Subaru WRX STI Type RA NBR Special, 2017. The WRX has set a new lap record for a four-door saloon at the 12.8-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife race track, achieving a time of 6:57.5. The time was achieved using the Nürburgring timing equipment and was officially verified by track officials. The Prodrive-built time attack car is equipped with a rally spec 600hp 2.0-litre Boxer engine and Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive.

A 2017 Honda Civic Type R has set a new front-wheel drive lap record of 7min 43.8sec at Nürburgring. The lap time was achieved in development car with technical specifications representative of the final production car. Production of the new Civic Type R will begin in summer 2017 at Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM) in Swindon. Ryuichi Kijima, lead chassis engineer for the Honda Civic Type R, explains “The cornering speed achieved in the new Type R is higher because the car features a wider track and tyres, a longer wheelbase, new multi-link suspension in the rear and optimised aerodynamics that improves stability”
