  • What she means: Can you hear my heartbeat? Tired of feeling never enough I close my eyes and tell myself that my dreams will come true There'll be no more darkness when you believe in yourself you are unstoppable Where your destiny lies, dancing on the blades You set my heart on fire Don't stop us now, the moment of truth We were born to make history We'll make it happen, we'll turn it around Yes, we were born to make history Born to make history Bo-bo-born to make history Don't stop us now, the moment of truth We were born to make history We'll make it happen, we'll turn it around Yes, we were born to make history Can you hear my heartbeat? I've got a feeling it's never too late I close my eyes and see myself how my dreams will come true There'll be no more darkness when you believe in yourself you are unstoppable Where your destiny lies, dancing on the blades You set my heart on fire Don't stop us now, the moment of truth We were born to make history We'll make it happen, we'll turn it around Yes, we were born to make history Born to make history Bo-bo-born to make history Don't stop us now, the moment of truth We were born to make history We'll make it happen, we'll turn it around Yes, we were born to make history Don't stop us now, the moment of truth We were born to make history We'll make it happen, we'll turn it around Yes, we were born to make history We were born to make history We were born to make history Yes, we were born to make history
Find balance in your life. Work hard but don’t let work take over your life, you will lose yourself. Love, but love for the right reasons. Life is too short for anything mediocre. Know who you are and know that you are worthy of reaching your dreams and that it is never too late to start creating that life you have always dreamed of. Do not compare yourself to others, that’s just deadly. No two souls are the same. You are your own person, you are beautiful and you are unique. Put your trust in the universe. Some things are just meant to happen, and some are not. Let go of whatever is stealing your happiness, it’s hard but it is worth it. Embrace change. Embrace life. Everything happens for a reason, sometimes you just need to breathe, trust and let go.

Hi! I really love your blog. I wanted to ask for your advice. I started learning Japanese by myself at age 19. I'm 20 now. & I've been feeling very discouraged to keep learning. Do you think it's too late for me to ever learn Japanese completely? Will I ever be fluent enough to where I'm comfortable or should I just give up this dream? Thanks.

Hello! Thank you! (^-^) I’m going to answer as teacher, not as blogger or Japan resident.

The trite answer is that it’s never too late to learn, and that you should never give up on a dream, but that doesn’t help much, does it? So let’s get a bit more real.

1) It’s definitely not too late to start learning – and eventually master – a new language at the age of 19. As a matter of fact, that’s when many people start: when they go to university or study abroad. I teach middle-aged Japanese businessmen who start in their 40s or even 50s and eventually learn to speak English. I do this every day. It is possible. (I also teach retired people in their 60s. Bit more tricky, because short-term memory becomes a real problem. So don’t wait too long. Grin.)

2) Fluency? Ah, that elusive Holy Grail. You might never be as fluent in a second language as you are in your first – or you might – but what exactly is fluent? I know plenty of fluent-in-everyday-situations Japanese L2 speakers who start stuttering in very technical or very bureaucratic or very formal situations. Heck, I know plenty of Japanese native speakers who do that!

3) Learning a new language is hard. I know I’m supposed to encourage you, and I’m aware of, and don’t dispute, claims that you can become fluent in 18 months, but learning a new language requires effort. According to the Foreign Service Institute of the US Department of State, it takes 88 weeks or 2200 class hours for an English speaker to become relatively fluent in Japanese.

TL;DR No, it’s not too late. Yes, you can become a fluent speaker. No, don’t give up. Hang in there!

Imagine that Person A has had a secret crush on Person B for a long time.

Imagine that one day Person A has a dream. In the dream, Person C confronts them and tells them that they need to tell Person B how they feel. Person A says that that’s probably a bad idea and that nothing good can come from it. Person A says that they think they’ll get over their feelings for Person B. Person C shakes their head. Person C says that Person B’s life may depend on whether or not Person A confesses. Person A asks how, but they wake up before Person C can answer.

That morning Person A sees Person B. They nervously approach Person B and Person B asks what’s wrong. Person A pauses, hesitates, but finally tells Person B how they feel. Person B starts laughing, and Person A feels humiliated, but then Person B explains that they feel the same way about Person A and were never going to say anything. The pair decides to hang out at Person A’s house, on the other side of town from Person B’s house, that night.

That night, Person B’s home was burned down by an arsonist. Person A sees this on the news and immediately thinks of their dream. Person B notices that Person A acted a little strangely when they heard that the house burned down, but they never ask about it.

The Difference

Note to self
Don’t lose the color in your veins
Beauty doesn’t equal pain
Take your life back today
Live for all the right reasons

Note to self
Don’t lose the sparkle in your eyes
There’s a rainbow after the tears you cry
I wish that you would realize
You’re anything but ordinary

Nothing is more self-destructive
Than pretending to be happy
When everything inside you is
Screaming that you’re not
Each and every moment in time
Can be the heartbeat of a bucket list
Love yourself and never give in
Neither will be easy
But soon, you won’t be able to tell the difference

Note to self
Don’t lose the truth in your smile
Letting a demon steal it would be vile
Take your pride back today
You don’t owe anyone an explanation

Note to self
Don’t lose the universe in your heart
It’s better to grow with broken parts
I hope you’ll be reminded
That true love is never one-sided

I know you have dreams
It’s never too late
To bring them to life
You want to be seen
To find your place in the world
To find a home
These dreams didn’t die
They’ve lived inside you all along
Time and trying are the same

So my Dad’s in his 60’s n has been taking acting classes recently. He said his true calling he thinks is to be in movies n act. I think that’s inspiring, never too late for your dreams. He said I inspired him to not let life pass him by, ain’t that some shit?! Respect Dad. My Daddy a G it’s genetics!!!

13th February 2017.

Messy Desk but revision is going well.

I would also like to share that I have finally been accepted to do my LLM (Masters) in the next academic year. Yay 😊 🎉. I had been waiting to hear from the University of Cambridge for months but I finally got the news today and I am over the moon😊 It has not been easy but it is all worth it. If you are out there and you find yourself struggling with your studies; don’t feel discouraged or disappointed. It is never too late to attain your goals/ dreams.

to anon who thinks it's too late to do art: i studied art in college, went to grad school for it, and didn't do art as my profession. as much as i enjoyed learning about it, i've found that my actual passion lies in writing. I'm now trying to make time to take classes for children's book illustration in an attempt to mix what i've learned and what i want to do. i'm 30. neil gaiman didn't write his first story until 28. i don't think it's EVER too late to find what you finally want to do in life.

So

as I was looking through one of my favorite artists’ tweets, that one particularly caught my attention. It’s basically a sreenshot of retweet of one of Jin’s (old) tweets and while I can’t really understand what that person is saying, what is really important is what Jin’s tweet is saying:

“I also want to write KanoKido novel.”

????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First thing first, why I’ve never seen anyone talking about it? Jin’s tweets about kanokido isn’t something new, but that’s like the whole new level.

A little sidenote: I said it’s old and yeah… it pretty is. I wasn’t able to find the original tweet, but thanks to my shitty research I know that it must be at most from 2013
