A photoshoot for my styling class, inspired by grunge fashion. This was the first time I got the be a part of a photoshoot with professional models, hair stylists, makeup artits and photographers! It was a lot of fun, even thought the styling theme isnt my personel direction of style it was fun doing something different. The lighting and the mood is very much in line with underground fashion. The Blue corset worn in the 2nd and 3rd photo is constructed by me in my corset class I took last semester, it was exciting I got to use something i made on my own for this shoot.

My classmates Pierre Parent and Jenny Wang were my group mates for this asignment.. It was good fun working with them. We had to be quick and work with so much co-ordination cause we had a time constriant! but it worked out the way we wanted!

I think im starting to like over sized sweaters now, after this shoot, I bought myself a size ‘L’ Sweater from Weatseal! It has rhinestones on it!!!!!

The shoes are made on three constructions, kitten heels, pencil heels and platform heels. All shoes are fabric shoes. The art work and prints are designed by me aswell. When I began to think about this theme I had a very white wedding inspired look in my head..This is a complete occasion wear range for spring summer.

The trend is very much my personel style and perfect for a lady who loves the fragile and soft look.

There are individual names for each shoe, it was a lot of fun while i was thinking of these names,

This is just so Girly!

I had posted the trend board for this collection last month, I mentioned in that post how excited I was to finally see how the collection turns out to be, and I am very much happy with it!

I LOVE IT!

And that little love note is the cutest thing ever.

In Interview with NIJHUM PATRA.

Nijhum, A beautiful model and fashion designing student from India, speaks about her experience with the Industry, the City of Mumbai and the ‘Lakme India Fashion Week’

(Garment by Anita Dongre for LFW A/W Festive 2011)

  • What inspired you to be a part of the Fashion industry?
Fashion has been a part of every girl while growing up.. ever since Mom handed me my 1st barbie doll, I guess I just got hooked.. wearin Mom’s high heels, smearing lipstick on my face, tryin to apply makeup on my sister (I was bit of a torture for her i am sure, but always got away with me sayin you 'look absolutely gorgeous’). While growing up the want to create somethin always stayed.. something that is different and that I could wear.. my Mom used to do that all the time and I guess my Dad’s creativity and my Mom’s skill inspired me to get into fashion.. I was very close to makin wrong desicion of taking up engineering but Papa told me that I could also try to live the dream I had as a little girl.
  •  Assam to Banglore to Mumbai, when did modelling cross ways for the first time?
I was one of the tallest in class, lanky, awkward, long hair.. when i went to banglore I opened up.. mixed n changed to adapt. This is when one of my faculty members in the 11th standard said why dont u try out for the auditions that we are having in college.. I was shy but my friends then pushed me to go for it.. I enjoyed the spotlight and all the cheers and hooting my classmates did.. I thus got noticed.. then I made friends from all walks of life in banglore and they helped me out any chance they got doing various projects.. I also shot for the catalogue for levi’s and now when i look back at those pics i just smile..
  • How is it living in the glamour capital of the Country?

Mumbai.. after living here alone I have seen a side of Mumbai that i never did.. the food .. the people.. the sea.. the shopping.. the fashion.. everything.. by far one of the safest cities I have lived in.. yes I push my luck too far sometimes but the glamour capital of the country has taught me all.. staying and traveling alone is very different and eye opening.. friends are family here.. they keep me sane.. I love riding my cycle around this place.. yes of course, Navi Mumbai is nothing like the city at all.. but it definitely has its own charm.. its green, clean and serene .. I have met soo many people and got to learn about so many things.. glamour is just a part of this big beautiful bountiful city.. there is much much more to it than glamour and i get to discover something new everyday..

  • How has it been balancing college with modelling?
Modelling always made me happy.. and I love college.. I cannot give up either if u ask me.. I am very sincere (i think) when it comes to work in college.. I like doing something different and challenge myself rather than challenging anyone else.. if I can see myself grow I am the happiest.. but I think all of us push ourselves and I do too..  balancing both is difficult but I try to manage.. I have friends who are ever ready to help and more than anyone else very understanding parents who are proud of me and whatever I do.. onece I know that my parents are there and support me in something that I am doing, I have nothing to fear.
  • How was the experience with Lakme?
Eye opening.. all the glamour you see in front of the stage takes a lot of hard work, sleepless nights, perfection and a lot of helping hands.. for those 5 days we had to be ever ready and preparing for 10days from 12 to 13 hours.. choreography to remember, make sure not to fall in ur sky high heels, carry off the clothes like you own them, not let anythin play peek a boo, hold ur head high, stay fierce, stay humble.. biggest highlight of lakme, 1st show that i walked for and my dad and sister came to watch it.. :) still remember his beaming face.. I made friends and tried to be comfortable and easy to work with.. that is very important.. coz I am still very new and I have to work hard to be where I imagine myself to be in a couple of years..
  • Do you enjoy run way modelling or photoshoots more?
Runway!! I love the spotlight.. it is defintly more risky than photoshoots but if I really had to make a choice between the two I would rank runway 0.05 more than photoshoots.. photoshoots are longer and gets very tiring but runway I just feel the energy and the vibe from everyone who is looking at me when I am walking.

  • After graduating, do you plan to study Fashion Designing further?
Of course.. now that I am in it.. I want to know everything about it.. I want to take a break for a year or so and then resume my studies.. I want to travel and soak up everythin I can.. I love to see new places.. so i will definitely apply somewhere outside the country.
  • On a professional level how do you find the industry?
There are many designers, stylists, choreographers, co ordinaters, etc etc already.. it is tough competition.. u have to be true to what you are doing and what you believe.. being and trying to be like someone else will get you nowhere.. it is a challenge to be heard and noticed but I guess I will get there eventually.. I actually shouldn’t be giving advice but tryin to take some.
  • fashion design or modelling, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
A unique face that everyone remembers.. 5 years from now I want to be known as a succesfull model who has travelled all over the world n graced on covers and is now slowly and gracefully making a mark as a Designer in an Atelier ^_^ we all have dreams.. and they do come true.

MY FASHION FAIRYTALE : I WANT A PUMPKIN CHARIOT!

This dreamy mood has always been an inspiration for my personal style. It brings out the innocence of a young girl and creates a very positive aura. I always get excited when I come across fashion editorials featuring this style. Most of my sets on polyvore also depict this side of me. That Vera Wang perfume is one of the things on my ‘to buy list’, for a long time now, but i recently bought the 'Wonderstruck, by Taylor Swift’ fragrance which again is so enchanting.

The tulle, the glitter, the pastel, the PINK, the ribbons, the bows, the pearls and the..

HAPPILY EVER AFTER!
