The Wolf Queen (Part 2)

Pairing: Jon Snow x Reader

A/N: You can read Part 1 of this story here! And you can read the rest of my writing here!!!

Warnings: Who cares, if you’re reading this you obviously watch the show which means your mature enough.

Prompt; Another Stark returns with news that can change everything. A Queen comes North to form an alliance. Y/N and Jon find themselves struggling between the right thing for their people and the wrong thing for their growing family.

Things are very different. Once, a dark and grim castle with no hope, is now filled with noise and warmth as life begins to take over. Tiny paws echo through the halls of Winterfell early in the morning for everyone to hear as pups growl and nip at each other’s tails. The sound of chatter comes from the dining hall as people talk over shared bread and honey. Wolves howl outside like they are singing songs to the moon. And upstairs, in the Lord’s Chamber, a King and a Queen of her own right laugh under piles of furs and silks.

“So you’re trying to tell me that if Tormund and Brienne were to fight each other, Tormund would win”?

“Yes, that is exactly what I think”.

“Jon Snow, you are an absolute idiot”, you laugh again.

“Either Lumpy and his friends are lying about being bothered by thin-skinned authoritarian less-than-christian readers-of-prompter being president, or they don’t care – as long as it’s THEIR thin-skinned-prompter-authoritarian-tyrant narcissist. You just want that person to give you your country back, because you feel that you are this country’s rightful owners. There’s only one problem with that: THIS COUNTRY ISN’T YOURS. You don’t own it. It never was! There is no ‘real America.’ You don’t own it! You don’t own patriotism, you don’t own Christianity, you sure as HELL don’t own respect for the bravery and sacrifice of military, police and firefighters. Trust me! I saw a lot of people on the convention floor in Cleveland with their Blue Lives Matter rhetoric who either remained silent or actively fought against the 9/11 First Responders Bill reauthorization. I see you, and I see your bullshit!

“You’ve got a problem with those Americans fighting for their place at the table. You’ve got a problem with them because you feel like those – ah, what’s representative Steve King’s word? – sub-groups, of Americans, are being divisive. Well if you have a problem with that, take it up with the founders. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, ♫♪ that all men are created equal ♫♪’ – sorry. Big up. Respect, Lin-Manuel. Those fighting to be included in the ideal of equality are not being divisive. Those fighting to keep those people out, ARE.”

Sighhhhhh. And the SDCC stuff has hit the fan, like I knew it would. If you ask me I kinda hate these panel events because they place so much pressure on the actors, and yeah it’s fun, but the actors are just that - actors. They don’t write or predict the story, they’re the vehicle for telling it. Ultimately, their opinion doesn’t matter. Also they’re not their characters - they don’t know (or they won’t tell) what’s going to happen in the future. They don’t know, or they don’t know how much they can say, so they end up answering questions with other inaccurate info, or personal opinion, or whatever.

Also Sophie loves stirring shit. She’s known for it. It’s pretty funny. She’s always been about empowering Sansa, so that’s gonna be her priority when answering questions about Sansa and Queen in the North vs Jon’s King in the North etc, not the show’s intentions for Sansa.

Also, the book could well have a totally different ending for Sansa and Jon than the show does by now since they’ve split.

Y’all, this remains and will always remain a Sophie Turner Appreciation Blog, because I literally could not give less of a fuck what characters she likes, what characters she ships, or any of it. She is a delight, I find her utterly charming and adorable, I love her. She is entitled to any and all personal opinions, whether they align with mine or not. It has zero impact on my shipping Jon/Sansa, or Sansa/Anyone, because I do not need or want authorial “permission” from anyone related to the show or books and my fannish life is separate from all of it. I do and will always ship whatever the hell I want to ship for no other reason than because it pleases me to, and I extend the courtesy of being allowed to do the same without needing to justify it to everyone else, no matter how I feel about their ships.

I refuse to entertain anyone’s concern troll bullshit about her being drunk, I’m not about to indulge any shrieking about her hating Jon or Kit, I completely reject any anger towards her just because she UNDERSTANDABLY isn’t down with Jon/Sansa (and seriously, if you DON’T understand why she wouldn’t be down with it when she considers them BROTHER AND SISTER, turn off your computer and take a fucking walk) or because she says positive things about Littlefinger or whatever else, and I’m certainly not going to stay quiet if I see people dragging her because she has a goddamned opinion, so be fucking warned. Fandom is part of OUR lives. It is NOT part of hers. Leave her the fuck out of it and let the girl live, for fuck’s sake.

I actually think Bran is the third head of the dragon. The Three Eyed Raven told him that he would fly. I kind of took that as him warging into one of the dragons.

Perhaps he’ll skinchange a dragon, that’s a very good possibility. However (and this will veer from Bran), I don’t necessarily understand why there has to be “three heads of a dragon.” Dragons don’t need riders to burn shit up, so why is everyone so sure that Jon and Tyrion are going to ride Rhaegal and Viserion? Are we actually saying that Jon, a very good swordsman and current owner of a rare Valyrian steel blade (and likely Azor Ahai), is not going to be doing combat against the wights and Others? That would be a significant waste of his talents, especially considering the minimum amount of weapons they have that can actually kill the Others.

And Tyrion, as much as we all want him to ride a dragon and be a hero, has a lot working against him and not much working for him besides a deep knowledge of dragons and, well, the fans wanting him to. As shown by Dany’s initial ride, riding a dragon is not easy.

The lash was still in her hand. She flicked it against Drogon’s neck and cried, “Higher!” Her other hand clutched at his scales, her fingers scrabbling for purchase. Drogon’s wide black wings beat the air. Dany could feel the heat of him between her thighs. (Daenerys, A Dance with Dragons)

Tyrion is very short. Peter Dinklage is 4′5″, and GRRM has confirmed that Tyrion is even shorter than him, so he’s lucky if he’s four feet and some inches. That’s a severe disadvantage to riding a dragon; of course he does have his specially designed horse saddle, but is one of Dany’s feral, untrained dragons really going to sit still to be strapped with that? I don’t know…

Do the dragons need anyone but Dany riding them, and some way to control them (Bran, spells, the horn)? Perhaps Tyrion can operate in the same way he did the Blackwater, but even that seems underwhelming for such a big character. The fact that he has nothing truly going for him being a dragon rider except for his love and knowledge of them makes me question if the “three heads” is even something that will need to come to fruition. GRRM has said this of prophecies:

“Prophecies are, you know, a double edged sword. You have to handle them very carefully; I mean, they can add depth and interest to a book, but you don’t want to be too literal or too easy…” (x)

From what we know of most of his prophecies, they aren’t necessarily straightforward and often go in directions we (or the characters) don’t expect. It’s too easy to say Dany, Jon, and Tyrion will ride her three dragons to save the world. There are important things to consider with that: why do the dragons need to be ridden, will GRRM sit Jon out of the physical fighting, will Tyrion’s height allow for him to ride and stay on a dragon? Just as no one expected a princess to be the prince that was promised, do we need three dragon heads when there is already one?
