Sherlock Holmes

Molly.

Molly Hooper

What’s up, Sherlock? You didn’t sign off your text. x Molly

Sherlock Holmes

I need you.

Molly Hooper

What?

Sherlock Holmes

Formaldehyde? No, Chlorine. No – wait – no – I am positive it was iron.

Molly Hooper

Sherlock. Are you drunk?

Sherlock Holmes

Are you

Molly Hooper

Missing punctuation. Definitely drunk. I’m calling Victor.

Sherlock Holmes

He’s passed out. Molly, did you know that you have very steady hands?

Molly Hooper

I’m in the profession for a reason, Sherlock. Stay where you are.

Sherlock’s head was pounding with the strength of a thousand drinks downed all together at once.

“Go away,” he said, turning away from the person in the car.

“You should be glad that Miss Hooper sent me a message, you know,” said the man.

“Why would Molly text you?” asked Sherlock, acidly. “That is the opposite of what I wanted.”

“I’m sure your friend sees the benefits of being friends with me more than you do,” said Mycroft.

Sherlock pinched the bridge of his nose, unsure of what to say.

“Dr. Danvers said that my independent study required a lot of work, particularly since it’s so ambitious. What do you think, Sherlock?”

“I really couldn’t care less what Dr. Danvers thinks,” said Sherlock, typing on his phone rapidly.

Molly dipped her straw into her drink, mixing it up. “Mm,” she said. “You need to call your brother, by the way. Mycroft said that Mothering Sunday is coming, and he needs you to approve of the gift.”

Sherlock put his phone down. “What?” he asked.

“Mothering Sunday,” Molly prompted. “Gift. For your mother?”

“Yes, I heard that,” said Sherlock waspishly. “That bit before – where you called him Mycroft.”

“That’s his name, Sherlock,” said Molly with some asperity.

“I know,” said Sherlock. “But we refer to him as ‘git’ and ‘England’ alternatively.”

Molly frowned. “You can go on doing that. There is no ‘we’ here. I like him.”

Sherlock raised his eyebrows. “You like Mycroft?” he asked.

Molly finished off her drink. She nodded as she threw the straw back.

“And when am I to wish you congratulations?” asked Sherlock nastily.

“God, you sound like Miss Bingley,” said Molly. Sherlock glared at her.

Molly smiled at him merrily. “Finish your sandwich, Sherlock. You didn’t eat for the last couple of days while you were on that Heart case.”

Sherlock’s appetite, mysteriously, was gone.

The image was so vivid, so clear, so warm and friendly, that Sherlock threw his phone away.

Mycroft read the messages during slow days, amusing himself with the very vivid and clear image of Sherlock’s livid anger.
