s hardcore sex, or a Victorian hand touch, or a knockout blow to the jaw, the end result is the same. It’s entertaining, satisfying, and even cathartic.

A poor sex scene is just dolls bumping bits. A poor fight scene is just dolls trading blows. Nothing occurs, nothing happens, there’s none of the underlying satisfaction or catharsis in the outcome. You don’t have any investment, no consequences, it overstays its welcome and tells you nothing about the characters.

You’ve no reason to care, so you don’t.

As a reader, you don’t owe a writer attention when reading their work. They’ve got to earn it. If they aren’t, then it may be that the story isn’t for you and that’s okay. Take into account your tastes,

It takes practice to choreograph a fun fight scene. Writing sex and violence is mostly about learning to find your limits (i.e. what you’re comfortable with writing), and overcoming embarrassment. Determine the difference between need and want.

Are you avoiding writing these scenes because you’re scared of being bad at them or because they just don’t interest you?

These are two very different issues, and it’s easy to hide from the first behind the second. Be honest with yourself. If it is fear, then don’t give into it. The easy solution if you’re afraid of being bad at something is to practice. Start looking critically at the media you consume, when you start to get bored during a fight scene or a sex scene, when you want to skip ahead, ask yourself, “why?”. Check out the sequences and stories where this doesn’t happen, and try to figure out the differences between the two.

When it comes to the mechanics of both violence and sex, the more you learn the better off you’ll be at writing it. The more you practice writing violence/sex/romance then the better you’ll be. Like with everything, it’ll probably be pretty terrible in the beginning but the more you practice, the better you get. Writing itself is a skill, but its also a lot of sub-skills built in underneath the surface. Being good at dialogue doesn’t mean you’ll be good at action, having a knack for great characterization doesn’t mean you’ll be good at writing setting description. Putting together great characters doesn’t mean you’ll automatically be good at worldbuilding.

Don’t be too hard on yourself.

All it takes to figure out whether or not the time to fight is right is by listening to your gut.

Remember, the best scenes are based in narrative cohesion and emotional investment. They’re a pay off in and of themselves for your audience, dessert after dinner. They aren’t the meat and potatoes. If you set out to just write a fight scene or write a smut scene then it’ll get gratuitous. Then the focus is on the fight or the sex itself, hangs entirely on their shoulders, and you’ve just upped the ante for how entertaining you need to be.

It’s not “how do I write a fight scene”, it’s “how did my characters get to this point and why are they fighting”. If you start from a character place, it gets easier. The same is true with romance. “How do my characters participate in a romance (sex or not)”.

Make it about the individuals, that’s when it really gets fun.

And, if you get too stuck, try writing fight scenes with characters who don’t know much about how to fight. Sometimes, it’s easier to get into it when you begin at the beginning. There’s a lot less pressure convincing an audience with a character who knows nothing than one at the top of their field.

There’s a lot less stress about “is this right?” when you’re trying to get a feel for the flow if you’re dealing with a character who doesn’t know jack shit. Fight scenes with characters who know nothing can also be really, really, really fun. They’re wild, improvisational frenzies where all you have is the character sorting through their alternative, non-fighting skills trying to figure out how to survive.

Believe it or not, this will help you because you don’t get to cheat with the idea that your character already knows what they’re doing when you don’t. It’ll help you tap into the character, seeing scenarios from their perspectives, and writing to that instead of “generic fight scene”. When you’re unsure, characters who know nothing about the subject matter they’re engaging in but still have to engage are great. They teach you how to write from the standpoint and perspective of the individual. You need those skills just as much when writing characters who are professionals or at the top of their field.

If you don’t think you can write an interesting fight sequence with a neophyte, then that might be a part of the problem. A character doesn’t need to be good at something to be entertaining. A smut sequence where everyone’s fumbling, knocking into each other, embarrassed, stuck in their clothing, cheesy, corny, and laughing can be just as fun (if not more so and more honest) than the ones that generally get envisioned.

For me, good is entertaining and the entertainment is based in humanity but you need to define “good” for yourself in your own writing. Be honest with yourself about your fears and you’ll find a way to bridge yourself to the kind of writing you want to be doing.

Freeing yourself of your own internalized preconceived notions will help a lot, and produce stories that are way more fun.

Secrets Out {Part 1} {Part 2} {Part 3} {Part 4} {Part 5}

When you made your way to their dorm later that day with the hat that you had taken, you were nervous to say the least. You wanted to ignore that gut feeling you had yesterday. ‘I’m just being paranoid’ you said to yourself quietly ‘they’re my best friends they wouldn’t just do anything to jeopardize that’ you kept reassuring yourself.

When you got to their dorm. you placed the hat on the countertop closest to you and right away you heard whispers, you couldn’t make out exactly what they were saying but from the words you did hear, you knew it sounded somewhat serious? When you closed the front door to get their attention it immediately went quiet. You fought yourself so hard to not overthink it, you crossed it out of your mind. Gone and forgotten.

You walked in to where they were all sitting, and sat in between Jungkook and Jin, you didn’t know how to explain it but it felt different, the whole atmosphere changed, Jungkook felt uncomfortable around you and Namjoon seemed to have sat straighter when you sat down and you saw it. Remember that pit in your stomach from yesterday? Well it was back and deeper than ever, you wanted to bring it up but you couldn’t seem to find the words and there was an awkward silence before Taehyung stood up making everyone jump a bit. “hey y/n! Let’s go play video games!” “tae-” you couldn’t finish your sentence before Taehyung pulled you up and dragged you to the living room where all the video games were. Taehyung got your mind off everything happening around you, but those slight moments where you would look around to see Namjoon, Jin, and Yoongi standing in the back whispering amongst themselves made you sink back into the depressing state where you question everything. Taehyung quickly picked up on your pauses and brought you back to the games. You felt him trying so hard to make you happy and get your mind off it, he knew about what was going on and he was trying to distract you?

Jimin came into the room being his giddy self but you felt it was forced. Was he forcing himself to be happy around you? why would he do that? Jungkook ignored you at almost all cost, something was eating at him and you were determined to find out what it was. What have they all been hiding? Usually you wouldn’t be afraid to speak up, ask them, but now it seemed as you were the source of the problem. You excused yourself to the bathroom to pick yourself up. when you came out, you must have been really quiet because none of the boys seemed to have heard you. Before you turned into the living room you heard voices you stayed behind the wall determined to find out what they were talking about, how you could fix it. “hyung I really can’t take this anymore every time I look at y/n I feel like crying” you recognized it as Jungkooks voice. “Jungkook you can’t say anything, she’ll be so hurt if we told her” a voice you heard as Namjoons said. “what we did was cruel and I’m also hurt we did that but why now Jungkook? Why suddenly after all this time you feel like you need to tell her now?” “Jin hyung please see where I’m coming from, I like y/n more than just a friend, but I can’t ask her out knowing what we did” Jungkook said he sounded as if he was so close to crying. “guys shut up y/n…” jimin said quietly. You’ve been spotted. You just stood there almost frozen. What have they done that was so bad? You’re going through all these years you’ve been friends with them in your mind. Wondering what has been happening behind your back.

They knew about your problems with trust and ‘friends’ in the past, they knew how you overthink everything, they knew about your anxiety, but it didn’t seem to matter anymore. “y/n…I’m-” Jungkook mumbled. “I don’t know what you did or what it has to do with me but you better tell me… now!” you were angry. That pit in your stomach seemed to have dropped to your feet. Your mind racing with thoughts. “y/n I think you should sit down” Jin said softly following a mumbling in agreement from Jiimin, and Hoseok. You didn’t know what they did but you felt like crying again, you felt like your world was falling apart. Your surroundings turning dark. you sat down in front of them analyzing each of their faces.

Jungkook, Taehyung, and Namjoon looking like at any second they would burst out in tears more than you were, Jin and

Yoongi just look worried like they were thinking about what you were going to do and not having a conclusion. Hoseok is clearly upset with himself he looks like he’s mentally punching himself, he has that triangle mouth that appears when something is really upsetting him. What was going on? Why are they acting like this? What did I do? What happened? Can I fix this? Shit. You were breathing fast while not breathing at all. The silence was painful you were losing your patience. “well someone speak!” you said loudly making them all jump. You looked around once more and all of them seem to be either in tears or near tears. Jin took a deep breath, he grabbed your hand as if to make sure you won’t walk away. “y/n, we….”

Bruises On Another (part seven)

Prompt: Steve doesn’t know where they come from, and he isn’t exactly sure why they’re there. All he knows is that his body is littered in bruises, and there’s something different about them. They aren’t just bruises, and they certainly didn’t come from a trip in a step or clumsiness. No, Steve knows there’s more behind the marks that litter his body.

THIS IS A SERIES: one - two - three - four - five - six - seven - eight - finale

Pairing: Slow!Burn Steve x Reader

Warnings: marks, bruises, pain, physical abuse, force, sexual inclinations, etc. I mean no disrespect to anyone or to upset anyone, this story starts off rough but I can say that things will get better.

A/N: I hope you all enjoy this chapter as much as I enjoyed writing it. Send me a little comment in the ask section or leave it below on what you thought of this chapter. It doesn’t have to be long, I appreciate every single comment I receive and telling me just helps inspire me to write it more frequently.

Oh! And just to be clear, this derives from canon plot. While Nancy still broke up with Steve and the whole Halloween party still happened, the events with the demodog and everything doesn’t- mainly because it wouldn’t fit with how i’d like to take my story. So I hope you all don’t mind.

P.S. This a soulmate AU.

I will NO LONGER be adding anyone to the Tag’s List!

Steve stared at the disappearing figure of your father’s car, sighing heavily in thought. He hesitated in chasing after you, debating whether that really was the right decision. It almost seemed as if you didn’t want him to help you, but then Steve remembered the fear in your eyes when you’d screamed out in terror. He had you in his arms, you were safe and then suddenly you were just gone.

Steve had you- and in that one short moment he’d actually seen you smile. And then it just vanished.

You were afraid, Steve knew, and that’s why you pushed him away. The unknown- you didn’t know what would happen to you or him if Steve fought your father or had said something, so you’d pushed him away just like he’d seen you push everyone else away these past few days. Steve may have only known you for a short amount of time but that afternoon he felt as if he learned so much about you. The vulnerability in your eyes had broke his heart, your severe lack of confidence had rendered him speechless.

Steve didn’t know if the abuse had been happening your whole life or more recently, but none of it mattered. What your father has done to you has turned you into nothing, something to be used and abused. And Steve knew that you were more than that- everyone was more than that. You needed help, needed someone to guide you into the light and show you what love and care looked like.

And Steve wasn’t willing to let you suffer. Damn what would happen to him- damn if you hated him forever. Your father had seemed angry, angrier than Steve’d ever seen anyone else, and he wasn’t willing to let that pathetic excuse for a man lay one more hand on you.

Making his decision, he begun running towards his car. Steve wasted no time in opening his door, practically falling into the drivers seat and turning on the engine. He sped out of his parking spot, rushing to reach your house. You’d gotten a head start but he was determined to reach you before anything bad happen.

It wasn’t a long drive but to Steve it felt like forever, until finally he turned down the street of your house. You’d probably been home for a good ten to twenty minutes already and Steve felt his heart beating rapidly against his chest in fear of what your father had already managed to do to you. Once parked on the side of the road, Steve practically swung open his door and stepped out. He took quick steps and practically ran up the stairs to your porch, reaching your front door in seconds.

Steve could hear, even from his car, yelling from your father and soft cries that he could only assume came from you. He felt anger spike at his heart and his chest tighten in disgust at the man who pretended to be your father. Luckily for Steve, your father had left open the door and practically slamming it open, Steve stepped into the house.

It didn’t take him long to find you, and as he did your father swung his fist down directly smacking you in the face. You cried out in pain and Steve felt is eyes widen in surprise, before a sudden shock of pain ran through him. He gripped the same place your father had hit you, only on his own face in pain and let out a groan. Steve wondered why that one time it’d hurt, when none of the bruises that your father had inflicted on you had never hurt him.

But none of that mattered because the moment Steve recovered, he found both yours and your father’s eyes on him. He met yours, hating the pain behind them as you cried desperately. Though it almost seemed as if you were relieved at the sight of Steve, and Steve felt his soft eyes spike in anger as they met your fathers.

“Father!”

You groaned out in pain as your father practically kicked you into the house, falling to the ground with a loud thud. You spun around quickly, knowing your father was just behind you and watched with desperate eyes as he closed the door. The lights weren’t on in the house and you watched with despair as the door was shut and whatever light you had disappeared before your very own eyes. The dark had always scared you, but your fear of it had only grown when the abuse had started. “Father, please-”

“You whore!” Your father belted out, leaning over your body. You cried out in fear, crawling back as fast as you could. “Get up!” Knowing better than to delay, you rushed up so you were on your feet and held your head high as your father gripped you with a bruising force. “What were you doing with that boy?” Your father asked and you shook your head, about to explain. But before you could answer, he spoke; “I thought I told you to stay away from him.”

“I tried-”

He tightened his grip and you let out a groan as your jaw ached in pain. “Forty minutes late- forty minutes spent with that boy. Steve was it? Do you take me for a fool?”

“No,” you sobbed, shaking your head as best at you could. “No, please, father I didn’t mean to-”

“I don’t care!” Your father interrupted, roughly shoving your head away. You struggled to stay balanced, feeling your knees grow weak beneath you and your whole body shake. You felt like you might pass out, your ears ringing from the volume your father was speaking at. You should’ve stayed with Steve- you should’ve…

What did you do to deserve this?

“Dad please!” You haven’t called your father ‘dad’ in so long, the last time you had he’d beat you for not showing him enough respect. But you were so desperate to have your dad back, to have the father you once had- you’d try anything. “I’m sorry.” You cried out, feeling every bit of defiance leave you and all hope disappear. You just wanted your dad back.

“I’m not your dad.” Your father spat, his voice this time much more quiet. Your eyes widened upon his words and meeting his eyes, you tried to see through the blur of your tears. What did he mean?

Your father took a step forward and you flinched when his hand reached out towards you. “And you’re certainly not my daughter.” His hand moved towards your neck, grabbing ahold of the necklace you so dearly cared for. It felt like your heart stopped as he gripped it and time slowed down as you cried out, begging him not to touch it. “And you certainly aren’t hers.” Then before you knew it, the necklace was ripped from your neck, falling to the ground pathetically.

Time slowed as you watched it hit the ground. Falling to your knees, you grabbed the ruined necklace with shaky hands, not quite believing what had just happened.

“You killed her.”

You missed the door open and Steve step through as your father roughly grabbed the necklace and chucked it across the room. Then before you knew it there was a sharp pain radiating through your cheek and you were falling back, crying out in pain. It wasn’t until you heard a manlier cry, one that wasn’t your fathers, did you noticed Steve. And glancing up at him, you met his eyes with tears in your own.

He’d come…

Steve had come to help you-

Then his eyes left yours.

“You son of a bitch!” Steve bellowed out and took a step before you.

“You’re the boy who’s been-” Your father never got to finish his sentence before Steve punched him across the face so hard he stumbled back in surprise. It just so happened that as he stumbled back, he tripped over his own two feet in dizziness and fell to the ground. You watched with wide eyes, the tears seizing as he fell and his eyes closed in shock.

Then there was a hand gripping your arm, pulling you up. “Come on.” Steve’s soft voice filled your ears. “Come on, Y/N. I’ve got you- i’m not gonna let him hurt you anymore.” He pulled you up to your feet and begun leading you out the door. You didn’t fight him, your eyes staying glued to your fathers before you were suddenly outside and entering Steve’s car.

He set you in the passenger’s seat gently, buckling you up himself before making his way around to his own seat. The moment Steve sat in his car, he turned to you as your eyes stayed glued before you. Steve watched you, waiting for something to happen, but nothing ever did, and eventually you turned to meet his eyes.

“Y/N-”

“He was going to kill me.” You whispered, meeting Steve’s eye and Steve shook his head. What you said was true, he just didn’t know how to respond. “My father- my dad wanted to kill me.”

“It’ll be okay.” Steve reassured and you shook your head.

“How?”

“I’m taking you to the police.” Steve answered. “I’m taking you to the chief.”

Sooooooo I was thinking what would Shiro do if his s/o showed up to party in a sexy black dress just to get him back for spending so much time with Voltron P.s I love your Blog!

I like the way you think! I do love me some petty revenge.

“Hey Shiro! What are you up to today? Cause I was thinking–”

“I’m sorry, Y/N, I need to go over Voltron’s last battle and come up with some sort of game plan,” Shiro sighs and glowers at the screen in his hand, “We should have taken that Robeast out before it had that chance to knock us down. Maybe if I had had Lance and Hunk move us–” He’s talking more to himself now so you just cluck your tongue and walk away. Maybe next time.

You paced back and forth on the observation deck, growing increasingly agitated with every slowly passing minute. Seriously? He’s thirty minutes late! Where the hell was your boyfriend?!

You stop and loudly vent your frustration before storming storming towards the training deck. God help Shiro if he’s still training during date night because oh…he’s not here. None of the paladins are. So, clearly they finished?

You sigh and head towards the rooms. You can hear various showers running and the thought of scaring the crap out of Shiro while he’s showering brings a skip to your step. But when Shiro’s door opens, you can see him laying face first in bed with his armor still on. You deflate and let his door shut on its own. If he’s tired enough to sleep in his armor then there’s no point in waking him.

And so it keeps happening. Every time you think you finally get Shiro on his own he either has Voltron related business, extra training, or is passed out in places he shouldn’t be. It’s frustrating. It’s vexing. It’s starting to piss you off

Of course, you don’t think you’re more important than defending the universe from evil purple aliens but dammit, it hurts to be pushed aside so easily!

But tonight…oh-hoho, tonight you were going to get back at the Black Paladin.

You see, Allura, Coran, and Shiro have been in negotiations for the last week or so with the twin High Priestesses of Il’rea, who have long been fighting the Galra in their own quadrant of space. They’ve been highly successful; due to the combined power of Lady Arcadia’s tactics and Lady Selena’s bloodlust and frankly, Team Voltron needed help from people like them if there was any hope to defeat Prince Lotor.

Tonight, the whole planet was celebrating the new alliance in Voltron’s honor with a huge party. Food, music, pretty girls, pretty guys (just pretty people in general), and displays of power and magic promised to be a fun night.

But there was a small problem. The problem was, as Lance put it: “Those Priestesses are total babes! They could literally crack my skull between their thighs and I would die happy.” Whether he was on duty or not, Shiro was spending a lot of time with beautiful women that were not you and tonight was the night you were going to drag his attention back, Voltron and the Alliance be damned. Especially since it’s been a good two weeks since you two had some true alone time.

You smiled triumphantly at the sexy little black number hanging on the back of your door, ‘Watch Shiro ignore this.’

Shiro missed you. God, he missed you so much it started to hurt and the guilt he was carrying about temporarily pushing you aside to focus on Voltron was starting to haunt his nightmares. He was determined to fix it tonight. He was going to apologize for being a shit boyfriend, apologize for overworking himself, and apologize for making the love of his life feel like she no longer mattered to him.

Keith had made it a point to find Shiro tell him that last little tidbit last night. It hurt. It hurt so bad Shiro actually spent most of the night crying and beating himself up mentally for that one. He royally fucked up, and he knew it.

So when the shuttle carrying you and the Paladins arrived, his heart began racing and Shiro felt the telltale fluttering in his stomach that told him he was nervous. But there were only four bodies on that shuttle and none of them yours. Concerned, Shiro pulled Keith aside to speak to him in a low whisper, “Hey, Keith. Wh-where’s Y/N? Isn’t she coming?”

Keith pursed his lips and glared. Shiro dropped his hand from Keith’s arm and took a step back, caught off guard by the uncharacteristic hostility in his friend’s eyes. He waits and Keith looks away before clearing his throat, “She’s not coming. She said she has a migraine so she’s going to take advantage of a silent castle and sleep it off. She doesn’t want you there.” He walks away with a final glare, making sure to clip his shoulder against Shiro’s.

Shiro rubs his shoulder and glances towards the other paladins. He blanches as they quickly turn away to hide their glares. Crestfallen, Shiro swallows the lump in his throat and blinks back the tears that threaten to spill. He has a job to do tonight so he steels himself and turns around, stepping out of Takashi Shirogane - the failing boyfriend, and into Shiro - the Black Paladin and Leader of Voltron.

He doesn’t see Lance and Hunk sharing concerned glances as they wonder if they took their glares too far or Pidge and Keith giving each other a thumbs up. He also misses you slipping out of your hiding place in the pod and moving to the next hiding place, shoes in hand. Allura, who has been your silent partner in tonight’s shenanigans, gives you a wink as she steps in front of your new spot, further hiding you. Bless her. She’s just as petty as you are.

Parties.

There was a time in his life that Shiro once enjoyed a good party and the chance to get shit-faced drunk without a care in the world. Now his anxiety was acting up, telling him there were too many people, too many points of entry, too many chances for an assassin to sneak in, this is was just another chance to get Lance blow–no. No. He needs to stop. There’s no point in thinking like that.

God, he needed a drink.

Luckily, Il’rea has alcohol, or something like it, and Shiro grabs a glass from a passing waiter and downs it in one gulp. Much better.

He grabbed another drink with every intention of downing that one too but he was stopped when he saw you flitting through the crowd. But it couldn’t be you, you were in the castle. Right?

He drops the glass from his mouth and moves to follow what he swears was you. His searching is fruitless and Shiro gives it up as a bad job only a few minutes later. He was looking for a black dress in a sea of black and white with little variation. Why couldn’t the woman have been wearing a red dress? That would be so much easier!

Like Allura! Shiro could make her out easily since her dress started as a bright yellow and faded to a soft orange. She looked like an Earth sunset was easily the brightest person in the room. Shiro smiled as she laughed at some aristocrat’s joke, happy to finally see her so carefree after the stressful week they had. He wished he could be like that.

He watched for a few more moments and was about to turn away when Allura hooked her arm through the arms of another woman and they turned as one to move together. His heart stopped for a split second because he knows that face. He knows that face.

Where Allura was as radiant as the sun, there you were, looking like the human embodiment of the night. Your hair was pulled up and artfully messy, lips painted a deep purple to match purple eye shadow, the front of your black gown draped over you to deeply expose your breasts and Shiro swallowed when he saw the long beautiful silver necklace he found for you sitting innocently on your chest. The last time he saw it he was watching it shimmer and shine as it moved with every thrust of his hips against yours.

You looked like Sin. And when your eyes locked Shiro swore then and there to have you underneath him before the night was over. He continued watching with hungry eyes as Allura twirled you two around and revealed the (pretty much non-existent) back of your dress and he changed it to within the hour. The wink you gave him over the shoulder as you disappeared into the crowd gave him the fuel he needed.

But it wasn’t that easy. Every time he got close to you, Hunk or Lance would whisk you away for a dance and pass you off to someone high ranking enough in the Il’rean hierarchy that Shiro knew it would cause tension if he just cut in, so he was forced to wait.

And wait.

And wait. Prowling like a panther at the edge of the dancing crowd, waiting for his chance to snatch you up.

Eventually there was a lull in the music and Shiro used it to beeline towards you, determined to have you in his arms and screaming his name in one of the smaller rooms next door. But he was stopped by Keith shoving a plate of food in his hands with a cheeky grin. “You haven’t eaten all night. Here. It’s delicious.”

“I-Uh…What? Oh,” he looked down at the plate just long enough to loose you in the crowd again and he cursed his luck. And his crew, the shits. He could spy Pidge up on the balcony, no doubt keeping an eye on the situation and instructing each of the Paladins to intercept him every time he got too close. He should have known they’d be in on this. They do like to stir up trouble.

Well. There would be no getting to you this way. Not with Pidge directing them. And he couldn’t just run up there like a psychopath and stop her. She’d see him. He popped some of the food Keith brought him into his mouth and saluted Pidge. If this was his punishment, it was his punishment. But he could spoil their fun by giving in. His own private revenge on his crew for their mutiny.

“Surprise, surprise. You didn’t come for me,” you sigh as you lean against the balcony entryway. Shiro turns towards you with a bittersweet smile, “Would you have let me?” He leans against the balcony, doing his best to appear nonchalant even though his heart was hammering in his chest because there you are! His beautiful girlfriend! The light of his life! The woman he would willingly risk life and limb for! Dear god, he could see how pissed you were.

You fake thinking for a moment, making sure to bring a finger to your lips, just to enjoy the way Shiro’s eyes darken at such an innocent gesture. “No, not really. I was enjoying myself soooo much. I didn’t want to distract myself with my significant other.” Your pointed glare hits home and Shiro drops his gaze to the floor. You do nothing but wait, letting his shame settle in.

You soften as his shoulders drop and he slowly walks towards you, frightened that with each step closer he moves, you will bolt. You both release the breaths you didn’t know you were holding as Shiro slowly brings his forehead to yours. His large hands feel so right as snakes them around your waist and just holds you, taking a moment just to savor you in his arms before he can gather the courage to speak.

“I’m so sorry, Y/N. I didn’t mean to push you away. I didn’t intend to make you feel like you don’t matter to me, because you do. You are–I love you,” you gasp at his confession and the urge to scream ‘I love you too!’ is almost to much to bear but Shiro isn’t done talking, so you bite your tongue. Literally. “I made a mistake. I need to try harder. I will try harder. For you and Voltron.”

The kiss he gives you is so tender and so sweet it nearly brings tears to your eyes. You pull him down for another harder kiss as he pulls away, wrapping your arms around his neck for leverage before pulling away enough to mumble against his lips, “You beautiful idiot. I love you so much but you’re too hard on yourself. I just…I missed you.”

You buried yourself into Shiro’s chest and squeezed him tight, enjoying the way his arms tightened against you and the gentle way he nuzzles into your hair. He was so warm and comforting and you couldn’t believe that you had gone nearly two weeks without this. These were the moments you lived for: domesticity in a universe at war.

“I’m going to fuck you in that dress the moment we get back to the castle,” his voice is low and gravely in your ear and you shivered. Moment ruined.

“I’ve had to watch you prance around in that sorry excuse for a dress all night. Did you even see how much people wanted you?” A moan escapes as Shiro mouths directly against your ear and he moves his cool metal hand up your exposed back. You can feel his half-hard erection against your hip and he grins wickedly against your ear as he lightly rocks against you, “You naughty thing, I’m going to–”

“Sorry to interrupt,” you and Shiro jerk apart as Lady Arcadia glides by, her sister in tow, “but might I trouble you to use one of the rooms down the hall? As lovely as public displays of affection are, surely you two would enjoy privacy?” They quirk twin eyebrows and smirk, gliding away the way they came.

You adjust your dress and hair, thankful that you were interrupted before anything else started. You share a bashful look with Shiro and clasp hands before re-joining the party; putting a pause on your libidos to play ambassadors. There would be time to play later tonight.

Title:  What You Need

Summary: After a stressful review meeting Draco thinks maybe its about time Harry were honest with himself.

Word Count: 1977

Read below or HERE on my AO3

Draco can feel the tension in his body twisting and turning, slowly ebbing away as he and Harry leave Robards’ office in a hurry.  He’d been dying to get out of that meeting from the moment it had begun this morning.

It had been a mandatory review of all of their cases from the last six months.  Apparently the head of the department had decided that no one was exempt from the intense scrutiny they’d just faced over the last two hours.  Hell he had expected it to be brutal based on the chatter around the Auror office from those who had already faced their own review, but even he couldn’t have anticipated the kinds of questions they would ask.

“And do you feel your relationship with Mr. Potter is completely professional?”

“Mr. Malfoy, have your feelings for Mr. Potter ever gotten in the way of your ability to make an unbiased call in the field?”

“Mr. Potter, there is a history of rash decisions in your case file.  Do you believe yourself of sound mind and judgement in the heat of the moment?”

“Gentleman, have you ever had more than a professional working relationship with your Auror partner?”

They’d claimed the questions were standard, and would be the same for all partners regardless of gender or sexual orientation.  A necessary precaution they’d called it.  But Draco had felt his insides churning at the questions, his mind over run with thoughts and desires which he usually worked very hard to keep below the surface.  He had answered them with a cool and calm countenance that had betrayed nothing of his true feelings.

Harry on the other hand had begun to get agitated the second they’d questioned his personal life.

“I’m a damn good Auror and what I do off the clock is none of your business.”

They were partners.  Friends.  And yet Harry had bristled at the insinuation they were more, refusing to answer the questions which Draco was sure only made things about a hundred times worse.

By the time they finally reach their office Harry is in a right mood, ripping his Auror robes off and flinging them on the chair in the corner.  He takes his glasses off next, setting them on the desk and rubbing his face with both hands.  He looks tired, stressed.  It’s not the first time Draco has wondered why Harry is still an Auror.  He’s good at it, damn good in fact,  His reflexes are excellent and his experience with Dark Wizards invaluable.  But even after three years working together Draco can see that he still has trouble taking orders; he’s brash and though his instinct are usually right he follows them blindly.  Mostly though, despite how good he is at his job he just doesn’t seem happy.

Draco watches with curiosity as Harry just drops to the floor, as if he truly cannot take another moment of anything, running his hands through his hair before laying down.  He feels guilty for the thoughts that run through his mind, the way he can’t take his eyes off the strength in Harry’s forearms, or the space between his legs.  H knows he shouldn’t be thinking those things when Harry is clearly struggling.  But the questions had been too much, had brought too much to the forefront of his min,  and though he might not be showing it outwardly Draco feels just as close to exploding as Harry looks.

“Do you regret it?” Harry asks quite suddenly, startling Draco out of his thoughts.

“Regret what?”

“Becoming an Auror?”

Of all the things Draco thought the other man might say that is not one of them.  He thinks back on the brutal years in training, of the distrust and harassment he had faced when he first joined and the hard work and determination it had taken to get anyone to take him seriously. He thinks back to when they had first become partners and the way they had argued and clashed just as intensely as they had in school, until one day after a bad case when they’d both ended up at the same bar and gotten pissed after work together.  The next day he couldn’t remember what either one of them had said or done, and truth be told he still has no idea if Harry ever remembered because they never discussed it, but things had changed after that.   They had begun working as a team, and before Draco had known what was happening they weren’t just two people being forced to work together they were partners; a well functioning team that both trusted and relied on one another.

He looks at Harry now, sprawled out on the floor looking tense and unhappy, something Draco now knows he hides from almost everyone else and he wonders what it means that Harry trusts him with the ugliest sides of himself so implicitly.

Draco doesn’t usually stop to think about his own feelings, not after having worked so hard to push them away.  He regrets many things in his life, but becoming an Auror is not one of them, not when it has led him this.  Whatever this might be.

“No, I don’t.”

Harry’s shoulders tighten and Draco wonders when exactly he learned to read the other man so well.  He looks angry, at himself Draco thinks, and guilty.

“You know its ok to hate your job.”

Harry jerks his head up in surprise, his brow crinkling in confusion.  “But you just said-”

“I know perfectly well what I said.  I answered your question honestly.  You just didn’t ask the right question.”  Draco crosses his legs, leaning back in his chair and watching Harry throw his hands in the air before dropping his head back to the ground with an audible thud.

“Well what the bloody fuck was the right question?”

Draco can’t help it, he laughs.  Harry shoots him an angry look.

“I’m so glad you find this so funny.”

“Always so fucking melodramatic, Potter.”  Draco knows exactly what to say to get a rise out of him and Harry is on his feet in seconds.

“That meeting was a load of shit.  We’re the best Aurors in the department and they know it.”

“Are you angry because they questioned your work ethic or because they questioned our relationship?”  Draco says, and is surprised at how good it feels to say something.  To acknowledge them in some way, even if they have no idea what they are.

Harry opens his mouth to speak and then stops as if he’s thought better of it.  He suddenly looks so unsure, and so much younger than his twenty seven years.  He rubs his hands on his shirt almost unconsciously and just stares at Draco.

“Do you want to know what I think?” Draco asks, rising from his seat and closing the small distance between them.  He can practically feel the tension in Harry’s body, the air nearly crackling with it.  “I think you’re tired of all of it; of the protocol and the bureaucracy and the phoniness.  You’ve spent your entire fucking life saving everyone else and being who they needed to be and I think you’ve finally had enough.  Today.  Right now, Harry.  You’ve had enough.”

Harry sucks in a deep breath, and Draco has no idea what to expect because he knows he’s crossing that forbidden line that says neither one of them will acknowledge real feelings but he doesn’t care because he can’t stand another day of pretending either.

“Aren’t you tired of being what everyone else needs you to be?  Don’t you want to get what you need for once?”

Harry licks his lips, still unable to move from his spot as if his feet have been spelled to the floor.  “And what exactly is it you think I need?”

Fuck it Draco thinks, he’s come this far already.  Instead of saying anything he reaches out, his hands sliding into Harry’s hair and gently urging him closer.  He presses his lips to Harry’s, afraid for a moment he’s made a mistake and gone too far but then Harry is nearly clawing at him, his hands grabbing onto Draco so tightly it almost hurts.

The kiss is almost brutal, desperate, and so fucking good Draco stops trying to hold it in and just moans into Harry’s mouth which only spurs the other man on even more.  Draco’s hand is sliding down Harry’s back when there is a knock on the door and they spring apart just seconds before the door flies open.  It’s Robards.  Draco has never wanted to curse someone as badly as he does right in this moment.  His heart aches and he just knows the moment has been ruined, that this interruption has shattered whatever fragile thing they were beginning.

“Listen, Potter, Malfoy, about before I-”

“I quit!” Harry shouts and Draco’s mouth falls open in the most un-Malfoy like display of shock he’s ever shown.

“Excuse me, Potter, you can’t quit!”

Draco doesn’t even look at Robards, because he can’t take his eyes off Harry.  Harry looks giddy, euphoric even, and it reminds Draco of the way Potter used to look after he’d caught the Golden Snitch.

“Yes, Sir, I can.  I quit.  I hate my job,” he shouts, and then he begins to laugh.  Robards looks like he thinks Harry might have lost his mind.  “God that felt good to say out loud.  I FUCKING HATE MY JOB!” he screams even louder, making several of the other Aurors peek their heads down the hallway and through the open door to their office.

Robards holds his hand up to silence him but Harry is paying him no mind.

“I hate the paperwork and the assignments and the bloody protocol that makes no sense sometimes and I hate the awful hours.  Fuck I hate everything about it except that I get to work with you,” Harry says, turning to look at Draco with a look so pure in intensity Draco is glad he’s sitting down already.

“And what about you, Malfoy?” Robards asks, sounding equal parts confused and helpless.

“Oh I quit too. I detest this job.”

“I thought you said you didn’t regret becoming an Auror?” Harry asks suddenly, as if he’s forgotten Robards is just standing there watching them.

Draco shrugs, almost nonchalantly.  “I don’t regret it, not at all.  But I still fucking hate this job.”

“Then why don’t you regret it?” he asks, and Draco wonders how it’s possible that other man really doesn’t see it.

“Because you oblivious idiot, I’m in love with you.  Pretty sure if you jumped out this window right now I’d follow you like a lovesick puppy.  It’s absolutely pathetic,” he answers in the most self deprecating tone possible.

“Oh.”

“Yes, Harry.”

“Well, that’s rather good then isn’t it.  Because I’m in love with you.”

“Right, well I’ll just be leaving now,” Robards mumbles awkwardly before shutting the door behind him.  Neither Harry nor Draco pay him any attention.

“So, before….when you said you knew what I needed,” Harry begins to say, crossing the room until he’s standing directly in front of Draco with his hand outstretched.  “What if you showed me instead.”

“I can’t think of anything I’d like more,“ Draco answers, taking Harry’s hand in his own and thinking that maybe what they both want and need might just be the same things.

2x08 coda because so much happened and my boys need to talk

Once the others have finally poured out of his home, taking at least part of the nervous energy still lingering against the walls with them, it takes Magnus a few seconds to locate Alec and he feels a twinge of anxiety when he realizes that he’s left the safety of the loft in favor of the balcony. Even knowing he’s undone the spell that allowed his guests’ greatest fears and insecurities to fester, the thought of Alexander alone up there makes him vaguely nauseous, images of Alec’s graceful fall too fresh in his mind, too painful still, for him to bear it.

If he had been a few seconds late…

But Alec is nowhere near the ledge now. He’s sitting on the sofa, forearms resting on his thighs and head in his hands, fingers tensed and angry where they’re gripping his hair.

It’s been a long evening for all of them, upsetting at its best and terrifying at its worst, and Magnus wishes there was an easy way to approach this, a simple phrase that could make it all better for both of them.

He makes his way the couch carefully, steps loud enough to alert Alec of his presence, before letting his body drop heavily next to him. He links his fingers together between his legs, resisting the urge to touch Alec, to force him to look up so he can try and read his face. Instead, Magnus presses his thigh against Alec’s in what he hopes is a comforting manner. So much happened in so little time and he has no idea where he should even start.

He’s still trying to figure it out when Alec speaks first.

“I’m not going to let anything happen to you,” he says fiercely into his hands.

“Alec-”

“I’m not,” he repeats and Magnus knows what’s hiding underneath, the guilt and anger of all the times Alec has felt he failed the people who matter the most to him.

“Hey,” Magnus says instead of replying, putting a careful hand on Alec’s body, adding a hint of magic to his touch, warmth and safety against the broadness of his back. “I know what you’re trying to say but that’s not on you.”

“Yes, it is,” Alec argues, body tense like the string of his bow.

“It’s on all of us,” Magnus argues, keeping his voice calm despite the anger boiling in his veins. “Shadowhunters, Downworlders…. we’re all going to pay for Valentine’s actions if he’s not stopped.”

He still can’t quite believe Clary kept her secrets for so long when they all should have been working together to stop Valentine’s plan.

“I know,” Alec replies, leaning into Magnus’ body for a second before taking his hands off his face and straightening his back. “I know that, but that’s not…” he sighs, frustrated. “That’s not what I meant.”

It’s been a long time since Magnus has been on the other side of such fervent protectiveness and he shivers a little at the intensity of Alec’s determination, mind flickering to the charm he now carries everywhere.

“The thought of losing you…” Alec continues, closing his eyes and shaking his head like he’s trying to convince himself that saying whatever he wants to say is okay, is allowed. “I just found you,” he says softly, trying again. “And thinking about what might happen to you…. it’s just… unbearable.”

“Well now you know how I felt, seeing you out there,” Magnus replies seriously, gesturing towards the ledge, heart beating faster at the sound of Alec’s sincerity. “And I think you know I can easily take care of myself.”

“I know,” Alec sighs. His eyes wander to the ledge for a second and he grimaces, clearly uncomfortable at the thought of talking about it, but aware that he can’t say nothing, that Magnus won’t be satisfied by that. “I’m sorry if I scared you,” he whispers. “The spell messed with my head, it’s true but I.. I don’t… I don’t want to talk about Clary or Jocelyn. Please.”

Magnus waits for a second, looking into Alec’ anguished face, his closed eyes and defeated posture, and he wishes he could drop it, he really does.

“You’re not weak Alexander.”

Alec flinches, trying to move away from Magnus’ body but he’s too quick, moving both of his hands to grip Alec’s shoulders.

“Letting a demon in,” Magnus whispers directly into Alec’s ear, “feeling consumed by guilt… even failure; none of those things make you weak.”

“Magnus,” Alec begs shakily.

There are things magic can’t fix, memories that burn deeply within Alec’s core that only time can soothe and no matter how powerless Magnus feels, he has to accept it.

“Okay,” he whispers before kissing Alec’s shoulder, right next to where his thumb is still digging into the flesh. He lets go slowly, starting to move away from Alec when he feels him grabbing his hand.

“Thanks,” Alec says, voice small but grateful. “And I’m sorry about tonight.”

“That wasn’t your fault.”

“I mean about my mother… and Max,” Alec says with a gulp, eyes wide and sad.

Magnus smiles softly. “I knew what to expect from Maryse when I agreed to throw this party, Alexander. And Max is just a curious child.”

“Yes but…” Alec hesitates for a second before inhaling deeply and exhaling. “I’m still sorry if he made you feel uncomfortable,” he says after a few seconds, reaching up to stroke Magnus’ temple with a few calloused fingers, stopping in the corner of his eye.

Magnus feels his smile slipping and he wishes he could hold on to it, wishes he could pretend for a few more seconds, but he feels exposed, cracked open, and Alec has already taken a peek at the rawness inside.

“I’m more worried I made you uncomfortable,” Magnus admits in a small voice.

“What?” Alec frowns, looking sincere and offended and isn’t that the most incredible thing. “No, no. You could never make me uncomfortable,” he says vehemently. “Not for that,” he adds softly, leaning in to press a tender kiss in the corner of Magnus’ eyes.

Magnus leans into the touch, appreciating the warmth of Alec’s body against his, the warmth of his reassuring words.

“A lot of people have been,” he admits and he wasn’t planning on saying that until it slipped right out of his mouth. He can feel Alec exhale against his skin, heated and tickling.

“I can’t imagine how,” Alec replies and Magnus turns his head to face him, letting the glamour drop easily. Alec gasps in response, a tiny thing that doesn’t sound disgusted or overwhelmed. “You’re so…” he smiles, cheeks reddening.

“So what?” Magnus asks, curious now that Alec’s face is painted with embarrassment.

“Kind,” he replies like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

“Oh,” Magnus says in a small voice and he has been called many things in his lifetime but he’s rarely been called kind, even if he’s always tried to be.

“Clever,” Alec continues, hazel eyes bright with intensity. “Beautiful. Powerful.”

“Alright,” Magnus chuckles, putting a hand on Alec’s chest to try and stop him.

“I just mean…. that it’s another part of you and there’s isn’t a part of you I haven’t liked so far.”

“Oh Alexander,” Magnus teases, a hint self-deprecating, “that will come.”

“And I’m looking forward to it. To get to know all the parts of you that fit with me and all the parts that don’t… and all the ways we’re gonna work to be together despite those.”

Alec clears his throat and lets his gaze wander to where their legs are still touching. He starts fidgeting like maybe he didn’t mean to reveal this much and Magnus is almost glad that he broke their eye contact because it gives him the time to blink a couple of times and stop himself from crying.

There are so many things that Magnus could say, so many feelings intertwining in his chest. Instead, he grabs the lapel of the suit he carefully chose for Alec and drags him into a bruising kiss, swallowing the way Alec sighs and moans so beautifully.

They’re still pretty lucky, despite it all.

basketball player!jungkook

author’s note: this is part of a sports series with my girl @wangpuppo (: and a request from one of my cute anonies that i miss. also, the bit with meeting a cute boy in philosophy happened irl and inspired this so heh enjoy!

  • meet jeon jungkook, power forward of seoul university and computer science major extraordinaire
  • you would think from the size of his thighs and his arms that he was a hockey player but he assures anyone that it’s really just a hobby for him and that basketball actually has his heart
  • his mom is actually the reason how he got acquainted with the sport bc a little before he was born, she was actually a college player with a semi-pro spot ready for her until she met his dad who was actually the waterboy
  • they shyly flirted with one another until some of her teammates locked them in a supply room closet together bc it was so unbearable for everyone else to deal with their feelings (lol) so by the time they were out of the closet they were together and happily so
  • however, come around their final year in college when things go kinda wrong and she ends up pregnant with baby jeon and of course they’re ecstatic but holy shit they haven’t even graduated yet and they’re gonna have a baby and well…. she didn’t go onto the semi-pro team and jeon’s dad did his best to work hard for them while she finished getting her degree WHILE nursing jungkook for 9 months
  • to say the least mama and papa jeon managed to get through the whole ordeal with degrees
  • by the time they graduated, baby jungkook was born and he became the light of their lives and despite their initial struggles they did their best to provide the family and make it as comfortable as they could for him because dammit they brought him into this world, they wanted to make him live well too
  • the comfort of their lives came the moment papa jeon scored a position as a nutritionist and mama jeon became a physical therapist so that’s how jungkook got acquainted with the world of fitness and finding interest in the way his parents could take care of people
  • however, the moment he fell in love with basketball was when he saw his mom’s basketball tapes. all the glorious videos of her scoring that winning shot and zooming around the court with such swiftness and agility he damn near got whiplash from trying to keep up
  • and from that moment on, he wanted to play too
  • of course, his parents were very ecstatic about that and enrolled him in a community team and he excelled so damn quickly
  • for the next nineteen years of his life, he played basketball and loved every damn second of it and along the way he found an interest in computers too. (let’s just say he read a few books that his high school computer teacher gave him and he was determined to take apart a computer and put it back together - he succeeded) and so that is why he has a full ride to SU with a basketball scholarship as a compsci major
  •  anywho, seeing jungkook on the court is honestly a sight because you would expect him to be stomping around, too slow for the muscle all over his body, but jfc no he is so goddamn quick and agile. he could be on one side of the court and somehow end up right in front of the opposing member to block for his teammate to make that shot
  • he’s a great team player really, not much for the glory and usually to himself, but on a handful of occasions he’ll surprise even his members with a half-court shot
  • he doesn’t care much for the glory of the winning shot, just the feeling that basketball gives him when he’s on the court, gaining callouses from the ball, and running around until he can’t seem to feel his calves and god the happiness on his parents’ face always gets to him
  • so yeah, that’s jungkook as a basketball player - a really sweet and hardworking boy who loves to make his parents happy and to make his teammates happy too
  • remember how i mentioned how he’s a compsci major?
  • well, you’re actually a compsci minor because you find computers really fascinating and cool and unfortunately quite a few others do too so it leaves you two at a disadvantage as first years compared to the upperclassmen so you’re both resorted to taking these random General Education (GE) classes i.e intro to philosophy
  • it’s hard not to notice jungkook that’s for sure, especially when he’s lugging around his sports bag and when he’s cute as all hell in your honest opinion
  • you once told this to your friends and they never let you down about it either. honestly they’d tell you when he’d walk in or try and get you to sit by him but the closest you’ve ever gotten was probably sitting one person away and that was on the final exam day
  • on a few occasions you two would actually inadvertently glance at one another during your discussion (dear god none of your friends let you live, best believe that) but you were always too shy to approach him and he was actually quite shy himself because let’s face it baby boy is a shy nugget who only knows basketball and comp sci and some philosophy (barely tho lol but it’s okay cuz you knew the bare minimum too)
  • anyway, that quarter you didn’t get to know him as you wished and both of you ended up regretting that because damn y’all thought each other was cute. for him it was especially seeing you laugh with your friends and for you it was that little perplexed expression on his face when the professor would mention soundness and the theories about the concepts and dshgjds yeah you really wished you had taken that chance to tell him he was cute on the last day like you initially planned but was too chicken to do
  • but guess what?
  • the next quarter you see him in your intro to computers class and somehow you two end up seated by one another and although there’s no seating chart, it just becomes a thing that this is that person’s seat the moment they sit there more than twice and so you both are seated not too far from one another
  • your hair is a slight mess and your eyes are puffy while you sip your coffee and he looks fairly content albeit sleepy with his hood drawn up and you both don’t even realize it’s each other until hour two of the lab goes by
  • you’re both starting to wake up and looking around at each other cuz people are shuffling around and some are moving closer toward one another and then it strikes you that the kid with slightly ruffled hair is very familiar and then it hits you and you’re just like “wow ok holy shit cute person from that philosophy class!!!!”
  • but this isn’t enough to get you two to start talking to each other
  • that self-established seating chart has already set in notion and so there’s no honest chance in getting to know him from that and so you kinda give up because you’re very sure he probably doesn’t remember you and dammit your TA is standing over your shoulder staring at your codes with narrowed eyes (rip you but he was just playin’ cuz he liked what you had)
  • this whole exchange isn’t to say you both never talk because on this chance encounter of finding out why he lugs that damn nike bag around all the time comes full circle
  • so you do work at the infirmary, usually filing papers and the like since it’s sort of the track for your major and on a particular day comes in jungkook!
  • he looks like he’s in a lot of pain clutching his shoulder and the nurse gets him to do the necessary papers and shovels him off to the doctor who tells him that he has a pretty bad fracture and he won’t be able to play for the rest of the season (at least that’s what they think)
  • reason: some asshole from one of the other teams hit him a little too hard after one too many unnecessary roughness calls and on this blow jungkook fell a little too hard and too awkward for it to just be another minor bruise and yeah :(
  • he’s pretty devastated about this and he has to go through a bunch of testing and whatnot and as an assistant you usually run around making copies until you have to hand off some paperwork for him to fill out
  • prior to this, you noticed how most of his appointments took up his time during the labs and the lectures so you nicely set a copy of your notes with his, adding in things you figured he might need to know from the lecture since he was unable to attend and the moment he receives the large stack his eyes grow wide
  • and you’re like “oh so i remember you from my comp sci class and i figured you might these notes… -oh and those are just basic info that the doctor wanted you to sign off on and the like”
  • he blinks at you, still pretty surprised at your kindness (and totally not freaking out that such a cute person is chatting from him aka the same one he’s wanted to talk to for a while) but he flashes you a small smile (and omg you love it so much) and thanks you
  • coincidentally most of your volunteer shifts are during his appointments and whatnot so you talk every now and then, usually about the notes and eventually about your majors
  • the doctors and the nurses think it’s absolutely adorable so sometimes they let you two chat a little longer than usual just for young love to bloom <3
  • this exchange goes on from some time until he finds the guts to ask for your number when you hand him the large stack of notes in this rushed blurting of words i.e. “soumiwaswonderingificould-maybe-getyournumber??”
  • you: “wait what”
  • he looks down, cheeks quite pink, “can i -um- get your number? since y’know we have comp sci together so it’d be easier to like study for exams and talk about it and stuff…. yeah….”
  • you grin and nod, scribbling it onto one of the notes and the two of you can’t deny the butterflies and erratically beating hearts y’all have going on
  • you both see each other during his check-ups but he’s healing quite quickly thanks to having such strong bones so he may not be out for the rest of the season like they thought thankfully and so when he’s fine and his check-ups are less and less
  • so along the way, you two end up talking day by day even sitting by one another in your comp lecture because you’re semi-friends now and it’s just nice to have someone you know in that class since none of your other friends were interested in comp sci like you so nowadays you’ll text one another about the class and how your days are and those little butterflies emerge whenever you wait for his text or receive a response and you’re just like “dsjghsdjgshdgs”
  • little do you know he’s honestly the same exact way and his roommates jimin and taehyung are always like “???? WHO DAT? :D” and jungkook’s like “lol gtfo bye”
  • anyway, one day you text him about the upcoming final bc you’ll be damned if you miss out on your chance to actually ask his kid out and studying together and he agrees but it’d have to be after his practice and you ask him about his shoulder and if he’ll be good to play at championships
  • and he’s like “oh yah!”
  • and you’re like “o: woah, can i come watch? i haven’t gone to a game and i wanna see you play. prolly treat ya out if you win”
  • and ok, at first he’s a lil’ shy but he says “ok sure, just say you’re with me at the door” and you do and jin (the RA)’s at the entrance like “O: WHAT MY FLOOR CHILD HAS A GIRLFRIEND, THAT PUNK KSJHFJS” but before he can say anything else one of jungkook’s buds urges you to sit by the front and you do until you see jungkook and he looks so nervous, glancing around until his eyes settle on you and he just flashes you a grin and wave which you return as well
  • the game is going by swimmingly and you can’t help but watch jungkook especially because even though he’s the power forward he’s also very conscious of his shoulder which you were extremely worried about until you feel like you can finally breathe when your school wins and you stand with the crowd cheering like crazy
  • out of everyone tho he actually approaches you first with a grin and you’re congratulating him and he feels so elated he really just wants to take you up in his arms and kiss you tbh but he has self control and mercy bc he’s sweating like crazy
  • ngl tho he looks crazy attractive in your opinion
  • anywayy, as you two are talking since you did tell him that you’d buy him food on his win, the rest of the team’s like “yooo kook! party at jackson’s!!!! you in??”
  • and although you’re disappointed you tell him you won’t mind if he goes but he turns to you and says with a grin “nah i got plans already” and jsdkghsjgh the team goes “oOOOOoooooOoooo” but y’all ignore them and he goes “i’ll be back ok? gonna get cleaned up and we can get food?”
  • so you’re content to wait by the locker room for him, grinning af bc holy shit the cute boy you really wanted to get to know last quarter is going to dinner with you!!!!!
  • meanwhile jungkook’s so nervous and stuff cuz he plans on confessing and stuff since it just seems right and his teammates clap him on the back like “yo you got this bro!!!!!!! goood luck tho jin definitely sent him some salty messages and warnings to be safe ahahaha
  • and ok so y’all go to dinner at this nice ramen shop and it’s really great! and you two are laughing your asses off about how this one time oneo f his roomates taehyung got stuck in between the washing machines because he was so certain he could fit and how they had to call the fire department to get the boy loose and yeah ahaha
  • and he’s just in awe with how damn beautiful you look when your laughing and he just blurts out “you have a really nice laugh” when you ask him why he’s staring and you’re like “o: oh thank you…. you do too”
  • and he says “i wanna hear you laugh more and be the reason why you do….” he lets out a deep sigh, appearing a lot more nervous than before, “i like you a lot. i think you’re incredibly cute and i love that you love compsci as much as i do and talking to you these past few weeks have made me happy and god i really wanted to kiss you after the game but i didn’t want to scare you and i feel like this is a lot less eloquent than in my head so i’m sorry”
  • and you’re just in awe because damn you really planned on confessing first but you can’t deny the smile spreading on your face and you tell him “kook, i like you too. and i’d really like it if you kissed me, by the way”
  • and he’s all wide eyed but he grins and after y’all eat and you’re strolling around the city with his arm draped over your shoulders, you guys stop at the top where it overlooks the city lights and on a particular moment when you both are still and quiet and glancing at one another you lean in and do it
  • and it leads to a shocked expression on his face but he lets go of your shoulders and puts his hands on either side of your face and kisses you again
  • and ahh it’s just so damn sweet and neither of you can stop grinning because damn it really worked out as you both hoped
  • dating jungkook entails a lot of visits to his practices after you’re done with volunteering where you’ll come by with ice packs and water and snacks and usually you’ll bring enough snacks for the others who absolutely adore you for that
  • you also have a tendency to fuss over him whenever he overexerts himself because he’s a very big overachiever in sports and academics and sometimes you gotta threaten to withdraw your kisses and affections just to get him to settle down honestly
  • his roommates were so happy to hear how things turned out for you two and they go out of their way to tease him whenever you’re around and dear god Jin
  • well when he found out you two got together, he saw y’all holding hands and he literally sat you both in the lounge, brought out some snacks and just chatted with you
  • to jungkook, this was horrendous but you loved chatting with jin because he’d lay out a bunch of things about kook like how he isn’t the cleanliest and you shouldn’t be surprised to find anything and everything under his bed and how there was one time when jungkook spent an hour googling how to work the washer and dryer were right by the bulletin board in the room and that’s when kook lost it and dragged you away
  • it was then decided that jin approved of you tho
  • bc after the season when everyone is still training after, jungkook’s shoulder was bothering him and he refused to admit that he might’ve overexerted it and you stormed over to the dorm and scolded him for not taking proper care of himself before running around just to grab some ice packs and just a mini kit of dealing with this brat and jin just knew that you’d take care of this kid so he leaves y’all be and even closes the door to the dorm tho you pay no attention as kook starts opening up to you
  • even on days when he feels his worst like he feels like everyone depends on him and he’s not sure if his abilities are good enough since his shoulder’s constantly bothering him and all you think to do is give him words of advice and kissing him to let him know that he isn’t alone
  • because although you count on him, you want to be there to support him and well…. jimin and taehyung aren’t in the room and with the ice pack on his shoulder, you climb atop the bed, sitting on his lap and kissing him with more and more fervor that he reciprocates
  • you convince him to let you take care of him and you do indeed~
  • the one day he actually loses a game (bc hey no ones perfect) and you’re there doing your best to comfort him he just tells you how much he loves you and is grateful for you being there
  • and holy shit this is the first he’s told you this, you tell him you love him too and god he looks significantly happier
  • on days when you’re at your worst, he tries his best to get your mind of it, taking you on walks to your favorite places and carrying you when you’re too tired
  • other days he’ll even forgo practice, finding the frog leaps on the stairs worth it, when he can pick you up after your volunteer shift just to surprise you with snacks and a semi-well made bento box and boba and it’s just so damn sweet ok
  • you and jungkook manage to complement one another in the best way possible and when you’re both overexerting yourselves you’re there for one another to tell each other to chill
  • to say the least, both of y’all have never been more grateful for a philosophy class even if you both suffered incessantly in that damn class

anonymous asked:

Saiii-chan... What do you think if Kacchan and Todoroki have a relationship(romance or friendship)? And how do you describe it??? :3 Love u, mom of 1-A class!

(okay so i must apologize b/c this is more a meta about Bakugou and Todoroki’s relationship overall instead of what you asked, even tho you said you were fine with that earlier. sorry about that!!!)

i can’t see it as a romantic relationship, personally

i think Bakugou is still angry at Todoroki for giving up during their fight at the sports festival. at the very least, he still holds a bit of a grudge over it. Bakugou doesn’t take anyone implying that he’s weak lightly, and Todoroki refusing to use his fire powers during their fight, after he used them against IZUKU, implies a lot for Bakugou:

1. that Bakugou is less impressive than Izuku. this is a very big sore spot for Bakugou, beccause he has a lot of personal issues that stem from his fear of Izuku actually having the potential to surpass him, and it’s the reason he began bullying Izuku in the first place.

“IF I CAN’T GO ABOVE DEKU, IT DON’T MEAN A GODDAMN THING!!!”

2. That Todoroki doesn’t see Bakugou as worthy to use his flames against. which, again, is a sore spot. this implies that Bakugou isn’t strong enough or is too weak to have the honor to fight against Todoroki’s fire.

“Am I not strong enough for ya?”

3. Todoroki wasn’t even trying in their fight because he didn’t see Bakugou as worth fighting.

of course, the reason why Todoroki didn’t use his fire was because he was going through a lot of emotional issues, and Bakugou was at least somewhat aware of this.

he did overhear Izuku and Todoroki’s discussion about Endeavor and what he did to Todoroki and his mom.

the bottom panels show up immediately after Todoroki’s.

how long Bakugou was listening in and how much he actually heard is up for debate, but we do know that he did overhear about Todorki’s home life and his declaration against Endeavor and his resolve not to use his flames.

however, Bakugou has a massive inferiority complex, particularly in reference to Izuku, and the fact that Todoroki was able to use his fire against Izuku is what really bothers Bakugou. Todoroki isn’t even trying to win during their fight.

he isn’t even bothering.

look at how upset Bakugou is here. he looks like he’s about to break down in tears.

that’s how important this was to Bakugou. he’s literally about to cry because of this. and one of the reasons this fight was so important for Bakugou comes from early on in the series.

(the second image is a pic i took from my phone of the official translation)

“THAT ICY BASTARD! NO WAY I CAN MEASURE UP TO HIM, EITHER…!!”

immediately after Bakugou lost to Izuku during the Heroes vs. Villains exam, after Momo explained exactly how Bakugou fucked up for the entire class to hear, Todoroki comes and finishes the exam within minutes.

he barely had to do anything and he fucking won without breaking a sweat. in other words: he completely showed up Bakugou after Bakugou lost control, got angry and totally fucked up.

it was the first time Bakugou realized that there are people out there that are stronger than him. that there are people that he might not be able to beat. it was the first time Bakugou realized that he might not be the best, and he was faced with the fact that he might not be able to hold a candle to Todoroki.

so for Bakugou, their fight at the sports festival was very, very personal for him.

“… YOU PLAY TO WIN!!”

hell, even for a moment, Bakugou actually agreed with Izuku when he cheered Todoroki on to fight his all against Bakugou.

but Todoroki was distracted; with his home life, with Endeavor, and worse (in Bakugou’s point of view), with Izuku.

it’s just moments before their fight, and Todoroki doesn’t even acknowledge Bakugou when he accidentally barges into the wrong room.

no, instead of acknowledging Bakugou, Todoroki immediately starts talking about Izuku.

Izuku, Izuku, Izuku, Izuku.

of course this pisses Bakugou off. this is HIS FIGHT and Deku is already fucking with it and he’s NOT EVEN THERE

i do think that Bakugou was trying to help Todoroki in his own way. he was trying to get Todoroki to understand that his fire is just a biological function of his body. it’s his own power, no one else’s.

there’s a reason why Horikoshi specifically had Bakugou say these lines, especially during Izuku and Todoroki’s fight.

however, i think the reason why Bakugou did this was mostly to get Todoroki to overcome his hesitance because he wanted to fight Todoroki at his full power. think of it as Bakugou saying “Get the fuck over yourself and fight me at your full potential so I can prove myself.”

(tho a bit of it may be because Bakugou does care, just a bit. the stricken expression he has after Todoroki explains his personal history is very telling, and it tells the audience that it did affect Bakugou somewhat.

“And since I don’t give a shit, feel free to use that fucking flame side on me…!”

he very specifically denies caring about Todoroki’s personal history, tho he may have just done so to rile Todoroki up to get him in the mood for a fight. but also because he really just wants to fight against Todoroki’s flames)

he knows why Todoroki doesn’t use his fire. but he still used his fire against Izuku. and Bakugou wants part of that, he wants to fight Todoroki on equal ground and prove that he’s the best.

Bakugou wants so badly to test himself against Todoroki because of what happened during and after the Heroes vs. Villains exam. he wants to prove himself against Todoroki, to prove that he can beat this kid that he once thought he couldn’t. he wants to have a fair fight against Todoroki and fucking WIN without any of Deku’s bullshit getting in the way, and yet it’s already interfering before the fight even starts.

that’s why Bakugou was so angry that Todoroki wasn’t taking this fight seriously. that’s why he was about to fucking cry at the end of it, when he won. because he didn’t win due to his own strength, he didn’t prove himself in any way, he only won because his opponent refused to go all out against him, and that’s a huge slap in the face for Bakugou.

there isn’t any point in winning a fight where your opponent doesn’t even try to fight against you. and Bakugou hates being underestimated and taken lightly.

and again, this was a huge personal insult against Bakugou in particular. he wanted to prove something to himself but Todoroki just wasn’t in the right headspace to fight back at full power.

of course, none of this is Todoroki’s fault. he had a lot on his mind.

but for Bakugou, this is all extremely difficult for him. he continues to hold this grudge against Todoroki prior to the second exam, where he threatens/challenges both Izuku and Todoroki.

hell, he even says Todoroki’s name here, which shows how serious he is. Bakugou never says anyone’s name, unless he respects them or they got his attention. i’m fairly certain that, during this moment, it’s not out of respect; Todoroki just royally pissed Bakugou off and part of that manifested as Bakugou using Todoroki’s name to show just how angry and determined he was at this moment

tho Bakugou does seem to calm down a bit after the second exam, after he was forced to work with Izuku.

even afterwards tho, where they’re paired up during the trial of courage, Bakugou is trying to get a different partner, any other partner besides Todoroki, because he’s still pissed about what happened.

(lmao i’m fairly certain Ojirou doesn’t wanna pair with Todoroki because he got his ass royally kicked by him in the first exam)

i think that Todoroki is trying to make up for what he did to Bakugou in his own way, but doesn’t really know how. he realized that he did Bakugou a disservice during their fight, and feels bad about it.

i believe this is why he tried so hard to rescue Bakugou when he was kidnapped by the League of Villains/AFO.

out of all the kids, he was one of the few who was 100% set on rescuing Bakugou from the start. absolutely nothing would stop him from going and rescuing Bakugou.

now, the reason why he was so dead set on this is up for speculation.

personally, i think part of it was Todoroki trying to make up for what he did to Bakugou during the Sports Festival by helping to rescue him.

part of it may be because Bakugou was kidnapped from right in front of him and he couldn’t do a thing to stop it, and he feels responsible for it.

another part may be because it’s part of his ideal of what a hero should be, which is rescuing people when you know you have the ability to, regardless of the consequences (which may be a call back to the Stain incident with Iida. if he and Izuku hadn’t shown up, Iida very well could’ve died)

anyway, the point i’m trying to make here is that Todoroki holds no ill will towards Bakugou. rather, he feels bad for letting Bakugou down, and tried his damnedest to rescue him, even after Bakugou made it clear that he doesn’t like Todoroki.

in fact, they seem to have a fairly….. amiable relationship, at least for Bakugou’s standards.

it’s mostly just…. Bakugou getting angry and shouting, and Todoroki just not really reacting to him. i’m sure Bakugou is still fairly angry about everything in regards to Todoroki, but it doesn’t seem quiet as….volitile or personal as before.

and again, Todoroki holds no ill will towards Bakugou. there are only two moments where Todoroki seems truly angry or frustrated at Bakugou, and one of them is when Bakugou brings up his home life (which. yeah), and the second is just because he’s frustrated that Bakugou wants to use his explosions in the forest in order to fight the villain, which would only cause them more problems.

i think Bakugou is slowly letting go of his grudge. very, very slowly. it was a very personal issue for him and it’s hard for him to just let that go. but after seeing All Might retire and feeling like the cause of it, and feeling all that guilt… not to mention, he now knows the story behind Izuku, All Might, and One for All, and is actually supporting Izuku (someone he hated for so long).

his feelings are becoming somewhat healthier now that most of those issues have been discussed. not quite resolved, because stuff like that doesn’t happen over night, but it’s getting there.

now tho, he might be more willing to try and let some of those angry feelings towards Todoroki go. i doubt it’ll be anytime soon, however. Bakugou is someone who holds long grudges about this kind of stuff. but i think he is slowly letting them go.

it helps that Todoroki doesn’t really react to Bakugou’s anger at all, haha.

You’re Writing Romance Wrong? How To Tell, And How To Fix It.

Why Your Romance Isn’t Reaching Your readers.

There are a few ins and outs to writing romance, and usually, there’s a problem fan fiction and novel writers run into- and that’s that none of their readers connect with the romance the same way they do- or they simply don’t know why the romance is working. Here are all the common pitfalls to watch out for the next time you approach a keyboard or notebook with romance on the mind.

We Need To Know the characters As Individuals

You can’t have a romance between two characters that have no personality. If we don’t understand them as individuals, both you and the reader how are we ever going to be convinced that the romance is interesting at all? The one determining factor of a romance novel, shipping fanfiction, or a romantic subplot is that your reader becomes invested or hooked. If they don’t care about the character then they won’t care about the romance. Would you care about Veronica’s love for J.D in Heathers if he was a blank slate deadpan? Would fangirls claw over Mr.Darcy like they do if he wasn’t as witty or funny, and was nothing but a nice piece of ass? THe more we care about the two characters no their own, the more excited we become when they get together. You cannot Start the romance in chapter one- because then our brain immediately is interested. If I just met this character, and he’s already asking for a stranger’s piece of ass? I’m still not in a position yet to trust his opinion. I don’t know why (s)he’s doing that! People first, sex toys and makeout sessions later.

Make Them Like Each Other!

This one is clear, but I see all the time happening. If you have a bad boy character- or a bitchy woman- or an insane off the hook kinda guy ( which can be some of the best written characters if you do it right) They can’t abuse their partner. Unless it’s intentional- your characters have to care about one another. Playful teasing goes a long way, but you know what goes even further? Little acts of kindness. Simply with this following sentence, that you can insert ANYWHERE:

“Hey, did you empty the dishwasher?” “Yeah, I heard it finish up and saved you the trouble.”

You can see that they care about each other’s well being, but more importantly it shows that they’ve made a habit out of that kind of affection. Whether or not they are together when they say that line, you know what’s happening. You can have love without sex, you can have sex without love. BUT if you want a relationship to be portrayed as healthy you can’t have the broody character lashing out at their partner every chapter. If all they ever do is fight, no matter how compelling, it’s a relationship the audience will root against, rather than for if you make a habit of it.

They Need To Share The Same Amount Of Vices And Virtues

So, you have an ugly werewolf and a pleading popular girl falling for each other. The werewolf boy is ugly and foul- but he has a kind heart under that thick skin. He’s rude and cruel and turns into a werewolf, he assaults people and talks down to the girl who loves him- trying to despise her. THe girl is self-sufficient, popular, smart, and never needs any help ever.

why does this not work?

Because one character is perfect and has all the strengths and all the good things in life, but the other has nothing but problems.

Take a brief moment right now and list off the strengths and Weaknesses of your characters (This is important in the next point too) and count them up. If a character has more than a ⅔ to the other in virtues OR vices, You might need to adjust that. Most people on the planet have the same amount of good qualities as bad. That’s being human.

They Should Compliment One Another

Still, have that list from 30 seconds ago? Good. Most people write romances like this, They are identical and share all of their interests and passion, or their total opposites. Now, there’s an important distinction to make here. Identical characters ARE PISS FUCKING BORING and aren’t remotely realistic. They should be similar. Similar. Not identical. And Opposites are incompatible. However. Opposites are unhealthy and will not work, complimentary characters do. Again, this is an important distinction to make.

Complementary characters are ideal. They cover one another’s weaknesses. Look at the chart you just made, even if you didn’t write your characters to be different, even if they are similar, look at the list.

Do you see different strengths and weaknesses there?

THat’s all you need. If your characters have different good and bad traits, and the overflow of positive traits for one character can cover the bases of another, that’s a good dynamic. Having an impulsive character helping a hardass planner loosen up a bit, or having a happy go lucky character held to responsibility by the other. People who work together.

They Have Boundaries

This is something I see missing from a lot of fanfiction. People who don’t have editors, or in fandoms that are so engrossed in other content about a couple that you lose your own work in a reader’s expectations. Writing a couple that people have already probably seen porn of is weird- but getting to a milestone is way more satisfying if you tease it for a bit- and bonus points, it’s way more realistic. And realistic writing is engrossing writing. It makes it seem, well, more real. Less in your head.

They Need To Work Together

Couples shouldn’t be fighting all the time. They need to have actual teamwork. The real word gives us piles of shit all the time. We consult friends, we rant, we ask for help all the time. It’s a human thing to do- but ideally, this lover should be the first person your character goes to with their issues. They need to be able to support and collaborate. But everybody does it in different ways, maybe your quiet character lets a lot of his support left unsaid and shows more by doing. Maybe one can’t offer the best advice but tries their best for support. Guidance, advice, and support are all different ways of helping- and maybe your characters can’t do one or two of those. It can be problematic, but that happens in the real world.

How They Meet?

This is so, so important. What history do these two have together, if any? If they don’t have history together, what romances have they had in the past- have and how did those end?

Only under VERY rare circumstance do characters not date until they meet ‘the one’ Marina and the Diamonds once said: “every boyfriend is the one until otherwise proven.”

How does their romantic history affect them? Do they talk about it? Does the other character understand those boundaries?

Forcing

I’m not talking about Characters not working. I strongly believe that the right writer can make any two characters have the ideal dynamic. This is all about the writer. If the characters hold hands in chapter one? Slow down, I need to get invested. If they say “I love you” on the first date? Slow down, that’s pushing it way too far and being creepy. Your characters should never do anything that you would be uncomfortable with a stranger. You have to understand, your MC shouldn’t know their love interest like the writer knows them. You might feel it’s natural- but realistically your reader is viewing the world through your MC’s eyes, not yours. Also, if you rush, rush, rush things what do we have to root for? “THIS TIME THEY DO BDSM ON THE FLOOr! A-again…” isn’t a very good selling point. If something feels unnatural, try going back and reading through it again with the eyes of a new reader. Forget what you know about your own characters, because your readers don’t know what you know, take a deep breath- and accept that it won’t be perfect.

Can’t Change To Be Compatible

Sometimes characters just. Aren’t. Compatible. Before you start smashing your keyboards there are EASY WAYS TO FIX THIS. THat broody emo anime teen from your fan fiction earlier? (trust me, they can be compelling too) He can’t and shouldn’t pull a total 180 on their personality just to suit their partner unless you’re trying to write a dysfunctional relationship. Look at it this way, your two characters shouldn’t change each other. They should compliment each other. A character falls in love with another character for who they are already. They should never fall in love with a different version of a person. They fell in love with them, not an idealized version of them. There can be gray areas, where a character suffering from something can be trying to fight it, and a character, after they fall in love with that person, tries to help- but that’s just the key difference. It’s something the person in question is fighting for- and it’s apparently something that can be healed. Love can’t make depression disappear overnight.

If you’re Writing Smut Or Erotica, Here’s What You Need To Accept:

There will always be a better written or drawn character that has a better butt than yours.

As a smut writer, you cannot rely on sex to be the selling point. The reason your readers will flock to your story and stay there is because they enjoy the idea of these characters doing it. Not these cardboard cutouts of penises. If one of your characters has lackluster personality, whether it’s the MC or that hunky man love interest Don’t write your story. The only people who will come to read your story will read it once, read just the sex part, then move on. They don’t care about the story- and even if you don’t care too much about plot either, and just want to roll the sexy times forward the whole book? You still need to have character. Character is different than plot- and subtle character writing comes from imaging this character with a full understanding of them as a person. Would they be hesitant to lose their virginity- would they be kinky for that- or not so much? Do they need after care? Even the little details of How would they word that Sentence or phrase? Is all important for writing sex scenes that will really stick with a person and keep them coming back for more.

Carlos-Centric Descendants Prompt

(Alternate story line where only Mal, Evie and Jay were asked to go to Auradon and Carlos is left behind.)

Evie kisses his temple and grabs his shoulder, the heat of her fingers soaking through his sleeve. “We’ll be back as soon as we can,” she murmurs. “I promise.”

“I know.” And, logically, Carlos really does know that. He knows the plan and he knows how determined his friends are. It’s just hard to remember when he realizes he’ll be alone again.

“We get in, grab the wand, get out.” Jay recites on his other side. “Then we’re off of this place and free to go wherever.”

Carlos nods. He was alone before his friends and held his own just fine. He suffered through the bullies, the thieves, the villains. He suffered through Cruella by himself for years. He can do it again for a little bit.

Mal paces before them. “It’ll just be a couple of weeks.” She has her eyes closed and releases a shaky breath. Carlos has been worrying so much about himself that he didn’t stop to consider how his friends must feel about leaving their home and living under the threat of failing Maleficent. He’s scared for them all. He reaches for Mal’s hand and she looks at him. “And once it’s over with, everything gets better for all of us. You just have to wait for us.”

So Carlos does.

Following the book, none of the Rotten Four were friends until about a year before the movie (feel free to change how long they’ve been friends), so Carlos spent most of his life alone and fending for himself and it’s mentioned that he was picked on quite a bit.

But life on the island has to be better with a group of friends watching out for you, right? Carlos has formed emotional attachments to these people and he has to people to confide in and help him, hooray!

Until Prince Ben’s proclamation goes out and he picks three Isle kids to come live in Auradon - Mal, Jay and Evie, who have to leave behind their youngest friend. Carlos just has to make it a couple of months without them because they totally promise they’re not abandoning him and we’re not gonna leave you behind, Carlos, you know that, right?

So, he stays on the Island, returning to facing the horrors of the Isle on his own. He just has to wait for his friends to take down the barrier.

Following the movie, that doesn’t happen. Mal, Evie and Jay still choose good at the end and still return the wand and Maleficent is still a lizard and Carlos watches it all on tv with the parents. His friends look happy and healthy and safe and that’s all he ever wanted for them. Mal swore she would come back for him, Jay said he would protect him, Evie just told him to wait and hey, it looks like they’re all on good terms with the new king, Ben, so maybe Carlos will still get off the Isle afterall!

Except, he doesn’t.

More time passes and there’s no word from any of his best friends - no visits, no letters, no contact at all.

Maybe they’re all too caught up in their new lives to remember him or maybe they were never actually friends. Time passes and Carlos remains on the Isle of the Lost, running around with murderers, rapists and thieves and the worst of them all - his mother. Sure, he gets his ass kicked on a daily basis and he’s angry, hurt and confused (Why did they leave him behind? Have the forgotten about him? Did he do something wrong? Is he too dirty for Auradon?). But he survives.

Another year passes and Carlos is finally called to Auradon (does he go with the second wave of VKs or do his friends finally remember to send for him?). How does he adapt to this new environment on his own? What will Carlos do when he sees his former friends, who have actually changed to be good? Jay’s not stealing, Mal’s not threatening and Evie’s not gossiping - he didn’t even know that was possible.

On top of it all, how does Carlos function around his friends who abandoned him on Hell on Earth?

Note: This has been kicking in my head for forever but I have way too many projects to start this. Still, if anyone is interested, I have quite a few ideas for it all and I’d love to read Mal, Evie and Jay feeling guilty and Carlos not understanding why he was left behind. I also love Carlos paired with pretty much anyone and Carlos/Jay/Evie/Mal is a wonderfully complex relationship.

Let me know if anyone wants to fill this, I’d be so excited to read!

Ever since Steve could remember he had always been able to see your face the moment he closed his eyes. It was what got him out of bed on his worst days: knowing that he hadn’t met you yet, that today could be the day. And it never bothered him that as he got older, more and more of the people his age found their soulmates, finally picked that face out of the crowd that had been etched so deeply into their minds, into their very beings, since day one. No, he wasn’t worried. He would find you when the time was right.

Steve’s main conflict came in the form of his artistic inclinations. He wanted so badly to draw you, paint you, have some real physical evidence of your existence, but he couldn’t. It was considered bad luck to try to capture you soulmate’s image on paper before you met them. Some even went so far as to claim that doing so nullified the forces that eventually brought all soulmates together, that to have a physical representation of your soulmate was to, in effect, replace the first meeting. Steve didn’t intend to take any chances.

Bucky teased him about it, saying it was a silly superstition that only old women and children believed in, but when Steve would respond with an offer to draw Bucky’s soulmate for him, he would only raise his hands in surrender with a playful smirk. And so, Steve settled for daydreaming, living for the day he would finally find you, meet you, fall in love with you.

Stan Uris takes a quick breath, accompanied by an even quicker step as he, and the rest of the now worried Losers, try to catch up with him on the road to your house. The October sun burns brightly, not a cloud in the sky and so the whole street reflects with nearly irritating luminosity. It’s hot. Hot for such a cold morning, hot for Fall and hot enough to make Stan unzip his jacket and let the cool air caress his skin. It is entirely possible that he’s simply hallucinating this change in weather, proved by the fact that two girls pass the gang, huddled up in scarves and hats and fur boots. But Stan can’t help it he is so anxious.

After all, if Pennywise did get you, it is entirely his fault.

Left At The Altar - Part 4? (Bucky x Reader, Steve x Reader)

Title: Left At The Altar (Part 4?)

Pairing: Bucky X Reader, Steve Rogers X Reader

Genre: Angst?

Summary: Steve and (Y/N) have good news to share. But Bucky doesn’t seem too pleased.

MASTERLIST

Part 1  Part 2  Part 3  Part 5

(Y/N) paced around the hangar, fingers fiddling with her cellphone. Natasha called with news that although the entire team was on the way back from the mission, there were some injuries sustained. (Y/N) managed to attain permission from Pepper to leave the office early to go wait for the quinjet’s arrival.

As the quinjet touched down on the compound’s hangar, (Y/N) waited anxiously for its passengers to alight. The sound of heels clicking from behind her caused her to turn to see Jenny hurriedly making her way to where she was standing.

Settling herself next to (Y/N), Jenny whispered harshly, “God will you please just stop hovering around your ex-fiancé, my boyfriend. There’s a reason why you were left at the altar alright. And I’m telling you, its got to do with how suffocating you are.”

(Y/N) stared at Jenny, looking aghast at what she was hearing. She was nothing but polite and civil to this bitch that seduced her ex-fiancé and she decided to drag her?

Just as she was about to teach Jenny a lesson or two about the consequences of messing with the wrong person, the door to the quinjet opened and Sam was the first out.

“Hey pumpkin, we’re all back in one piece and I’m killing for some of your homemade double chocolate mint cupcakes,” Sam said as he made his way to give (Y/N) a hug.

Giving Sam a once over to make sure he was unscathed, (Y/N) replied, “I got worried the past week so I made dozens trying to help distract myself. I’ve filled the fridge, Sammy.”

“Thanks, sweetheart! Now, go look after your darlin’ ol’ captain.” he said, throwing her a wink.

(Y/N) frowned at that, her mind wandering to the worst possible scenario. Did Steve do something stupid again? Jump of another freaking vehicle? God forbid that he ran into another collapsing building.

Every ticking second made the girl more antsy than the last. The sound of boots on metal caused her to look up to see Steve hobbling out of the quinjet with Tony helping keep him upright. Right next to him was Bucky supported by Vision.

Just as he stepped out of the quinjet, Bucky’s eyes landed on (Y/N). Memories of when she used to wait for him post-mission resurfaced and he angled his body to walk towards (Y/N) - he wasn’t sure if it was muscle memory or if it was the sense of comfort he had with her.

“Shit! Steve! What happened?! We need to get you to the med bay right now.” (Y/N) yelled out, breaking Bucky from his reverie.

“Language, doll! And I’m back on time and in one piece for the date you promised me.” Steve teased.

“Goodness Steven Grant Rogers! You are going to be the death of me one day. And James Buchanan Barnes! You as well! Both of you off to the med bay!” (Y/N) chastised.

A small smile formed on Bucky’s face as he heard the worry in (Y/N)’s voice. The girl was probably too nice, she shouldn’t be worried about him at all but here she was fussing about them both.

He looked longingly at the girl who looped Steve’s arms around her, helping him walk. Jenny stalked over to Bucky and demanded his attention.

“Bucky! Your girlfriend is right over here, hello?” Jenny yelled, pulling Bucky’s attention back to her.

Bucky let out a sigh and turned to face her, “Hey Jen, follow me to the med bay?”

In the med bay, Bruce and Doctor Cho worked simultaneously on the two super soldiers. Steve had (Y/N) sat next to him, his hand intertwined with hers. On Bucky’s side was Jenny who fussed over Doctor Cho who was examining his wounds.

“Hey, you. Cho? Was it? Will you please stop touching Bucky everywhere?” Jenny demanded, causing Bucky to close his eyes in frustration.

“Hey Bruce, will you change with Doctor Cho, please? I think she’s about to implode.” Steve suggested, rolling his eyes at Jenny’s antics.

As the super soldiers were getting treated, FRIDAY’s voice came through the med bay.

“Ms (Y/N), your friends are contacting you once again regarding your high school reunion this coming weekend. They require an RSVP by tonight. Would you like for me to do so for you?”

(Y/N)’s grip on Steve’s hands loosened slightly making the captain frown.

“Thank you, FRIDAY. I will follow up accordingly.” (Y/N) replied the AI, her eyes brows knitting in frustration.

“Trying to avoid the questions about your failed wedding, (Y/N)?” Jenny questioned causing Bucky to grunt in disapproval.

The man dragged her out as he mumbled an apology to the red-faced (Y/N).

Showered and changed, Steve had (Y/N) sit in front of him between his legs as he helped the girl towel dry her hair. Deciding that it was a good time to breach the subject, Steve wrapped an arm around (Y/N)’s waist and settled his chin on her shoulder.

“So, what this thing about a reunion I hear?” Steve murmured into her shoulder.

After a short moment of silence, (Y/N) let out a sigh and replied, “It exactly what you’ve heard. I have a reunion coming up and I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to go.”

Turning her body slightly towards Steve, (Y/N) rested her legs on Steve’s thigh as the man tightened his grip on her waist.

“I know I shouldn’t be afraid of what others have got to say. And I know it isn’t my fault that my wedding didn’t happen. But, I just can’t help feeling as though I’m flawed and that why it happened to me. Being left at the altar was such a drama cliche that I didn’t think would ever happen to me. And some of my classmates were right out there waiting for my wedding to happen! This is such a mess.” (Y/N) ranted, her eyes filling with tears.

Pulling the girl closer to himself, he stroked the exposed skin of her waist, trying to offer a sense of comfort to her with his presence.

“Doll, if you’d like, we can go for this reunion together. It has been almost a year since the wedding and I’m sure most have forgotten. But I’ll be with you every step of the way. And if, only if you would like… I could… I could go with you as your… your…boyfriend?” Steve offered, his face and neck a bright red.

Fully turning to face the blushing captain now, (Y/N) has her eyebrows raised as she looked at Steve to try and find any ounce of joke on his face. Finding none, (Y/N) rested her hands on the sides of Steve’s face, her thumbs lightly brushing against his cheeks.

“Steve, if you would have me for who I am. The girl who worry too much sometimes. Who would fuss around to make sure everyone is well. Who binge watches Disney even though she’s all grown up. The girl that was left at the altar. I’ll be more than honored to have you.” came her reply, her smile contented and sweet.

“Oh thank God.” was all Steve said as he landed a kiss on her lips.

Sunday came by in a wink and (Y/N) was getting ready for the reunion she was heading to with Steve. The sundress she had on was a simple lilac color and as she was finishing up with her makeup, Steve came into her room looking as dashing as ever.

Helping him straighten his tie, (Y/N) said teasingly, “You look absolutely dashing Captain. Do I have to be worried about anyone stealing my boyfriend later?”

“Not with you by my side doll. Everyone would be too busy marveling at you.” Steve replied giving her a quick peck on her lips.

The couple made their way to the common room to inform the group of their plans for the afternoon and was met with Tony and Natasha staring intently at the screen in front of them.

“Hey, guys, (Y/N) and I are heading out for her reunion so we will be back late,” Steve said, causing Natasha to snap her attention to the couple.

“Reunion?” came Bucky’s voice from behind them.

“Dol-(Y/N), you can’t possibly go for this reunion. They-they’ll want to ask you questions and… Just please…” Bucky pleaded.

“Look, I can go with you and we can… we can pretend that everything is alright and that the wedding is simply postponed!” Bucky offered, his voice loud and rushed. Somewhere deep inside Bucky was pleading the Gods to make her accept his offer so he could spend one more day as her to-be husband.

Steve resisted the urge to place himself between (Y/N) and Bucky, knowing that the girl was more than capable of protecting herself from this jackass he couldn’t even recognize as his best friend.

“No James. We are not going to pretend to anyone. If they have questions, I’ll answer them, with the truth. I was left behind on my wedding day and that’s the fact. I’m not blaming you for it. I’ve stopped trying to find someone to blame months ago. It is what it is and we’ve all got to face it. You found your someone and I have too. Steve and I, We’ll protect each other and face whatever is to come together.” (Y/N) replied with determined eyes as she moves to grasp Steve’s hand in hers.

“You’ve got your chance at protecting her and you gave it up. Its now my duty to watch over her, Bucky.” Steve said, locking eyes with Bucky.

Giving Bucky a final smile and Steve’s hand a little squeeze, (Y/N) turned and made her way out with the captain.

“I am not too familiar with karma myself but I’ve heard some stuff about it. It seems like karma’s here for your ass Barnes.” Natasha said, her tone unforgiving.

“You left her hanging to face the music with family and guests on her wedding day. She let you off good, ya know? I had a whole series of revenge plans made out for her but rejected them all and said she understood where you were coming from, I mean seriously? That girl’s crazy. So don’t get all soppy about her leaving you behind now.” Tony said with a roll of his eyes.

Bucky trudged back to his room and as he stepped in, he was greeted with Jenny rummaging a cardboard box. Glancing at its contents, he noticed the framed photo of (Y/N) and himself smiling widely at the camera, the backdrop a bright blue ocean - a picture taken from their trip to Hawaii two years back.

“I’m going to get rid of this box, Buck. That girl came by to drop it off even though I told her you wanted nothing of hers.” Jenny huffed.

“Leave.” Bucky’s voice was deep and cold.

“But Buck-“

“Leave and get out. Now.” the finality of Bucky’s voice sent a chill down Jenny’s spine as she hurriedly left the room.

Bucky sat on the corner of his bed, hands clutching the framed photo, as his first tears since the winter soldier fell. The tears kept dripping on the picture as he whispered out to himself.

“What have I done?”

A/N:  I’ve been feeling not so hot for the past few days so I thought writing about it would help things out. This fic is intensely personal to me, so I hope you guys enjoy it.

More than anything you were glad your quarters didn’t have a mirror outside the bathroom. You weren’t sure you could handle looking at yourself right now, especially not in the skin-tight uniform top and the short skirt that came with it. You’d convinced Scotty a long time ago to let you wear coveralls instead, but the Captain had called you up to the bridge for briefing on an away mission, and you hadn’t been able to convince him to let you keep the coveralls on. Normally, you’d just pop on a pair of tights underneath and call it a day, but your last pair had torn where your thighs rubbed together and you hadn’t gotten around to fixing them yet.
