‘Manhattanhenge’ is a phenomenon that happens around summer solstice when the setting sun aligns with the east–west streets of the main street grid of Manhattan, New York City, resulting in a golden glow.
Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson popularised the term, which was named after the similar event at Stonehenge. This year, it’ll occur on both 12 and 13 July at 8:20pm (EST)

Residents of the Library: A Practical Guide for New Librarians
Not to be disturbed unless there is an emergency
Ask politely before attempting to clean, some are exceedingly fond of their dust
The woman in the reference section who is perpetually searching for a certain unknown volume
She will always refuse to tell you which one it is, but it’s good manners to ask her a few times a day anyway
The cat with five eyes
We recognize that this terminology can be confusing, as there are at least a dozen of the cat with five eyes living in the library, but each of them insists on being treated as though they’re the only one. Therefore, each of them is The Cat With Five Eyes
Possibly just The Cat With Five Eyes pulling a prank
The lost child
At this point we must assume, as the child has not aged or been picked up for several years, that it is not so much lost as it is stuck. In the meantime, until its parent returns, it must be placated hourly with new picture books or tantrums will be thrown
The helpful ghost
A benevolent presence that keeps trying to help shelve books and putting them back in the wrong place. Actually exceedingly unhelpful, but the title makes it so happy
The Stacks Goblin
DO NOT offer food!
Shame on you, there’s no food allowed in the library anyway.
Candles are seen as the most powerful object for witches. If one lights a candle while reciting a chant or prayer for enlightenment, empowerment, and good health is one way to use a candle. One can also ward off negative energy and impart positive energy into one’s life using a candle also.
Birthdays were the first ritual with candles used. Many believe the practice of wishing and blowing out the candle brought this wish to the gods who would grant it via the smoke.
Candles represent earth (wax), air (smoke), water (melted wax), and fire (flaming wick).
Always be in the right frame of mind, or the spell will create an opposite effect intended
Allow candle to burn down on its own for most rituals
When the candle has extinguished itself, the spell will be complete
Some rituals and spells may ask for the candle to be extinguished and then re-lit the next day
Never leave a candle unattended
Give decent amounts of time for the candle to burn
Choosing a Candle
Magickally disinfecting your candles before using them is very important, since the energy from those who shipped it may linger on the wax. It is good to make your own candles from scratch for this reason also.
Avoid dipped candles such as white candles dipped into colored wax. Try to find ones solid color throughout
Cleansing Your Candle
Depending upon your preference, you can do a few things to cleanse your candle, such as leaving it outside for a week in the garden to soak up the moon’s rays at night.
For a less time-consuming cleansing, you may anoint your candle, using water and oils prior to the spell or ritual:
Wipe clean with a paper towel, removing all dirt
Prepare a solution of spring water, one teaspoon of sea salt, and warm until the salt dissolves. Allow to cool, and then pour back into the bottle. Keep this in the refrigerator for about a month for use over time.
Intent. Stand in front of your sink, hold the candle in your left hand (nearer to your heart). Be very careful not to wet the wick, and pour a small amount of the sea salt spring water solution over the candle. If using a tea-light candle for quick burn time, remove the candle from its casing before cleansing with the water. Take a fresh paper towel and dry the candle very well and say the following: “This magickal water cleanses thee, with good intent and purity” (Robbins and Bedell, 2017).
Inscribe the candle with a small, sharp knife or thick needle, and scratch your full name and your wish into the wax. It is not important that it be legible, nor the location where inscribed. The words will clout the spell more as the candle burns down.
To anoint your candle, pour some pure vegetable oil into a bowl. This oil is used for most anointing, but if using a spell for health and well-being, you may mix in a few drops of other oils if you wish. Lavender is common for health and well-being spells and will make the magick more intense. Hold the candle in your left hand again and dip the first finger of your right hand into the oil and run it down the candle from top to bottom in a line. If anointing a tea-light, place it back in its casing, dip your finger into the oil, and smear it in a clockwork motion around the top of the candle wax. Say this invocation: “This magickal oil anoints thee, with all things good, magickally” (Robbins and Bedell, 2017). The candle is now cleansed, charged, and ready to be placed in a suitable holder in preparation for the spell you choose.
Rhyming and repetition can help add punch to a spell. A lot of ancient and prewritten spells will rhyme with a poetic fluidity. Repeating the spell will give power to the message each time. The most magickal numbers that represent completion are 7, 9, and 12.
To end the spell, you will need to close the ritual. Choose one of the phrases such as “and so it is” or “the spell is cast” or “so mote it be” before looking upward and saying “thank you.”

The best way to work with crystals magickally, is to simply carry them in your pocket or touch them. You can also wear them as jewelry as a single crystal or combined with other complimentary crystals on places such as: over your heart or at your wrists, etc, to disburse the energies throughout the body.
Many people often handle the crystals before they are bought by you, so aligning and cleansing them is recommended for purest energy.
Crystal Alignment Meditation
Stand before your crystals and close your eyes and focus on the moment
Take three slow breaths: inhale to the count of four, hold for count of four, and exhale for count of four, and then hold for another four counts
State firmly in your mind “My spirit vibrates in harmony with (insert crystal type here)” (Robbins & Bedell, 2017).
Continue to mentally recite the chant until you feel an energetic shift in yourself
Open your eyes and start to feel the crystals before you
Hold them, touch them
The crystal that is right for you will feel like its humming in your hand–the sensation of your energy and the crystal energy aligning
Boosting Crystal Power with a Simple Cleansing Ritual
Bowl of soapy water
Sea salt (in small bowl)
Bowl of cold water
Take all the crystals and put them in the bowl of soapy water. Use your hands to rub them clean
Chant as you wash clean: “Water, cleanse and clean. Remove the negative unseen” (Robbins & Bedell, 2017).
When the crystals feel lighter, individually place them in the bowl of salt. The salt will ground them in your energy and their energy, and remove any remaining energy
Next, dip them in the bowl of cold water to rinse off the salt, but keep the energetic process. As you remove them from the cold water, say “By the water, no more negativity. By the water, blessed be” (Robbins & Bedell, 2017)
Your crystals are now blessed and cleansed and ready for use

This is an energetic healing-water prepared in a glass or jar, with the correct combination of crystals. To make your water:
Place the crystals in the bottom of the glass or jar
Set outside in the sun, or by a sunny window
Let sit for 2-8 hours
Once done, strain the water into a clean glass and store
Dosage is 2-3 drops in a glass of water or juice 3-4 times daily
Note: Some crystals have metallic components and may contain iron or other substances that you should not drink or touch. These minerals include malachite, azurite, fluorite, jet, sulfur, serpentine, tigereye, tiger iron, and turquoise. To still obtain the crystal water energies from these crystals, you should use the No-Touch Method.
What you will need
Bottle or jar
Place the crystals in the small bowl
Place the smaller bowl within the larger bowl
Fill the larger bowl with enough water that the water level is above the height of the crystal(s) in the smaller bowl (BUT DOES NOT OVERFLOW INTO THE SMALL BOWL)
Place the bowls outside in the sun or on a sunny window for 2-8 hours
Ta-daaaa! This post has been stocked in my scraps for like… a decade! I’ve been changing things, names, dates so many times that I have issues myself to remember who and when. But we are finally here!
Some general, basic informations about my Overwatch Child, Margherita. It’s the first time ever I go this deep with an Original Character, so I really hope you like her! More infos, skins and backstory will come soon.
Fancy to tell me if you’d like to play as her? Ahah! I totally would!
I wrote more detailed explanations about her abilities, but I’m gonna hide the rest of the post since I talked too much. LOL
since I’ve seen concern over the subject of renewed fantroll discourse in the likely event of a homestuck resurgence once hiveswap is out, here’s a quick fantroll guide for new fans:
people can do literally whatever they want with their fantroll/trollsona. these are primarily for fun (especially for the younger fans!) and do not need to be graded for accuracy
if someone didn’t ask for criticisms of their fantroll/trollsona, and you give it to them anyway in hopes they’ll change their character to fit your standards (even if you say “but this is what’s canon!”), you’re kind of being a jerk. if they tell you to stop and you keep harping on it anyway, you’re definitely being a jerk! no one is under any obligation to be accurate to canon
if someone asks for advice on how to make their character fit canon better, go for it! but they don’t have to take it, and keep in mind that there’s a lot of canon up for debate (ex. things like god tier classes can have many interpretations!)
if you want to make a character with candy red or lime blood go for it. if you want to make a character with rainbow or sparkly pink blood go for it. if you want to make “rare” things like mutants, fuchsia bloods/royalty, or lords/muses, go for it. if you want to adopt popular fanon like grub scars go for it. if you have more obscure/original ideas, that’s cool too. go ahead and make furry trolls with tails and paw pads if that appeals to you, literally nothing should stop you!
take a look at what other fans are doing, and keep an open mind. you can always find something to inspire you, and maybe make friends too
most importantly, have fun and let others have fun!
