“There is no coming to consciousness without pain. People will do anything, no matter how absurd, in order to avoid facing their own Soul. One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.” — Carl Jung

Regret lingered on my tongue for fourteen months straight,
When I had breakfast,
And when I cut my hair,
And when I flew a continent away,
And when I saw you mother and she smiled sweetly at me,
And I thought,
in other life I would’ve married you.
Silly, isn’t it? Silly of me to keep caressing this feeling,
Keep feeding it so much of me-
My thoughts and time and energy,
And pressed petals between journal pages,
And memories designed to deceive-
they turned mean,
they nearly swallowed me.

Seventy-seven times I turned around,
Sneakily glancing back ,
Even when there was nothing left to see.
But that was last month ,
And last month is an eternity

Just like me.
And the thing is, I have let go.

I sat down with my rage,
Confronted her,
Comforted her,
Cause in the end she was the one in tears-
A kid who’d lost her favourite toy;
It was hard to admit I had also been the culprit,
A brat who couldn’t have what she wanted,
Then threw a tantrum in verse,
Tried to turn time in reverse.
But that was last year,
And last year is a universe

Just like me.
And the thing is, I have let go.
