I’ve been having this blog for 4 years, but I’ve never had the chance to show some love to my favourite blogs until this day!

So, in no particular order, here are some of the blogs I always visit after a bad day, since I am sure that the content i’ll find there will be pleasing enough to make my day :)

The Eastern Veil Nebula
The Eastern Veil nebula is a portion of the supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus about 1500 ly away. This composite shows the Hydrogen alpha (Ha) and doubly ionized oxygen (OIII) emission and contains NGC6992 and NGC6995 collectively known as the Network nebula. However, to me, it takes a more haunting appearance as this side of the Veil supernova remnant resembles a face in profile with the mouth area prominent in the lower portion. The progenitor supernova exploded an estimated 5000-8000 years ago and the full diameter is 3 degrees, giving a size of around 50 ly. The remnant emits radio, infrared, visible light and is also a very bright source of X-rays. As with the Western Veil nebula, the emission filaments are thought to be the edge-on view of the thin shell of expanding gas. The entire 3 degree field contains this gas, but it's only in this edge-on view that the shell is visible. The supernova must've been quite a site to our ancestors. For reference, it's about 4.3x closer than the supernova that left the Crab nebula remnant, M1, in 1054 AD, which had an apparent magnitude of -6.5 at it's peak. For supernovae with the same intrinsic brightness, this would give a 18x increase in brightness, or around 3.2 magnitudes. The Bubble Nebula by DJMcCrady The Bubble Nebula really is a bubble within an expanding molecular cloud, carved out by the stellar wind of an extremely hot and energetic star. It lies about 11000 light years distant in the constellation of Cassiopeia, and is nearby the beautiful open cluster M52.

This image was taken with a Stellarvue SVS130 telescope and an SBIG STL-4020M CCD camera. Hydrogen-alpha was used as the red channel, while the blue and green channels are Oxygen-III. The image was processed in MaximDL and Photoshop, and was upsampled 2x. http://flic.kr/p/JCGVfZ

This is a cropped and processed section of a wider area view of the Eagle Nebula (Messier 16) that is referred to as the “Pillars of Creation”. It is another “star factory” that is busy making new stars and it forms one of the most iconic Hubble Space Telescope photographs, which you can view HERE. Some have postulated that this feature has already been destroyed by a shock wave from a supernova,…

Эмиссионная туманность и отражательная туманность NGC 1999 находится на расстоянии полутора тысяч световых лет от Земли в созвездияи Ориона, немного южнее самой известной эмиссионной туманности Ориона M42.

God’s Favorite

The once quiet campground had broken into chaos.
The dark Pine trees glowed with the fires that had started around the area, and screams echoed into the darkness of the wilderness around the still campers and tents dotted about the area.
A group of demons had taken over, slaughtering every camper they could get their hands on to entertain their father,Lucifer who sat on a high limb of one of the many Pine trees overlooking the area, a smug smirk on his lips.

“For once I don’t need to get my hands dirty,it’s about time they learned their place with me,instead of with that mutt Crowley.”

Lucifer muttered, chuckling a bit as he shifted his six Nebula colored wings that sat on his back, they completely blotting out the Moon when at the right angle.
He seemed rather amused by the whole event, able to watch his playthings run about,he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t even mildly impressed.
Mutilated bodies lay strewn about the area, and some even hanging in the trees, their clothing fluttering each time the wind blew.
The night would go on until all of the humans laid still on the Earth, their lives ended much later then Lucifer would have wanted.
Things would take time, but eventually this world would be purged by his hands alone.

NGC 3132: туманность восьми вспышек
http://astro-analytics.net
