Same au as the argument one. Trini gets hurt and Kim goes all protective freak out girlfriend
Thanks for the prompt!
Trini isn’t one for looking after people, and it’s not because she doesn’t care; sometimes she was so distracted with everything going on around her that she simply doesn’t remember to check up on them. It’s the reason why she doesn’t blame anyone when they don’t notice her lagging behind. It’s getting harder for her to breathe, her chest feels like someone was standing on it, her eyes blurry as a headache bounces around in her head. She stumbles for a few more steps before her eyes roll to the back of her head, her legs giving out as she collapses.
“Kimberly,” it’s a hushed whisper, but she doesn’t turn to look at Jason, her eyes trained on the girl in the hospital bed. “You should go home.”
She shakes her head because, no, she doesn’t want to go anywhere that isn’t near Trini. This was all her fault, anyway, she hadn’t been paying attention after they had finished fighting; she had been talking with Billy about how to make her arrows explode when they hit their target when they had noticed Trini wasn’t with them. Had she been paying attention, maybe she would have gotten her help sooner. So she doesn’t turn her head, just keeps her eyes on the still figure laying on the hospital bed, afraid that if she looks away, the other girl might disappear.
“Kim,” Jason tries again, his voice gentle as he looks at her from the door, but she simply shakes her head. She hears him sigh before he walks out of the hospital room, his head hung as he walked down the hallway to meat up with the other guys. She settles herself into her seat, making herself as comfortable as she can before grabbing the other girl’s hand. She lets her thumb stroke smooth tan skin as her eyes trace the dark halo around the other girl’s face, Trini’s brown hair going every which way on her pillow, but she lets her eyes trail to the white bandage wrapping around her forehead, and she can’t help but frown.
Kimberly doesn’t know when the Latina had hit her head during the fight, but the doctor had said Trini’s brain swelling had been caused by a hard hit to the head, the girl’s air circulation had stopped and caused her to black out - they made sure not to tell the doctors they had ran over with Trini in Kimberly’s arms when he asked how they managed to get there on time.
“I’m so sorry.” Kimberly whispers into the quiet room, her thumb still stroking tan skin as worry swirls in her eyes, her stomach coiling with tension as she sits by the girl’s hospital bed, waiting impatiently for the ranger to wake up. She hates the quiet that surrounds them, makes her think something is trying to sneak up on her, makes her realize she’s alone with her thoughts - with her guilt. She shifts in her chair, running her fingers through her hair, a frustrated huff escaping her lips as she bows her head.
She figures she should get some rest before Trini’s family comes, Trini’s parents leaving April Grove tomorrow, giving them enough time to find someone who’ll stay with Trini’s brothers.
She lets a frustrated huff escape her lips as she lifts her head, looking at her girlfriend as she bites her lower lip with worry. Kimberly stands, unable to stay still for long, and shuffles forward until she’s standing beside a sleeping Trini, the heavy feeling in her chest unwavering as she sees the IV Trini had in her arm, the cables for the EKG machine doing their job as the sound of Trini’s beating heart calms her enough not to be in tears..
“Wake up soon, yeah?” Kimberly whispers - pleads - as she bends down and kisses Trini’s forehead, frowning when her lips meat heated skin. She takes her seat and waits.
“You should be at school.” Trini says with an eye roll as she watches Kimberly walk through the door of their bedroom. Kimberly doesn’t reply, just waves her off and walks closer, bending down to press a kiss against her lips. Trini smiles when Kimberly seems to take a step back before pecking her lips one more time, almost as if once was not enough.
“How are you feeling?” Kimberly asks instead, taking a seat at the edge of Trini’s bed, brushing a strand of black hair behind her ear as she watches the shorter girl struggle to sit up. There’s worry in her eyes, but she doesn’t help - she doesn’t need another angry rant about Trini being strong enough to do a few things by herself.
Trini groans, but she doesn’t realize it until Kimberly’s brown eyes fill to the brim with worry.
“That bad, huh?” Kimberly asks as she smiles, but Trini can see the concern that cloud brown eyes, and she hates seeing it there. She can tell her girlfriend was stressed out about the fact that she’s still having trouble with her health, but there wasn’t much she could do. At least her ranger powers were helping her heal a little faster. She had woken up the next morning and had been sent home three days later with the doctors questioning how she was able to heal so quickly.
“I’m fine, just a small headache.” Trini says as she tries to wave off the worried brown eyes.
“Do you need something? When did you last take your pain medicine? You should have taken it for breakfast, right? That was probably around..” Kimberly takes a second to think before she’s rambling again, “eight? and it’s one?”
Trini just raises an amused smile because this has been her girlfriend for the last two weeks. She grabs Kimberly’s hand when she notices the other girl was about to stand. “Will you relax?” She tugs on Kim’s hand until the other girl sits down reluctantly. “I don’t want anything, and you’ve only been gone for a couple hours.”
“Why not?” The question is shot quickly, brown eyes skimming over Trini’s body as her brows furrow.
“The medicine makes me feel funny.” Trini excuses, tugging at the girl’s hand again, but Kimberly doesn’t budge, a tentative look crossing her face.
“Okay, so do you want ice or your heating pad?” Kimberly says, getting ready to stand before Trini tugs again. “What? Do you want Tylenol or Advil?”
“Will you please just sit with me?” Trini asks exasperated with an eye roll, tugging at the other girls hand again.
“Not until you tell me how to help.” Kimberly stubbornly says, half-heartedly glaring at the other girl. Trini watches as Kimberly’s face twists with an intrigued look as she scoots herself forward and feels her forehead with the back of her hand.
“Will you please stop?” Trini says frustrated, shoving the other girl’s hand away slightly, but she’s not surprised when Kimberly goes undeterred and lets her hand fall to her neck, switching from side to side to check her temperature. Trini gives up and lets Kimberly finish checking her. Trini swears she worries too much. “Are you done?” Trini asks, annoyed.
“Do you want ice or heating pad?” Kimberly persists, brows furrowed as she stands and moves towards the table in the corner, the desk full with medicine and different size heating pads.
“Ice.” Trini grumbles, eyes rolling when Kimberly gets a satisfied smile playing on her face.
“Here,” Kimberly says after a few second, fishing out an ice gel pack from the mini fridge Trini had in her room. Kimberly goes to put it on her head, but Trini simply snatches it out of her hand with a huff and places it on the back of her head, glaring at her girlfriend. “Will you stop being angry?” Kimberly says with a shake of her head, taking a seat in her previous position.
“Will you stop babying me?” Trini snaps, crossing her arms and letting the ice pack fall at her side. “You can’t just come lay with me like a normal girlfriend?”
Kimberly rolls her eyes as she stands, kicking off her sneakers before pulling back Trini’s sheets, scooting herself next to the other woman, tugging her gently into her side. Trini lets Kim pull her closer, but she doesn’t lean into her as she looks across the room towards the TV.
“I’m just making sure you’re not in pain.” Kimberly says with a sigh, a small chuckle escaping her lips when Trini rolls her eyes. She waits until her girlfriend turns to look at her, an annoyed frown playing on her lips, before Kimberly pouts and bats her eyelashes.
“I hate you.” Trini says simply as Kimberly tugs her again and Trini simply curls herself around the taller girl, tucking her head into Kimberly’s neck, smiling when Kim kisses her forehead gently. Trini loves moments like these when Kimberly just relaxes, small content sighs escaping her lips every now and then as she lets her hand stroke Trini’s back. She doesn’t miss the small moments when Kimberly leans her head on Trini’s forehead to make sure she wasn’t running a fever. Trini’s head does hurt, so much so that she can barely keep her eyes open, but just having Kimberly next to her was enough to quell the pain.
“I love you.”
