next level plays

Thinks about all the little make-the-wolf-statues’-eyes-glow puzzles Solas set up for the Inquisitor to solve in Trespasser - (that one where you light the Veilfire torches in front of the god statues in the order a riddle says, the one where you light the torch that Fen'Harel is looking at to reveal a secret passage, the one where the Fen'Harel statue turns when you aren’t looking, the one where you light the torches under a time limit, etc etc)

Some of them even give you special, excellent weapons for solving them - Solas created these little puzzles, and put those weapons in the boxes as rewards in case you put in the effort to engage with them and solve them. (I got emotional when my Lavellan equipped the Arrowwood Bow he gave her)

It’s like the Inquisitor is always rewarded for the most negligible efforts of engaging with or humoring Solas. Talking and listening to him like an equal, doing his little puzzles… just do these minimum things, and he’ll give you information and good weapons to fight him with. He’s genuinely arming you, while rewarding you the more you humor him.

So in conclusion 1) Solas gives moderately engaged Inquisitors weapons 2) Solas likes to communicate through little puzzles 3) Solas would probably make a great Dungeon Master

so yeah its not like Trump is playing next level 12th dimensional chess or anything but i do think its interesting how explicitly antagonistic and hostile he is with the media bc it ends up forcing something like CNN (which is an interesting example bc pre-Trump they often tried to present themselves as more of a “centrist news channel” ) into reacting by also being explicitly antagonistic with Trump so like he forces the media into a position where they have to adopt a biased position bc he’s personally attacking them and he can then complain about the media being biased

Change Of Pace (Sal/Larry)

“Ugh, it’s like I’m never going to beat this level,” Sal groaned, laying back on Larry’s bed, “it’s impossible.”

“Have you tried seeing it from a new angle?” Larry asked, smiling down at his blue-haired friend. “Doing that has helped me with art. So I don’t see why it can’t help you with your game.”

Sal stared at his friend, examining every detail. Every adorable freckle adorning Larry’s face, they looked like stars. Like you could connect them and see constellations. He was almost glad Larry couldn’t see the smile on his face, but at the same time he wanted him to see it. He wanted Larry to know how much he loved those freckles.

“Hey, earth to Sally Face, you there?” Larry asked, waving a hand in front of Sal’s face. It snapped Sal out of his thoughts, back into the real world.

“Sally Face to Freckle Face, yes I’m here, I was just.. thinking,” Sal answered, almost missing the flash of hurt in Larry’s eyes from the nickname ‘Freckle Face’.

“..oh, anyways, as I was saying, really you should try to look at the level from a new angle, try a different route. Lemme see it,” Larry said, holding out a hand. Sal handed him the game, sighing. He watched as Larry focused on the game. Within just a few minutes, at least two, Larry had beaten the level for him.

“How did you..” Sal whispered, being handed back the game.

“Like I said, new angle,” Larry said, smiling at Sal. He laid beside Sal, staring at the ceiling.

“Hey, Freckles,” Sal says to Larry, “think you can do the next level too?”

“Hell yeah,” Larry replies, taking the game again, “bet I can beat this whole game.”

“That’s a bet,” Sal chuckles, he would be lying if he didn’t hear the hurt in his friend’s voice when he pointed out his freckles.

“Ten dollars says I can beat this game,” Larry laughs, already speeding through the next level. Sal watched Larry play the game for hours, until they both realized what time it is.

“Dude, shouldn’t you be getting back to your apartment now?” Larry asked, “It’s like ten thirty, I think.”

“Oh is it really?” Sal replied, looking for a clock. He found the one on Larry’s nightstand, and it displayed 10:30 pm. “I should be getting home.”

“Yeah,” Larry almost whispered, he gave Sal a small smile. Sal gathered his things, saying goodbye to Larry before going back to his own apartment. Almost the second Sal was out of sight, Larry sighed. He glanced around his room until his eyes locked onto a familiar sight— his own face. The freckles that he hated, the nose that was just too big, that looked weird, and the mole under his right eye.

That night, he went to sleep with his own thoughts, ones he didn’t like. The ones that told him everything bad about his appearance. He wondered if Sal only played the part of his best friend out of pity. He almost believed it.

——

The next morning when Sal returned, he noticed something off with Larry almost immediately. He noticed how the taller boy seemed to over think his actions, how he bounced his leg nervously. Larry had headphones plugged into some crappy mp3, but it wasn’t blasting a loud metal song. Instead, it sounded like something much calmer.

That was the weirdest part. Larry was almost always listening to metal, it seemed to be the only genre of music he really liked. Larry also seemed to switch through the songs rapidly, seemingly trying to find the perfect one. Sal was about to ask him what was going on, why he was acting differently, until Larry seemed to randomly blurt out a question.

“Hey, do you know how to dance?” Larry had asked, fidgeting with his fingers. “L-like, slow dance, I mean?”

“No, not really,” Sal said, swearing he had heard Larry stutter. “Why?”

“I-uh.. I could teach you i-if you wanted.” Larry answered. And he stuttered. And oh god, it was adorable.

“Yeah, if you want to. I’m up for it.” Sal smiled. “Teach me.”

Larry smiled back, standing and holding out his hand. Sal took it, being pulled up. Larry ran over to a speaker he owned, plugging his mp3 into it before playing the song he was listening to. It was much calmer than the usual songs Larry listened to, much, much calmer.

As Larry showed Sal what to do, and as time passed, their movements seemed to mold into one. Everything got a lot more comfortable, even if Sal sometimes misstepped. Eventually, Sal was nearly as good as Larry. At least, that’s the way he’d put it.

“This is surprisingly fun,” Sal whispered, just loud enough for Larry to hear.

“I know,” Larry whispered back. “That’s why I wanted to show it to you.”

“Hey, Larry,” Sal whispered, “I.. you’re my best friend, and I.. I think your freckles are beautiful. And your eyes, and just everything about you. I love you.”

Larry froze, and Sal looked up almost reluctantly. What Sal saw almost surprised him. Larry was looking at him with a look of disbelief, before he whispered just four words.

 “I love you too.”

Sal smiled under the mask, even though he knew Larry couldn’t see it. “C-can you close your eyes and lean down a bit?” Sal asked, feeling his face heat up beneath his mask. Larry did as asked, but he was still a bit surprised when he felt Sal’s scarred lips on his own. He kissed back.

After a moment, Sal pulled away, readjusting his mask so his face was hidden again. Larry opened his eyes, and couldn’t stop a grin from slipping onto his face.

“I love you,” Sal said once more, “and.. I know you don’t like me pointing out your freckles. I’m sorry for that, I was kinda a dick.”

“I love you too,” Larry replied, “and it’s alright. I know you most likely didn’t mean anything by it. I.. I’m just insecure about them.”

“They’re pretty. They’re.. beautiful. They look like stars, there’s no way to describe how beautiful they are with words.”

 “You think so?”

 “Yeah, I do.”

Community Building

MindQuake is laying the cornerstone on a brand new foundation that we are creating together. It gives me the warm fuzzies to know that our attic is clean and that we can put what we want up there, and leave the trash on the doorstep.

Our desire is a consent driven erotic hypnosis conference seeped in our San Francisco Bay area roots. We are kinky here. This is hypno-kink. We strive to ensure best practices from start to finish. That means the highest levels of consent, taught by experts in the erotic hypnosis field.; providing premium content from vetted presenters; and of course, next level hypnosis and BDSM play. If this is your first conference, or you are presenting for the hundredth time, you are going to have a fucking good time at MindQuake. We will take care of our guests, our presenters, and our volunteers, because it’s going to be more fun that way. We have the luxury of being able to invite our guests from all over and welcome them to San Francisco. We love this city and our hypnosis scene and think it is just a great place to host.

We are not just the “anti” con. And we hate to waste our breath on this. We are our own entity and don’t really hold ourselves to that bar, which feels pretty low if it’s only clearance is “not them.” Our bar is lofty, and while so much will be the same and familiar to erotic hypno con goers and enthusiasts, we will have our own unique flavor.

We are excited at all the support the hypnosis community has shown us. This is a lot of work and it is very energizing to have so much backing. We want to remind everyone that there are some other GREAT cons between now and MindQuake. The organizers are planning to be at Charmed! And Entranced (life permitting) and hope everyone else does too. Thank you for your welcome and plans to attend, we are holding you to it!

PS News on the venue and dates are set to drop so soon we can barely stand it ❤️

anonymous asked:

can i ask for your critique on torture porn? i really like the way you put it in the post about eli roth and i feel like you could explain it rly well as a horror and Ideology expert

Omg sure I can try to explain it a bit! Content warning for descriptions of horror violence and sexual dehumanization.

What I mean when I say “torture porn” is the specific way that certain horror movies shoot gore and violence scenes. It is more than body horror, it is more than gross out gore: it is designed to titillate. The camera sensually scans up over someones body as something horrible is done to her (almost always female). The body, usually torso, is penetrated with an object and the body is opened and changed by it. The body is always framed in fragments, not as a full human being, which is also how sexual objectification of the female body works in all misogynistic media. Now, slasher type movies have always had an element (understatement!) of sexualizing violence against women. Modern torture porn style movies, though, are the logical next level, playing for a desensitized male audience that almost universally consumes porn at astronomical rates. No, I’m not saying that this kind of horror movie is designed to literally make guys jack off to torture in the same way that they do to the torture in actual pornography. It is however probably activating the same part of their brains because of the way it’s shot, linking sex to violence in a pretty obvious way. 1970s exploitation films with sexual violence matched the techniques used in porno made then too.

All this said, “Torture porn” as a phrase is also used to describe pretty much any tasteless and graphic gore fest, and not just the ones that are sexualized by the camera, but I think that’s a misnomer - the popular usage of the phrase is meant to draw a connection between the commonality of porn and gore film of not having any artistic merit, story, or message, while I use the term to draw the connection between the two of objectifying the female body and sexualizing violence that’s done upon it.

Alaska’s Birthday

Adore, Alaska, April, Bianca, Courtney, Milk, Pearl, Violet, Sharon and Willam.

“Okay everyone, sit down in a circle and let’s play truth or dare” Alaska says and the tipsy girls get together, almost all of them holding a cup and laughing. Violet sits and holds Pearl’s hand, helping her to sit down and not fall. Bianca sits between Adore and Courtney, Willam next to Sharon followed by April and Milk. And Alaska, closing the circle. “I go first, where’s the bottle?”

Cheo Hodari Coker Talks About Luke Cage

Luke Cage creator Cheo Hodari Coker talks to BlackTree TV about the show, Mahershala Ali and his latest choices in binge-watching. When asked what he wanted for season 2 Coker told Mashable:

“Just bulletproof dopeness”  and he also used A Tribe Called Quest; “The analogy I say is that, I want Season 2 to be ‘The Low End Theory. Low End Theory, if you’re a hip-hop fan, you know that that’s A Tribe Called Quest’s second record. The first record,  People’s Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, was great, but then Low End Theory was the record that everyone says … when they think of A Tribe Called Quest taking it to the next level.”

Mike Colter, who plays the role of Luke Cage, hopes to see the show’s new season out early next year.
