Thanks to gas-masks-official, I feel slightly more confident posting about this interesting piece.

This is an odd dust mask/goggle combo that I bought a year ago off eBay. There was little to no interest for this one but it caught my curiosity. And I hoped by obtaining this mask I would figure out where this piece came from…

And I was wrong.

There are absolutely no markings what so ever on this piece. Not on the goggles, not on the mask, nothing. So I started to dig around to find out some answers… I came out pretty empty handed, I have nothing but assumptions and educated guesses… so here we go.

I believe that this mask made in the early 30′s by industrial workers that dealt with very light dust fumes. Seeing how none of the parts seem physically possible to swap out or change without destroying the mask, it is my reason to believe these were made under mass numbers and were disposable. However, I have only seen two other examples like this since I obtained mine, so maybe they were mass produced, and were tossed often… or they actually weren’t mass produced, and only a very limited number of these pieces were made.

I asked many experts of general militaria and even goggle experts where this piece may have come from… only one intersting theory has emerged. One person mentioned that the goggles looked like Japanese aviator/motorcycle goggles. So far… I have found nothing that looks anywhere near close to them.

So, until further notice… this is known in my collection as the Unknown Dust Mask. Unless someone on here has some answers. :)

Check out the newest trailer for Mr. Holmes, starring Ian McKellen! Here’s the synopsis:

“Mr. Holmes is a new twist on the world’s most famous detective. 1947, an aging Sherlock Holmes returns from a journey to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger. Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love – before it’s too late.”

Hey, so I never got to go to the art contest I made this for, bc i was in the hospital, so I figured I’d post it here.

I call it “Craig” and it represents me, my paranoia, and how much of a mess I feel, all being released.

(Please reblog?I worked really  hard and I just don’t want this to be ignored….)

Antwerp Diamond Heist of 2003

Dubbed “the heist of the century,” the Antwerp Diamon Heist remains unsolved to this day. The heist involved the taking of loose diamonds, gold, and other jewelry valued at more than $100 million. It is considered the largest diamond heist in history.

It was housed in a vault considered to be one of the safest vaults in the world which had numerous secturity mechanisms.

  • Lock with over 100 million combinations
  • Infared heat detectors
  • A seismic sensor
  • Doppler radar
  • The diamond center itself had a security force

A man named Leonardo Notarbartolo (man suspected of doing this) had rented a sparsely furnished office for approximately $700 per month in the diamond centre three years prior to the robbery which gave him 24hr access to the vault. He posed as an Italian diamond merchant in order to gain creditbility.

After the robbery Leonardo and his crew stole the security footage so no one really knows how they pulled this off or who the rest of Leonardo’s team was. 123/160 safety deposit boxes (which were made of steel and copper and had both a key and combination lock) were forced open. This is what the diamon center’s vault looked like after the robbery.
