nobody ever does that

Hi. That Roadhog comic was really nice and made me and my brother cry. Thank you, nobody does cool stuff for Roadhog. Like EVER. Cheers, and bless you.

Thank you very much! I am glad you liked it (I’m sorry if it made you cry though!)

why does nobody ever talk about how the belief of “romance is the top priority” is so toxic and dangerous? how it causes more harm than good?

this doesn’t even just affect aromantic people. this belief harms anyone and everyone.

there are people that literally believe their life has no point because they don’t have a significant other. there’s mentally ill/neurodivergent people that think they’re worthless and meaningless and disgusting because they can’t find someone who wants to date them, even if they’re showered with love from their friends and/or family. but the love only counts if it’s romantic, right?

society is constantly perpetuating the idea that you were born to find a romantic partner and that romance is the only way to be truly happy, and it’s so messed up. this completely disregards other great moments in life, like personal achievements that make you feel like you’re on top of the world and the things nobody glorifies simply because it’s not romance.

your pet(s) pulling a smile out of you every time you see them. having a deep, emotional talk with a friend and being reminded that someone cares about you. enjoying alone time with yourself. reaching a milestone or getting through a hard time. these things are so wonderful and amazing, but it’s not romance, so it doesn’t matter, right? it’s boring and insignificant.

and it really shows when questions like “do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend yet?” and “have you settled down with someone yet?” are asked. it shows how society thinks romance is the most important thing to experience in life. the “yet” implies that romance is a requirement, that you’ll have to find it eventually. but what if you don’t want to? if you simply aren’t interested in that stuff right now or if you won’t ever be interested?

romance is not everything. remember that. you were not born to “find someone” or to “have a soulmate”. you don’t need romance in your life for it to be a good one. you are allowed to not include it in your priorities. it doesn’t matter if nobody has a crush on you or wants to date you. it literally doesn’t matter. that has absolutely no importance to your worth as a human being. you were not brought into this world to impress and find a potential mate. you’re here to live and to do what makes you happy.

romance can be nice, but it is not everything. please, please remember that.

Dear Self,

I know how you’ve been feeling today. Your life feels empty, and the sad truth is that you have nobody to blame for anything that’s happened . Unlike most people, you haven’t blamed yourself, because you know that you have done everything in your capacity to make things work, to make things happen. I know how ambitious you are, and you do everything you need to do to make your parents proud, to make them happy again. You have no one to share your pain with. Mainly since your pain isn’t because of some tragic accident or loss of life, neither is it because of a sappy breakup or a nasty flu.

But you can feel your true self breaking down a little bit more with every passing day. There’s so much you want to do and so much you want to achieve and you know that you have it in you, yet it’s always a dead end.

You look back in time and see a different version of yourself, someone you can’t recognize now. You have no idea how to define yourself any more. You were a social maniac and have always found yourself the most comfortable among people, lots and lots of people, friends, foes, family, strangers and you managed to plant a seed of memory into everyone you’ve ever met.

Now you’re uncomfortable to be around people, you repel even making a healthy eye contact with someone passing by. I know you aren’t scared or tense to interact with them - to ask how they’re doing, but you’ve lost the urge to make bonds anymore.

You’ve met all kinds of people, seen through each one of them but you’ve realized that no matter how well you know and understand them, you walk right into a boulder beyond which you cannot see, beyond which you know there’s a spot where all their weaknesses lie, and you peek between the brick walls and recoil back - you have seen the ugly side.

This side of them is nasty and no matter what is said or done following it, you’ve lost your trust, you just can’t go back to square one all over again. You know you can never be the same with them again. And as you walk away from them, you know they’ve taken off a small chunk out of you. These chunks total up to the whole of you and you lose yourself running away from them. You cannot risk losing anymore. So you walk alone, and everyday you die a little more.

You now focus on the few people you trust and you’d do anything for them. I know very well how greatly you suck at expressing your love towards these people, somehow you feel that if you reveal it to them you’ll lose the love you have for them, they’re eager and hope to hear it from you. Your family wants to hear you say that you love them. But you just cannot, because you’ve never learned how to. You’ve never told anyone confidently the way they show it movies, to confess love. You love them too much, it’s scary to say it out loud. But you show it in ways nobody ever does.

You have your own weird ways, only if they could listen. Only if they could listen when you scream at them and cry out of guilt the very next moment, when you swear at them now and internally curse yourself next, when you ignore them because you do not want to say you’re sorry, when you plan big to see them happy, when you struggle to smile even as you’re dying inside only so that they don’t sense your sadness.

You are scared to express that you are vulnerable and you are scared to admit that you are scared. You prefer to be an emotionless robot to them, because you’ll never be able to prove how much you really care. They distance themselves from you naturally, and again, you die a little bit inside.

But you know you’re amazing at being a lioness when you want to, your wounds make you stronger and that’s how you like seeing yourself - a lioness on the hunt. And you walk with all your pride as you walk by the people that you’d rather have by your side, again you die a little inside, yet you walk alone with all your pride.

Loads of Love,
Self.

❝ Then let’s run away. Right now. While we can still make it. ❞
❝ Now gimme your revolver, you’ll never use it anyway. ❞
❝ Let’s play dead, huh? Nobody ever does that anymore. ❞
❝ What are ya doing?! Wait up! ❞
❝ I’m gonna get you for this! ❞
❝ I’m sorry, it was an accident. ❞
❝ Have you no respect for the dead? ❞
❝ Where did you get this? ❞
❝ Two questions. Who the hell is Seti the First? And was he rich? ❞
❝ As the Americans would say: it’s all fairy tales and hokum. ❞
❝ I’m sure it was a fake, anyway. ❞
❝ You lied to me! ❞
❝ I lie to everybody, what makes you so special? ❞
❝ And what is he in prison for? ❞
❝ He said… he was just looking for a good time. ❞
❝ What did you find? What did you see? ❞
❝ Get me the hell outta here. ❞
❝ I will give you one hundred pounds to spare his life. ❞
❝ Yeah, I’d like ya to let me go. ❞
❝ Then we will kill her, we will kill her and all those with her. ❞
❝ For all the money we’re paying you, something better god-damned well be under that sand. ❞
❝ Do you really think he’ll show up? ❞
❝ Personally, I think he’s filthy, rude and a complete scoundrel. I don’t like him one bit. ❞
❝ I have come to protect my investment, thank you very much. ❞
❝ I only gamble with my life, never my money. ❞
❝ What makes you so confident, sir? ❞
❝ Sorry, didn’t mean to scare ya. ❞
❝ Still angry that I kissed ya, huh? ❞
❝ The last time I was at that place everybody I was with died.  ❞
❝ By the way,… why did you kiss me? ❞
❝ You always did have more balls than brains. ❞
❝ Can you swim? ❞
❝ Americans. ❞
❝ I can’t believe the price of these fleabags. ❞
❝ All night you snored!  ❞
❝ What in bloody hell is this? ❞
❝ Ah, begging your pardon, but shouldn’t we be going? ❞
❝ You boys owe me five hundred dollars. ❞
❝ Where’d all these camels come from? ❞
❝ That thing gives me the creeps. ❞
❝ What are those mirrors for? ❞
❝ Who cares? I don’t see no treasure. ❞
❝ You’re welcome to my share of the spider webs. ❞
❝ Mummies, my good son, this is where they made the mummies. ❞
❝ Ya scared the bejeezus out of us. ❞
❝ I’ve had worse. ❞
❝ Let’s be nice, children, if we’re going to play together, we must learn to share. ❞
❝And when those dirty Yanks go to sleep – No offence. ❞
❝ We’ll sneak up and steal that book right out from under them. ❞
❝ What do you suppose killed him? ❞
❝ I believe if I can see it and I  can touch it, then it’s real. That’s what I believe. ❞
❝ Why do you like to fight so much? ❞
❝ LEAVE THIS PLACE!… LEAVE THIS PLACE DIE! ❞
❝ For them to protect it like this, you just know there’s got to be treasure down there. ❞
❝ …I am a librarian! ❞

❝ You dream about dead guys? ❞
❝ Stupid superstitious bastard. ❞
❝ Oh my god, he was buried alive. ❞
❝ What are you going to do? Shoot him? ❞

❝ You saved me from the undead. For this, I shall make you immortal. ❞

❝ Okay, let’s cut to the chase. He’s afraid of cats, what’s that about? ❞
❝ The hell with that! I’m not goin’ nowhere! We’re safe here. ❞
❝ What friend? You’re my only friend. ❞

❝ Something about bringing his dead girly-friend back to life. He needs the book… ❞
❝ Ya know, ever since I met you, my luck has been for crap. ❞
❝ The hell with this. I’m goin, downstairs to get me a drink. You want somethin’? ❞
❝ Yeah, get me a glass of bourbon, a shot of bourbon and a bourbon chaser. ❞
❝ Jealous? You kiddin’ me? Did you see that guy’s face? ❞
❝ Is it dangerous? ❞
❝ Save the damsel in distress, kill the bad guy and steal his treasure. ❞

Why does nobody ever talk about how weird Maryland is?

Nobody ever talks about Maryland, period. It’s like they forget it’s a state. There’s no real stereotypes about people from Maryland, because it’s right in the middle of the east coast, EXCEPT everyone from Maryland is obsessed with crabs and Old Bay seasoning. You may think I’m exaggerating, but my friend’s brother used to actually drink Old Bay straight. The only time I ever saw my boyfriend look at me with anything other than pure love and respect was when I said that I thought crabs served in the shell were overrated. McDonalds in Maryland serves Filet-o-Fish WITH OLD BAY SEASONING. Once I saw a production of The Little Mermaid in Maryland, and the actor playing the chef sang “now some Old Bay!” instead of “now some flour,” and the audience burst into rapturous applause in the middle of the song. Old Bay is as essential to Marylanders as flour.

The official state sport of Maryland is jousting. No joke.

And once, I went to a McDonalds’ down the road from Camp David while George W. Bush was staying there, and there were free-range chickens who lived in the parking lot. It made me uncomfortable.

Edgar Allan Poe, John Waters, Frank Zappa, and F. Scott Fitzgerald are all  from Maryland. Oh, and John Wilkes Booth. Something weird is in the water there. My money’s on Old Bay.

One thing I always try to do is make a conscious effort to never greet a little girl with a compliment on her appearance/compliment her clothes and rather ask if she’s reading a book or what she’s learning in school or if she’s in any sports/activities, and since starting to do that it becomes so insanely obvious how nobody else does that? I don’t think I’ve ever been around a little girl and another adult and the other adult DOESNT comment on her hair or clothes or shoes or something right off the bat.

It must take a hell of a lot of conscious effort on both Jessica’s and Luke’s part to make sure the people around them don’t get hurt.

Like, people could easily hurt themselves on Luke, totally accidentally in normal interactions, but nobody ever does unless they’re actively trying to hurt him or somebody else at the time. He’s also super strong and never harms anybody that way, either. He’s gentle.

With Jessica, she’d have to constantly, constantly temper her extreme strength. Think of how Trish grew up being physically abused by her own mother, and then realise that both her and Jess touch a lot, and that Trish has ZERO fear of Jess harming her. Jessica is so strong, Jess has never hurt her. Nor anybody else.

Which i never really thought about till Kilgrave pulled his ‘my life is hard!! because of my powers!!!’ shit, and how hard it is not to use them on people because he has to think of it all the time!!!

Both of these two must put real thought into all of this and never say a single word about it, because they’re not shitty people.
