nobody likes this show but me

I’m sorry but one of the stupidest things Marlene has done is start this “lifelike” mask sh*t. I didn’t mind those initial Ali masks because they were noticeably fake and added creepiness to the show. But now we have these “lifelike” masks to deal with. First of all, no mask is going to look THAT real. You mean to tell me someone could be prancing around town in a mask looking like someone else and nobody would notice? It’s not Halloween folks! I know this show hasn’t exactly been realistic but the whole mask crap is just utterly ridiculous and fake as sh*t!!! Another cop-out to me because you can always say any one person was wearing a mask. I can’t roll my eyes any freaking harder.

Seriously though it would have been so easy to have canon gay characters in the Harry Potter series. All this stuff that JK Rowling said about not having enough time or would distract from the original trio is nonsense. Case in point:

Seamus gave a great roar of delight then ran to give Dean a lung crushing hug before pulling him down into a desperate kiss that was hungrily returned. Harry supposed ‘best friends’ was no longer an accurate description of the pair.

or:

There were duels all over the stairs and in the Hall, Death Eaters everywhere Harry looked. He saw Alicia and Katie share a passionate kiss before they raced down the corridor to join the battle.

or maybe:

“Did I know in my heart of hearts what Gellert Grindelwald was? I think I did, but I closed my eyes. I chose to be blinded by my love for him. A choice that has haunted me ever since”

or perhaps:

As Harry entered the great hall he walked past Lavender and Parvati who were sitting opposite the latter’s twin with their bodies pressed close together while their hands held the others in a death like grip that showed no signs of ever being let go.

or even:

“Albus Severus” Harry said quietly, so that nobody but Ginny could hear him, who tactfully turned to talk to Oliver and Marcus as they waved off their own three boys.

See all I had to do was just add in a sentence or not even that and suddenly ….. wow a gay character. That wasn’t too hard now was it JK.

why the fuck is it that tv-show writers seem to think a ship can’t be interesting without a lot of break ups and drama like??? no! give me that healthy, long lasting relationship that is always there but not in the center of attention or the main storyline. i totally dig that, burry those nasty love-triangles deep deep down where nobody can find them ever again. please and thank you.

anonymous asked:

Maddie.......... who is chihoko.......

Hahaha okay I’ll try and sum it up! All of this information is courtesy denkimouse on Twitter so you should definitely go read their explanation as well!! They live-tweeted the event and shared a lot of great information! I’m going to be cutting a lot of details lololol

PSA: I just woke up and am still shook so if anything is inaccurate I apologize and please let me know!!!

At the event there was a stage-reading of a YOI story! Victor, Yuuri, and many others are in Hasetsu before a skating show and get drunk. Victor is helping Yuuri stretch and Yuuri says something, a bit slurred, about how “Chihoko is more flexible” than he is.

The next morning, Victor is missing! Yurio is mad and blames Yuuri, nobody can find him anywhere. Victor is naked and stretching on top of a castle, essentially trying to prove that he’s more flexible than this CHIHOKO PERSON. Yuuri is like “o my god.” Victor asks Yuuri to join him and Yuuri Katsuki actually strips off of his clothes and goes to stretch on top of the castle with Victor.

Tidbits:

  • Chihoko isn’t a real person, Victor just misheard him
  • People accused Yurio of getting rid of Victor because Yurio had show name ideas including “Yuri On Darkness, Yuri On Galaxy, etc.”
  • Seung-gil kissed Nishigori?? shook
  • When Yuuri woke up (the morning after getting drunk) “Overcome Chihoko” was written on his back
  • This:

Okay but you know what’s a trait of Keith’s that I want to hear more of?

Show me his attention to detail.

Everyone jokes about his “conspiracy board” but nobody seems to consider it’s not a conspiracy board? Like- he put a map down and figured out roughly where the energy source was, and then specifically went to locations and triangulated his weird brain sense to isolate it down to a specific area, and then when that led him to the caves, he took photographs of seemingly all the pictures he could find and used strings to mark their positions in what caves.

There was other stuff there we don’t know why he put up (something he later tore down, and a star chart) but none of this suggests he was making wild leaps of logic or conclusions about whatever it “must be” and his recounting of it is all incredibly matter-of-fact. Virtually nothing is conjecture except the safest ones- “like some kind of energy was telling me to search,” which is rooted in his experiences and not something he can quantify though he clearly tried as much as he could to do so- “they all appear to tell a slightly different story about a blue lion” would suggest that he went over those pictures and carefully compare/contrasted them.

This suggests Keith is actually good at making detailed observations, and recording and organizing them in a very clear-cut accessible manner. This may well have taken him months to put together but he’s able to present it very quickly and effectively to the team.

Seemingly, something reinforced, because right after he sees Ulaz’s weapon and hears about what it’s for, we see him privately comparing it to the symbol on his own weapon.

a word on dark fuck archie

so i’ve had this theory brewing in my head for a while re: riverdale - a show i am not watching, btw. i’m trying to figure out why, in 2017, a teen soap opera on the cw which is inarguably going for the queer teen demographic like a heat-seeking missile is utterly failing to deliver anything resembling real representation.

like, if you can air betty and veronica kissing, surely you can portray one or both as openly gay or bi? if you can explicitly depict jughead as asexual in the comics - have him say the word, even - what’s stopping him from being asexual on the show? if you’re going to insist your show isn’t “fanfiction,” why pad your show wall-to-wall with queer UST and beg fans to write fic about it?

so i’ve been puzzling all of this out, right, and up until now i’d just dismissed the show as pretty flagrant textbook queerbait.

but then today i saw a post that was like, discussing a storyline in which ms. grindy fucks archie - like, yes, in this show, the matronly senior citizen english teacher is a thirty-something predator who goes after her teenage students? - and the OP of the post was like, “do NOT blame archie andrews for this, blame the writers.” blame the writers. which struck me as an odd choice of phrasing. because we’re three weeks into this show. and the writers have apparently done nothing but make batshit, morally objectionable decisions. and because nobody watching or talking about this show appears to actually enjoy it?

and then it hit me: riverdale isn’t queerbait. oh, no. no, no, no. this is something we’ve never seen before, at least not on this scale.

it’s discourse bait.

there is no reason to believe that every single element of riverdale was not concocted in a corporate laboratory to bait teenagers into arguing about it online. first, lure social justice-minded kids in: diverse casting - polynesian archie, latina veronica, an all-black josie and the pussycats! hint at queer representation - betty and veronica kissing, kevin keller existing, barb from stranger things making an appearance and maybe being a lesbian?

so do all of that, promote the shit out of it, get your fanbase in order before the show’s even aired - and then blow it all to pieces from episode one.

why bother writing a plot when you could write the basis for a million furious micdotcom thinkpieces? why bother writing representation when hinting at representation and then ripping it away generates so much more twitter traffic? no such thing as bad publicity, right? a kid hate-watching the show is still watching the show and running up the ratings. every person who blogs about how shitty this show is inevitably inspires a few more people to go witness the trainwreck firsthand.

it’s like. a breathtakingly clever trap. and thousands and thousands of well-meaning young people have walked right into it. this show literally exists for no other purpose than to generate controversy in an age where teenagers who watch the CW also read bell hooks and foucault. fucking wild.

One morning Sirius Black saunters into the Great Hall with his hair in a bun and tie loose as can be. And he plonks himself down at the table and everyone just stares.

Because his neck is covered in hickeys.

And he’s all grins and showing them off like nobodies business.

And all the girls in the Hall are eyeing each other up like ‘Which one of you bitches got to do that? Fuck you why wasn’t it me…’

McGoangall just stares for second before averting her eyes. She can’t think of any rules he’s broken but Jesus Christ should that be allowed?

And James walks in, hand combing through his hair before he see. And he just raises he eyebrow and smiles.

‘Merlin Remus, get a bit carried away did we?’

And Remus is just siting there, red as tomato, wanting to die because it’s so embarrassing and someone is laughing oh no..

But secretly he is really fucking pleased with himself. Like, damn. I did that.

I don’t know man.. Wolfstar with hickeys just makes me happy.

I’m like a jigsaw puzzle nobody can put together because I purposely show different pieces of myself to different people. Nobody ever sees the whole picture… they never truly see ‘me’ in my entirety, just small aspects I have polished and refined enough to deem them ‘acceptable’ to put on show. I’m not ‘fake’… I am in fact very genuine but I keep a lot hidden because I know that knowledge is power… and it is only if you give someone the knowledge of who are in your entirety that you give them the power to hurt you.

i’m trying to learn how to be okay with being second. i tell myself at least you text me even if you text him first. i tell myself that i can fit all of my problems on the head of a pin, not having a best friend is hardly big enough to qualify as one of them. i tell myself that it’s easier this way anyway; i tell myself i’m busy with life and work or figuring out my shit. it’s just that sometimes i get lonely and i can’t really put my finger on why. it’s just that when it’s two in the morning i have no one to text about the nightmares. nobody wants to hear about them. it’s just i’d like to be special once. i know that’s selfish. but i feel like if i forgot to scoop myself out of bed and rotted here instead nobody would notice i didn’t show up. i feel like nobody cares if i show up. isn’t that terrible of me. isn’t that fucked up.

I Think We Made a Big Mistake

Lemme just start off by saying 2010 was a great year in animated shows. Unreal great. Like, seriously.

What

the

shit

happened

in

20

10?

To put this in perspective, about 2007-2009 wasn’t a stellar time for animated shows. The best one by far was Phineas and Ferb, and maybe … El Tigre (which had so much personality and life, but I haven’t seen since it aired so I can’t tell you how it holds up), but there wasn’t a lot of new stuff that lived up to the top contender.

Also important to remember is that in 2009, Cartoon Network briefly went insane and wanted to transition to more live-action shows or live-action/animation mixed like Out of Jimmy’s Head. None of these really held my attention, and it took airtime from the cartoons that could’ve come out.

We also could point out that Nickolodeon was well on its way to airing basically only Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents forever amen (as much as I love those shows).

Disney Channel hosted P&F, but other than that, pickings were getting slim.

So, realizing that, you’ve gotta understand how remarkable it is that we were getting so many good shows all at once again! It was unreal!

But it didn’t stop there, not even for a year.

2011 gave us families.

2012 gave us blends of story and comedy.

2013 gave us stellar characters in interstellar adventures (also the Mickey Mouse shorts, but that might not count).

2014 gave us surprises.

2015 gave us heart.

And this year? A return to form. What with the Loud House finally breaking Nickelodeon’s streak of poor nicktoons, Voltron keeping the action cartoon alive from the Avatar team we love, and the upcoming Milo Murphy’s Law from the creators of Phineas and Ferb.

There’s also shows like Mighty Magiswords and Long Live the Royals on the way that could just as easily make this list.

So the question remains. What the hell happened in 2010?

Well, I don’t know what caused all this, but I’ll tell you what happened.

Sym-Bionic Titan happened on Cartoon Network’s Toonami. And nobody told me.

When I stumbled on it way after the fact, I thought I remembered seeing something like that advertised when I was a kid. You know, early 2000s action show. I figured it got lost in the Beyblades, Ben 10s, and Yu-gi-Oh ripoffs, and I could at least make peace with that.

But then I find out this aired just a few years ago and I’m shit-pissed. aND MY OWN BEST FRIEND APPARENTLY WATCHED IT AND NEVER?? TOLD?? ME??

how dare you I instantly forgive you.

What I’m getting at is this is a high quality show. Really high quality.

The basic premise is summed up best here:

The three main characters include Ilana, princess of the royal family; Lance, a rebellious but capable soldier; and Octus, a bio-cybernetic robot, all of whom must now blend into everyday life in Sherman, Illinois. Posing as high school students, Lance and Octus work to conceal Princess Ilana from General Modula and his hideous space mutants sent to kill the sole heir of Galaluna.

When called into battle, the Galalunans are outfitted with individual armor that provides more than ample protection. It is when the gravest of danger appears that Octus activates the sym-bionic defense program and he, Ilana, and Lance unite “Heart, Body and Mind” and come together to form the spectacular cyber-giant Sym-Bionic Titan.

If that sounds great, it absolutely is. The characters are well-devloped, the story is front and center, there’s continuity between episodes– everything we’ve come to love in some of our modern favourites. So, my point is … why the hell was this left out of the cartoon revolution?

Well … honestly, I can’t figure it out. Advertising? Not enough cross-promotion in the daytime? Weak word of mouth? It’s certainly nothing the show did wrong.

Why Watch It?

Reason 1: HOLY SHIT, IT HAS A STORY

I’m not gonna spoil much more than the summary, but despite the fact that it takes place on Earth for the most part and focuses on week to week stories, the overall story is very much in the forefront at all times– and you know how rare that is even for shows that do story well.

Reason 2: HOLY SHIT, IT HAS GREAT CHARACTERS

I’ll let you discover them for yourself, it’s too much of a treat, but I’ll just say, you might fall in love. Again.

Oh, and Voltron fans?

We found their son.

Reason 3: This Guy

So, even if you’re too young for some of these, you might’ve heard something called Samuri Jack is getting a fifth season after 10 years … and it’s going to be on Adult Swim.

Yeah, it’s gonna be badass.

The important part to all this is that this dude does awesome design, awesome shows, and if you have respect for any of these properties, you know you’re in for a good time.

Which leads me to

Reason 4: The Animationjfsfksnfksafafsj

Between the lighting and the angular designs, I just don’t know what to do with myself. Is bootiful.

Watch the first few minutes there. You see what I mean, right?

Reason 5: It Deserved Better

We’ve championed so many great shows in the past few years, but for whatever reason, we missed one. A great one at that. If you have any love for the shows I listed, I highly recommend you give it a chance. Who knows? You might just find another favourite.

“When ‘She Looks So Perfect’ was released there were people at home I knew who were texting me. They were saying they’d heard our record in a club, or a shopping mall. It’s funny, we’d supported One Direction on a whole arena tour and did all those headline shows but nobody outside our close friends said anything about it. Then when they saw us on TV they were like, ‘Oh…my…god!’”

13 Reasons Why controversy

Because the response to 13 Reasons Why has been so controversial, I’d just like to point out some things.

As explained in 13 Reasons Why: Beyond the Reasons, the suicide scene was shown BECAUSE they wanted it to be painful for the audience to watch, as well as the rape scenes. Not because they wanted to be gruesome or inconsiderate, but because it is REALITY for so many people in the world and a lot of people like to pretend these things don’t exist or shield themselves from the reality of it; they ignore it because they’ve never gone through it, so they don’t care so much. So then when they see these scenes, they will be made uncomfortable and see what people are really truly experiencing and that it is not something that should at all be sugarcoated or ignored. IT IS REAL.

Secondly, for those saying it’s disgusting for them to show these scenes, THERE ARE WARNINGS AT THE BEGINNING OF THE EPISODES THAT SHOW RAPE AND/OR SUICIDE TO NOT WATCH IF IT WILL AFFECT THE VIEWER IN ANY WAY. These warnings are given specifically so that if you are not comfortable watching or believe it would cause a trigger, you should not even watch. So the fact that people are bashing the show for showing these scenes in relation to them being a trigger, the warnings are already made very clear in the beginning. They did take this step to make sure it wouldn’t just pop up and be any sort of triggers. The producers knew very well to be wary of that.
The show also worked with a lot of psychiatrists, psychologists, and leading experts in teen-suicide prevention. Though this still may not be enough for you to think they did everything right, they again did have the warnings. They are very aware that it could cause triggers and put some people in danger, but THAT IS WHAT THE WARNINGS ARE FOR. DO NOT WATCH IF IT COULD DANGER YOU. VIEWER’S DISCRETION IS ALWAYS ADVISED.

THE SHOW WAS NOT CREATED FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. IT IS TO SPREAD AWARENESS FOR ALL THE ISSUES (suicide, rape, bullying) AND POINT OUT HOW LITTLE THE SIGNS CAN BE AND HOW MUCH MORE CAREFUL AND HELPFUL EVERYONE IN THE WORLD NEEDS TO BE TO THE PEOPLE AROUND US. As also talked about in Beyond the Reasons, they want to promote teaching boys the proper ways to approach a girl and gain permission to become intimate with her, always getting the YES to teach boys respect for women. This is very important because as most people know, it has always been extremely hard for rape victims to get help because of the “what were you wearing” “were you flirting” “did you lead him on” “did you directly say no” arguments that are so wrongfully executed—instead, 13 Reasons Why knows that this is an issue, as somewhat shown in the scene with Mr. Porter as he questions Hannah. So in the after show, they speak about how parents need to be teaching their children more about consent and less about just protecting yourself, covering up, etc. They are aware that the real issue is with proper consent, and that is a very important message to get across.

Coming from someone who has battled depression and suicidal thoughts and attempts, I must also point out that EVERY SINGLE PERSON, EXPERIENCES, THOUGHTS, REACTIONS, ETC ARE DIFFERENT. What one person suffering depression thinks may be different than another. Hannah Baker’s story is very unique in many ways yet also extremely relatable in many ways to many, many people and girls around the world. JUST BECAUSE YOUR STORY MAY BE DIFFERENT DOES NOT MEAN HERS IS INCORRECT OR LESS/MORE THAN ANOTHER’S. There are a lot of people who can relate to feeling as though you are NOTHING and of no worth to the people around you, just a burden that only disappoints everyone and makes their lives worse. This is a very real state of being and depression and feeling of complete worthlessness that people can reach in their lives, especially some young teenage girls, like Hannah Baker, and even myself, that will lead to suicidal thoughts, attempts, or completely following through with, like Hannah. They believe the world and their loved ones would be better off without them. Again, as someone who has attempted suicide as a teenager and worked for years to fight depression and overcome it, I can say that while the suicide scene did make me uncomfortable and was extremely painful to watch, I was not offended. I knew of the warning at the beginning of the episode, read it, and continued to watch because EVERYONE HANDLES THESE THINGS DIFFERENTLY. I UNDERSTOOD the purpose of including the scene and making it so graphic and realistic. IT’S REALITY, THIS IS HAPPENING TO PEOPLE EVERYDAY AND IT SHOULD NOT BE SUGARCOATED OR SHIELDED FROM THE WORLD; it needs to be made more AWARE OF by those who like to turn a blind eye to it, but it is exposed WITH WARNING. So again, if some feel as though a scene like this would be a trigger, IT IS ADVISED YOU DO NOT WATCH. Everyone is affected differently and they did not just insert it with no consideration for the affect it could have on those battling the same wars as Hannah.

To say Clay was an easy solution and could have saved Hannah by loving her—no, he could not have saved her by just loving her, that is not what this story is even saying. Hannah does explain at the end of her last tape as she exits the school that some people cared, but she felt it was only mediocre, not enough for her to want to stay and feel NEEDED and truly LOVED. So no, they are not saying Clay could have kept her alive by simply loving her, or that love can save someone, it is much more complex than that. What they are saying is that people can care, but not showing how much they truly care can affect someone in the ways it affected Hannah. It was not just one boy’s love that could have saved her, but the love and care of many people, for them to show that they truly cared about her being alive and DID NOT see her as worthless, an object, just another person on earth. She needed to feel as though they NEEDED her to stay, that they genuinely cared about her as a person and that her life was truly worth something, because she did not feel it was. When Clay says he could have kept her alive if he wasn’t so afraid to tell her he loved her, he simply means he could have given her a sense of hope, a sense of belonging on the earth, that someone truly, whole-heartedly valued her life and her as a human being, not an object.

The actress who plays Jessica also explained that she reached out to a family member who is an actual rape survivor, and she stated that she was pleased that the show was “not shying away from the ugliness” of these scenes because viewers will see what these people really go through–again, another topic that is usually sugarcoated and instead needs to be addressed.

13 Reasons Why is a unique way of telling the story of a teenage girl who committed suicide, and the reasoning for bringing it to screen was MOSTLY to promote awareness and shine light on things that are not talked about enough that the youth suffers every single day, things adults see as “normal teenager struggles,” “small stuff,” “it only feels like the end of the world and really isn’t,” etc. This show is being spread more than even expected, and that is a very good thing for those who are in need of help and have parents or peers that once ignored their problems and will now tend to them.

**an issue cannot be tended to/made aware of/more properly prevented if it is just sugarcoated rather than slapped in people’s faces (those who don’t realize how severe it is) like this show does. it can really change things and leave an impact.

**if you are at risk for triggers and do not feel you are currently healthy enough to watch this show, please take care of yourself and do not watch. or, skip episodes 9, 12, and 13 and read up on them instead. these are the episodes that can be triggers for those at risk, if you weren’t yet aware.

**also feel free to stop by my inbox and talk to me if you need someone to talk to, or just would like to speak more on the subject.

a frigid place grew in me like a wound. nobody else could see it or hear it, this piece of me that angered and hurt and sucked down happiness in a thin straw, purple and oozing and awful. it is hard to say you’re hurting when the entire length of it is you, just you, just your body as the noose. go on, show me what’s eating you. oh, is that it? that that? just every inch of you?

The halftime was fast approaching and the Patriots struggled, facing the seemingly glorious Falcons.

“Don’t freak out. Relax, big boy,” you soothed, rubbing your boyfriend’s tensed back as he tapped his foot on the floor.

“How can we relax, Y/N?!” Scott, his brother told you and you rolled eyes, mentally noticing him he wasn’t helping at all.

Sometimes I hate being trans. A lot of the time, actually. While everyone else is moving forward, you’re feel like you’re waiting, waiting, waiting. For the next GIC appointment. For hormones to show any effect. For surgery. For the next surgery. For forms and reports and assessments to be filled out.

These things take weeks, months, years. Whole parts of your life get eaten away on waiting lists for services that are already stretched to their limit. And all the time you want everything to stop - to right itself in some magical overnight miracle. You spend nights crying and asking ‘why me?’ Why am I the one who has to be stuck here?

But you will get there. I promise you. Nobody knows patience like us trans folk. We have to be strong, mentally, emotionally and physically, because we are forced to be by our very nature. It’s something huge to bear and it’s okay if you’re not always okay. It isn’t fun, and it isn’t fair. And it’s okay to grieve - for being born with the wrong parts, or for all the times that your body restricted you in life - for the things you wish you had. Grieve if you need to.

There is light and dark to everything in life. Being trans is no exception. Keep going. Wait and fight and grieve and celebrate and live - in the way that only we trans people know how.

You’ll come out stronger in the end.

Arguing with non-black poc about how George Lopez telling a joke about how Latino folks have two rules, one of them being don’t bring a black person home, is actually anti-black as fuck and hearing them defend it by saying yes that’s just how it is and it’s not anti-black is wild

It’s also that last straw that really proved poc solidarity is bullshit and that brown folks will defend anti-blackness as a way to not actually address the affects of white supremacy on their relationship to blackness and how they treat black folks and I’m tired and I’m not taking that shit from white people so I’m definitely not dealing with it from nobody else

Y'all wanna claim rights to say nigga and bank off black culture and creativity all day but will show your ass with some racist ass comments about black folks in a heart beat and claim its culture.

Toxic Idol Culture

Anyone who’s followed me for a long time knows that I have… my issues with idol culture. I know this can possibly sound ironic considering I’m very popular here but at the end of the day I can’t help that so bear with me.

The reason I say “toxic” in the title (asides from being a strong word that immediately conveys a message) is because I’m addressing a specific subset of idol culture where people will vehemently defend someone’s horrible actions simply because they have a large following and/or pretend to care about topical issues like social justice and trans-rights (the latter being extremely important to my family, my friends, and recently myself).

It’s a shame because tumblr in general does seem at least somewhat more clued-in on how people abuse power (this ranges from world politcs to small corners of youtube), but this knowledge never seems to be applied to tumblr itself. There’s a cycle here, where someone is given disproportionate about of praise for arbitrary things (being a feminist, anti-nazi, or mildly funny, etc - all fine things on their own but hardly noteworthy), they get cocky and play into the role more, then start abusing others (doxxing, harassment, etc, usually of minors ironically enough).

This is partly why “funnymen” being outed as legitimate perverts and pedophiles is becoming increasingly common (or, at best, don’t believe the stuff they pedal out). Ultimately, it’s the person in question’s fault for being a scumbag of course, but tumblr’s unnecessary idolization of people who simply don’t deserve it has a large impact on what these people think they can get away with.

A large reason why this seems to happen is because nobody here seems to want to ask questions. A perfect example of this is when I receive messages warning me about an OP of a post being disgusting in some way, but when I investigate it turns out to be false.

However, it’s hard to fault anyone particularly for being a little bit gullible because ultimately we all want to be part of something. We all want to be liked, loved, and acknowledged. Asking questions, or otherwise being “difficult” can harm this so sometimes one might feel safer by saying “ok i’ll delete the post” rather than “can you show me some proof?”

It’s also a shame because, memes asides, tumblr is a pretty enjoyable website. At the moment of writing, there isn’t anything quite like it, but the experience is marred by people (and their imitators, especially) looking for cheap notes by exploiting serious political issues, where it is nearly impossible to say anything outside of ineffective self-indulgent feelgood “activism” without someone aggressively hating you for it.

For a website that houses a lot of people who claim to want to protect minors/transfolk/etc, there’s a startling neglect of how these people can be taken advantage of by the very same blogs that claim to help them. Anyone on this website can say anything but to actually practice what you preach is an entirely different story.

Interestingly, this is why you get certain “Hellsite” moments like someone complaining about getting hate after telling someone to kill themselves, or people posting things like “just be nice but also fuck [inoffensive group of people]”. Anyone who’s followed my blog for a while (or even just pays attention a little) know that this is hardly a rare occurrence. I think the term for this ‘cognitive dissonance’. This stuff makes good joke fodder, but it’s pretty sad that this stuff happens in the first place.

Toxic idol culture isn’t contained to just social justice circles either. Even opposite groups have become victim of this (maybe they always have, in retrospect). You may know that an ex-friend of mine recently shared suggestive photos of a 16 year old. Long story short, me and a lot of others were uncomfortable with this and promptly dropped them but I was mortified at how many anti-sjws came out in this dude’s defense over something that can only be considered objectively predatory and creepy. The person in question used tumblr’s liberal usage of bold accusations to wave-off what he had done, and his followers ate it up. It served as a important reminder that you can essentially get away with anything, as long as you have a significant follower count and frame your dissenters in a harsh, unrealistic light.

To anyone that defended/defends this guy, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Some are not above co-opting important social justice issues for internet points. A lot of time, it’s merely an avenue for them to be the very bullies they once hated but since it’s masked, the bullying is often ignored or encouraged. It’s easy to call someone a transphobe for an arbitrary reason, but it takes a considerable amount of effort to actually help a trans person in need. We should be doing more to support people who do the latter, rather than the former.

Anyway, the point of this post isn’t to make you paranoid, or to hate anyone with more than 3k followers (popular blogs make easy enough targets for hate anyway), but just to be a little more cautious and a little more critical of these kinds of people (who will inevitably get mad at this post and make passive-aggressive vagueposts about anyone who agrees), and to generally stop glorifying hateful blogs who’s main shtick is attacking people.

I realize, in the grand scheme of things like social justice and such, this is a small slice of the pie, but this is definitely something that needs to be thought about more.
