Is there any difference (personality wise) between DS! Dream and original Dream nowdays/not the younger ones (how do you few original Dream personality nowdays too)

There are major differences between classic Dream and DS!Dream regardless of age, and especially when they’re older. Frankly, the differences are intricate and specific enough that you’re better off just looking at everything I’ve posted tagged #swap dream rather than me trying to explain it all…

My perception of classic Dream does tend to differ with other people’s, since I quite dislike the way that most people interpret him… people typically say things like Dream is an innocent and adorable marshmallow, klutzy and pitiful, and needs to be protected, and blah blah blah, and I don’t see how that’s possible.

Dream is an adult, he’s been around for way longer than everyone else, and fricking heck, do you have any idea how much knowledge he could have if he’s been alive for that long, and been in the real world for that long? He’s suffered through numerous mistakes and has certainly learned from them. I can see him as being airheaded, but he’s not a naive little child. Dream should be interpreted as smart and able to solve problems, not the center of more problems. I can see him beating himself up for making the wrong choice, because he thinks he should know better by now.

Also, enough of the Dream doesn’t know swear words shindig, everyone. I think he chooses not to swear.

Additionally, people see Dream as too high-strung when he’s trying to be serious. Dream needs to have more relaxed behavior, but is hurting on the inside, and desperate to make sure people don’t know that he’s hurting, because he’s everyone’s hope, and he’s not supposed to show signs of weakness.

Anyway, rant about Dream’s character interpretation done XP

DS!Dream is quite different from this, yet there are still traces of it. DS!Dream refuses to show weakness. He’s ambitious and blinds himself with his own motives, trying to shut out his emotions to do what his logic tells him his right. He’s very mature, except only sort of, because deep inside, he hates losing.

I think the best way to understand his character the fastest is probably to read the dreamswap stories. It might not be enough for a complete understanding, but it’s a place to start at.

Fanfic Author Appreciation Day!

A special shout-out today to all those wonderful fanfic writers out there that share your incredible work. There are so many of you, I’m afraid I can’t possibly hope to remember to tag them all, but know with every reblog, every kudos, and comment that as a fellow author I know how hard it can sometimes be, and I love and appreciate everything you do. <3

I’d specifically like to thank:

@calamity-bean. We’ve not interacted much, but somehow when I was first getting started with this blog I stumbled across an Annlett gifset from your blog with no idea who either of them were and reblogged it simply because it was beautiful and my kind of aesthetic. An hour of research and YouTube clips and vids later I bought and marathoned season one so I could watch season two in tandem with the rest of the fandom. Your fics are incredible and encouraged me to try writing my first ever fic for a historical fiction setting. I owe all my Turn fics to you. Regardless of how the show ended and how disappointing an end for the pairing (which I fully intend to fix with fic when I’m able to stand writing them again), I will always love what this show did give us, and you for introducing me to it.

@ariannadi, your Arian is stunning. Such a wonderful and original character and your blog and your fics/prompts never fails to provide me with lots of Cullen-centric feels. Your blog inspired me to create a home blog for all of my beloved OCs and their stories. Perhaps even more importantly you as a blogger are always such an incredibly kind and positive force, the DA fandom is lucky to have you.

@seaweedredandbrown, my Newmann bff, what can I say that I haven’t so many times already, except that I’m so glad we reached out to one another and have become as good a friends as we have. I adore your writing. Am a little bit envious of your ability to world-build for AUs, and am forever grateful for all of your enthusiasm, love, and support with my writing endeavors.

I’d also like to thank some of the many writers whose lovely works I have enjoyed discovering through @dadrunkwriting and those that make up my #fic rec tag and I go back and read again and again: @brittleskyblue, @watsonshoneybee, @kauriart, @kingsmanhartwin, @jawsandbones, @kaerwrites, @imagineclintcoulson, @queen-culper, @acheesecakewrites, @gaysparkler, @badrowboats, @elfrooted, @iboatedhere, @le-petit-creationist, @vorchagirl, @elletromil, @gentlekingsmen, @trashbagauthor, @venvephe, @acoupletshort, @elsarenard, @missbeckywrites, @trilliath, @cordkitty-ish, @fatally-procrastinating, @thevikingwoman, @galadrieljones, @queensoledad, @dragynfox, @5ftgarden, @ma-sulevin, @grumblebee-trilogy

Lots of love today to all the fanfic writers out there for all the hard work you do and the beautiful things you share with us.

ok ok it's been like 2 years since I started following you. I remember being addiford trash when I was 12 and when I went through the tag tonight, I fell in love all over again. Thank you soo so much for helping me get into gravity falls and keep drawing. When you complimented my art that one time in 2015? It's gotten me so far. Hunter, you have no idea how much of an impact you had on me. Thank you so much. Seriously, I hope you're doing okay! Much love to you from a girl who looks up to you ❤❤

Thank you so much! I always love seeing asks like this. People like you seriously give me life, I am crying. Because there are many people who’ve been following me since the beginning. They’ve seen me experiment and figure out what the heck I’m doing and seen me struggle and keep going despite it. And knowing that I was able to make an impact on someone like that makes all of that worth it.

This may have already been asked- but how did you get the idea for this AU?

It was actually @cartooncommubackup‘s stream! She drew some portal AU stuff after the idea came up in the chat, which I thought was really cool. So I drew a picture and tagged her, and the rest is history. People from the original chat came up with their own headcanons and I got buttloads of asks for it, and then, amazingly, art and fics, and now we’re here! Thank you all btw <3

Reader x —

Summary: a bunch of different scenes of the reader and her roommate(s)

Chapter Summary: You meet your new roommate

Warnings: um…I used google translate for the word ‘сестра’ which (apparently) in Russian means ‘sister’…so, sorry if it’s wrong

Author’s Note: Hey guys! So, this fic is basically gonna be just a bunch of scenes with the reader and her roommate(s)…I mean that’s what I’m going to be going along with and each “chapter” will have a title to it, instead of just being called ‘chapter one…etc.’ Still not sure as to how this is going to play out (I don’t think this will be one of those series with an ending..) but just bear with me and I hope you guys like the idea and where I’m going with all of it :-)

But I guess I was never much of a writer (insp.)

@thunderboltsortofapenny said: No no let’s do this! Why would steve need to be fake married. Or why would bucky need to be fake married to Steve. We need a reason. #Viper do the thing #It’ll be fun!

So I did the thing, and it’s stupid and terrible, but here, have it:

Bucky’s an EMT. Normal guy, just living his life, trying to help where he can. And then one day, all of a sudden, the aliens are invading NYC, and Bucky’s out there helping, right in the middle of the danger zone because of course he is.

There’s a fight going on, and a bunch of freaks in weird suits seem to be fighting the aliens, but Bucky doesn’t have much time to focus on anything other than all the people in dire need of medical attention. He does what he can to help, grabs the first metal bar he can find and fights only the aliens getting in his way, and works himself to exhaustion. Then there’s a blast, and it sends a man flying right into the wall next to him.

“Hey, you okay?” Bucky asks, rushing to help him, and though Bucky could’ve sworn the blow was hard enough to crush anyone’s ribs, he’s surprised to see the man–who must’ve been on his way to a costume party–stand up practically unscathed.

He’s got broad shoulders and a strong jaw and eyes of the prettiest shade of blue Bucky’s ever seen, and even with his face covered in soot and grime and blood, Bucky’s heart skips a beat.

For a few seconds the man seems a bit disoriented, then he finally registers Bucky’s presence. “What are you doing here?? Get out of the streets!”

“I was–” Bucky starts, and is cut off by an explosion right above their heads and a bunch of debris raining down on them, and a hand shoving him aside.

When he comes to, which is a surprise in itself, the dust has started to clear, and the man who’s clearly saved his life is carrying him as if he weighed nothing, concern in those beautiful eyes and a big, warm hand pressed tenderly against Bucky’s neck, checking for a pulse.

He locks eyes with Bucky and sighs in relief, the hint of a smile on his plush lips, but the hand remains where it is. “Hi,” he says. “You all right?”

“Y-yeah… Thank you,” Bucky replies, but he doesn’t move to free himself of the man’s arms. His stomach is doing something weird, and the man surely has other people to rescue, but for a few seconds they both just stay there, shell-shocked and staring at each other like the world around them has stopped.

Then something blows up nearby, and the spell is broken.

Carefully, the man helps him to his feet, makes sure Bucky’s in one piece, and then says, “Find shelter, okay? Stay inside.”

Bucky’s not planning to, but he can’t find it in him to tell that to this incredible man, so he slowly licks his lips and nods. Before turning around to leave, the man offers him a small, shy smile.

During the next few weeks after the Chitauri attack on NYC, every single piece of footage of the Avengers fighting against the aliens and helping civilians goes viral. Phone videos, security cameras, blurry pics.

The most popular, by far, is a snapshot of Captain America carrying a guy, who can be seen fighting aliens and helping people in other videos, bridal style, thumb caressing his jaw, and both looking like lovestruck teenagers.

Bucky can’t go to the grocery store or even do his job without being stalked by the paparazzi or Cap’s groupies or just random people wanting to know what his Avenger name is, and for how long he’s been dating Captain America.

- - - - -

“You’ve ruined my life!!” Bucky tells him, because of course, of course Captain America would pick Bucky’s park for his morning run. Of course Bucky’d slip on wet leaves on the pavement precisely this morning, and of fucking course Captain America would just happen to be around to catch him at just the right time. Bucky’s seeing red.

“I’m sorry,” Captain America says, and it’s extremely unfair just how genuine and how much like a kicked puppy he looks.

Christ, Bucky wants to punch him.

- - - - -

Steve’s been living in PR hell.

He’s spent the past weeks “saving” girls and boys alike from getting hit by a bicycle, or fainting, or a fuckton of equally stupid shit.

The second anyone spots Captain America, there’ll suddenly be some kind of dangerous situation going down, and someone hoping Cap will carry them bridal style to safety and maybe fall head over heels in love with them in the process.

Steve is tired and done and ready to get back in the ice for another few decades, and shares Pepper’s worries that someone might actually put themself in real danger soon.

“We should handle this before it gets worse,” Nat says. And Steve agrees, of course, but he just doesn’t know how.

“Just marry the guy,” Clint suggests.

Steve almost chokes to death on his own spit.

“WHAT?”

Clint shrugs. “Why not? Half the world already thinks you’re dating…”

“Clint, he hates me…”

“Only cause people keep pestering him about this. If you two get married it’ll be a circus, but then it’ll blow over. He can’t even do his job right now, right? So you pay the guy for the trouble, yadda yadda, then when this is over you two get a quick divorce, and that’s it. Problem solved.”

For two minutes, no one else opens their mouth. Then:

“He’s got a point…”

“Tony, no,” Steve whines.

“You saw the footage, how he was helping those civilians… If you have to marry someone, he’s not a bad candidate,” Nat says, and then smirks. “Plus, he’s cute.”

Steve already knows he’s lost this battle, but that doesn’t help him feel any better about this. Yes, he’s cute. Yes, he’s a brave and kind and smart guy. Yes, Steve could very easily pretend to be married to him for a while and yes it’d help them both. None of that’s the problem.

The problem is that he kind of really likes the guy.

The problem is that the guy hates him.

This is a really, really bad idea.

How yoi plays with sports story scheme

I was wondering recently why Yuri on Ice seemed to be so different and fresh to me and why so many people get so emotionally engaged with it. There is definitely a nice animation and great characters and representation and such a beautiful love story but I felt like there was something in the narration layer that I couldn’t name until I compared yoi storyline to the most common schemes.

When you look at most of the pop cultural stories, especially those where main plot focuses on sport, you’ll see that there is that one scheme they all follow - you have a hero who has talent but lacks something (like a good mentor or hard work or confidence), he finds a motivation to win (it may be anything from parent’s death to wish to impress a girl) and he finds a dedicated coach, he trains, he loses, he learns something about himself, he wins, he gets an award. This is the basic way of constructing such stories and it’s catchy because we all want to believe that we are able to fight our weaknesses and win by ourselves. You may modify this scheme to a large extent but the main core will always be a single hero who needs to grow in order to win and actually I think that this scheme is present in Yuri on Ice but in Yurio’s not Yuuri’s story. Yurio has talent, lacks hard work and needs to learn something about himself, his skate-off with Yuuri gives him a motivation to win, he trains hard, he loses, he grows, he wins. This doesn’t make his story or his character less interesting but I wanted to give you an example of what am I talking about so I could compare it to Yuuri’s story.

So now, where is Yuuri’s plot different you could say. Well, in a way you could find all those elements in Yuuri’s story too but his development is where it all turns to be innovative. You see in the basic scheme the hero needs to learn to win by himself while Yuuri has got to that point a long time ago. He had all of that: his motivation, his hard work, most of his abilities, his own strength before he met Victor. He was fighting by himself for five years before and even if his anxiety makes him look like a weak loser it is obvious he is already beyond that “learning about myself” phase. Even this confidence Victor helps him to find he already had just hidden. Yuuri knows his emotions and some of his strengths and most of the weak points himself and either he wins or loses those minor competitions it doesn’t change him too deeply. But what Victor gives him is the belief that he doesn’t have to fight by himself anymore. Not in a “you can learn from other people” or “teamwork is important” kind of way (’cause they are still used in most of the stories) but in acknowledging that you may become better if you let someone close to you (this lesson applies to Victor to btw but he is not the main hero so I’ll skip this part).

I won’t say this reverses the scheme completely as this is still some kind of personal development that helps to win (though the fact that Yuuri does not finally win is interesting by itself) but it definitely changes the subtext of the whole story.  We like stories about heroes fighting by themselves because we often struggle with our problems alone and we need to believe me can do it. But Yuri on Ice gives us the idea that thought you are strong enough to fight maybe you don’t have to fight alone at all. I guess this is why it has such a great emotional impact because in a world that tells you all the time that it’s only for you to win the story of someone who still needed help even if he already was strong and beautiful is really hopeful, positive and in a way more realistic then the basic “hero can only win by himself” scheme.

There is also the whole layer of how Victor doesn’t fit to the standard portrayal of a mentor figure but I think this is quite easy to spot and maybe let’s not make this longer than it has to be but the last quick reflection I had is that the most common way of portraying romantic relationships in the sports stories is either when the hero needs to sacrifice his relationship in order to focus (which is the trope I personally hate) or when he wins the attention of his love interest by winning the final competition (so the love is somehow a reward then). What is great in Yuuri and Victor’s relationship is how Yuuri doesn’t have to win to prove his worth to Victor. Almost from the beginning, Victor knows Yuuri’s flaws and he falls for him anyway. So Yuuri is not only given support that helps him to become better but also he doesn’t need to earn that support. Which I think again is quite moving because everyone dreams of this kind of relationship. We are all scared that we are not good enough to let someone help us in the first place and this is where yoi tells us it doesn’t have to be this way.

I’m sure there are much more tropes that are reversed in yoi and there is the whole narration layer that is also quite original but as storytelling is what I have the most experience with I decided to focus on this aspect only. And I may be wrong I just like to find and discuss narration schemes so please argue if you disagree but I love the fact that even when yoi takes those basic narration schemes it uses it to send a very positive message across and for me it could be a reason why there is such an enthusiastic fandom around it - because this anime exchanges the story of fighting alone for a story about growing in a relationship though it does not change a sports story for a cheaply romantic one.

aqua things I wanna see in kh3

• aqua gets pulled from the RoD by sora, but she flips and thinks it’s vanitas at first
- they almost fight but kairi calms her down and makes sure she feels safe

• any kairi/aqua sisterly bond would be exactly what they both need tbh
- kairi tells aqua about how aquas magic kept her friends together during the events of kh1. aquas just glad she finally managed to save someone without it turning sour
- aqua helps kairi with key blade training, kairi helps aqua with getting back to a normal life

• aqua meets roxas, but thinks it’s ven at first. everyone’s confused.
- “ven you’re awake?” “master aqua, this is roxas. he’s sora’s nobody.” “what the hell is a nobody” “what the hell is a ven?”
- yen sid has to break out the chalkboard to explain while roxas sulks in the corner

• they into xemnas on an outing
- “terra!?” “That’s xemnas, master. He’s an evil nobody” “but aren’t they created when someone dies?” “…oh”
- xemnas and aqua both feed into each other’s cryptic-talking habits without even realizing it. nobody knows what they’re saying. the group reasons it’s because of the darkness
- they finally start connecting dots and filling in gaps in knowledge, and aqua has real hope that she’ll save her friends for the first time in a while

• on a mission with sora and roxas, they run across aquas old armor
- “hey it’s still here! but what am I gonna do with this old keyblade? I already have the master’s” “…We might have some ideas”
- square pls give me my duel-wielding spell-slinging ballet war goddess

feel free to add onto this!!
