I don’t know when we will see each other again or what the world will be like when we do.  We may both have seen many horrible things.  But I will think of you every time I need to be reminded that there is beauty and goodness in the world.

- Arthur Golden, Memoirs of a Geisha

Of all the ideas that became the United States, there’s a line here that’s at the heart of all the others: “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and provide new Guards for their future security.” People don’t talk that way anymore. It means, if there’s something wrong, those who have the ability to take action have the responsibility to take action.
