• Jason: Nico? What was that?
  • Nico: Uh... That was Annabeth in the trunk.
  • Piper: Anna who?
  • Nico: My romantic rival Annabeth. She's tied up in the trunk. I'm doing as you said, Jason. I plan to gut her like a tandoori fish, then dump her carcass on Percy's doorstep.
  • Jason: [to Piper] I did not tell him to do that. Absolutely no. It got lost in translation.
  • Jason: Nico, this is no way to win Percy's heart!
  • Jason: [whispers] I'm so proud of you.
  • Jason: Drop Annabeth off, safe and gentle-like.
  • Jason: [whispers] Kill her.
  • Jason: And then, win Percy the old fashioned way: with your boyish charm.
  • Jason: [whispers] Kidnap him.

I request Will volunteering to go on a quest because he wants to impress Nico/ compete with the seven and Nico being NOT Pleased he put himself in danger

“What do you mean “you’re going on a quest”?“ Nico said, his voice deathly low; a steel undercurrent accompanied by the rumbling of the earth beneath them. "Tell me you’re joking. Tell me you’re not actually this stupid.”

Will hesitated, his blue eyes showing not fear but concern at how much power Nico was exerting. “You shouldn’t do that, Nico. You might relapse again. You’re not fully healed.”

Nico clenched his jaw, a crack slowly beginning to form from beneath his soiled converse. “Don’t change the conversation, Will. This isn’t about me.”

He took a step forward, the crack widening with every step he took, following him like a loose string trails behind a sweater.

“Are you crazy,” he asked. “Psychotic? You’re not a fighter, Will. You’re going to get yourself killed.”

Will stilled, shoulders squaring with unexpressed emotion, a fluid motion of tension flowing over his body. He knew he shouldn’t say it, shouldn’t let him know it was bothering him. It would only make it worse, but that didn’t stop it from escaping his parted lips like water through cupped palms. “You mean I’m not good enough.”

Nico looked up with a jerk of his head. “What are you talking about,” he asked, shaking his head slightly as the grass beneath him continued to die.

“You know exactly what I’m talking about,” Will said. “You know I’m weak. Everyone here knows I’m weak. Hell, even your friends, especially your friends, don’t know why a guy like me is with you. How can I…” he took a breath, his voice wavering, “How can I possibly keep you safe if I can’t even keep myself safe on a quest? How can I be there for you? Protect you? You don’t need me, Nico. And if I can’t do this then…why would you want me?”

All at once the rumbling stopped, the once deep gash closing in on itself without warning, slowly eliminating any evidence it was once open.

“Will,” Nico whispered desperately. “Do you really think that?”

Will nodded with a gulp. “Yeah,” he mumbled and cleared his throat, rubbing a hasty hand across his eyes. “Yeah. I do.”

Nico approached him again, this time at a brisk walk, before cupping his face in his smaller hands. “Will. I don’t care about any of that. What you look like, who your parent is, what you can do and what you can’t do. All of it can be nonexistent for all I care. I just want you. You and only you. You are not defined by your ability with a sword and a prophecy, Sunshine. You’re defined by the choices you make. And honestly?” Nico laughed gently. “Going on a quest is a pretty stupid one.”

Will swallowed, a light blush coating his cheeks. “But I can’t-”

“Will,” Nico said firmly. “Shut up.”

“Ssshhh,” he whispered. “Doctor’s orders.”

Nico leaned in slowly, his face tilted at just the right angle so that Will noticed the light dusting of soft freckles across the bridge of his nose and the way that when he closed his eyes, his eyebrows crumbled to create small crinkles in between them.

Screw the quest, Will thought. He had all he needed right here.

You Are My Sunshine

Attention, this will be sad and full of feels. You have been warned, proceed with caution.

Nico panted, with a wave of his hand, the army of skeletons surrounding him disappeared. He looked down at himself, he looked faded, ghost-like.

He frowned, this was it, he’d used up too much of his power. He was going to fade. It was worth it though, no one else had died.

No one else deserved it.

Now, there was only one thought going through his head, he had to tell Will.

He dragged himself to a nearby tree and took out his cell phone. For emergencies, Nico knew perfectly well that this would attract monsters. Everyone else had left though, no one had noticed him, not yet.

If this wasn’t an emergency, he didn’t know what was. So he called Will, and waited.

Back at Camp Half-blood, Will heard his phone ring and a feeling of dread washed over him.

No one called unless someone was heavily injured, or worse. He checked who it was, Nico. “No, please let him be ok.” He whispered and answered the call.

“Nico! Are you ok?”

“Yeah, everything’s, ok. For now.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I’m fading out.”

Will froze, this was worse than he’d expected. “Where are you? Just hold on-”

“Will, I’m too far away. You’d never get here in time. Look, I just called because. Ugh, I’m not good with emotional stuff.”

Will could feel tears threatening to fall, “Nico, you idiot.” His voice wavered, “You lovable idiot.”

Nico sighed, starting to cry as well, but he kept his voice steady. “Hey, it’s ok. I-I’ll talk to my dad, I’ll be back.”

“You better come back, doctor’s orders.” They both knew it didn’t work like that.

“Of course, Will, I don’t say this enough but, thank you.”

“For what? I can’t save you now.”

“No, but you’ve saved me countless times before. So, thank you. Thank you.”

Will angrily wiped away his tears, “Are you hurting?”

“Physically, no. I’m just, exhausted. Emotionally, more than you could imagine.”

“I think I can imagine it just fine.”

“One last thing, Will.” He was starting to have trouble holding onto the phone and the roar of a monster sounded in the distance.

“Yes, Nico?”

“You’ve always said you wanted me to sing more.”

He took a deep breath and began to sing, “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey.”

“For someone on his death bed, you have a beautiful voice.” Will whispered.

“You’ll never know dear how much I love you…” But before he could finish, the phone tumbled through his fingers and Nico diAngelo. Faded out of existence.

“Nico? Nico!” Will shouted, tears flowing freely now. He sank to the floor in despair, still clutching the phone.

Fits of crying shook his body and he finished the song for his best friend, his boyfriend. “Please don’t take, my sunshine away.”

Secondary Check

A/N: A tradition in my family is that we all must become (basic) first aid certified. My younger brother is working on getting his, and I was reading through one of his books when I came across secondary checking. I know what it is, of course, as I am certified myself; but rereading the procedure made me think about how awful it would tickle if used gently. Solangelo is literally my joy in life, so I used them in this fic. It’s based… shortly after the Heroes of Olympus series, I guess?

(Also, I’m sorry I haven’t written anything in a while… please accept my apology along with this mediocre fic.)

“Please, Nico?”

“Oh, come on-”

“I said no!”

Will huffed at his boyfriend, annoyed with his stubbornness.

“Nico, I just want to practice secondary checking. Is that so wrong?” Will asked, crossing his arms. “No, but I don’t want to be your guinea pig!” Nico responded, crossing his arms as well.

“You make it sound like I’m some evil scientist,” Will mumbled, rolling his eyes.

“You could be! We just got together, I don’t know what you’re capable of yet,” Nico retorted in a sassy tone, and Will couldn’t help but smile. Nico was just so cute when he tried to act all stubborn and tough.

In consideration of recent events, Will had decided he wanted to completely perfect his first aid; he had been practicing on everyone, constantly asking other campers to be his next “victim”. Hey, is it a crime for a medic to make sure they know what they’re doing?

“Come on, just once? I want to really know what I’m doing. Son of the god of healing or not, I need to review stuff!”

With a sigh, Nico looked up at his boyfriend and rolled his dark eyes. “Fine, but just because you’re annoying me, and doing this will make you shut up. And only once!” He reminded as Will gave him a bright grin.

“Yeah, yeah.”

// Nico DiAngelo, son of Hades //

“Nico was only ten, or maybe eleven by now, but he looked older. His hair had grown longer. It was shaggy and almost touched his shoulders. His eyes were dark. His olive skin had turned paler. He wore ripped black jeans and a battered aviator’s jacket that was several sizes too big, unzipped over a black shirt. His face was grimy, his eyes a little wild. He looked like a kid who’d been living on the streets.”
// Will Solace, son of Apollo //

“Will’s shaggy blond hair and pale blue eyes reminded Nico of Jason Grace, but the similarities ended there.
Jason was a fighter. You could tell from the intensity of his stare, his constant alertness, the coiled-up energy in his frame. Will Solace was more like a lanky cat stretched out in the sunshine. His movements were relaxed and nonthreatening, his gaze soft and far away. In his faded SURF BARBADOS T-shirt, his cutoff shorts and flip-flops, he looked about as unaggressive as a demigod could get, but Nico knew he was brave under fire. During the Battle of Manhattan, Nico had seen him in action – the camp’s best combat medic, risking his life to save wounded campers.”

“Nico, hey, um… are you leaving?”

“Yeah, why?”

“I was going to ask that, why are you leaving?”

“I don’t feel like home here. I guess I’ll just wonder around, as I did before the war and everything”

“How are you going to feel home in a place if you don’t even stay there for more than a week? You’re not giving this place a chance”

“Oh, trust me, I did give Camp Half-Blood a chance. It didn’t work”

“Don’t you believe in second chances?”

“Why are you so determined on me staying here? Why do you care?”

“I-I think everyone deserves a family. A home”

“You want to be my family?”

“I-I wouldn’t mind, honestly”

Nico di angelo kissing Will Solace because he just couldn’t hold himself anymore.
