The Reward of a Rainy Day by Vaidas M

Beautiful evening light falling on the cliffs near Cap de Formentor in Northern Mallorca.

Our second day in Mallorca was initially not looking that great - as we arrived at the northern town of Port de Pollença, the sky was covered in grey cloud and it kept raining almost constantly. After a few hours in town we were considering just heading back to the hotel in Palma, but we decided to visit the Northern peninsula of Cap de Formentor before heading South. The sky started clearing up and it suddenly became obvious that there was good potential for a beautiful sunset, and the sky certainly didn’t disappoint eventually!

This is a long exposure taken using the B+W 3.0 10 stop ND filter, Lee ND grad was used to balance the exposure between the cliffs and the sky. Nikon D90 + Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 B+W 3.0 + Lee 0.9 ND HG 18 mm | f/5.3 | ISO 200 | 186 sec Explored | August 8th, 2011: #304.

Returning to Yourself

There’s nothing like coming back to nature in order to “reset” yourself (isn’t it interesting that I said “coming back” to nature? Like it’s the default.) I love just drinking in the atmosphere: listening to the lapping of the water against the shore, the roaring wind rushing past my ears, the hushing of tree branches swaying… it’s wonderful.

Buttermere, Lake District, Cumbria, England.

ISO100, ƒ/22.0, 1sec at 14mm (21mm full-frame equiv.) using a slim circular polariser and a hard 2-stop ND grad stacked on my Sigma dp0 Quattro. A single 1-second exposure shot 14 times for image averaging, resulting in an equivalent 14-second exposure. Processed in Sigma’s Photo Pro with the Vivid colour mode, edited in Photoshop.

Cape Canaveral National Seashore

It felt like I was having beach withdrawals and so I drove to Cape Canaveral today. It was really cloudy and drizzly and there was light fog on the shore when I got there which was perfect for me and then it cleared up eventually. I had the shore all to myself again. A tiny break from my Smoky Mountain photos! Oh and I got to test out my new 4 stop hard ND Grad filter on these shots.
