I’m sure most of you know this, but there’s a streaming service called SeeSo that’s only like $4 a month. It has all of The Mighty Boosh, Luxury Comedy, and loads of other British gems (including other shows Noel has appeared in). Plus the ENTIRE Monty Python catalogue. Anyways, they have license for Flowers and they’re premiering it the first week of May. So this could be a convenient option for some of you! I know it is for me :)
A lot of fans were upset and confused by the last episode, when Dan attempts suicide. Every major figure in Dan’s life visits Dan in the hospital, except for his best friend who is totally in love with him, Jones. People seem to think that meant the show was implying Jones didn’t care enough to visit, but I think it’s the opposite.
Essentially, the show was about making Dan miserable. All the people in the hospital, they were either idiots that Dan hated, such as Nathan and his workmates, or people who made him miserable, such as Claire, or Pingu, who was a nice guy, but by jumping out the window in the first place he inadvertently lead to Dan’s life being ruined. Basically, none of these people were people that Dan wanted to visit him, and the show, being based on comedic sociopathy, wanted to cash in on that.
If Jones had visited, it wouldn’t have had the same effect. In all of Jones appearances, he tried to make Dan happy. He offered to help out when Dan was upset, he sung him lullabies when he couldn’t sleep, he insulted Nathan and refused to be taken in by his idiocy, and overall stayed loyal to Dan. Jones was the only person who made Dan happy, and he would have been pleased to see Jones visit him. Including him in the crowd of people that Dan loathed would have made no sense.
Also, Jones hates Nathan and the other idiots just as much Dan, why would he have visited with them? He obviously visited Dan at another time, but we weren’t shown it because the show runs on comedic sociopathy and having a heartwarming scene of Jones visiting his friend would have lessened the impact.
Jones wasn’t included, simply because he and Dan care about eachother too much.
Sometimes I feel a bit sorry for Noel because his face is so attractive that even when he tries to give someone a murderous death glare it looks like he’s being photographed for a sexy model shoot.
This in no way should be taken as a shot against his acting skills, he is a brilliant actor. It’s just that his face doesn’t seem to have an unflattering expression available, the crazy inventor who built him forgot to program that setting in.
