nod off

there’s something about even’s little nod in this scene

because even knows. he’s not oblivious, he notices the way isak reacts to his presence, to him. he’s been noticing him for weeks, weeks before they first met. he saw the way isak was when he came over to his place the previous week, he saw the look in his eyes, the light in his eyes, he saw the way he smiled and laughed, he noticed the changes in his voice. he probably memorized his facial expressions and the things he said last friday. kept replaying them in his mind every single day, in class, before going to bed, when he was with other people

earlier in that episode, when he came to give isak his snapback, in a matter of seconds, he understood that isak hadn’t told his friends he had gone to his place, he understood that he didn’t want them to know. because he sees and understands. he remembered the cardamom on the cheese toasties five weeks later, how they were sitting on the floor of his room as they ate them, he remembered isak saying he had a drop of water in his throat, he remembered isak talking about parallel universes. because he pays such close attention to isak and the way he looks and moves and speaks and all the things he says

do you think that even, who saw this boy on the first day of school, who was probably looking forward to seeing him even when it was just at school, in public, in rooms and hallways with other students, would not notice how isak was acting? notice the way he’s been looking at him the moment he showed up at his place for the pregame? the way he starred at him when he kissed sonja and looked at him straight in the eyes? how tensed he was as he told him about sonja and how they’d been together for years? the intonation of his voice as he said his okay’s (been together since we were 15. okay. can’t dump her. okay). do you think that even who’s been desperately trying to spend time alone with this boy he was falling for would not notice the smile that spread all over isak’s face when he realized that even was messing with him, the smile he was trying to stop it, in vain? do you think he would not sense his attraction to him? the vulnerability?

of course even notices. and since he came to see isak in his kitchen, he’s only been kidding, pretending not to be serious. but with that little nod, he grows more serious. with that little nod, it’s like he’s saying i see you, i see it, i’ve seen you for a while. it’s reassuring. it’s okay. it’s understanding. i know, isak. i know. me too

okay but how funny would it be if, after all this build up, Sam is the one to use the grenade launcher

Most of them didn’t say much, although Ryuji and Akechi seemed to mumbling something to themselves as they went off… Futaba on the other hand got a little too excited.

For the past year, ever since Steve had dragged her to Jonathan’s to confront Nancy and they had battled the Demogorgon, Y/N had suffered from terrifying nightmares. Her parents both worked for Hawkins Lab and had assured her multiple times that the old people had gone and that nothing like that would ever happen again. However, it didn’t reassure her. Her parents worked late most nights and would sometimes not even come home at all with only a brief phone call to tell her. When they weren’t home it was worse. She would wake up in cold sweats, breathing hard and sometimes crying.

This night was one of those. Shaking, Y/N swung her legs out of bed, pulled on a pair of leggings and a hoodie, put her shoes on and left the house after locking the door. The air was cold and her hoodie didn’t provide much protection. There was a soft breeze that swirled the autumn leaves into the air which she watched as she walked down the road. There was little noise this time of night and it was beautifully peaceful.

Hiding her hands in her hoodie, she shuddered as the sound of a car engine roared through the silence. She moved to the side of the road for the car to pass but, to her surprise, it pulled up beside her.

“Y/N, right?” The driver said as she looked over to see it was Billy Hargrove. She nodded her head and he smiled. “What you doing out this late in the cold, princess?” Y/N and Billy knew of each other but had never actually spoken at school. That was mainly down to the fact that he was not nice to Steve.

Y/N shrugged. “Couldn’t sleep” She studied the boy’s face and noticed a bruise beginning to form under his cheekbone.

“Want to come for a drive? I’d rather not leave you out in the cold.” He reached across and opened the door. “You shouldn’t be out here alone, it’s dangerous.”

Realising that he was probably right and that there was little chance of him actually turning out to be an axe murderer, she shrugged and climbed into the dark blue Camaro. The warmth from the inside of the car immediately engulfed her and she sank further into the seat as Billy set off.

“Anywhere particular you wanted to go, princess?” Billy asked glancing at the girl in his passenger seat.

“Not really” She muttered and looked out of the window as he turned on the radio and Rebel Yell by Billy Idol flooded the car. “What happened to your cheek?”

Billy glanced at her but she was still looking out of the window. “It’s nothing.”

“Is it the reason you’re out this late?” Y/N asked looking over at the blond.

“We’ve all got our demons, princess.” Was his response and she didn’t press him further. He thought most people would have and was suddenly glad it was her he had found and not anyone else.

They drove around aimlessly for a few hours, talking every so often and then letting the music fill the silence the rest of the time. He dropped her off at home and looked at the empty drive. “Where’re your parents?”

”At work. They either work really late or just stay at the office all night.” Y/N explained as she opened the door. “Thanks for the ride.” She smiled softly.

“Anytime, princess.” He returned the smile as she shut the door and walked away.

This continued to happen frequently over the next month. Y/N would have a nightmare and would go for a walk to clear her head and most times Billy would pull up with fresh bruises and they would go for a drive. Neither of them spoke any other time; they would glance at each other at school but that was about it. Their conversation and friendship were limited to the inside of Billy’s car. Neither of them really minded. They found an escape in each other.

However, one night the normality of their meetings was broken. Y/N was, for once, sleeping peacefully, when there was a knock on her window. Sleepily she had sat up and would have gone back to sleep blaming it on her imagination if it hadn’t sounded again. She walked over to the window, opened the curtains and locked eyes with those familiar blue irises. She opened the window as she took in his face. There were bruises all over his face but unlike usually, his nose was also bleeding, his lip and eyebrow was split and there were bruises visible under his ripped shirt.

“Billy?” She questioned as he started to climb through the window and nearly fell, causing her to grab him.

“Hey, princess.” He muttered as he winced in pain.

“What happened?”

“My dad didn’t like the way I was talking to my step-mom.” He told her as she helped him sit on the bed. “I didn’t know where else to go.” He whispered as he looked at the floor.

“It’s okay. I’m going to get the first aid kit.” Y/N said as she motioned for him to stay put. She walked into the bathroom and grabbed the first aid kit with shaking hands.

She walked back into the room and sat next to him and started pulling things out of the kit. Bill turned to look at her and noticed her shaking fingers as she tried to pour some alcohol onto some cotton wool. He placed his hands over hers and she stopped shaking and looked at him. He nodded reassuringly and she began to clean the cuts on his face. She then pulled out the tea tree oil and gently rubbed a small amount into the bruises on his face.

“Could you…?” She trailed off as she gestured to his tattered shirt; unable to meet his gaze.

He just nodded and pulled it off. Her hands started shaking again as she rubbed the ointment into the bruises on his chest and then on his back. She packed the kit away and just put it on the floor next to her bed. “Do you… Do you want to sleep here tonight?”

“If you don’t mind.” He said shakily.

“Of course not.” She murmured as she climbed into bed. He kicked off his shoes and climbed in next to her as she switched off the light.

“Thank you.” He whispered as they started to drift off.

“Anytime.”

Him coming over in the middle of the night after a fight with his dad started to become regular thing. Not once did he look as bad as the first time and each time she was glad of it. She hated to see him hurt. Her parents had begun to spend more time at the lab lately so she was always glad for Billy’s company. It seemed with Billy by her side, the nightmares didn’t have the courage to attack. Billy had found a place where he actually felt safe and was reluctant to give it up anytime soon. They still didn’t talk at school but glances had evolved into smiles when they saw one another. Other people were beginning to catch onto them but no one ever saw them together.

“You know my house has a door? You don’t always have to use the window. Especially when my parents aren’t home.” Y/N smiled as Billy climbed into her room from the darkness outside.

“Where’s the fun in that, princess?” He chuckled. There were small bruises in the shape of finger prints on each of his biceps. He sat on the bed as she grabbed a small bottle of tea tree oil that she now kept in her bedside table. No matter how many times he told her it didn’t matter, she wouldn’t listen so he had just started giving up and letting her put the ointment on the bruises.

“You staying?” She asked as she rubbed the ointment into each bruise on his arms.

“If that’s alright.” He whispered.

“Always.” She smiled and met his gaze.

As she put the bottle away, he pulled off his shirt, kicked off his shoes and trousers and got into the bed. After the first few times he had just started sleeping in his boxer shorts. She climbed in next to him and laid her head on his chest. One of her legs was thrown over his hips and her hand rested on his necklace right above his heart. One of his arms was wrapped firmly around her waist and the other played lazily with her hair. They had gotten used to sleeping in a tangle of limbs pretty quickly and now neither of them would have it any other way.

Y/N very quickly dropped off to sleep after she spent the previous night awake from her nightmares. Billy looked at her sleeping peacefully on his chest. He had tried so hard not to fall for her. Had tried so hard to convince himself they were just friends. But as he looked at her slowly moving with the rise and fall of his chest he realised it; he was well and truly in deep. He loved her.

Richie Tozier brought the cigarette between his lips, letting the toxic smoke fill his decaying lungs and pulse throughout his insides and swirls around in each crevice of his body. He then takes away the cancer stick, after a moment blowing out the toxic waste into the thin November air.

Beverly Marsh raised an eyebrow at him, sitting across from the much taller boy on the brick wall with her own cigarette between her fingers. She watched as the smoke faded into nothing, sighing lightly as she proceeded to watch her best friend smoke away.

What’s on my mind is

that scar on the left side of your face,
right below the sharp edge of your jaw,
how it looks like an arrow. How I wish
I were brave enough to trace my finger
like a road on a map until I hit somewhere

to call home.

When you drank your first beer, did you
pretend to feel the buzz just to make the
cool kids stop calling you a fucking loser?
Or maybe you were the cool kid. Maybe you
pressed cheap alcohol into the palms of kids
like me. Careful kids. Color in the lines kids.

Also, key lime pie. Specifically, my mom’s.
Would you eat it? I know you hate pie, but
how many girls’ moms’ pies have you eaten
just to please some girl’s mom? A lot, I’m sure.

Too many. But I like you. Even though you are
a raging republican. Even though you practice
dinner party talk in my bed. (Especially because
I think that’s you trying to impress me.) And

sometimes, when we dare to let the silence sit,
I wonder if the first people to get married
regretted it. Did they lie side-by-side five years
past their vows and rearrange letters of the
alphabet just to find the right word: Done.
Damaged. Different. Devoid. Divide. Divorce.

Yes, they thought, as they unlinked their hands.
Divorce. Because it burns something ugly on the tongue.
I wonder if we’ll ever get divorced before I remember
that we aren’t married. We aren’t anything. Then,
of course, I wonder, what the hell we’re doing.

And on that note: Hell.
Do you believe in it?
Because I do. I think I do.

At least I might.

Or do you make up stories about the girl over there
nose deep in the Bible or the man with no hair
who keeps nodding off. The people on subways and
street corners, half-awake. When you guess at their lives,
are they happily ever afters with green grass lawns
and dogs who don’t bark? Do they believe in hell?

And even if they do and you do and suddenly you see some
small fragment of yourself in the glass of her eyes, does that
mean you won’t bury her jagged pieces so deep she loses her
sharpness? And when she exhumes that grave and slips
idiosyncrasies back under her skin like splinters, will you stay
for something beyond the guilt? When she finally cracks open
her mind just to let you peek at the bone and raw edges,
will you even remember asking for all of this in the first place?

No. Of course you won’t.

So I smile. I stretch. You hold me like a question mark, quiet
and careful and waiting. There are things you’d like me to say,
but the silence is so much sweeter. Stranger hands wander down
my waist, and you ask, once more, “What’s on your mind?”

“Nothing,” I say. “I was just falling asleep.“
