“Alice leaves her home in America because of relationship problems and finds herself becoming lovers with Dan in London. He plays the father and dotes on her like the princess she plays. She is very demure, even in her hostility. Once Alice’s role is introduced the problems begin. She plays the hero because while alice is the cause of much confusion and heartache in the film, she is the only one who remains immersed in truth, in the most obscure way. “Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off…” is Alice’s key phrase towards the end of the movie, leading us to believe that she is just as filthy and disappointing as the rest of the characters. But in actuality, Alice only ever lied about her name. “
