night vale cosplay

So, after much work and a long day of con going, I was finally able to put together a complete set of pics of my Secret Police cosplay!
I am really happy how this turned out ya’ll. And I even got to take a picture with Jeffrey Cranor!

This set also includes close ups of the patches and the tickets I gave out, both of which were designed by me and custom ordered. The tickets are on actual carbon paper! very neat.

Overall, I am super super happy to finally wear this. It was just a ton of fun.

Alright guys! GIVEAWAY TIME.

I’ve been planning to do one of these for a while, but since someone inquired about them recently, I figured now is a good enough time to do it. I will be giving away 1 pair of hand painted Welcome to Nightvale Cosplay Headphones (as pictured above, possibly with a purple or white back-band instead of silver) They are working headphones, meaning you can use them to blast your bass and piss off everyone around you. They’re painted with enamel paint which means the design is water proof and chip resistant. They should handle wear and tear well.

I know you want them.

This is my way of saying thank you to everyone who follows and supports this blog! So, that means you HAVE to be following THIS blog in order to win them! You also have to REBLOG! You’re welcome to like the post, but likes will not count towards winning. You can reblog as many times as you’d like.

The winner will be chosen by a random number generator on Feb 25th 2014 and will be shipped (anywhere) as soon as I can extract the information from you :D (you must have open ask boxes on your blog so that I can notify you if you win!)

These headphones can NOT be bought from me, so this is your best chance of getting your hands on a pair of these. ^_~

Much love and luck from me to you!

Welcome to Night Vale - Interns United Only at Midoricon 2014 (September 5-7, 2014 at Maumee Bay State Park, Ohio)

“Hello, Night Vale.” as our favorite Cecil would say. Prepare to offer up your lives in forfeit to our beloved radio station in a most heinous fan tribute. If you love Welcome to Night Vale, you might want to consider joining this event as an intern.

Submit here: http://midoricon.com/index.php/events/welcome-to-night-vale-interns-united and be sure to share with other potentials. The studio goes through interns quickly, you know.

TUTORIAL: Microphone, Welcome To Night Vale

Time: 4-5 hours
Budget: $20 - $50 (I already had some of the supplies and tools)

NOTE: This project was quick and dirty. There are no progress pictures. Several steps could be done differently - I had to use the fastest methods. Feel free to adjust and experiment! :D (Brass or antiquing effects would also be neat! Also blood splatters, if you’re building for DBCR. >:D)

UPDATE: The DBCR Mic is now also a Thing Which Exists. :DDD

SUPPLIES

  • 4 ABS pipes (curved, ½ inch)
  • 2 Plumbing connectors - Straight (½ inch)
  • 1 Plumbing connector - T-shaped (½ inch)
  • 1 PVC pipe (½ inch - at least 5’)
  • 6 PVC clamps (½ inch)
  • 18 gauge aluminum wire (Wire in photo is NOT what I used!)
  • Silver spray paint
  • Black spray paint
  • Drain cover
  • Polystyrene sheeting (not pictured - Can substitute foam core or any stiff plastic sheet)
  • White craft foam, thin (not pictured)
  • Paper

WHERE TO BUY THIS STUFF: Lowes and JoAnn Fabrics. (The Polystyrene was from a role I ordered years ago and do not have the source. Really, any stiff plastic will do in a pinch.)

TOOLS

  • Scissors
  • Wire cutters
  • PVC pipe cutters/hacksaw (GET THE PVC CUTTERS. I can’t imagine how long this would have taken with a saw.)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Exacto knife
  • Heat gun (Not pictured - OPTIONAL if you want to bend the ABS pipes smaller)
  • Printer
  • NVCR logo (I made mine with Big Noodle Titling in Photoshop) - Download Here!

TO BUILD MICROPHONE

1.) Cut off the connecting ends of the ABS pipes so they will fit into the Plumbing connectors

2.) Connect 4 ABS pipes with Plumbing connectors (Essentially you are making a circle, the base to hold the “speaker”) Leave gap at the top.

OPTIONAL: Cut down ABS pipes to make a smaller circle. If they do not curve enough to meet connectors, soften with heat gun and CAREFULLY apply pressure until they curve enough to do so (This was a PAIN and I probably would not do it again…)

2.) Modify PVC clamps - PVC clamps are U-shaped, with connectors on each side. Cut off ONE of the loops on FOUR of them.

3.) Glue clamps to circle, one above and below the Straight connectors. Make sure the connectors are all facing INSIDE.

4.) Take Drain Cover and trace a circle on your Polystyrene that’s large enough to cover the back. Spray paint one side silver and one side black.

5.) Use the connectors to hang Drain Cover in center of microphone frame with Wire. (No real technique here, pretty much trial and error. Wrap it until it doesn’t fall off!)

6.) Spray paint Microphone, PVC pipe, and two extra PVC clamps silver

7.) Hot glue Polystyrene Drain Circle to back of Drain Cover (black inside, silver outside)

TO MAKE NVCR LOGO

1.) Size NVCR Logo in photo editing program. (Print test version to make sure it fits prop size.) Print out on paper.

2.) Cut out two pieces of Polystyrine that are larger then logo. Spray paint silver, let dry

3.) Cut letters out w/ Exacto Knife to make stencil

4.) Tape stencil to one of the Silver Polystyrene pieces. Spray over CAREFULLY with black spray paint.

5.) Cut down the two pieces of Polystyrene so your logo meets the edges

6.) Cut out piece of craft foam same size as the Polystyrene pieces. Glue NVCR logo on top, second Silver Polystyrene piece on bottom silver-side out. (Think of a sandwich)

ASSEMBLE

1.) Hot glue a silver PVC connector on each side of the gap at the top of your Microphone (Do NOT cut the loops off on these.)

2.) Hot glue NVCR logo to PVC connectors at top of Microphone

3.) Attach Microphone to top of PVC pipe

4.) Cut pipe height if needed

GO FORTH AND DO THE BROADCAST THING!
