To prevent depression from the french election first round results, I am binge watching the new season of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Nothing better than silly movies riffed by a dude and two robots to forget our inane world for a while.
“Then repeat to yourself, ‘It’s just a show I should really just relax’”
I. LOVE. Mystery Science Theater 3000. I watched it on Comedy Central and SciFi years ago and catch videos on Youtube pretty regularly. It’s fun to watch while I illustrate, granted I’m not doing any fine detail work because I start to laugh and my lines look like I’m drunk. I can quote many of what I find to be the funniest riffs from the show and names like Torgo, Mitchell! (yes, the exclamation point is intentional), and Rowsdower will make me giggle every time. I once laughed at a riff for nearly five minutes. The pain in my ribs was considerable.
This piece is a love letter and a thank you to the show that brought me so much joy and continues to make me laugh. Thank you Joel Hodgson for your creation and thanks to (Joel), Mike, Crow T. Robot, and Tom Servo for making horrible movies so much better!
So I met Virginia Corbett, wife of Bill Corbett of the MST3k crew, while working on the 31st at my temp job at a Halloween store. I’ve been meaning to do this awhile back, but now that I had incentive I decided to get working on it a whole 10 days after it occurred. She was lovely.
