Needles & Threads

I see you pull out a needle

And attach a thread

Whenever you would start to control me

I always wished I was dead.

To explain to you that I wasn’t yours

Filled me with dread and sorrow

So to continue pushing off the puppetry

I would tell you to control me tomorrow.

You’d sew the strings through anyways

And tore my skin to shreds

The needles that poked at my skin for days

That’s when I wished myself dead.

I remember a day specifically that

You tried to sew my heart

I said no, but you wouldn’t let go

So we’d never be apart.

Then looking in the mirror one day

I saw such a mess

Those strings that you sewed to me

Were protruding out my chest.

You wouldn’t believe how many

You would have been in awe

I tried to cut them with my scissors

But I had to get a saw.

“Vincent” Day 5 and “Iris” Day 17.

The last time I spent a few straight hours quilting, I pulled a muscle in my neck, so today I worked on both quilts, one “Mythbusters” episode at a time (about 45 minutes, DVD time). It definitely helped alternating sitting at the Juki and standing at the design wall.

I filled in more of Vincent’s cheek and nose as well as most of the chin. As for Iris, I finished all the cat fur and I only have the background to finish.

I also got my order from Superior Threads, so I have my needles and the thread to quilt my painted hibiscus.

The secret is to never lose sight of the simple, everyday miracles in life. Good food, literature, laughter, music, compelling conversation, nature, and art. Look for them in every day, and even when it feels like your whole world is unravelling, you will never be too far from a needle and thread.
