myfitspo

thatbonegirl and I just had an unexpected, private VIP session with our cardio kickboxing trainer.  (AKA, no one else showed up for class.)  For a local rec center, she’s pretty legit.  Hell, for ANYWHERE she’s pretty legit.

This is her:

So since it was just the three of us, she kicked it into high gear and did stuff with us that we’ve never done in any of the classes.  Like tricep dips off the bleachers in the gym and crazy plank adaptions and shiz.  And everything else we did was completely intense.  At one point I literally told her I hated her and she just laughed.  At the end I asked if she was trying to kill us.  But guess what?  We did it.  Never in my life did I think I would do a class with that much interest or ability nor that I would think that feeling like I was going to die was going to be so much fun.  She not only high fived us, told us we rocked, THANKED US, but she also said we could come to her class tomorrow night (for freezie!) if we wanted to squeeze in another class before she goes on vaca, and she hugged us twice.  AND she invited us to a LATIN FANTASY CAMP as if we would have the skills to pull that off.

Between/after classes, (cuz we do ABSOGLUTELY before cardio kickboxing) we also had a really great talk with her about facing fears, her decision to become a dancer at the age of 40, her nerves surrounding her first years as a trainer, and nutrition.  All in all a really interesting session when I think about the fact that each class breaks down to about $3 a pop.  I spend more on that buying a coffee drink at Starbucks.  This class was literally the best $3 I ever spent.  Something to remember the next time I think there’s something I’d rather be doing than going to a class.

I have bruises all over my body

BUT IT WAS SO WORTH IT!  Finished the warrior dash and couldn’t be prouder of myself and my friends.  The four months of training was totally worth it to be able to do the race to completion.  No skipping obstacles, no wimping out, no taking the easy way, and no cheats whatsoever.  I even bit it on one of the obstacles but finished it anyway and lived to tell the tale.  AND have a bruise from knee to my hip that helps to tell the story.  I had more fun than I could’ve ever imagined and as soon as we were done we were already saying “Next year…”

Pics on the way!

Exercise Update

I just got back from my first Aqua Boot Camp class - it kicked my ass but it was SO GOOD

I really like that I don’t have that sweaty hot gross post-exercise feeling I get after my other workouts. I got out of the water and went straight to the warm fuzzy exhausted-success feeling. It seems to have been good for my bum knee too - running and my other aerobics class have been hard on it and it’s sore now but I think the water resistance was good for it. Also I weighed in afterwards for curiosity’s sake and I’m down two pounds from yesterday, which is insane.

I also love that the instructor is the director of all the county pools so she’s super confidant and knowledgable and she’s a big girl who was kicking all our asses at the moves. Also the lifeguard was a Hottie McHotterson

Couch to 5K Check In

This week marks a jump in our training.  Our Couch to 5K training now looks like this:

  • 5 min warm up walk
  • 3 min run
  • 1.5 min walk
  • 5 min run
  • 2.5 min walk
  • 3 min run
  • 1.5 min walk
  • 5 min run
  • short cool down walk followed by strength training (squats, side to side back lunges, knee ups, burpees, side & middle sit ups, bridge dips, push ups, and planks -ALL OF THAT DONE THREE TIMES)

Today was high 70’s/low 80’s and humid as all get out and was about to thunderstorm and only two of us could make it, but we didn’t let any of that deter us.  It worked out pretty well considering Melissa is a faster runner by nature normally but I think we both kept each other in check pretty well.  The second 5 minute stretch felt like I was going to die.  It was not pretty or fast by any means, but by God we did it.  I never thought I’d get to a place where I’d be able to run for five minutes straight but here I am.  I hate every second of it while it’s happening, but afterward I feel so good and so proud of myself that I can barely contain it.  Which, I suppose, is why I’m sharing it with y'all.

9 more weeks until the Warrior Dash!

I had Absoglutely and Cardio kickboxing today, and I walked about 1.5 miles each way to get to class.  So that means that I burned about 1500 calories, give or take.  And I’m pretty sure I unintentionally only put in about 1400 today.  Didn’t even think about it, just ate my normal stuff.

I

AM

FRIGGIN HUNGRY.

And of course it’s 12:40am.  You know, when normal people eat.

Le sigh - falling asleep is going to be FUNZIES.

EATING ONLY 500 CALORIES A DAY FOR THREE WEEKS AND TAKING HORMONE SUPPLEMENTS SO YOUR BODY DOESN’T GO INTO STARVATION MODE IS NOT A HEALTHY WAY TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR BODY.  AND WHEN IT’S PART OF A PYRAMID SCHEME DESIGNED TO SUCKER OTHERS INTO PURSUING A QUICK FIX YOU’RE NOT JUST HURTING YOUR BODY, YOU’RE WASTING YOUR MONEY AND SETTING YOU AND THE PEOPLE YOU SUCKERED INTO DOING IT WITH YOU UP FOR FAILURE.  ALSO POSTING THAT YOU HAVE A MONTH TO LOSE YOUR 50 POUND GOAL IS NOT HEALTHY AND YOU WILL FAIL MISERABLY.  AND IF YOU DON’T FAIL, AND YOU SOMEHOW LOSE 50 POUNDS IN ONE GODDAMNED MONTH, YOU WILL GAIN IT ALL BACK BECAUSE YOU DID NOT LOSE IT HEALTHILY.
