newyears.!

Walking in 2017 like…..

Me doing this improvised piece is beyond a big deal for me. It exposes me and shows me at my most vulnerable state. I watched this video like a thousand times cringing and frowning only because I am my worst critic. Dance was once MY LIFE and I literally haven’t performed in 5 years. BUT this is my start. My start in perusing what I love and the things I’m most passionate about. I realize that me walking in the journey of my truth requires me to be vulnerable and to take risk. So even though I kind of don’t like this performance I will share it anyway. I’m extremely rusty and I got some work to do but I’m ready …. *sigh*

Peace and blessings and happy New Year loves!

Happy Martian New Year!

For any planet, a year is the time it takes to make one orbit around the sun. Because Mars is farther away from the sun, it has to travel a greater distance than Earth. It takes Mars about twice as long as it does for Earth to make one circle around the sun…therefore, a year on Mars lasts twice as long.

On May 5, Mars passes solar longitude 0 as the sun crosses the equator on Mars. This is the vernal equinox and was chosen by planetary scientists as the start of a new year.

Mars has four seasons, roughly twice as long as those on Earth, but with more variation given Mars’ eccentric orbit and the fact its orbital speed varies more as a result.

Did you know that there’s a U.S. city named Mars? Mars, PA hosts an annual Mars New Year celebration and we’re participating in this two-day science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) event to inspire young people to pursue innovation and exploration.

get this - a Thai show about gay love refuses to cast gay men in the roles of gay men (I know, unbelievable)

they (the organizer of the show) released a statement saying that they were searching only for straight actors because they felt they would fit the roles (of gay men) better

not only did they basically admit that they’re not creating their series for anyone but straight fangirls by saying something like that (because they can still ship themselves with the straight actors even if they somewhat or completely believe in their OTPs), they’ve also used a really popular, openly gay rising actor, Newyear Kitiwhut (part of an internet-famous Thai gay couple) to draw attention, only to drop him in the final stages of auditions (he brought in a lot of fans and supporters to the show by auditioning)

it also shows that they don’t really care about the content they are creating and the story they are telling, just the popularity of it (even if the organizer of the show is gay himself, he still only wanted straight men to play the roles)

you can read the full translation of the statement here + the opinion of the person who translated

the show is called 2Moons The Series

After years of tutoring and studying many hours every day for over 7 years, I know that studying can be a horrible experience if you don’t like studying out of a book. People spend hours reading and reading, but at the end of the day they ask themselves “what did I just learn.. I forgot it all again”, resulting in bad grades, a low self-esteem, stress, and so on. Education system GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, but until then, here are some tips that I always gave to my students and to myself!

Watch YouTube videos
While you watch YouTube videos, take notes and really LISTEN. Don’t just stare at your screen, maybe even pause it every 30 seconds and think about what the teacher in the video talked about. Do you understand it? If not, scroll back and listen to it again! The goal is to understand it, not to know it.

Make a PowerPoint or other slide show presentation
Pretend like you are the teacher! Try to teach your “class” about the subject. You’ll find out that you understand some parts, but others not so much. Try to figure out what you don’t really understand yet, and watch a YouTube video about it, then try to explain it again. The goal is to be able to teach your “class” about the subject with full confidence! Maybe even ask friends or parents if they can ask questions about it!

Draw!
By visualizing what you’ve just learned, you see it in a whole different way. Instead of linking words together, draw connections and systems of how it works. Of course this depends on the subject, this is easier to do with biology than with mathematics, but when you’re drawing you’re really focusing on the small details. These small details are super important! And a drawing is easier to remember than a text. The goal is to see connections, and spend more time focusing on understanding the smaller parts.

Read the text out loud, and record it
By reading it out loud, you make it real! Often when we read quickly in our heads we skip parts or we just start thinking about something else. By actually reading, you are a lot more focused and understanding what you’re reading is much easier. And record it, then listen back to it when you’re in bed, or whenever you want to listen to it! Talk slowly and emphasize the important words! The goal is to get familiar with the terms, and the more you listen to it, the better you will remember it, obviously :)

Hang in there!! 💕 Let’s make 2017 a fantastic year academically! Good luck with all your tests, I really hope I will help you with these tips!
